LA's County sheriff has likened woke District Attorney George Gascon to an ego-crazed Moses with rules written in stone as he blasted the DA for rejecting 13,238 of his deputies cases. Sheriff Alex Villanueva claims Gascon dismissed the huge number cases presented to him since taking office in 2020 because they 'don't conform to his special directives.'  'He showed up like Moses with his 10 commandments with his tablets and said, 'Here's my special orders, take 'em or take 'em,'' Villanueva told Fox News. 'That does not promote a good working relationship.  'The deputies are going to continue doing their job, they make the arrests, they’ll write the reports, but then what happens after it’s submitted to the D.A is where it all falls apart'  It comes as the city continues to see a spike in violent crime, which has gone up by more than 15 percent since 2020 while Gascon faces his second recall attempt since taking office.  It's also the latest criticism levied against the woke DA after he announced on Thursday that his office would not pursue felony...

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office announced on Tuesday that it will conduct a nearly unprecedented inquest into the police killing of 18-year-old Andrés Guardado, who was shot five times in the back by an LA County Sheriff's deputy this past summer. The independent inquest, which the coroner’s office said will be overseen by a former court of appeals justice, is the first such investigation in more than three decades. “The Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner is committed to transparency and providing the residents of Los Angeles County an independent assessment of its findings in this case,” Los Angeles County Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner Jonathan Lucas said. “An inquest ensures that our residents will have an independent review of all the evidence and findings of our office and of the cause and manner of death of Mr. Guardado.” The statement from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said the inquest gives officials power to “subpoena relevant witnesses to testify and documents to present at the inquest,” after which retired Justice Candace Cooper “will make findings related to the cause and manner of death.” Cooper “will then forward her decision and recommendation to the Medical Examiner-Coroner,” the...
SANTA BARBARA (CBS13) — A plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean and its pilot, a Lake Tahoe area attorney, were recovered from the ocean floor off the Southern California coast, authorities said on Friday. The wrecked plane was found about 180 feet below the surface off the coast of Campus Point after it crashed on Sunday, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities also recovered the body of the pilot, which was confirmed late Thursday as Tahoe area Attorney Deborah Nicholson, 61. Nicholson was the only person aboard the plane. The plane – a Cessna 182 Skylane – reportedly lost communications with the Santa Barbara Airport tower and crashed shortly after taking off on a flight to Truckee, the sheriff’s office said. The unit responsible for tending to cases involving rape, human trafficking, and the physical and sexual abuse of children may be on the chopping block in Los Angeles County. The county CEO Sachi Hamai proposed more than $145.4 million in cuts to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department last week as part of her budget overhaul to make up for revenue losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Her proposal would cut 1,392 positions within the sheriff's office and eliminate several units. Sheriff Alex Villanueva condemned her proposed cuts in a statement posted on Sunday. "The budget cuts announced by county CEO Sachi Hamai are targeted specifically to hurt public safety in Los Angeles County, while sparing virtually every other function of county government from any reductions. The CEO’s recommended budget for the LASD from May was $3.5 billion, a shortfall of $400 million from the true cost of running the largest sheriff’s department in the nation," he wrote. "As we have been busy reorganizing around the first massive reduction, the Board of Supervisors are now set to...
