A missing Texas middle school teacher was caught on surveillance footage parking her Lexus SUV in New Orleans and walking away just one day after she disappeared. Those looking are concerned that Reynolds may have wandered into the water in a delirious state.  A nonprofit search and rescue organization is scouring the Mississippi River looking for any signs of 48-year-old Michelle Reynolds, whose husband first reported her missing on Thursday. Michael Reynolds had said his wife told him she was going out to get food that day, but never returned to their Alvin, Texas home. Her SUV was later found hundreds of miles away in the Big Easy on Saturday, with her cellphone, driver's license and credit cards still inside. Officials now fear the mother of three may have been confused and waded into the river after driving to New Orleans and abandoning her car.  Michelle Reynolds, 48, was reported missing on Thursday after she told her husband she was going out to get food. Getty Tyrese Maxey #0 of the Philadelphia 76ers drives to the hoop against Precious Achiuwa #5 of the Toronto Raptors. With the Philadelphia 76ers training camp underway, the team is beginning to get familiar with each other. It was an exciting offseason as the team made some notable win-now additions by adding quality rotation players. One of the most intriguing additions is De’Anthony Melton, whom the Sixers added in a draft night trade. In exchange for Danny Green and the 23rd overall pick, the Sixers added the springy guard who will be expected to have an increased role in Philadelphia. Melton was quick to spread praise to his teammates and shared how much of an impression Tyrese Maxey has made on him already. According to Ky Carlin of SixersWire, Melton stated after practice: “He’s a quick, decisive guard. He’s able to get downhill, but he can pull up on you at any time and he’s very good at getting to the paint and finishing and stuff like that. It’s his offensive game, it’s evolving as he gets older.” Melton...

watch nowVIDEO4:5504:55Nearly half of New York City workers are back in the office: SurveySquawk Box Jamie Dimon may have been off by a year, but New York City's offices are finally starting to fill up. In May 2021, the JPMorgan chief executive predicted that the percentage of workers in offices in the city would be back to normal by the following fall. "Yes, the commute, you know, yes, people don't like commuting, but so what?" Dimon said in his not-so-empathic way at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit. As a Covid wave prognosticator and expert on worker psychology, the bank CEO failed. But his view of bringing workers back is getting closer to reality. Nearly half of office workers (49%) are back in New York City on an average weekday, up from 38% in April, according to the latest data this week from the Partnership for New York City, which has been tracking office occupancy as a vital sign for New York's economy. As its 100th birthday approaches, the iconic Hollywood sign is getting a bit of a makeover. Cue the inevitable jokes about celebrity face-lifts and nips and tucks because the aging letters are getting a fresh paint job. Although it might take a couple gallons to cover your bedroom walls, the nonprofit Hollywood Sign Trust will use 400 gallons of High Reflective White SW 7757 from Sherwin Williams to make the city’s biggest star shine brighter. Each letter stands 45 feet tall, and the paint jobs will take 10 people about eight weeks, according to the Hollywood Sign Trust and Sherwin Williams. Preparation begins Monday, and painting and priming will start Oct. 3. The sign was last painted in 2012. “We do it about every 10 years. That’s about the life cycle of the paint. It’ll be completely redone,” said Jeff Zarrinnam, the chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust, which maintains and repairs the sign. “The Hollywood sign is getting its new makeover just in time for its 100th anniversary. For Megan Wong of San Jose, there never was much question in her mind whether she’d get the new omicron-specific COVID-19 vaccine booster when it became available. The human resources worker has trips planned across the country to New Orleans, Nashville and Tampa, and feels like earlier shots have protected her. The first updated COVID vaccine formula since the shots first rolled out in late 2020 is designed to protect against the highly contagious omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5 as well as the original strain. And Wong was among the first in line when Santa Clara County health officials started giving out boosters Wednesday. “It felt like a really obvious choice to me,” Wong, 36, said after getting the shot at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds vaccine clinic Wednesday. “COVID isn’t gone, and I think it’s just better to take any precautions that you can.” Health officials wish more people felt the same way, but fear the boosters will be a tough sell this fall. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that COVID transmission rates remain high in...

Ten Hag has also changed up his tactics in the middle of the pitch, where he now plays two holding midfielders as opposed to just one. Speaking exclusively to SunSport on behalf of bet365, Stam...
Real Girlfriends In Paris       Yes, as the American songwriter Cole Porter penned: I love Paris in the springtimeI love Paris in the fall/I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles/I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles… I lived there for seven years. I still love it. And, it seems, more and more Americans can't get enough of the City of Lights, as the phenomenal success of Netflix's APPALLING Emily in Paris shows. Emily in Paris stars Lily Collins as a twenty-something marketing executive (the only real joke in the alleged comedy), who leaves Chicago to take up her dream job in Paris. When she can be bothered to work between taking selfies and dressing up, she's the toast of her industry because she thinks of doing things her colleagues obviously haven't thought about doing after decades in the job. She's also the target of every French man's affection. In my seven years, I was lucky if a miniature poodle came sniffing around me, let alone a member of the male species. The...

Meet Simon! His foster mom welcomed him into her home, and after only 24 hours, she fell completely in love with him and decided to adopt him. Simon originally came from Heart and Bones Rescue in New York. Although his previous owners gave him up, he could not have found a better home! Source: GeoBeats Animals/Youtube “I was really hoping when I adopted him to have a companion who would come with me wherever, and he’s just really happy to go along with things,” said his foster mom. “We never really know what dogs are thinking, but I definitely think he thinks I’m his mother.” Fostering is essential because it helps reduce shelters’ overcrowding and opens space for other animals to be saved. It also helps prepare animals for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where they can fully express their personality, work to overcome fears, or recover from trauma. You can keep up with Simon on Instagram! We encourage everyone thinking of getting a pet to only adopt instead of shopping. Read more...
A top Russian influencer has been mocked for getting a new Chanel bag after taking part in a high-profile socialite stunt to scissor her last one in protest at Western sanctions over Vladimir Putin's war. In April, Monaco-based model Victoria Bonya, 42, with 9 million followers, led the anti-Chanel campaign by wealthy female Kremlin backers. At the time she said in English: 'I have to say if Chanel House does not respect its clients, [why] do we have to respect Chanel? Bye bye.' She was seen throwing the bag away at her plush home. The Putin-loving businesswoman who chooses to live in the West had 'never seen any brand acting so disrespectful towards their clients.' (CNN)New York's messiest Democratic House primary could be on the verge of becoming its most divisive general election fight.State Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou, a progressive from Lower Manhattan, currently trails former federal prosecutor Daniel Goldman by about 1,300 votes, with more mail ballots to count. Homegrown players in the major leagues is the ideal outcome when an organization invests in draft picks and amateur signings. It’s the best way to consistently replenish talent, and developing players — especially pitchers — frees up resources to allocate elsewhere on a roster. The emergence of left-hander Justin Steele and right-hander Keegan Thompson as bona fide big-league starters could allow the Chicago Cubs to invest more heavily this offseason in an offensive game-changer. Just as importantly, starting pitching depth is becoming a strength within the Cubs system, bolstered by prospects acquired in trade-deadline moves. In MLB.com’s updated prospect rankings released Wednesday, seven pitchers rank among the Cubs’ top 15 prospects: 2022 first-round pick Cade Horton (No. 4), Jordan Wicks (No. 5), Ben Brown (No. 7), second-round pick Jackson Ferris (No. 8), Hayden Wesneski (No. 12), DJ Herz (No. 13) and Caleb Kilian (No. 14). Five of them are pitching at either Double-A Tennessee or Triple-A Iowa. The caliber of arms reaching the upper levels of the minors is an encouraging development for the Cubs and the possibility of turning...
(CNN)Before July Fourth, Cooper Roberts was almost always active and running around. He loved playing sports -- including soccer, baseball and football -- and riding his bike, his family has said.Life has looked very different since the 8-year-old was shot in the Highland Park Fourth of July attack, and left paralyzed. Seven people were killed and dozens injured by the gunman who fired from a roof into the crowd. "There are layers upon layers of cruelty with being shot by a sniper. Most people don't witness the grueling aftermath of surviving these devastating wounds," Cooper's family said in a Tuesday update on his condition. In the last year, veteran South Bay chef-restaurateur Jim Stump has expanded his businesses from three to five, launching a Los Gatos restaurant, Shepherd & Sims, and a Willow Glen tavern, Lamella. Now there’s a new restaurant in the wings: Stump’s Taproom & Kitchen, a concept planned for Mineta San Jose International Airport. It’s tentatively scheduled to open this October. The taproom-kitchen will be located in Terminal B, across from Gates 23 and 23, and construction is well under way. This venture actually was in the works pre-pandemic, when the family business had three locations (The Table in San Jose and Forthright Oyster Bar & Kitchen and Vespers in Campbell), according to co-owner and wife Angelique Shepherd. “We were looking for a fourth location — a project for our kids to be a part of and make it a more family-owned business,” she said. “We are making a place we can eat when we travel. I am a very picky eater for breakfast, as I don’t eat eggs, and so Jim is great at menu development.” She said the plan...
But not all of the migrants boarding the buses in Texas are arriving up north. Tennessee local news station WTVC-TV reported Friday that Chattanooga is apparently a stopping point for charter buses carrying migrants from Texas to the East Coast. Some of the migrants were reportedly disembarking at a gas station in Rising Fawn, Georgia, intending to trek about 30 miles on foot to Chattanooga. A McDonald's employee in Chattanooga said some migrant children had gotten off the bus and were panhandling, asking for money so they could travel to Florida. Officials have warned the migrants to remain on their bus until they reach their final destination. Blackburn said that most of the migrants getting off the bus are young men and blamed President Joe Biden's policies for contributing to rampant illegal immigration and encouraging drug and human traffickers to take advantage of people traveling to the United States. "Crime has escalated," Blackburn said. "You look at the crime rates in New York and these sanctuary city mayors who are now complaining, they should be talking to Joe...
Turning to Botox and other cosmetic treatments is a personal decision for women prompted by a variety of reasons. However, those who do it to help them find romance with a new partner can be judged more harshly by other women. A study suggests that motivations, such as boosting their career or self-esteem, are regarded more sympathetically. Researchers studied the reactions of 306 participants to different scenarios in which middle-aged women had anti-ageing treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers. For example, the group of men and women was told: ‘Beth is a middle-aged woman who wants to maintain a more youthful appearance to look for a romantic partner. ‘She regularly uses professional treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers as part of her anti-ageing treatment.’ A Swansea University study found that women who got Botox for romantic reasons were judged more harshly than those who got it done to boost their career or self-esteem. Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy spoke with the media for the first time in nearly three months Thursday on the second day of training camp practices at Halas Hall. It was a good opportunity to hear Getsy’s take on the progress quarterback Justin Fields has made running his new offense. On that, Getsy was both positive and realistic. “He’s come so far from where we started, for sure,” Getsy said. “We still have a long way to go though. “As far as like attacking the system and the knowledge of the system and what’s going on around him, he’s done a great job of that. Just getting the experience and those reps. The cool part about it is in a couple more days (on Monday) we get to put pads on, and this thing gets to be real. Mariposa County, California (CNN)On a ridge overlooking the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it would have been possible to see the first flickering flames of the Oak Fire and then how it engulfed its surroundings. It took just 24 hours to mushroom to 10,000 acres and become California's biggest wildfire this year. "That's crazy fast," said Joe Amador, one of thousands of firefighters from across the state now deployed to fight the blaze. "In the initial stages it was wind-driven and terrain-driven," he told CNN, pointing to rolling hills, peaks and valleys that fire crews call "chimneys" that can help to spread embers and fire rapidly. Winds were light on Thursday, allowing an inversion layer to form, which kept flames shorter and held down the thick smoke blanketing the hills outside Mariposa, close to Yosemite National Park -- a blessing for the teams trying to contain the fire and protect buildings. Getty Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry celebrates a three-point make during Game 6 of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. Stephen Curry’s NBA Finals run against the Boston Celtics was something to behold; a moment in time that will hold undoubtedly hold down a prominent spot in the annals of his incredible career. Over six games, the Golden State Warriors star and eventual Finals MVP averaged 31 points, six boards and five dimes while draining 43.7% of his triples. The high-water mark came during Game 4 when Curry dropped 43 points on 14-of-26 shooting to lead the Dubs to a series-tying, come-from-behind victory in Beantown. As good as he was when it mattered most, though, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that Steph’s regular season fell short of his usual standard. His overall conversion rate (43.7%) and three-point efficacy (38%) were essentially new career lows, and he also missed the last several weeks of the season with an injury. So, there are some things worth monitoring as the baller heads into year 14. On the...

The Entomological Society of America and the Entomological Society of Canada have adopted a new name for the murder hornet, also known as the Asian giant hornet, saying "the usage of 'Asian' in the name of a pest insect can unintentionally bolster anti-Asian sentiment" especially "amid a rise in hate crimes and discrimination against people of Asian descent." The ESA adopted the name "northern giant hornet" for the species in its Common Names of Insects database. Since all wasps are native to Asia, the name Asian giant hornet does not convey unique information about the biology or behavior of the species, according to the ESA.Chris Looney, entomologist at the Washington State Department of Agriculture, authored the name change proposal, saying that the previous common name of the species, scientifically called Vespa mandarinia, "is at best a neutral and uninformative adjective, potentially a distraction from more salient characters of the organism, and at worst a racist trope."Read MoreMonarch butterflies could become extinct if we dont take these 3 steps,...
Photo by Amanda Edwards/Getty Images Erin Overbey, the Archive Editor and Classics newsletter editor for The New Yorker who has been posting Twitter threads highly critical of her employer on issues of diversity and inclusion, has now been terminated, according to a new Twitter thread she posted Monday morning. In one such past thread from September 2021, Overbey dissected the racial diversity of The New Yorker’s editorial staff and published writers. “Most white people at prestigious magazines don’t ever want to talk about race or diversity at all,” she wrote, “primarily because they’ve been allowed to exist in a world where their mastheads resemble member registries at Southern country clubs circa 1950.” She argued that white people were “rarely actively racist at these publications” but “simply never bother to challenge the status quo—typically out of concern that they will be inconvenienced or made to feel uncomfortable,” meaning that the status quo  “often remains entrenched for literally decades.” These “otherwise friendly, decent white people are really the bedrock upon which passive racism maintains its grip on media mastheads & editorial departments,” so when...

The rapidly evolving coronavirus is zigzagging and evading vaccines intended to neutralize it, but researchers appear to have discovered a way to trap it effectively — if only briefly — with booster shots. COVID-19 vaccine booster shots work well to prevent infections from omicron and its sub-variants such as BA.5, but immune responses wane within three months, according to researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “We looked at whether or not these boosters help neutralize the current circulating strains, which are all omicron variants,” Dr. Meagan Deming, an instructor of medicine at UMSOM, told WTOP. The bottom line, according to Deming: “Getting a booster is essential to protecting from new variants.” Vaccines stimulate different immune responses simultaneously. Some prevent infection, some lead to less severe outcomes. This research pertains to prevention of infections from vaccines stimulating production of what’s called neutralizing antibody titers. The findings are part of a larger mix-and-match study conducted at National Institutes of Health-affiliated sites nationwide to explore whether receiving boosters different from the original vaccine affected their effectiveness. VINNYTSIA, Ukraine—Smoke and flames rose from the wreckage of burning buildings as the screams of the wounded and dying filled the air. Here was more evidence of President Vladimir Putin’s growing desperation. Another 24 people—three of them children—paid the ultimate price for the Kremlin’s tragic new strategy. The Russian Army was too weak, ill-disciplined and under-cooked to make the sweeping gains the Kremlin expected when they launched this illegal war on Ukraine. With the army bogged down and making incremental gains in the eastern Donbas regions, but offering little threat to the rest of Ukraine, Putin has resorted to launching missile strikes against civilian centers all over the country. The most recent major attack came on Thursday, when a Russian submarine launched Kalibr precision missiles into a concert hall and a medical center in Victory Square in the previously peaceful city of Vinnytsia in central Ukraine. Katya, an employee of the next-door Nova Poshta post office, told The Daily Beast what it was like to become a pawn in Putin’s geopolitical tantrum. “It was the middle of the day and...

Getty Kevin Durant #7 of the Brooklyn Nets A new development has emerged for the Brooklyn Nets as they seek to find a trade for superstar Kevin Durant this summer. Back in June, the star forward asked to be traded from the Nets, shortly after Kyrie Irving opted into his deal for the next year. With four years left on his deal, Brooklyn will be looking to get a big haul in return, but there aren’t many teams who can offer that while still competing for a championship. Coming up on a month since the request went public, there are now rumors swirling that Durant’s request has nothing to do with trading him, but instead it’s about getting Irving off the team. This comes from ESPN insider Dave McMenamin speaking on Zach Lowe’s podcast “The Lowe Post,” and he says the thought process is gaining steam.Durant Wants Irving Out?Irving and Durant came to Brooklyn together, but it’s clear the pair’s tenure together hasn’t resulted in much overall success. Pairing the two created championship aspirations for the Nets, and...

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — California’s strict gun laws just got tougher. Gun makers and dealers in the state will be required to block firearms sales to anyone at risk of breaking the law. It’s part of a slew of new gun control laws signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. This week, Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1594 which creates a standard of conduct within the firearms industry. It is also known as the Firearm Responsibility Act which was signed to “protect public health and safety” in California by “promoting safe and responsible firearm industry member practices.” The standard would also hold firearm industry members accountable if they are found responsible for breaking the law, or “wrongful conduct” that endangers the public. READ MORE: Auburn Police Aim To Respond To 911 Calls Quicker With New TechnologyThe list of new laws comes less than a month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against restrictions on carrying firearms in public, which was a step in the right direction for gun rights advocates like the executive director of Gun Owners of California, Sam Paredes. “The laws that...
Former President Donald Trump continues to lead all challengers in a poll of Republican voters – but with nearly half of GOP voters saying they prefer someone else. And the poll reveals a sizable chunk – 16 per cent – of Republicans who say they would vote for President Joe Biden if Trump is the party nominee. The New York Times / Sienna College poll comes as Trump continues to try to assert his dominance within the party, picking favorites in key primaries and trying to defeat Republicans who voted to impeach him.  Nearly half of Republican voters want someone else besides former President Donald Trump as the party's nominee, according to a new poll Trump gets the support of 49 per cent of Republican voters who are asked to name their preferred candidate in the poll. That doubles up support over his top rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who party insiders view as the most potent threat to him. There is a substantial dropoff after that, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz getting 7 per cent support, former Vice President...

A new report lists several groups of people who experts believe may be more at risk of developing long COVID. Long COVID refers to a wide range of long-term health problems people can experience following their COVID-19 infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.) "There is no test to diagnose post-COVID conditions, and people may have a wide variety of symptoms that could come from other health problems," the CDC said. "This can make it difficult for healthcare providers to recognize post-COVID conditions." The CDC said researchers are working to discover which groups of people are more likely to have long COVID. The agency said those who have experienced more severe COVID-19 illness, those who had underlying health conditions before their COVID-19 infection, those who aren't vaccinated, and those who experience multisystem inflammatory syndrome during or after COVID-19 illness may be more at risk for developing long COVID. According to a report from Fortune published on Sunday, July 3, researchers have reported that the following groups may be more at risk for long COVID: People...
