MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — “It’s kind of what you hear about in movies or in stories or something,” said Gopher golf signee Isabella McCauley. The top two ranked prep girl’s golfers in the Minnesota are sisters, and both Isabella and Reese McCauley have already reached the mountaintop of high school golf. “We’ve never been this close score-wise,” said Reese. Each sister won the state tournament as a freshman. For Reese, that was last year. For Isabella, it was three years ago. A senior this year, Isabella’s sophomore season was lost to COVID-19. Then she missed the postseason last year when she played in the U.S. Women’s Open, allowing two years younger sister Reese to claim the throne. Now, this season Isabella is ranked number one, but Reese is the defending champ. “We’ve definitely gotten more competitive throughout the last year,” said Reese. “We both want each other to do well, but we both want to win,” said Isabella. Reese hits it farther. Bella has the edge in short game. They’ve played countless rounds together, which has pros and cons. “(Isabella’s) very...

But the Tennessee franchise might not be his last destination this season. According to journalist Bobby Marks (ESPN), the Grizzlies have not asked the Madrilenian to pass the medical examination, something that has aroused all kinds of rumors since they did not do it with Rajon Rondo, who has agreed to leave Memphis...

Marc Gasol and Ricky Rubio demonstrated in the duel between the Lakers and Minnesota that they are recovering their best level of play after their discreet start to the season. The Lakers fulfilled the forecast and won 104-112 despite the loss of Anthony Davis, who suffers from Achilles tendon problems and will be out for a few weeks. LeBron James dominated the game and had 30 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. German guard Schröder seconded him with 24 points and Harrell, with 17 points and 6 points off the bench, once again demonstrated why he was named the Sixth Best Man in the League last season. In the absence of Davis, Marc Gasol played 30 minutes, ten more than he had averaged this season. The Spanish pivot added three triples, 11 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. D’Angelo Russell will be out for a period of four to six weeks. The Wolves’ starting point guard will be operated on for a left knee injury. This season he averaged 19.3 points and 5.1 assists. BOSTON (CBS) — After dealing away Andrew Benintendi on Wednesday, the Red Sox added an extremely versatile defensive player on Thursday. Boston reportedly signed free-agent utility man Marwin Gonzalez to a one-year deal worth $3 million, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Gonzalez played under manager Alex Cora when the Sox skipper was the bench coach of the Houston Astros. Gonzalez, 31, played seven seasons for the Astros before spending the last two seasons with the Minnesota Twins. For his career, Gonzalez is a .261 hitter who averages about 15 homers and 50-plus RBIs a year. His best season came in 2017 when he slashed .303/.377/.530 with 23 home runs and 90 RBIs, helping the Astros in their run to a World Series title. He struggled in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, hitting just .211 with five dingers and 22 RBIs in 53 games for Minnesota. But he’s a switch-hitter and has a lot of versatility on defense, so Gonzalez should be able to help plug some holes in Boston. He has experience at all four infield positions and played both right...

Devan Dubnyk didn’t have the homecoming he was looking for in his return to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. on Friday night. Dubnyk made 25 saves but allowed goals to Joel Eriksson Ek and Zach Parise as the Sharks lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Wild. Matt Nieto, who signed as a free agent with San Jose in his October, scored his first goal of the season at the 6:12 mark of the first period. But goaltenders Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen combined to make 28 saves as the Wild took the opener of the two-game series that wraps up Sunday. Kahkonen replaced an injured Talbot after the first period. The Sharks went 0-for-3 on the power play Friday as they still have not won consecutive games this season. The Sharks were 0-for-7 with the man advantage Wednesday in their 2-1 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues. Dubnyk played six seasons for the Wild from 2014 to 2020 when he had a combined record of 177-113-28 in 328 regular season games. After Dubnyk...

Wisconsin vs. Minnesota won’t be played under the lights in primetime this season. The Badgers announced Monday night that the November 28 game will kick at 2:00 EST and will be broadcast on BTN. This is what happens when your main rival is a damn joke. Rivalry games should be played in primetime under the lights. ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Jonas Brodin to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension Tuesday, making another long-term commitment to a key piece of their blue line group. Brodin’s new deal will begin with the 2021-22 season and carry a $6 million annual cap charge through 2027-28. The 27-year-old native of Sweden, who was drafted by the Wild with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 draft, had a career-high 26 assists in 69 games in the virus-shortened season. By ERIC KILLELEA, Mesabi Tribune VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — If you want to know how to accomplish creative goals during a pandemic, ask Karl Sundquist, who managed to finish an entire album in the hinterlands of northern Minnesota. The big yet calm and gregarious man laughed in delight through his beard when talking about how his young son lent his own talents to the record to soon become available on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play Music, among other digital outlets. Sundquist, who is 45, grew up in Virginia where he listened to working-class tales from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Greg Brown, an Iowa based folk singer.
