The second year of "the new normal" in a world with COVID saw a significant increase not only in the volume of travelers but also in the number of those trying to bring guns aboard planes, the TSA said Tuesday. With more people traveling last year, Transportation Security Administration officers stopped 5,972 firearms at airport security checkpoints nationwide -- up 3,257 from the year before, said Lisa Farbstein, an agency spokesperson for the TSA. Here's the kicker: Last year's amount was also considerably more than the 4,432 detected in 2019 -- even before the pandemic, she said. In our area, TSA officers discovered a total of 26 handguns at Newark, JFK, LaGuardia, Stewart and Long Island McArthur airport checkpoints last year, up from 17 found in 2020, Farbstein said. Each was discovered during routine airport security screening, she said. Of the guns caught at 268 airport checkpoints nationwide in 2021, more than 85% were loaded. "Under no circumstances are travelers permitted to bring guns through our security checkpoints," Thomas Carter, the TSA’s federal security director for New Jersey, said recently....
Three Long Island women are accused of beating up a security officer and a gate agent at JFK airport after they were banned from their flight for being drunk and failing to wear masks properly. On Wednesday, federal prosecutors charged Jordan Nixon, 21, Janessa Torres, 21, and Johara Zavala, 44, with allegedly beating up multiple workers after they were told they could not board a Delta Airlines flight to Puerto Rico last September. According to the indictment, the incident began when a gate worker noticed the Long Island women were 'visibly disoriented and possibly intoxicated' as they approached the boarding area for a 12:55 pm flight. One of the women also refused to properly wear her mask.  Prosecutors charged Jordan Nixon, 21, Janessa Torres, 21, and Johara Zavala, 44, for allegedly beating up multiple JFK employees after they were told they could not board a Delta Airlines flight to Puerto Rico last September The three Long Island women ganged up on the security officer and punched and kicked him as he lay on the floor, causing his upper lip to bleed RELATED...

IN many ways, seeing our delighted kids' faces when they see what havoc their naughty Elf on the Shelf has wreaked overnight is one of our favourite things about Christmas. But in all the years we've been followed this tradition, we've never once questioned where the Elf on the Shelf trend came from - until now. 2Chanda's mother Carol welcomed 'Fisbee' the elf into their home every year when her kids were growing upCredit: chandabell/Twitter 2Chanda has sold over 13 MILLION Scout Elves since 2004Credit: chandabell/Twitter Growing up, Chanda Bell's mother Carol Aebersold would welcome "Fisbee" the Scout Elf into their home and the cheeky little helper would watch over them during the festive season. Speaking to Forbes in 2019, Chanda said: "I have such wonderful childhood memories with Fisbee. "I remember racing with my brother and sister to see who could find Fisbee first and letting him know what I wanted for Christmas. It really was a holiday tradition that our family enjoyed doing together." In 2004, Carol was facing some health issues when Chanda decided to bring...

(@VolBlood) August 23, 2021 Well, it looks like Tennessee is locked in for an undefeated season and a national title! No way they’re losing with this kind of energy! I mean, you all heard him, right? His guys know how to show up to meetings and walk up the stairs with energy! I don’t envy any squad that finds itself on the field against Tennessee. They simply have no chance against all this great energy, passion and focus.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Tennessee Football (@vol_football) Heupel deserves to 100% get roasted for these comments. Kris and Leigh Nickens of Tampa Bay Poop Patrol.tampabaypoopatrol/Facebook Tampa Bay couple Leigh and Kris Nickens moved back to Tampa Bay in 2020, looked on the ground, and realized the area didn't have enough of something that their Pennsylvania had— pet waste disposal services. And thus Tampa Bay Poo Patrol was born. Their company will come to your house or commercial property—no matter the size—and pick up your dog’s outside poop. (You're on your own with inside accidents.) “We love our dogs and consider them part of the family, but we understand that most people don’t love the poop scooping part of having a dog,” Kris said in an email chat with Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. And the Poo Patrol is much more environmentally friendly than dog-owners normally are. “Dog waste is classified in the same category as insecticides, oil and other toxic chemicals, so safe disposal and using environmentally friendly materials is important to us,” Leigh said.  Keeping it professional, the Poo Patrol doesn’t use old Publix bags to pick up the poop. They use a shovel, rake, and containment system...
IF the Government is expecting us to be pathetically grateful for the partial return of our freedoms on July 19, it should beware a lesson from history. On the same day in 1919, David Lloyd George’s Government planned a Peace Day of marches and, for the great and the good, sumptuous banquets, to celebrate the formal end of the Great War. ???? In several cities riots broke out, while in Luton they burned down the town hall. Obviously, no one condones rioting. But there will be justified anger if the present Government similarly mishandles the end of the Covid crisis. It looks as if 2,500 VIPs and Uefa officials will be allowed into the country for the final of football’s Euros on...
The other day, I was in a metro area Dollar Tree to stock up on Smarties (because, obviously, Smarties are good), when I saw him: the one guy in the store without a mask. The modest-sized outlet was fairly crowded — around fifteen to twenty customers and three employees desperately trying to handle the rush. The store appeared to be short-staffed, with just one checkout line open. Yet all the workers and everyone waiting to pay for items, as well as various folks in aisles, wore a facial covering. Some were cloth, others were made of disposable paper, and all but one were worn properly, concealing both nose and mouth. Even a woman energetically talking on a cell phone was masked, putting the lie to the canard about the voices of those so garbed being impossible to understand. Hell, the people in the parking lot could probably have picked out every word she spoke, loud and clear. The mask-free exception to this rule was, predictably, a man of a certain age — fifties, I'd say — and he wore a...
