Given a choice between tardiness and recklessness, former New England Patriots offensive lineman Rich Ohrnberger happily chose the latter in order to avoid the wrath of head coach Bill Belichick. As the retired NFL guard revealed on his radio show, 'The Hartman & Rich O Show', he intentionally bumped his Chevy Tahoe into a ramshackle church van to give himself a valid excuse for being late to a team meeting. Ohrnberger didn't reveal the date of the accident, but the former Penn State star played in Foxborough from 2009 and 2011, when Belichick's rules on punctuality were every bit as unflinchingly rigid as they are today. President Joe Biden insisted the U.S. economy is on track after the Commerce Department said Thursday that the gross domestic product shrank for a second quarter in a row, which is typically the definition of a recession.  'That doesn't sound like a recession to me,' Biden said Thursday afternoon in the State Dining Room, pointing to a 'record job market' and 'record unemployment.' Biden noted that 'both Chairman Powell and many of the significant banking personnel and economists say we're not in a recession.'  He dedicated most of his speech to the Senate reconciliation bill compromise that was announced Wednesday by moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.  'My message to Congress is this: This is the bill you can pass to lower inflation, cut the deficit, reduce healthcare costs, tackle the climate change and promote energy security - all the time while reducing the burdens facing working class and middle class families,' Biden said.  'So pass it, pass it for the American people, pass it for America,' he added.  President Joe Biden insisted the U.S. economy...

Any recovered assets will first be used to make any victims of this crime whole." DA Katz told the court how Syer began working for the comedian in 2015 and given his personal credit card numbers "with the understanding that he would only make authorized purchases." But the DA alleged Syer made "unauthorized charges on those credit cards over the course of 19 months" totalling about $1.2million. "The...
He knew everyone worth knowing and had a witticism for them all. Of Princess Margaret, he once remarked, ‘She’s a very high-strung girl who wants to be royalty on one hand and on the other a hippy.’ Mick Jagger he described as moving ‘like a parody between a majorette girl and Fred Astaire’.  Even Elizabeth Taylor, whom he got to know well and had profiled for a magazine, describing her eyes as ‘so liquid with life’, was defined as having ‘an extraordinary inferiority complex, and it’s difficult to get through’. But then Truman Capote was not for nothing hailed as one of the sharpest writers of the 20th Century.  His 1958 novella, Breakfast At Tiffany’s, was adapted into the Oscar-winning movie starring Audrey Hepburn (though he hated her in the role), while his 1966 true-crime novel, In Cold Blood, is to this day regarded as one of the greatest examples of the genre. Truman Capote is pictured above with Marilyn Monroe. Though Truman had lobbied for his friend Marilyn Monroe to play Holly in Breakfast At Tiffany's, Paramount had, he said,...
Fired Fox News political editor Chris Stirewalt has accused the network of 'indulging their consumers' worst cravings', as he blasted what he described as the 'hype men in the media who tried to steal an election or at least get rich trying'.  Stirewalt, who was part of the Fox's election team that called Arizona for Joe Biden before his sensational firing last week, penned a scathing opinion piece for the LA Times where he appeared to pin some of the blame on Fox for the 'rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election'. Though he did not reference Fox by name, he made a series of thinly-veiled attacks on the network with its focus on 'ratings' meaning it avoids 'at almost any cost impinging on the reality' of its viewers.  The ousted editor, who worked at the Rupert Murdoch-owned network for more than a decade, also claimed he was targeted with 'murderous rage' from viewers after the network was first to correctly call Arizona for Biden in the presidential election.  Stirewalt, 46, was ousted last week along with at...
Barack Obama tore into Donald Trump during an interview published Monday where he said the president is a 'Richie Rich' type and far from the traditional ideal of American masculinity – like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, he noted. 'I think about the classic male hero in American culture when you and I were growing up: the John Waynes, the Gary Coopers, the Jimmy Stewarts, the Clint Eastwoods, for that matter. There was a code,' Obama told The Atlantic, 'the code of masculinity that I grew up with that harkens back to the '30s and '40s and before that.' The former president said he thought if a 'right-wing populist' would rise to the presidency, he thought it would be someone 'more appealing' than Trump. 'I'm not surprised that somebody like Trump could get traction in our political life. He's a symptom as much as an accelerant,' Obama said, adding: 'But if we were going to have a right-wing populist in this country, I would have expected somebody a little more appealing.' 'There's a notion that a man is true to...

The Twins knew they would need extra pitching depth this season, though perhaps they didn’t know they’d need to tap into this many of their depth options this soon. It started even before the season started, when the Twins put Jake Odorizzi on the injured list with upper back soreness. Then they pushed Rich Hill back from the second game of the season to the fifth to give him a couple extra days of rest. This weekend, Homer Bailey was pushed back and then put on the injured list with a case of biceps tendinitis. And Monday, when the Twins announced their upcoming pitchers for this week, Hill notably wasn’t listed. After dazzling in his first start of the season, throwing five scoreless innings, manager Rocco Baldelli said Hill felt “a little fatigued,” and was “probably a little behind getting ready to make his next start,” after feeling a bit of mild upper back soreness. Hill is not scheduled to pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who the Twins have three more games against this week. No date has been set...
