The fourth week of the college football season is in the books. Let’s take a look at how the top quarterback prospects performed in the latest edition of “In the Market: 2023 QB stock watch.” Another week of football is in the books. In college football, the usual suspects ranked atop the nation have won their respective games, while there were also some upsets. In the NFL, the games were not as electric as in the week prior, with the San Francisco 49ers-Denver Broncos and New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys games standing out. Considering that Week 4 of the college football season is finished, some fans may not have seen how the top quarterback prospects have performed in their respective games. We have you covered, as we take a look to see whether some of the best signal callers have increased their stock, or if their chances of being taken high in the 2023 NFL Draft have plummeted. Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud. (Adam Cairns-USA TODAY Sports) The 2022 NFL season has hit Week 2, which means it is time for our weekly 2023 NFL mock drafts, and here, Atlanta gets their franchise quarterback. With two weeks of the 2022 NFL season in the books, the time has come to take a look at what the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft could look like. Needs are already apparent for many teams, including those looking for their first win, and here is our first mock of the season. Here is our latest 2023 NFL mock draft, with the order courtesy of tankathon.com.2023 NFL mock draft: Atlanta Falcons get their franchise QB at No. 1 overall 1 CJ Stroud QB, Atlanta Falcons The Atlanta Falcons made the move for Marcus Mariota this past offseason after Matt Ryan made his way to the Indianapolis Colts. Taking a look at how the top quarterback prospects in the NFL Draft performed in Week 3 of the college football season. It may only be the start of the NFL season, but that is not going to stop some fans from scouting the top prospects in the 2023 draft. Of course, the one position that garners the most position is at quarterback. There are fanbases in the NFL that are not exactly keen on their current starter, and keep track as to which college signal-callers are worth selecting. With that, we introduce “In the Market,” where we look at how the top quarterbacks in the 2023 class performed on a weekly basis, a player who has proven themselves to be a sleeper candidate, and which quarterback needs to show more next week.Taking Stock: How top 2023 NFL Draft QBs fared in Week 3Bryce Young, AlabamaFirst on the list is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Bryce Young. Getty Desmond Ridder #9 of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Cincinnati product Desmond Ridder may have not been the first quarterback to go off of the board during the 2022 NFL Draft, however, he’s the highest-rated rookie QB in the league, according to Madden 23. Madden recently dropped their pre-season Madden 23 ratings and both Desmond and Malik Willis scored higher than Kenny Pickett, who was the first selected back in round 1. Getty The Falcons are advised to keep watching a franchise QB ahead of 2023's draft. Try as they might, the Atlanta Falcons can’t avoid the troubling questions about their quarterback situation. Those questions started with the decision to trade Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts in March, and they’ve only multiplied based on how the team has tried to replace the face of the franchise for 14 seasons. Marcus Mariota was added during free agency, but he’s spent the past two seasons as a backup for the Las Vegas Raiders. Mariota lost his last starting job, as a member of the Tennessee Titans in 2019, on the watch of current Falcons’ head coach Arthur Smith. If Mariota can’t rediscover the old magic, third-round pick Desmond Ridder will be thrown into the fray ahead of schedule. Ridder’s got plenty of promise, but he’s still a rookie trying to turn around a losing team. ALL the latest Falcons news straight to your inbox! Join the Heavy on Falcons newsletter here! Joe Sargent/Getty Images Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens throws a pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on December 5, 2021. The first round of the 2018 NFL Draft included five quarterbacks, and the Baltimore Ravens got the only one with an NFL Most Valuable Player award to his credit — this despite the fact that Lamar Jackson was the last of the five QBs selected. So it’s perhaps no surprise that Jackson goes off the board No. 2 overall — to the New York Giants — in a new 2018 Re-Draft orchestrated by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report. Josh Allen Replaces Baker Mayfield as the No. 1 Overall PickThe only player to go ahead of Jackson is quarterback Josh Allen (Wyoming), who gets awarded to the Cleveland Browns in lieu of actual No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield. “Allen has topped 4,400 passing yards each of the past two seasons, throwing 73 touchdown passes against just 25 picks. He’s a threat on the ground, too, having gained over 400 rushing yards in each of...
Getty Images Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield. The Carolina Panthers say they’re still in the mix to add a veteran quarterback like Cleveland Browns gunslinger Baker Mayfield, despite taking Matt Corral in the NFL Draft last month. The Panthers were thought to be out of the mix after adding Corral in the third round of the draft. However, head coach Matt Rhule is leaving the door open on adding another QB to the room that includes Sam Darnold and PJ Walker. “We want to have a really strong quarterback room,” Rhule told reporters on Friday during rookie minicamp, “so I don’t think we would say no to a veteran at this point.” The statement from Rhule slightly contradicts what general manager Scott Fitterer said after the draft, committing to the quarterbacks on his roster. “We’re happy with the group we have,” Fitterer said. “I never put an absolute on anything. [But] we came into this weekend with the intention of getting a quarterback, and that’s what we did. And we’re going to go with this group.”Baker Mayfield Coming...
Getty The Buccaneers could be preparing for life after Tom Brady with their first pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could land an interesting quarterback as Tom Brady’s potential replacement. According to Cam Mellor of Pro Football Network’s 2023 NFL mock draft, the Buccaneers will land University of Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 31 overall pick. Mellor explains why the Bucs will select their second Gators quarterback with a high draft pick in the past three seasons. Tampa Bay previously selected Gators QB Kyle Trask with a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. “Another Gator in this first round and another Gator quarterback to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” says Mellor. “This time, however, Anthony Richardon’s skill set is a dramatic improvement over Kyle Trask’s. Richardson has an elite arm. He’ll drop perfectly placed throws 50 yards downfield with the flick of a wrist.” In this scenario, it’s likely Brady calls it a career — he has yet to commit past this season — which leaves the Bucs without a starting quarterback...
Getty The Seahawks could target Bryce Young as their next franchise quarterback. The Seattle Seahawks could be looking at their new future franchise quarterback. Cam Mellor of Pro Football Network recently released an early version of his 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Based upon his projections, the Seahawks will select their new franchise quarterback in the University of Alabama’s Bryce Young with the ninth overall pick. “Similar to the Lions, the Seattle Seahawks were so adamant about not wanting to take a quarterback in the top portion of the 2022 NFL Draft that they tried their hardest to trade down,” said Mellor on April 30. “After unsuccessfully doing so, the Seahawks have a pair of bookend tackles for new quarterback Bryce Young.” According to Mellor, Young possesses an “elite right arm” and a moxie that rivals the most experienced quarterbacks in the game today. “The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Young possesses an elite right arm and a moxie that rivals the most seasoned NFL quarterback today,” says Mellor. “He stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball accurately...

(Photo by Otto Greule Jr /Getty Images) The Seattle Seahawks didn’t end up taking a big name at quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, so there is expected to be a competition under center between the team’s top two veterans. Head coach Pete Carroll recently gave his thoughts on who is in the driver’s seat for the starting job, but there is still an entire offseason, training camp, and preseason before any decision needs to be made. Former Legion of Boom star Richard Sherman also weighed in with his thoughts on the QB battle. Appearing on The Richard Sherman Podcast with PFF, the former Seahawks cornerback was asked about his thoughts on this year’s draft class before talking about Seattle’s quarterbacks, and he felt strongly that Geno Smith should be the starter over Drew Lock. “I think Geno is going to be the...
Getty Former Boston College QB EJ Perry leads Brown against Princeton on Saturday. The life of an undrafted free agent is a fast and furious one, filled with agents working the phones looking to find their clients the best possible landing spots. For EJ Perry, that appeared to be a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles’ depth chart until it wasn’t. The Eagles had signed the rookie quarterback to a contract after the draft, but the former Brown University (and Boston College) standout reversed course after Philly inked Carson Strong. Perry decided to accept an offer from the Jacksonville Jaguars instead, telling the Providence Journal (via agent Sean Stellato) that it was a better opportunity. Meanwhile, Strong received a deal worth $320,000 to make him the highest-paid undrafted free agent in this year’s draft class. So Perry wasn’t wrong. The Eagles have starter Jalen Hurts and backup Gardner Minshew already entrenched, plus Strong coming in to fight for the third-string spot. Perry will face less competition in Jacksonville where he has a chance to learn under quarterback whisperer Doug...
Getty Malik Willis of Liberty throws during the NFL Combine. Just because the Dallas Cowboys have Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback, that doesn’t mean the NFL team wasn’t considering drafting another. Prescott has two Pro Bowls to his name and has been Dallas’ preferred starting QB for the past six seasons. However, a lack of success in the postseason and a season-ending ankle injury in 2020 have made his future a bit less certain. Now, NFL media insider Ian Rapoport is pointing out that the Cowboys may have had interest in Malik Willis, the Liberty quarterback who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft. It’s important to note that Rapoport isn’t confirming Dallas and owner Jerry Jones were interested in Willis. However, Rapoport is thinking about why Tennessee felt the need to jump the Cowboys. “When you get to the third round, this is where you would take a quarterback who’s probably, sorta going to at least start out to be a backup. I wondered if the Titans thought...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper preached patience last week when it came to breaking the losing cycle and building a consistent winner. Over the weekend, the Panthers stayed true to that plan. Instead of reaching for a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick, Carolina’s big three decision-makers — Tepper, general manager Scott Fitterer and coach Matt Rhule — selected offensive tackle Ikem “Ickey” Ekwonu from North Carolina State, filling a less flashy but equally as important need when it comes to building sustained success. The move demonstrates that the Panthers’ patience in Rhule may be a little longer than many believe after back-to-back five-win seasons and that Tepper’s statement last week of “I believe in Matt and he has my full support” has some real merit. After all, if Rhule were pressing to keep his job the obvious move would have been to put a priority on finding a quarterback to replace the struggling Sam Darnold. Instead, the Panthers waited as three QBs came off the board before trading up into the bottom half of...

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has said that the team would go to training camp with four quarterbacks on its roster. Getty Nevada Quarterback Carson Strong warms up. The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t see a cornerback worth drafting in the 2022 NFL draft. Instead, they allocated their resources toward defensive tackle, center, linebacker, and tight end. It seems the team was waiting to see what undrafted rookie free agents might be available. Luckily, they got a quite a few good ones. The Eagles inked Clemson cornerback Mario Goodrich to a whopping $217,000 fully guaranteed contract after the draft, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. Goodrich was credited with 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and five interceptions in 1,116 snaps over 47 games (16 starts) in college. He was a first-team, All-ACC selection at Clemson alongside second-round pick Andrew Booth Jr. Former Clemson CB Mario Goodrich is signing with the #Eagles on a deal that includes a whopping $217,000 fully guaranteed – more than late-round picks receive, per his agents @NessMugrabi and @davidcanter. — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) April 30, 2022 Goodrich (6-foot, 176 pounds) has been lauded by scouts for his “size and physical brand of coverage.” He was named...
Pete Carroll is somehow cool with the dire quarterback situation for the Seattle Seahawks. Armed with the likes of Drew Lock, Geno Smith and Jacob Eason, Pete Carroll is ready to take on the NFL world with his holy triumvirate of Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks. Though all three were very notable signal-callers in college, people are wondering why the Seahawks have not taken a quarterback this spring through the NFL Draft. It may be a weak draft for the position, but seemingly all other quarterback-desperate teams (Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders) have all acquired one. Carroll is probably not taking one now. He is accurate, he is comfortable in the pocket, he has plenty of arm strength to go with anticipation and for my money can make all the NFL throws needed to be successful. I see similarities with other 6-foot-tall QBs who have been successful in the last decade in the NFL.” Talent evaluators also noted...

Getty NBC Sports NFL analyst Chris Simms gushed over the Vikings selecting Georgia safety Lewis Cine (16) in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 28, 2022. The Minnesota Vikings selected Georgia safety Lewis Cine with the final pick of the first round after trading down from the No. 12 spot — a move that was met with scrutiny due to the players still available before the trade. That included the consensus top safety Kyle Hamilton, who the Baltimore Ravens selected at No. 14 overall. However, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was ecstatic about the value of selecting Cine with the 32nd pick received in a trade with the Detroit Lions. The Vikings got the second-best safety in the draft (whom Adofo-Mensah said they were eyeing in the teens of the draft), along with moving up 12 spots in the second round and a third-round pick. How Cine (pronounced seen) compares to Hamilton this upcoming season will be closely followed by critics of the new regime’s trade. However, NBC Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback...
Kenny Pickett is staying in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Steelers grabbed the former University of Pittsburgh star with the 20th overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, making him the heir apparent to Ben Roethlisberger, who retired in January. Pickett spent five seasons working on the other side of the building the Steelers share with the Panthers, coming into his own last fall when he threw for 42 touchdowns, was named ACC Player of the Year and finished third in the Heisman Trophy behind Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. The pick caps a meteoric rise for Pickett, who decided to come back for a fifth season rather than enter the draft last spring. Pickett’s bet on himself paid off handsomely as he led the Panthers to an ACC title while he skyrocketed up draft boards. Pickett was the first quarterback taken in what is considered a so-so class. The last time the first quarterback off the board was taken 20th or later was in 1997 when San Francisco selected Jim Druckenmiller with the...

Getty NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of NFL.com speculated that the Indianapolis Colts could trade for a first-round pick to select a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Indianapolis Colts will not make a selection on the first day of the 2022 NFL Draft. Well, at least going into the draft, that’s how it looks. The Colts do not have a first-round pick in this year’s draft because of the Carson Wentz trade with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason. But NFL Insider Ian Rapoport speculated that Indianapolis could be interested in acquiring a first-round pick on draft night. Rapoport suggested the Colts are one of three teams — the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons being the others — to watch towards the end of the first round. The NFL insider said on April 27 that any of those three teams could acquire a pick late in the round to draft a quarterback. “I would also keep an eye on Seattle, early in the second round trading back into the first round,” Rapoport said. “The Falcons, who still have a need at quarterback,...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer has informed current starter Sam Darnold the team plans to add another quarterback soon. Whether that will be with the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft Thursday night or via trade for a veteran after the draft remains to be seen. While this is not considered a strong quarterback class — and many draft pundits question whether any of them are worthy of being selected in the top 10 — Fitterer said the Panthers would feel comfortable taking one with the No. 6 pick. “I think there is a talent level on a couple of them this year that can help us, whether that is at six or moving around,” Fitterer said. “If we had to pick one at six I would feel comfortable with one of them, or actually a couple of them, at six.” Fitterer said trading for a veteran remains an option but that likely wouldn’t happen until after the NFL draft. He wouldn’t discuss specific players on other NFL teams because of league rules, but...
Getty Will the Atlanta Falcons draft a QB with Michael Vick "vibes" or one compared to Ryan Tannehill? Matt Ryan isn’t under center any more for the Atlanta Falcons, after his trade to the Indianapolis Colts ended 13 seasons of stability at football’s most important position. Now the Falcons need a long-term plan to replace the man who helped bring respectability back to the franchise after Michael Vick was suspended in 2007 and subsequently incarcerated for his part in a dog-fighting ring. The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly need to draft a quarterback of the future but is their decision in the 2022 NFL Draft really down to two prospects? Perhaps the worst-kept secret this offseason and, specifically, leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a quarterback. Sure, Mason Rudolph is on the roster and the club signed Mitchell Trubisky in free agency. But that still leaves them searching for a long-term replacement for franchise legend Ben Roethlisberger. With the draft now just days away, the Steelers’ proverbial wishlist as to who they would like to add as their potential signal-caller of the future might be down to two players — at least in terms of the No. 20 overall pick. Breaking down the outlook for the first round, Albert Breer’s draft-week MMQB column contained this tidbit for the Steelers, indicating that their focus at quarterback is down to Malik Willis out of Liberty and Kenny Pickett out of Pittsburgh: The Steelers have done a ton of work on Willis, and have an ideal...
The Pac-12 is well positioned to end an unseemly streak when the NFL Draft begins Thursday evening in Las Vegas. In each of the past three years, the conference has produced just three first-round selections. This year, four players are expected to be picked on Day One, and a fifth name might be called, as well. Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, USC receiver Drake London, Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd and Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie are considered first-round locks by draft analysts. A second Washington cornerback, Kyler Gordon, is viewed as a borderline Day One prospect. Success in the first round matters, particularly on the recruiting trail. Elite prospects from the West Coast are motivated by two factors to sign with powerhouses elsewhere: The chance to participate in the College Football Playoff, and the lure of becoming a first-round pick. On both fronts, the Pac-12 is lagging: It hasn’t placed a team in the CFP since the 2016 season and typically generates fewer first-round selections than most peers. So, when the team’s official Twitter account asked their 1.3 million followers what position the Bills should target first in the 2022 NFL Draft, they probably weren’t expecting an answer from Allen. While analysts across the league have pored over each and every direction the Bills might swing with their No. 25 overall pick, Allen offered up an answer so ridiculous that it went viral. A dearth of premier passers in the upcoming NFL draft meant the quarterback carousel spun faster than ever this spring. Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Marcus Mariota, Carson Wentz, Teddy Bridgewater, Drew Lock and Deshaun Watson all changed teams in 2022. Franchises still searching for a prized quarterback won’t find much star power in this year’s crop of college QBs, although there are potential upgrades in the likes of Liberty’s Malik Willis, Pitt’s Kenny Pickett, Ole Miss’s Matt Corral, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder and North Carolina’s Sam Howell. None of them will rise to the very top of the draft as 16 quarterbacks have done this century, including Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield over the past four years. This might even be the first draft since 2013 without a quarterback selected in the top 10. NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah noted he was 32 minutes into a media conference call before he was even asked about this QB class. “So that tells you it’s a little bit different draft,” he said. “None of the quarterbacks just...
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The talent of the quarterbacks who might be available to the Atlanta Falcons in 2023 could impact decisions by general manager Terry Fontenot with the No. 8 overall pick in next week’s NFL draft. Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett and Liberty’s Malik Willis are the top-rated quarterbacks this year. Fontenot and coach Arthur Smith must find a new plan at quarterback after trading longtime starter Matt Ryan to Indianapolis last month. The Falcons’ leadership could be weighing their grades of Willis and Pickett against the more highly regarded 2023 class that includes Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud. The Falcons need help at many positions, including edge rusher and wide receiver. With veteran Marcus Mariota signed as the probable 2022 starting quarterback, Fontenot doesn’t have to rush his search for a long-term starter. “If we feel great about a quarterback at whatever pick, then we’re going to take a quarterback, and if we don’t, we’re not going to reach and do something that we’re not excited about,” Fontenot said last month. Fontenot described the...
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers desperately need to find a franchise quarterback —and a left tackle to protect him. Such is the dilemma the Panthers face heading into the NFL draft, where they hold the No. 6 overall selection. For now, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker are the only quarterbacks on the roster, although that figures to change soon. The Panthers attempted to address their glaring quarterback need in the offseason, making a strong pitch to Deshaun Watson before being rebuffed by the controversial QB. Carolina is likely to have its choice of the top three quarterbacks in the draft at No. 6 — Liberty’s Malik Willis, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett and Mississippi’s Matt Corral. And while Panthers coach Matt Rhule said at the NFL owners meetings he expects at least one quarterback to be selected in the top 10, it could be a reach to take any of them as early as No. 6. “Part of this process has been really evaluating the trade market, and evaluating the draft; see who all is there,” Rhule told the...
    44. CLEVELAND BROWNS (8-9) LAST SEASON: Perhaps the NFL’s most disappointing team, the Browns fell way short of expectations after making the playoffs in coach Kevin Stefanski’s first season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a left shoulder injury in Week 2 and never got untracked. He’s on the trading block following the team’s stunning acquisition of Deshaun Watson from Houston. Cleveland’s offense lacked firepower — running back Kareem Hunt’s injury and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr’.s messy release made things worse — and the unit didn’t score enough to complement a defense that played well despite new faces. FREE AGENCY/TRADES: Acquired Watson from Houston for three first-round draft picks and more. Acquired WR Amari Cooper from Dallas. Acquired DE Chase Winovich from New England for LB Mack Wilson. Released WR Jarvis Landry, C JC Tretter and TE Austin Cooper. Traded QB Case Keenum. Placed franchise tag on TE David Njoku. Re-signed LB Anthony Walker Jr., T Chris Hubbard, K Chase McLaughlin, S Ronnie Harrison. Signed QBs Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs, C Ethan Pocic, WR/KR Jakeem Grant, DT Taven Bryan,...
    6. CAROLINA PANTHERS (5-12) LAST SEASON: The Panthers suffered through another five-win season under Matt Rhule, leaving the third-year coach squarely on the hot seat. A major problem has been Carolina’s inability to land a franchise quarterback. After moving on from Teddy Bridgewater following the 2021 season, the Panthers sent three draft picks to the New York Jets for Sam Darnold. But Darnold has disappointed in Carolina. Cam Newton was brought back midseason, but went 0-5 as the starter as past shoulder issues continued to limit his ability as a passer. Carolina went all in this offseason trying to land Deshaun Watson, but came up short. Darnold and P.J. Walker are currently the only QBs on Carolina’s roster. Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo remain options at quarterback if the Panthers decide against taking Liberty’s Malik Willis or Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett with the No. 6 pick. Trading out of the sixth spot and adding draft picks remains an option, too. FREE AGENCY/TRADES: Lost RB Ameer Abdullah, LBs Jermaine Carter and Haason Reddick, CB Stephon Gilmore and DT DaQuan Jones. Released...
Getty This former NFL rushing champion knows which QB the Falcons should draft 8th overall. The Atlanta Falcons have had a busy offseason resetting their options at quarterback. Matt Ryan was traded to the Indianapolis Colts and Marcus Mariota added in free agency, both after the Falcons took part in an ultimately fruitless pursuit of Deshaun Watson. There’s been a lot of change at football’s most important position in Atlanta, but the Falcons might not be finished just yet. Mariota looks like the de facto starter, but his new team owns the eighth-overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, a prime spot to take one of the best quarterbacks in this class. It’s an option a former Pro Bowl running back believes the Falcons will take. This ex-player, who won the league’s rushing title in 2011, thinks the Falcons won’t look beyond a dual-threat quarterback with similar skills to those possessed by Mariota and Watson. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) A new chapter was written Wednesday in the curious case of Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, this one featuring a long-time division rival. The Browns are looking to trade their spurned signal caller for whatever draft compensation they can squeeze out of one of the NFL’s quarterback-starved franchises, with the Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks lined up as the most likely suitors. The Pittsburgh Steelers have not been reported to be among the teams interested in dealing for Mayfield. However, NFL insider Jeff Darlington reported on the Wednesday, April 20 edition of ESPN’s morning show “Get Up” that if the Browns fail to trade Mayfield and end up releasing him, the Steelers will be waiting with open arms. “If for some reason the Browns — and I don’t expect this to happen — were to cut Baker Mayfield, I think...
Getty Liberty quarterback Malik Willis. The 2022 NFL Draft kicks off next week and still, nobody can pinpoint exactly who the Atlanta Falcons will turn to at No. 8 overall. But according to sources who have spoken to NFL Rumors intern, Brandon Jensen, the Falcons are “very high” on quarterback prospect Malik Willis as of Wednesday, April 19. Getty Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky #10 of the Buffalo Bills warms up before the game against the Miami Dolphins in the game at Hard Rock Stadium on September 19, 2021. While the Buffalo Bills made it clear that they would love to keep quarterback Mitchell Trubisky as Josh Allen’s backup for the 2022 NFL season, the former Chicago Bears starter, set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, was looking to return to his role as QB1. Last month, the former No. 2 overall pick signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a $14.25 million contract that “can escalate up to $27 million with various incentives,” per NBC Sports. Trubisky stands as the clear front-runner to take over for a retired Ben Roethlisberger, but according to Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon, that role is likely to be short-lived. In need of a long-term answer at the quarterback position, the Pittsburgh Steelers are taking a long look at all of the top QB prospects available in the 2022 NFL Draft. To date, the Steelers have been most closely linked with Liberty University quarterback Malik Willis, so much so that head coach Mike Tomlin is said to “really want him.” Conversely, the Steelers have not often been linked with Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral, which could mean that the team’s decision makers aren’t that into him. Or they could be keeping their interest quiet, in hopes of being able to select him with their first-round pick. The latest Steelers news straight to your inbox! The Carolina Panthers could shock everyone and take Matt Corral out of Ole Miss at No. 6 instead of going chalk with Kenny Pickett out of Pitt. Expected to go quarterback at No. 6, the Carolina Panthers could target Kenny Pickett out of Pitt, Malik Willis out of Liberty or, quite possibly, Matt Corral out of Ole Miss. Peter Schrager said on Good Morning Football Tuesday that, while all signs point to the Panthers going chalk and going with Pickett at No. 6, keep an eye on Corral. Pickett may share the same alma mater as Panthers owner David Tepper and had been recruited by Carolina head coach Matt Rhule when he was at Temple, but the allure of Corral as a top-10 pick is growing with every day. Had Corral not suffered an injury in the Sugar Bowl to Baylor, he might have been a top-10 lock. Amidst all the Pickett-to-Panthers talk, I believe Matt Corral is a real possibility at 6 to Carolina, too. ???? https://t.co/9hqf1uiNRj — Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) April 12, 2022 Carolina Panthers could pass on Kenny Pickett and draft...

In this 2022 first-round NFL mock draft, South Florida Sun Sentinel Dolphins columnist Omar Kelly hypothesizes what each team will do based on their needs, the runs on certain positions, and where the strengths and weaknesses in the draft’s talent pool could lead each team when the first round begins on April 28. 1. Jaguars: Georgia DE Travon Walker The Jaguars add a power rusher with inside-outside flexibility and pair him with Josh Allen to create one of the most talented, young, pass rushing duos in the NFL. Getty Malik Willis speaks during the 2022 NFL combine. The Detroit Lions seem to be wide open as it relates to the 2022 NFL draft, and many have seen the team as unpredictable for a variety of reasons not the least of which is their conundrum at quarterback. Many see Detroit as set for the near-future with Jared Goff, but others wonder if the team could elect to surprise and make a move at the position in the draft given the lack of a young player with upside on their roster. For that reason, many have been beating the drum for weeks for Detroit to select a quarterback with one of their picks if not the second-overall selection. Getty One of the top quarterbacks of the 2022 NFL Draft, Malik Willis, will visit the Indianapolis Colts. The Indianapolis Colts traded for veteran signal caller Matt Ryan this offseason, but they have not completely pulled themselves out of the quarterback market in the 2022 NFL Draft. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the Colts have scheduled a meeting with one of the most-highly regarded quarterbacks of this year’s draft class — Liberty’s Malik Willis. “[Indianapolis] is an interesting one because they, of course, very famously, do not have a first-round pick, but if he slips a little bit, maybe they are a surprise team and try to trade up for him,” said Rapoport on NFL Network. Barring a trade, the Colts first pick in the 2022 Draft will be at No. 42 overall in the second round. ALL the latest Colts news straight to your inbox! Join the Heavy on Colts newsletter here! Getty Desmond Ridder of the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Atlanta Falcons were linked to nearly every top quarterback prospect heading into the 2021 NFL draft. But the Falcons didn’t end up drafting a quarterback, instead, they opted for the “best player available” at No. 4 overall and selected tight end, Kyle Pitts––the first non-QB taken off of the draft board last year. Now, heading into the 2022 NFL draft, the Falcons are, once again, tagged to every top QB prospect but whether or not they draft one remains to be seen. Here’s a look at this year’s top QB prospects: Malik Willis – Liberty Kenny Pickett – Pittsburgh Desmond Ridder – Cincinnati Matt Corral – Ole Miss Sam Howell – North Carolina Carson Strong – Nevada While all of them have been linked to the Falcons at No. 8 in different mock drafts, Pickett’s and Willis’s names have popped up the most.
