A third dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for children aged five to 11 raises Omicron-fighting antibody levels 36-fold, the jabs manufacturer said today.  The New York City-based pharmaceutical giant said its results 'reinforce' offering children top-up jabs to 'maintain' protection against the virus. But the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — vaccine regulator in the U.S. — has warned it will not approve extra shots for the age group until more are fully vaccinated. America could become one of the first countries in the world to approve Covid boosters for over-5s, behind Italy which authorized them for the age group in December. The Pfizer vaccine is the only one approved for use among five to 11-year-olds in the U.S. as a first and second dose. The Moderna and Janssen shots — also used in the vaccine roll out — are only approved for over-18s. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has cut the recommended time between receival of the second shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine and a booster shot to five months, down from six. The agency made a similar decision earlier this month for the Modena shot as well, as officials make a larger push to get Americans booster in the wake of the Omicron variant-fueled surge striking the nation. Omicron, which was first discovered by South African officials in late-November, has demonstrated the ability to evade protection against infection provided by the Covid vaccines, but studies have found that the additional booster doses can re-establish some of that protection. Health officials are now putting resources behind a stronger push for these additional jabs, including expanding the age eligibility for them and reducing the wait time between shots. Americans who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine jab are now recommended to receive their booster shot five months after the second dose, down from the previous recommendation of six months (file photo) The Pfizer vaccine (yellow) is not only the most commonly...
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has reportedly made five- and six-figure settlement offers to a number of the 22 women who have sued him for sexual misconduct over the last year. The Daily Beast published one $100,000 offer, which explains that Watson would only enter into the agreement to 'buy peace' and continues to deny the allegations.   The confidential agreement also stipulates that the accuser agree to dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice 'within 24 hours of the Execution Date,' comply with a non-disparagement clause that bars her from criticizing Watson publicly, and forbids her from disclosing the amount of the settlement. The recipient of the offer published by the Daily Beast reportedly declined. Neither Watson's attorney Rusty Hardin nor Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the 22 accusers, immediately responded to DailyMail.com's request for comment. Wisconsin's two US senators, one Republican and one Democrat, came together in a rare bipartisan plea, urging outside groups not to politicize the Waukesha Christmas parade attack so that the community can heal.  Senators Ron Johnson (R) and Tammy Baldwin (D) urged those who 'may attempt to exploit the tragedy that occurred last Sunday in Waukesha for their own political purposes' to 'cease and desist' in their Saturday statement.  '[Local official's] top priority is to begin the healing process within Waukesha by providing comfort and support to surviving family members of the deceased, and those injured both in body and spirit,' they wrote.  'They must also conduct a thorough investigation and afford the accused full due process. These will not be easy tasks, and will be made even more difficult if conducted within a politically charged atmosphere.' The invocation comes a week after Darrell Brooks, 39, plowed his SUV into a local holiday parade on November 21, killing six and injuring 60.  The statement did not call on any specific individuals or groups.  Senators Ron Johnson (R) (left) and Tammy Baldwin...

Former Boulder County sheriff deputy James O'Brien was sentenced to six years followed by three years of parole. His partner in crime Adam Lunn was given three years in prison with another three on parole for the 2018 death of Demetrius Roy Shankling. In a statement released Thursday Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said: 'This entire incident is a tragedy to everyone involved, including Mr Shankling and his family, as well as these former deputies and their families.  'I’m sure of one thing, this death did not need to occur. I’m also sure these former deputies intended no harm. I am confident we took all the necessary steps for accountability and transparency during this process. We relied on the justice system for a just outcome, and we trust that outcome is the best it can be under a horrible and yet preventable situation. I am deeply saddened for...
A mother who killed her five youngest children after seeing a picture of her ex-husband with a new woman has been jailed for life in Germany. Christiane K, now 28, drugged daughters Melina, one, Leonie, two, and Sophie, three, along with sons Timo, six, and Luca, eight, in September last year before suffocating or drowning them in the bath and placing their bodies in their beds. Her eldest son, 11-year-old Marcel, survived only because he was at school but told the court that his mother asked him to jump in front of a train with her when he arrived home. He refused, and was instead put on a train to his grandmother's house. Christiane then attempted to kill herself by jumping on to tracks in Dusseldorf, but survived and was arrested. On Thursday, a court in the city of Solingen jailed her for a minimum of 15 years while all-but ruling out the possibility of release after that. Christiane K, now 28, has been jailed for life with a minimum of 15 years in jail and little prospect of release...
A mother has pleaded guilty to horrifically abusing her five adopted children, beating and strangling them, depriving them of food and forcing them to sleep in a frigid basement without any bedding. Stephanie Duncan, 43, of Annville Township, Pennsylvania, faces up to 288 years in prison after pleading guilty to the abuse of the children, aged between six and 15. Duncan's husband Robert pleaded guilty to having failed to intervene and was sentenced last week to between six and 30 years in prison.  The Duncans punched and strangled all four of the boys, while they smacked the youngest, a six-year-old girl, in the mouth. The siblings were subjected to the terrifying beatings for failing to complete chores on time, and even for 'stealing' water from the sink when they got thirsty.  The three eldest boys were forced to sleep downstairs in the basement with just a space heater for warmth and a mattress which lay directly on the concrete floor.  The abuse was uncovered when the couple's 11-year-old son, named only as L.D., was rushed to hospital with hypothermia. Court documents...

The Navy later confirmed their identities to be Lieutenant Bradley Foster, 29, from Oakhurst, California; Lieutenant Paul Fridley, 28, from Annadale, Virginia; Naval Air Crewman 2nd Class James Buriak, 31, from Salem, Virginia; Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Sarah Burns, 31, from Severna Park, Maryland; and Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Bailey Tucker, 21, from St. Louis, Missouri.  The Navy formally announced their deaths last month after a three-day search and rescue mission failed to find the wreckage. The wreckage of the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter was finally recovered on Friday by salvage divers from the multi-purpose service vessel HOS Bayou. The helicopter was found 5300 feet, or roughly one mile, below sea level, around 60 miles southwest of San Diego on October 8. The Navy withheld the discovery from the public until today in order to tell the sailors' families....
ALLY MCCOIST believes that Rangers and Celtic would become part of England's top six within five years, if they were to move south of the border. But the Ibrox legend doesn't think either side would be up to much in their current iterations. 2Ally McCoist reckons that both Old Firm clubs could reach England's top six within five yearsCredit: The Sun And he can't see either club making the move down to England any time soon. While on talkSPORT co-hosting duties, he said: "It isn't going to happen is it? Let's be honest about it. "It would be brilliant. Make no mistake about it, Rangers and Celtic are big enough clubs to be playing in the top flight in England, of that there is no doubt. "In fact they are probably two of the biggest five or six clubs in the United Kingdom. "However, it is not going to happen. It is like the old saying: 'You don't get turkey's voting for Christmas.'" Then quizzed how the Old Firm would do in England this year, McCoist, 59, replied: "This season?...
