. La Jornada newspaperSunday, January 17, 2021, p. a11 Melbourne. The arrival of tennis players in Melbourne has been brutal for 47 tennis players who must participate in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam to be played from February 8 to 21, since they will not be able to train during the previous two weeks of quarantine because they have traveled in the flights in which other passengers tested positive for Covid-19. The state of Victoria, where Melbourne is located, announced two positive cases aboard a flight from Los Angeles that was carrying 24 tennis players, while the tournament organization confirmed another case of Covid-19 on an Abu Dhabi-Melbourne flight, in which 23 other participants traveled. The Nets just started full workouts for training camp on Sunday, and they’re already down a body. Young big man Nicolas Claxton will be unavailable for the remainder of camp after being diagnosed with tendinopathy in his right knee. The condition – more commonly referred to as tendonitis – was diagnosed after Claxton had experienced discomfort during workouts over the past week. The Nets had started individual workouts on Tuesday at HSS Training Center. Claxton, 21, will begin the rehabilitation and strengthening process immediately, but it is unclear when Claxton will be available to play. The tight-lipped Nets, as is their custom, declined to offer any timeline whatsoever for Claxton’s return. It’s the latest health setback for the lanky center/power forward, who is gifted but oft-injured and missed much of last season’s rookie campaign. Brooklyn is believed to have had Claxton in the top 20 on their draft board and had been surprised when he fell in last year’s draft. The Nets traded away both of their first-round selections, but landed Claxton with the top pick in the second,...

There is a “99.99999%” chance UFC fans will see Nick Diaz fight again, according to his manager Kevin Mubenga. Diaz is one of the biggest names in the sport, however he hasn’t fought since 2015. That could all change in 2021. It was reported earlier this year by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that Diaz underwent a successful 14-week diet and training routine, as well as a weight cut. Helwani also reported that Diaz was paying close attention to the UFC welterweight division and wanted to fight in early 2021. Diaz has been active on social media the past few months posting videos and pictures of his training. Recently, Mubenga was asked in an interview with Fanatics View about Diaz’s possible return next year. “That’s the millions and millions of dollars question,” Mubenga said via MMA Junkie. “Yeah, the guy...
Getty Pedri celebrates with Griezmann and Messi Pedri has only been a Barcelona player a matter of months but there’s no doubt the 18-year-old has already made a big impression at the Camp Nou. The midfielder has already forced his way into the first team and is a regular currently under manager Ronald Koeman. Barcelona have not been afraid to show off their starlet’s talents either. The club have branded him a “wizard” in training and offered a glimpse of the youngster’s brilliant ball control. It’s been a big week for Pedri on and off the pitch. The youngster started against Atletico Madrid in La Liga and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. He also celebrated his 18th birthday on Thursday after the 4-0 victory in Ukraine. Pedri will be hoping to keep his place in the team for Sunday’s visit from Osasuna in La Liga. Stephen Dorff only had “six or seven weeks” to get into believable shape as a UFC champ in “Embattled,” and somehow he did it. “I was coming off ‘True Detective’,” he told The Post. “I would have liked to have had three months, but I had six or seven weeks and jumped right in with my physical trainer. Put as much size on me as possible.” Dorff continued to explain his prep work for the film, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime: “[I] put on about nine pounds of muscle by eating and exhausting training and we had to kind of Cliff Notes it because we didn’t have the time.” The actor noted that “you can’t over-train. You need the muscles to rest. It’s just a question of hitting it every day and eating a lot. The truth is I’m pretty lean most of the time. I was a little skinny at the end of ‘True Detective,’ I needed to build up my back and lats and shoulders and then you have muscle memory.” Cliff Notes or not,...

Following the completion of an internal investigation that corroborated an ex-NYCFC employee’s sexual harassment allegations against former star player David Villa, Skyler Badillo detailed her disturbing experience as an intern for the soccer club and how her bosses fostered it. In an interview with The Athletic, Badillo explained her position with NYCFC was for the last of her athletic training degree requirements at Long Island University-Brooklyn. It was under the club’s lead trainer Kevin Christen and assistant trainer Melvyn Pamplona that Villa was allegedly allowed to blatantly and repeatedly harass Badillo while she was working, in addition to their own sexist remarks. Badillo recalled an occasion when she failed to adequately remove tape from a player’s leg, to which Christen told her he expected her to be “better at cleaning,” because she was “female.” When she went to remove herself from the situation and fold towels elsewhere in the training room, Christen said, “Am I interrupting your laundry?” Later on in the internship, Badillo said two other training interns at NYCFC’s training facility told her she’d been the subject...
