A doctor burned to death in his crashed Tesla because the vehicle's electronic door handles didn't pop out, meaning rescuers couldn't save him from the flames, a lawsuit claims. Dr. Omar Awan, 48, died in February 2019 after crashing his Model S on South Flamingo Road in Broward County, Florida. His family have now sued Elon Musk's car company claiming the father-of-five's death could have been avoided were it not for the Tesla's door handles.  The car firm's vehicles have special door handles which sit flush to the cars body. They retract into the vehicle while it is moving, but can pop out when it stops to let people get inside.  After the crash, the initial rescuers on the scene were confused by the car's door handles, which hadn't popped out, and were unable to gain entry, NBC6 reported. First responders then arrived on the scene, and were also left stumped. Teslas are meant to have two back-up safety mechanisms. The first sees the door handles pop out automatically in the event of an accident, unless that accident happens very abruptly....

An ex-soldier who was the second man to undergo a full face transplant in US history says it is 'the best decision I ever made'. Mitch Hunter, from Indianapolis in Indiana, had a full face transplant in 2011, a decade after a car he was in crashed into a 10,000 volt electrical pylon. After pushing a female passenger out of the way of the electrical current, it pumped continuously through his body, mainly through his face, for five minutes.  Mr Hunter, now 42, was forced to spend two months in hospital, underwent 67 facial reconstructive surgeries and had part of his right leg amputated due to severe burns. A decade after the accident, Mr Hunter became just the second person in the US to undergo a face transplant, in a bid to stop children screaming at the sight of him in the street.  He received his face from a donor — a man who had died — and has now fully revealed his incredible transformation.  'Having the transplant was the best decision of my life, and it has helped me put...

The details of Earl Thomas’ departure from Baltimore include a little detailing. The seven-time Pro Bowl safety had his contract terminated Sunday for what Ravens coach John Harbaugh termed “personal conduct that adversely affected the Baltimore Ravens.” Thomas got into an altercation with teammate Chuck Clark during practice last week, but he reportedly also was fined repeatedly for being late to team meetings, including one time this summer when he claimed he was late because he was getting his car washed. “This goes back to the beginning of his tenure with the Ravens, because it was bad last year too. He was late to meetings and they warned him after he got fined repeatedly, ‘look, at some point this is going to be conduct detrimental, which would affect your contract,’” reporter Mike Silver said Monday on NFL Network. “That was last year. And then things picked up right where they left off at this training camp, and not in a good way. “A couple of days before the altercation with Chuck Clark, he had complained that he needed more time...

CHICAGO (CBS) — An unusual fight with a towing lot in west suburban Cicero hinged on a peculiar question of legal authority. Why didn’t Cicero’s department of towing release Arteze Smith’s car when he showed up with not one, but two court orders? CBS 2 Morning Insider Lauren Victory explains the issue. It’s safe to assume no one likes the tow yard. “I’m, I’m, I’m so frustrated,” Smith said. A stammering Smith really doesn’t like the auto pound owned and operated by the town of Cicero. His purchase of a shiny Mustang he dubbed “Knight Rider” lasted about a week, and has been locked up since March. “I’m stressed out to the point where I don’t even want to be around people,” Smith said. His troubles began with a drug arrest outside a gas station. “Everybody makes mistakes,” he said. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office apparently agreed. Prosecutors dropped his criminal case and issued an order to release his impounded car in May, but Cicero’s department of towing wanted their $5,000 in storage fees first. “That’s when he told me,...

A frustrated Wendy's employee who called police on Rayshard Brooks says he appeared intoxicated in his car and was unarmed moments before the black man died in a cop-related shooting in Atlanta, according to a 911 call just before the slaying. Brooks, 27, was gunned down Friday around 10.30pm in the parking lot of a Wendy's off University Avenue after failing a sobriety test, wrestling with officers, stealing a taser and running away.  Surveillance and body cam video along with footage taken by witnesses caught the moment of the police-related slaying which got the officer who allegedly shot Brooks fired and another cop placed on leave.  The newly released 911 recording of the call just prior to the slaying reveals how an unnamed female restaurant worker couldn't get Brooks to move his car out of the fast-food restaurant's drive-thru.
