Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is facing a lot of scrutiny over his fight with Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and local businesses are responding. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore got in yet another fight on Sunday. Evans was sticking up for legendary quarterback and teammate Tom Brady, but he got a one-game suspension for his actions. The NFL isn’t the only place he’s suspended. A New Orleans barbecue restaurant went to the extreme and banned Evans for life. They placed a photo sign on their door with a red sign over Evans’ face, saying, “This is a NO Mike Evans Establishment.” . @MikeEvans13_ @Saints pic.twitter.com/ikQOddKCUt — Blue Oak BBQ (@BlueOakBBQ) September 19, 2022 Evans probably didn’t expect so many consequences from a moment of having his teammates back, but he and Brady at least seem appreciative of each other through it all.Buccaneers teammates Mike Evans and Tom Brady are appreciative of each otherEvans initially started the fight with Lattimore because of a comment made about Brady. It’s that time of year again: the final days of summer are upon us, and retailers are heading full force into fall. Coffee shops are announcing their new fall flavors (bless Peet’s coffee for bringing us a vegan PSL with coconut whipped cream), and things are starting to get spooky in stores thanks to the early arrival of Halloween decorations. While we are more than ready to embrace cozy sweaters paired with a cup of warm, mulled apple cider, we’re also not ready to say “goodbye” to barbecues and beaches just yet. Thankfully, this weekend is Labor Day weekend, so it’s time to get everything you need ready for the season’s last big barbecue. The new cookbook by pitmaster Kevin Bludso isn’t just a collection of 90 recipes, it’s a compelling memoir. “I was born and raised in Compton, California, with a police officer father and a Black Panther-supporter mother,” it begins. “Every summer to stay out of trouble, I went to Corsicana, Texas, to work at my granny’s illegal, bootleg BBQ stand.” He was 8 years old when he started those trips to Texas, but eventually he was the only one granny trusted to smoke brisket. Granny — Willie Mae Fields — was actually his father’s aunt. His grandmother worked at the Bluebird Café in Dallas, where she was shot by a White woman who mistakenly thought she was having an affair with her husband. The aftermath of that tragedy is why the family moved to Compton. Fast-forward to Bludso’s life today: The man behind Hollywood’s Bludso’s BBQ has risen to celebrity chef status as a judge on Netflix’s “The American Barbecue Showdown,” a recurring guest on “Bar Rescue,” and he’s made appearances on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” And his “Bludso’s BBQ Cookbook: A Family Affair...
When it comes to barbecue, San Jose is no slouch — the Smoking Pig, Blue Rock and Sam’s BBQ come to mind immediately — but the No. 3 barbecue city in the country? That seems like a bit of a stretch, and is sure to get places like Kansas City, Dallas and Memphis fired up. The dubious distinction comes courtesy of Clever Real Estate, which used data to cook up the list of the top 50 barbecue metros, weighing factors like the number of BBQ restaurants per capita, Yelp reviews, Google searches and cost. San Antonio topped the list, with Austin coming in second. And then comes San Jose, landing a prime spot that might make people wonder if the tech wizards of Silicon Valley somehow hacked the system. (In Northern California, Sacramento ranked 23rd and San Francisco 30th.) So why did San Jose get such a highly ranking? Clever gives a shout out to the slow-cooked meats of Smoking Pig BBQ but also says San Jose has a surprising number of barbecue joints, with 5.6 restaurants per 100,000 people....

Discovering that your pricey jar of barbecue rub is basically colored salt is disappointing — and problematic. Add too little to your food and the flavor is bland; add too much and you’ve created a salt bomb. The salt level in so many blends made for chicken, fish and meats is simply too high. Enter a new category of seasoning blends — salt-free rubs that deliver a blast of complex flavors without relying on salt. Flavor without salt allows the cook to control the salt level of the finished product — and it’s perfect for those on salt-restrictive diets. Companies both large and small have introduced salt-free rubs, including Lawry’s and Walnut Creek-based Kinder’s. Dak’s, an Alabama company, sells nearly two dozen kinds of salt-free seasonings. As plentiful as salt-free offerings have become, they are difficult to find in stores. The best place to get them is online. To get a sense of what these salt-free offerings are about, we gathered nine brands and put them to work on a range of proteins. Sadly, while most salt-free rubs are harmless...

After all, “too skinny of a barbecue man, he can’t sell much stuff,” he joked back in April. The meats found in barbecue, heavy in protein and fat, allow the food to pass muster. Using the right seasonings, excluding the sugars, keeps it keto. Instead of putting brown sugar on...
