A Long Island teenager has been killed and four others injured after a convertible Mustang she was traveling swerved, hit a Jeep and flipped - killing her immediately. Isabel Carella, 17, was a passenger in the car driven by Dominic Crocitto, also 17, on Wednesday afternoon. Along for the ride in Crocitto's car was Joseph Gibiino, 16, and 17-year-old Liam Feeley. All four were students at Kings Park High School: Crocitto and Carella had attended the prom together three weeks earlier. Crocitto was driving through the hamlet of Commack, less than five miles from his Kings Park home, when he was 'distracted' and swerved, then lost control. At Easter the Little Petra guesthouse in the heart of Jerusalem’s Christian quarter should be bustling with pilgrims. Instead, the only ‘guests’ are a group of Jewish settlers who, judging by the charred double doors leading to what was the hotel’s souvenir shop, look like they checked in with cutting equipment. But this is not just an unholy squabble over expensive real estate between Christian and Jewish communities in the old city. It’s part of what Jerusalem’s church leaders believe is an existential threat to all Christians in the cradle of the faith. Within a generation they fear, Christian Jerusalem will be no more than a theme park for tourists, its residents and shopkeepers gone, its churches reduced to museums. ‘An exodus of Christians will turn us into Disneyland,’ says the Anglican Archbishop of the city, Hosam Naoum. ‘As Christian leaders we educate people about peace and reconciliation and living together, about sharing the beauty of the Holy Land. We expect others to do the same but today we are hearing more and more radical voices and seeing fertile grounds...

At least 70 family businesses claim millionaire Marcus Lemonis ruined or harmed them by appearing on his reality TV show The Profit, according to new legal paperwork obtained by DailyMail.com. They represent nearly three-quarters of the small firms featured in the seven seasons of the CNBC hit, which is designed to help or rescue firms that are in trouble. The show, which premiered in 2013, follows the business guru on his hunt for struggling small businesses, which he then offers to save by typically presenting them with his financial backing and acumen in exchange for an ownership stake. If the owners agree to the deal, Lemonis assumes full control of the company and uses his expertise to improve operations and make the business profitable. However, lawyers for one company suing the tycoon in New York now allege 70 small firms were 'depicted falsely in an unforgivable manner' and claim they were 'destroyed through the forced and fraudulent indebtedness and crafty theft of the trusted advisor host, Marcus Lemonis.' Plunging vaccination rates are threatening President Joe Biden's goal to have 70 percent of American adults receive their first COVID-19 shot by Independence Day.  Less than 500,000 adults are now receiving their first vaccine each day - down from a peak of 3.4 million in April, The Washington Post reports.  Currently, 51.5 percent of Americans - or 170. 8 million people - have received their first COVID-19 vaccine. 63.5 percent of adults have had at least one jab.  In order to reach the 70 percent goal by July 4, more than 16 million more citizens above the age of 18 would need to have their first shot in the next 28 days.  According to The Washington Post, that is now going to be a hard task, with officials missing preliminary targets by almost two million doses last week.  'Only 2.4 million adults getting their first shot last week, and officials must get a first dose to 4.2 million adults per week to meet Biden’s goal,' the paper reported.  And while the 'slowdown is national, with every state down at least...

The president announced Thursday that the Republican Party has canceled its traditional nominating convention in Florida next month. The reason: coronavirus. DONALD TRUMP: This afternoon, my political team came to me and laid out our plans for the convention in Jacksonville, Florida. It's a place I love. I love that state.  TRUMP EXPLAINS DECISION TO CANCEL JACKSONVILLE PART OF GOP CONVENTION: 'SETTING AN EXAMPLE' But I looked at my team and I said the timing for this event is not right. It is just not right with what's happened recently, the flare-up in Florida. To have a big convention is not the right time. Well, that news will certainly inconvenience some people. It's without precedent in recent history. But in the end, it's hard to believe that canceling a political convention will affect the outcome ultimately of this year's presidential election. Yet it is very likely that the coronavirus lockdowns themselves will affect the outcome. And here's why. The most basic question political polling never changes, is your country on the right track or the wrong track? In a reelection campaign especially that is always the...
Lucian K. Truscott IV July 11, 2020 12:00PM (UTC) The United States Army is at heart like a college fraternity. At the top are the generals, the officers of the frat — seniors who have spent long years working their way to a position of privilege and power. Just beneath them are the colonels, juniors who have signed on to do the frat's shit work, hoping to be recognized by the seniors and rewarded by becoming a general, one of the frat's elected officers. Below them are the lesser members of the frat, the majors and captains and lieutenant colonels, and at the bottom are the pledges, the lieutenants, who are going through initiation into the mysterious customs and ways of the fraternity that is the Army. One of the most important stations on the climb to the top is the colonels list. This is an actual list at the Pentagon of all the lieutenant colonels who will be promoted to full colonel. It's the hurdle you must get over if you're ever to have any hope of becoming...
