North America's rarest snake has been seen for the first time in four years, but this rim rock crowned snake was found choked to death by a giant centipede it attempted to swallow whole. The interlocked creatures were found by a hiker in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, Florida and CT scans showed the arthropod was one-third the size of the snake that had engulfed about 75 percent of it. The team also found a small wound on the snake's side that was likely from the centipede's powerful venomous pinchers, which sparked a debate about whether the snake died from the poison juice or was choked to death. Researchers at the Florida Museum of Natural History were 'flabbergasted' by the discovery, which is also the first time humans have observed the rock crowned snake's eating habits. The rim rock crowned snake is only found in Florida, but the last time it was seen was 2018. One was spotted by a hiker in the Keys, but this creature was dead with a giant centipede lodged in its...

Joe Rogan blasted China-owned TikTok over it's 'crazy' terms of service, alleging the platform serves as a way for communist Beijing to harvest users' private data. Rogan expressed his concerns Tuesday on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, alleging the popular social media site can easily gain access to 'all the things you have filed away on your phone.' He also accused Bytedance, the app's parent company, of monitoring users' keystrokes and knowing 'every f***ing thing you type.' Rogan's remarks come as mothers on TikTok are removing pictures of their children after raising concerns about the amount of videos of the youngsters that are being saved by potential pedophiles online. Earlier this month, TikTok confirmed its China-based employees can access U.S. user data through robust cybersecurity controls and authorization approval protocols. U.S. government officials have believed TikTok 'is spying' on Americans for quite some time and are urging Apple and Google to remove the platform 'from their app stores for its pattern of surreptitious data practices.' TikTok has confirmed its China-based employees can access US user data, according to a letter written by CEO Shou Zi Chew.  The letter is addressed to nine Republican Senators who raised concerns about privacy data following a recent BuzzFeed News investigation that found such issues. Chew's note also confirmed TikTok's 'Project Texas' program, named in the BuzzFeed News report, saying it aims to safeguard US user data by running TikTok from servers in Texas owned by Oracle. “Don’t bite off more than you can chew” is one of those old, but valid, aphorisms that people and institutions ignore at their peril. Most of us know people who have taken on more debt than they can afford or make promises to friends and families that they cannot honor, with adverse human consequences. Corporations wind up in bankruptcy court when they expand too rapidly or misread markets. That sometimes happens to governments as well, such as the three California cities that have gone bankrupt in recent years by taking on too much debt for projects and benefits that were politically attractive but financially unsustainable. California’s state government has been on an expansionist binge of late, thanks to a torrent of unanticipated tax revenues and immense amounts of federal aid tied to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scarcely a week passes without Gov. Gavin Newsom announcing some new program or expansion of an existing program, such as extending health coverage to more undocumented immigrants, increasing slots for pre-kindergarten care and education, and moving mentally ill homeless people into treatment and housing. There...
United States Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) on Wednesday claimed that oil can be used to generate clean power as the nation transitions to renewables sources of energy. "For us to be strong, to be the superpower of the world, we should develop here in North America a North American energy alliance with Canada and basically Mexico and the United States as one continent basically that could be the energy hub," Manchin told MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe. "We can walk and chew gum at the same time. We can make sure that we produce the cleanest resources basically from fossil but also be able to segue into a cleaner environment with the technology and investments that it'll take to transition," Manchin continued. "I think we can do both, but we have to maintain. You can't do just one and not the other and think we're gonna be fine. And that's what we're running into – the conundrum here. We should be ramping up production," Manchin added. "We should be out there doing everything we can to maintain...
Vladimir Putin could be 'finished' by the invasion of Ukraine after under-estimating military, social and economic resistance at home and abroad, a military expert has suggested. Professor Michael Clarke said that sending soldiers to take Kyiv was 'massively foolish' and could become a 'peak Putin' moment that leads eventually to his downfall. Russian forces are widely seen as having struggled in the face of Ukrainian military resistance and civil disobedience since entering the country 11 days ago. Today president Volodymyr Zelensky vowed that 'God will not forgive' and Ukraine 'will not forget' the slaughter of civilians by Russian forces, saying a 'day of judgement' is coming for them as Moscow was slammed for opening up 'humanitarian corridors' for civilians to flee - with routes leading into Russia itself. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Westminster Hour, Prof Clarke said 'every day the Ukrainian government is still up and running and standing is a political victory for them and a political defeat for Russia'. 'The Russians can occupy the country at a superficial level. But given that the Ukrainians now hate them -...
Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) said Wednesday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that Russian President Vladimir Putin didn’t “understand how brutal urban combat is.” Moulton said, “It’s obvious that it’s going much more in our favor and the Ukrainians’ favor than we anticipated. The Russians are held up.” He continued, “They’re not moving forward. They’re stalled right now. So we’ve never really considered the prospects of a Ukrainian victory. They are facing impossible odds, and yet their courage has been so extraordinary that they are not only holding back the Russian army, they’re beginning to degrade it.” Moulton added, “We’re dealing with someone who is by some accounts a madman, someone who is not making pragmatic decisions, is not even acting in the way he acted in the past. He’s a vicious man who doesn’t even understand combat. This is something people forget about Putin. He’s a KGB agent. He thinks you can do everything with cloak and daggers. He understands assassinations. He doesn’t understand how brutal urban combat is. As someone who’s experienced that myself, I can tell you he’s bitten off...
CHICAGO (CBS) — He comes from a Chicago political dynasty. Now, 11th Ward Alderman Patrick Daley Thompson is before a federal jury charged with tax fraud. CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reports from the Dirksen Federal Building where prosecutors said he lied to the feds about money he borrowed. READ MORE: Tacarre Harper, Alleged Leader Of Smash And Grab' Burglars That Targeted Stores On Mag Mile And Around City, Arrested And ChargedProsecutors also accuse him of thinking he could get away with those alleged lies after the president of the bank that gave him the money killed himself. His attorneys chalk it up to inadvertent mistakes. When it comes to his federal trial, there are a lot of firsts for 11th Ward Alderman Patrick Daley Thompson. Former Mayor Richard M. Gummy supplements are a popular way to dose up on health-boosting ingredients — and they’re not just for children, with some promising to help adults with everything from troublesome sleep to weight loss. There is no doubt they taste better than most standard supplements, but be wary of overdoing the doses by eating them like sweets.  Some are packed with sugar and others contain sweeteners such as maltitol, mannitol and sorbitol, which can cause side-effects including tummy pain and diarrhoea in some people. So are they any good? Here, Dr Lindsy Kass, a sports and nutrition scientist at Hertfordshire University, and Aidan Goggins, a London-based pharmacist and independent adviser to the supplement industry, assessed some of the latest products. We then rated them. Washington (CNN)Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock insisted on Sunday that President Joe Biden and other Democrats could tackle both voting rights and infrastructure legislation at the same time, as the White House prepares to make infrastructure the President's next major priority just as GOP-led state legislatures move to restrict voting access. "We can walk and chew gum at the same time. We've got to work on the infrastructure of our country -- our roads and our bridges -- and we've got to work on the infrastructure of our democracy," the Georgia senator told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" when asked whether Biden should prioritize voting rights over infrastructure. "I think the President is engaged on this issue," he added, referring to voting rights. "And when I've talked to him, he's agreed that voting rights are foundational -- that this is the work we have to do." The comments from Warnock come as the White House begins to shift its focus to Biden's next key initiative after he signed the latest coronavirus stimulus package, with advisers prepping a two-part,...
Chewing ice is a poor habit for dental health. digitalhallway/Getty Images Chewing ice is bad for your teeth because it can damage your tooth enamel, or the protective layer that shields your teeth from decay.  You especially shouldn't chew ice if you have fillings, braces, or other dental restoration work, as it can cause more damage and be expensive to fix.  You may want to find another way to replace the sensation of chewing ice, or only chew softer, crushed ice if you can't break the habit altogether.   Visit Insider's Health Reference library for more advice. If you find yourself craving ice — and specifically wanting to crunch it with your teeth — then you're not alone.  "I have many patients that chew ice on a daily basis, which they admit to me as if it's something terrible during their appointments," says Mark Burhenne, DDS, founder of Ask the Dentist. "It's often a 'guilty pleasure' of sorts." In fact, chewing ice is one of the worst habits that can damage teeth, according to the American Dental Association....
RICKY HATTON hopes title-starved Luke Campbell is a bite too much for Ryan Garcia this weekend. And British boxing legend Hatton - who embraced his yo-yoing weight with a famous fat suit and 'Ricky Fatton' nickname - wonders if Garcia has the appetite for battle or is being fed to a hungry lion too soon. Hatton said: “Campbell has been in there and done the world title rounds with Vasiliy Lomachenko and Jorge Linares and he is a tall southpaw. “Ryan Garcia has so much hand speed and he is one of the biggest prospects in world boxing. On Tuesday, January 5, a runoff election in Georgia will determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Both of the Peach State’s sitting Republican senators will be on the ballot, and if both lose to their Democrat opponents, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will lose his job and the GOP will lose virtually all power to slow or stop the worst excesses of a Biden-Harris administration. What happens on that first Tuesday in January depends to a large degree on whether Georgia Republicans can maintain their focus and their priorities in the face of pressures pulling them off track. Last week, I joined with several of my fellow Georgia Republicans on a letter urging that our focus stay on this essential target – turning out the vote in order to keep David Perdue and Kelley Loeffler in the Senate, and thereby, in the majority. Despite the clear and undebatable need for ensuring as robust a turnout for the January runoff as possible, there are Republicans in Georgia who openly criticized those of us who signed that letter. We were...
