THE Royal Navy has sent a warship to help guard gas supplies after a suspected Russian attack on a pipelines. The move comes after a series of explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines which are feared to have been ordered by Vladimir Putin. 3A Royal Navy warship, believed to be HMS Somerset, is heading to the North SeaCredit: AFP or licensors Twin 800-mile pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 can ferry 110billion cubic metres of gas annually from Russia through the Baltic into Western Europe. Prices had already spiked by up to 12 per cent following the apparent sabotage, deepening fears the continent is facing a cold and bleak winter. A Royal Navy frigate, reportedly HMS Somerset, has now been sent to work alongside the Norwegian navy to guard gas pipes running under the North Sea the Ministry of Defence said. It comes after Defence Secretary Ben Wallace joined a crisis meeting of northern European nations on Monday to discuss co-ordinating security responses, including increased maritime presence. "The group condemned the blatant attacks against civilian infrastructure," the MoD said on...
Getty Images Lakers coach Darvin Ham. Dennis Schroder has missed the start of camp for the Los Angeles Lakers but is expected to join the team soon to get his second stint in purple and gold underway. Schroder has been dealing with visa issues, which has kept him in Germany for the opening days of training camp. He’ll also miss the team’s first preseason game on Monday against the Sacramento Kings. The news on Schroder’s timeline came from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on October 1: Dennis Schroder, who has missed all of camp thus far after signing as a free agent last month, is expected to join the team as soon as midweek in Las Vegas after sorting out a visa issue that was keeping him in his native Germany. Lakers coach Darvin Ham acknowledged that Schroder may need some time to get back into the flow of things but he has time. The Lakers open the season on October 18. “He has his coaches over there that we communicate with,” Ham said. “He’s doing the best he can...
Getty Malcolm Brogdon and Marcus Smart, now both of the Boston Celtics. For the first time in months, Boston Celtics basketball is back. They took on the Charlotte Hornets in their first preseason game on Sunday afternoon, taking home a 134-93 win in the process. Boston’s squad put on an extremely impressive performance, as almost every player showed something to get fans excited. Jaylen Brown scored a game-high 24 points, Sam Hauser was lighting the Hornets up from three-point range, and big man Mfiondu Kabengele played with a hustle that got the crowd amped up. Malcolm Brogdon, however, managed to stand out without the flash and flair. He dropped a solid scoreline of 11 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. His nine dimes led the game and proved that he’s fully capable of taking on point guard duties when necessary. That being said, Brogdon admitted after the game that there could be some challenges with how much talent the Celtics have on the roster. “There are definitely challenges,” Brogdon said. “Of course there are challenges because there are...

A top House Republican from Florida is condemning the COVID-19 vaccine mandates imposed on the country's armed forces by the Biden administration - just before the policy takes one hero Coast Guardsman out of service. Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Zach Loesch was publicly thanked by President Joe Biden for his Hurricane Ian heroics in the Sunshine State but is going to soon be out of the thousands of service members suddenly off duty because they do not have both COVID-19 shots. GOP Rep. Mike Waltz (Fla.-06) told DailyMail.com on Sunday that Loesch's case 'underscores how destructive' the Biden administration's vaccine policy has been on the US military. He warned that the mandate could undercut the country's ability to respond to future crises like Hurricane Ian and further exacerbate the military's concerning personnel shortage.  'This will cripple our ability to effectively respond to the next natural disaster if the Biden Administration doesn’t reverse course. We need more service members like Zach Loesch who put their life on the line to save others - not less,' Waltz said. 'And with the military’s current...
Twenty immigrants are missing and feared dead after attempting to sail from the direction of Cuba to the Florida Keys Wednesday as Hurricane Ian made landfall on South Florida and decimated parts of the region. The Coast Guard resumed its search Thursday for 20 people who were aboard a vessel that capsized as it embarked for the United States Wednesday. Nearly 24 hours after the Coast Guard's search commenced, authorities have reported just seven survivors. The Coast Guard pulled three survivors from the water 2 miles offshore from Boca Chica Beach in the Florida Keys Wednesday afternoon. Another four survivors were found after swimming to shore several hours later, according to the Border Patrol's Miami chief, Walter N. Slosar. A Ukrainian refugee who began a relationship with a security guard when he dumped his long-term partner days after she moved into their home has branded him a 'liar' who treated her like a dogsbody Sofiia Karkadym, 22, was welcomed into a home in Bradford owned by Tony Garnett, 30, and his then girlfriend Lorna, 28, under the Homes for Ukraine scheme following Russia's invasion earlier this year. But Tony dumped his partner just ten days after Sofiia had moved in so he could instead pursue a relationship with her. However, Tony has now also ended their relationship amid a furious bust-up in which he accuses her of not being able to handle alcohol and using a knife to damage a wall at their rented home. Remaining defiant, though, Sofiia says she is 'glad he is no longer a part of my life'. She told The Sun: 'I really loved him and thought we’d spend the rest of our lives together and have children but he changed. I think the pressure got to him. 'Even his own mum stopped speaking to him...

Getty Images Kendrick Nunn of the Los Angeles Lakers. After a lost first year with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kendrick Nunn is back and assures he’s ready to roll. Nunn has been fully cleared to particiapte in camp, which is music to the Lakers’ ears after he missed all 82 games with a bone bruise in his right knee. “Definitely tested my patience,” Nunn said of the injury during media day. “I feel healthy now. I feel full-go. I would say I’m ready. I feel as good as I felt last year around this time.” Last time Nunn was on the court was in May of 2021 while with the Heat. It might take some time to find his game after the layoff but being healthy is a simply, yet important step in the right direction. “Getting the rhythm back and feeling good on the floor with no injuries, feeling pain-free and able to play is everything for me,” Nunn said after the Lakers’ first practice. “So today was a good day for me.”Nunn Could Compete for Starting...
Getty Jalen Brunson leaves big shoes to fill in Dallas. At the start of free agency, point guard Jalen Brunson decided to spurn the Dallas Mavericks and join the New York Knicks to become their lead guard. Brunson is a big pick up for the Knicks because he replaces Alec Burks who was playing out of position there last season. He brings playmaking and scoring to the position, something that any team wants out of their point guard, so it’s a major upgrade on that end. While Knicks fans are happy to have him, Mavericks fans aren’t happy to see him go. Dallas head coach Jason Kidd is also somebody who would love to have him back in town. Kidd wished Brunson well with the Knicks, but went into detail about the void he leaves behind with the Mavs.“We Can’t Replace Him” Jason Kidd on losing Jalen Brunson to the NY Knicks via free agency: "We wish him luck in New York. But we can’t replace him. We’re going to have to do it by committee because he...
Getty RJ Barrett has a message. The start of another New York Knicks season is just over the horizon, and many players are addressing the media for the first time since the end of the season. There was a lot of excitement this past summer for the Knicks, and while they weren’t able to acquire Donovan Mitchell in a trade, they did manage to sign Jalen Bruson to man the point guard position. While they didn’t get the star guard, they were able to hang onto names like Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley, and they were also able to keep their first round picks for the future. These can be used to continue building through the draft, or they could decide to bundle them all for another trade. Whatever the case may be, the Knicks do appear solid for the foreseeable future. So much so, in fact, that RJ Barrett sent a message to fans and opposing teams alike in his media day comments.RJ Barrett Sounds Off RJ Barrett says Knicks are going to...
Getty Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson. With Bojan Bogdanovic getting traded to the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Lakers can rule out the Utah Jazz as a trade destination for Russell Westbrook. It would be much more difficult to make the salaries work and Utah doesn’t have much to offer that would be appealing to the Lakers. The only appealing player they have left is Jordan Clarkson. The 2021 Sixth Man of the Year winner is likely on his way out at some point. Clarkson originally came into the NBA as a Laker. He spent four seasons with the team before getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s been one of the best sixth-men in the league in recent years and could be an interesting player to target if the Lakers are interested. Something interesting to keep an eye on is Clarkson’s brother’s Instagram. Bear Clarkson was recently at a sporting goods store when he decided to take a video of his brother’s jersey on the wall. Notably, he called attention to the fact that the jersey was...

Lonzo Ball will have left knee surgery next week and miss the start of the season as the Chicago Bulls continue to seek answers for the starting point guard’s lingering injury. The Bulls announced Wednesday that Ball on Sept. 28 will undergo an arthroscopic debridement — a procedure that removes cartilage, tissue and other debris — of his left knee. The procedure will take place in Los Angeles, where Ball has spent the offseason attempting to rehab the injury initially suffered in January. Ball will be reevaluated four to six weeks after the procedure, sidelining him through at least the first five games of the regular season. The point guard’s absence is likely to stretch longer. By the time he is reevaluated, Ball will have gone more than 10 months without being able to run at full speed or scrimmage with contact, and that volume of missed games will require a lengthy onboarding back into the weekly workload of the regular season. In the meantime, Ball’s absence leaves a gaping hole in the Bulls lineup, which will rely on second-year...

A group of migrants arrived at the Cape Cod military base on Thursday after being shipped from Martha's Vineyard  where the wealthy liberal city had declared an emergency over the immigrants.   One of the 50 Venezuelans whisked from Martha’s Vineyard to the Joint Base Cape Cod has been filmed expressing delight at eating his local food ‘for the first time in three months’. The unidentified young man, dressed in a gray top and green jacket looked overjoyed, just hours after arriving at the key military establishment. He spoke after a local Venezuelan restaurant delivered traditional fare of arepas, black beans, rice and plantain to the migrants. In the video obtained by DailyMail.com, he said: ‘We have had three months without Venezuelan food. This is like a blessing. Thank you.’ Other young men around him broke out into a chorus of ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’. The moment of respite comes after a tumultuous week for the migrants, who were shipped to Massachusetts from Florida as part of Gov. Illegal immigrants who were flown in unannounced to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday are now being moved to a military base in Cape Cod. The 50 migrants have been put on buses by Gov. Charlie Baker to travel the 32 miles to Joint Base in Cape Cod (JBCC) just 48 hours after they landed in the billionaire’s enclave. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew in the immigrants from Venezuela on Wednesday, sparking a widespread cry of outrage from the liberal leaders of the small island in Massachusetts. It was declared a humanitarian emergency, with the island leaders responding in the same way as a hurricane. Lisa Belcastro, a homelessness director in the area said on Thursday that the island cannot support the migrants - where the median home price is nearly $1m- because it is facing a shortage of affordable housing. The median house in Martha's Vineyard is worth almost $800,000, according to the census, and the median household income is $77,370 - well above the national average of $67,521. She told reporters that at ‘some point they have to move somewhere...

Getty Logan Stenberg on the field against the Rams in 2021. The NFL can be a tough place and full of all sorts of gruesome injuries. Detroit Lions guard Logan Stenberg suffered through one in 2021 that was no exception. Stenberg was lost late last season and did not return. With multiple other major injuries playing out across the roster, the toils of a backup offensive lineman could have been easily swept under the rug, and that may have been what ended up happening. As Detroit News reporter Justin Rogers pointed out, it may not have been initially reported at the time what happened to Stenberg. While the player was meeting with the media on Wednesday, September 7, he managed to take care of that housekeeping. The injury? According to Stenberg, a torn MCL that needed reattachment to the bone. Not sure anyone ever reported why Logan Stenberg went on IR last season. At the time the search was called off, rescuers recovered just one body. Officials have said that it was impossible that anybody would survive the crash.  The Coast Guard has also confirmed that well-known local civil rights activist Sandy Williams is among the dead. She was 60 years old.  Nine of the bodies, including the body of a young child, were not recovered.  During her life, Williams established a community center and newspaper, The Black Lens, in the city of Spokane.  Her brother, Rick, confirmed her sad passing in an interview with the Spokesman Review.  Rick said has sister was returning from a vacation on the San Juan Islands off of the coast of Washington with other family members when the crash occurred. Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after tearing his meniscus, a league source told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. The Magic announced Harris had surgery after the Sentinel’s reporting. The procedure took place Wednesday. His return to play will depend on how he responds to rehabilitation and treatment, according to the Magic. An arthroscopic meniscectomy is “a minimally invasive surgical procedure” that’s used to treat a torn meniscus cartilage in which only the torn segment is removed, according to the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. Daniel Kharrazi, an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, told the Sentinel a meniscectomy is a “very common procedure,” adding it generally can take up to two months for an athlete to return. “Think of the meniscus as a cushion between the bones and joints that gives you padding,” Kharrazi said. “When that tears, it creates inflammation and pain inside the knee. In professional players, if it creates symptoms, we recommend arthroscopically fixing it so it can go back to...

Getty Furkan Korkmaz #30 of the Philadelphia 76ers. When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Furkan Korkmaz back in 2016, the hope was he would develop into a reliable deep-ball threat. Instead, Korkmaz has been something of a basketball Houdini, and not because he pulls remarkable wins out of a hat. His disappearing acts are something truly special; Korkmaz has a strange ability to light up the box score one night, then find himself completely missing from the stat sheet the next. Korkmaz’s shot may never be truly consistent Stateside, but at least he has no problem scorching the hoop overseas. While Korkmaz might have started in Turkey’s EuroBasket opener on Thursday against Montenegro, it was his end-of-game performance that had fans buzzing. Getty Guard Kelechi Osemele hasn't played since Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season. The Chicago Bears have set their 53-man roster and 16-player practice squad, but that doesn’t mean general manager Ryan Poles and company are going to stop looking for ways to make the team better. According to the NFL’s September 1 waiver wire, the Bears brought veteran guard Kelechi Osemele in for a workout. A second-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2012, Osemele was a starter for the Ravens team that won Super Bowl 47 in 2013. After four years in Baltimore, the 33-year-old Osemele signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Raiders, where he was named a first-team All-Pro in 2016 while getting named to back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2016 and 2017. He was traded to the New York Jets in 2019, and he spent the 2020 season in Kansas City with the Chiefs, where he got to know Poles when the current Bears GM was assistant director of player personnel. The Minnesota Vikings‘ hopes for a rookie lineman to claim a starting spot were realized in the preseason — which sent off a veteran addition from the offseason. The Vikings traded former Miami Dolphins guard Jesse Davis to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a conditional 2025 seventh-round pick, per a team release. Davis’ departure comes after he lost a competition for the starting right guard spot to second-round rookie Ed Ingram out of LSU. Former Indianapolis Colts guard Chris Reed, acquired in the offseason, will be the primary backup to both the left and right guard spots on the offensive front. With Ingram’s emergence, the Vikings’ starting offensive line is made entirely of first- or second-round draft picks by Minnesota. The latest Vikings news straight to your inbox! A teenage Pennsylvania National Guard soldier undergoing basic combat training with her twin sister has died of a 'rare heart abnormality.'  PFC Alyssa Cahoon, 17, died on August 25 'with her family by her bedside,' the 1st Battalion 34th Regiment announced on Friday. She had been undergoing basic combat training at South Carolina's Fort Jackson Army Base, where she quickly rose to Squad Leader working as a 42A Human Resource Specialist alongside her twin sister, Brianna. The two were just five days away from graduating when Alyssa suddenly collapsed during physical training on August 20. She was immediately transported by Fort Jackson Emergency Medical Services to a hospital off-base for treatment, WLTX reports, where she was pronounced dead on Thursday. The U.S. Army announced it would investigate her death, but on Sunday, Alyssa's mom, Susan, said she died of a 'rare heart abnormality. 'Doctors found a completely undetectable and very rare heart abnormality,' Susan wrote in a tribute on Facebook. 'As tragic as this loss is, her sacrifice will save Brianna (her identical twin) who has the same heart abnormality, but will now...
The Lakers shook things up on Thursday night when they traded for Patrick Beverley On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz struck a deal for Patrick Beverley that was fertile ground for memes and reactions given the lack of amicability between Russell Westbrook and Pat Bev. Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson are the outgoing pieces for the Lakers, meaning the Lakers rotation will look a little bit different moving forward. Patrick Beverley adds a certain intensity and competitive expectation to a Lakers team that missed the postseason altogether last year. Los Angeles has higher expectations, and Beverley’s energy will certainly help make that clear on a daily basis. Once a thorn in the Lakers side when he was with the LA Clippers as a same-building rival, Beverley’s borderline-annoying defensive style now moves over to the Lakers’ side of Crypto dot com Arena.Los Angeles Lakers lineup after Patrick Beverley tradeThis is what we’d anticipate the Lakers starting lineup to look like after the Patrick Beverley trade, barring any further moves: Point Guard: Russell Westbrook Shooting Guard: Lonnie Walker...
Striking new footage from Texas has emerged showing the National Guard locking a gate on private property, only for the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents to arrive and unlock the fence, allowing the 25 or so migrants in. The footage was captured by Fox News's border reporting team, using drones. They said it was the first time they had seen such a scenario. The incident also underscores the differing approach by the state and federal teams. Bill Melugin, Fox's correspondent on the border, tweeted that it was the first time he had seen the National Guard locking the gate and standing guard. 'Border Patrol opening gates etc to allow migrants in is not new,' he explained.  'They have to process migrants on U.S. soil per federal law.  'What's new is TX is now closing the gate & denying entry at this major crossing location. Always open in months past, including this video I shot in May.'  A group of around 25 migrants are seen waiting on the Mexican side of the fence, as the National Guard stands watch Border Patrol...
A Houston Catholic business school dean who once served as a Swiss Guard to Pope John Paul II has resigned in disgrace after allegedly lying about having several degrees. Mario Enzler was forced to step down from his job at the University of St Thomas on Friday after the scandal broke. The professor, who served as a Swiss Guard - the Vatican's armed forces which protects the pontiff - and who once met Mother Teresa, said he got a doctorate from a university in his native Italy that does not offer PhDs. Meanwhile the college he claimed he got his bachelor's degree from was revealed to only be a high school. A search committee into his hiring had found he actually had a PhD in music and a bachelor's degree in classics - but he was taken on anyway and lasted two years. Enzler is best known for being a Swiss Guard to Pope John Paul II, which he wrote a book about Mario Enzler (pictured) resigned on Friday after two professors looked into his resume after claiming he was...

Getty Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies. Last season, the Golden State Warriors battled all the way to winning their fourth championship in the last eight years. They trekked through the regular season, dealing with a multitude of injuries along the way, and then marched all the way through the playoffs. Throughout the postseason, they formed a couple of rivalries. Their matchup with the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals caused some bad blood, but perhaps the most mesmerizing encounter was their series against the Memphis Grizzlies. There was obviously some tension there, and there still is to this day. However, star forward Draymond Green just recently compared Ja Morant to himself on the latest edition of his podcast, The Draymond Green Show. Despite the rivalry between the two teams, there’s very clearly a level of respect there. Morant took to Twitter to react to the statement. “wooo dats real shii ????,” Morant wrote in a quote-tweet of Green’s message. wooo dats real shii ???? https://t.co/1mEGSTQe98 — Ja Morant (@JaMorant)...
Washington, D.C., sent another plea to the Department of Defense for the deployment of the National Guard in response to an influx of migrants after the agency denied the district's initial request. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) sent the follow-up letter, which noted "additional information," as the city scrambles to manage a sudden influx of migrants bused in from Texas in protest of the Biden administration's handling of the border crisis. A July 19 request was rejected on Aug. 4 by the Pentagon, which claimed that the district had been given enough funds from the Federal Emergency Management Administration to manage the situation. Muriel Bowser Alex Brandon/AP DEMOCRATS IN DISARRAY OVER MIGRANT BUSES Bowser sent another request on Thursday, asking for a 90-day deployment of the guard while claiming the Pentagon had only refused her previous request because it failed to understand the situation. We need help from our federal partners as we seek to stabilize and manage our operating environment in this critical moment.I have been honored to work with the men and women...
The mayor of Washington D.C. on Thursday renewed her plea for soldiers to help with migrants being bused to her city, a week after the Pentagon rebuffed her request for the National Guard to be deployed. It came as another bus from Texas was spotted at dawn, unloading migrants in front of the U.S. Capitol. In a letter to the secretary of defense, Mayor Muriel Bowser said support was needed to 'help prevent a prolonged humanitarian crisis in our nation's capital.' Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is sending migrants arriving in his state to Washington, New York and other cities in order to show Democratic leaders the extent of the crisis being faced on the border. Migrants were spotted Thursday at dawn disembarking from a bus they boarded in Texas after crossing into the U.S. from Mexico. In a tweet highlighting the fresh request, Bowser said: 'We need help from our federal partners as we seek to stabilize and manage our operating environment in this critical moment.  'I have been honored to work with the men and women of the D.C....

Getty Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors are a global phenomenon. They may not have the reach that Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had during the superstar’s time there, but when you say the name Stephen Curry, most people know the name, no matter where you are. And in turn, they know who the Warriors are. Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green put those blue and gold jerseys on the map. However, their siblings are pretty talented, too. They just don’t always get the same recognition as their siblings. While most people may think of Seth Curry when looking at siblings of the Big 3, Thompson also has a brother that’s a professional athlete. Trayce Thompson, Klay Thompson’s younger brother, is an outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In a recent interview with Natasha Dye of People, Thompson expressed what it means to see his brother playing for the Dodgers. “It’s the most fun to be a spectator and drink a bunch of beers and eat nachos. And to...
A man was arrested and several others escaped following a robbery of a Hudson Valley UPS warehouse. The incident took place in Rockland County around 4 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 7 at the warehouse located at 31 Murray Hill Drive in Nanuet. The first arriving officers spotted a dark-colored sedan in the parking lot with its lights on and removed the driver, said Det. Norm Peters of the Clarkstown Police. A lone security guard had barricaded himself in the building after spotting the men inside the warehouse burglarizing the building, Peters said. Because the group suspected of the crime was known to carry guns and be violent, Peters said the department called in the CIRT to help clear the building and rescue the security guard. The security guard was removed unharmed and the building was cleared without further incident, Peters said. All other suspects had escaped prior to officers arriving, he added. Items stolen include handbags, shoes, and electronics, police said. "At no time was the public in any danger during this investigation," Peters said. The getaway driver, Amadou Fall, age 19, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,...
