WATFORD have sacked Rob Edwards and replaced him with Slaven Bilic, the club’s 17th appointment under owner Gino Pozzo. And for the first time since the Pozzo family took charge in 2012, fans have been surprised to witness a change in head coach. 7Slaven Bilic is the 17th head coach Watford have hired since the Pozzo family bought the clubCredit: Mark Robinson - Times Newspapers Ltd This is because, on June 13, chairman Scott Duxbury was crystal clear about the new direction owner Gino Pozzo wanted to take the club in and the job Edwards was expected to do. In an interview with the Watford Observer, he said: “In the last ten years we have delivered success. “But we need more. It needs to be something much more tangible than just success on the field. “We need a club that is connected to the fans and the community. We think Rob is the perfect person to deliver that. “Gino Pozzo wants the club to be successful and playing sustained Premier League football. "That’s always been his only ambition for Watford....
Phoenix Suns players and coaches expressed disbelief at Monday's media day over the NBA investigation findings that led to owner Robert Sarver's one-year suspension and $10 million fine, with head coach Monty Williams admitting that he was 'disgusted' over the claims.  Sarver announced his plan to sell the club and the WNBA's Mercury last week after the NBA probe found he had used the N-word around employees, bullied workers, and committed several other misogynistic acts. In one instance, Sarver is accused of asking a pregnant employee if she would be able to perform her duties after giving birth. 'I was in disbelief,' Williams said Monday. 'When you see the bullet points and then when you go through it, you start to think about how these things impact the people.' 'I would say just a state of shock,' general manager James Jones said. 'You don't want that around the organization. You don't want that to be the issue.' Veteran Suns guard Chris Paul said he was concerned about what Suns employees have been dealing with. 'It was tough, just like anybody,...
(CNN)When Italy first went into a coronavirus lockdown last year, Khabane Lame had just lost his job at a factory near the northern city of Turin. He spent his days holed up at his parents' home in Chivasso with his three siblings, looking for other jobs. One day, he downloaded TikTok and started tinkering with it in his bedroom, posting videos of himself under the name Khaby Lame. And gradually, a surprising career was born. At first, like a lot of TikTokers, he created clips of himself dancing, watching video games or doing comedy stunts. Then, earlier this year, he began making fun of the life-hack videos that flood social media platforms -- reacting to them with a wordless shrug or a look of exasperation -- and he struck a chord. Now Lame (prounouced Lah-MAY) is the most popular man on TikTok, with 114 million followers. The only other person ahead of him is dancer Charli D'Amelio, a California teen who posts playful videos, often with her older sister Dixie. And Lame, 21, does it all without saying a word. "When we watched the video, we did not observe that behavior from him," BYU Police Lt. George Besendorfer told the newspaper. BYU associate athletic director Jon McBride confirmed that university officials came to the same conclusion. He said:Various BYU Athletics employees have been reviewing video from BYUtv and other cameras in the facility that the volleyball team has access to for film review. This has been ongoing since right after the match on Friday night. The person who was banned was the person identified by Duke as using racial slurs. However, we have been unable to find any evidence of that person using slurs in the match. In fact, no evidence has surfaced proving anyone shouted racial slurs. Instead, students who attended the game attest they never heard any slurs. The Cougar Chronicle, a BYU student-run newspaper, cited multiple students on the record who were in the student section at the game and never heard any slurs. Indeed, Besendorfer has confirmed that no student who sat in the section where the slurs allegedly came from — nor anyone who attended...

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz speaks on the economy during a news conference at the U.S. Capitol on May 4, 2022 in Washington, D.C. Obliterating Roe v. Wade apparently wasn't enough. Sen. Ted Cruz said during his Verdict+ podcast on Saturday that he believes the Supreme Court was “clearly wrong“ in deciding to support same-sex marriage in the 5-to-4 decision on Obergefell v. Hodges. The landmark decision made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories in keeping with the equal protection and due process clauses of the 14th Amendment. But Cruz wants to follow the logic of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who wrote in his concurrent opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that “because any substantive due process decision is ‘demonstrably erroneous,’” we have “a duty to ‘correct the error.’”  Cruz said: “Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nation’s history. Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states. We saw states before Obergefell — some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships. There were different standards that the states...

Subscribe to our print magazine.“Vaccine” is not a four-letter word, but don’t expect it to escape Trump’s lips anytime soon. The former president tiptoed around the word last night at an Alaska rally in support of right-wing Republican candidates, including former Gov. Sarah Palin, who is running for the state’s lone House seat. Trump attempted to take credit for the speed of vaccine development while taking a not-so-subtle dig at his base. “We did so much in terms of therapeutics and a word that I’m not allowed to mention,” he said, “But I’m still proud of that word, because we did that in nine months, and it was supposed to take five years to 12 years. HEARING your baby's first word will always be exciting, no matter what ends up coming out of their mouth. But have you ever wondered why they said what they did? MANY years ago I released a top-selling workout video. It was in 2001, a year after my divorce, and I’d slimmed to a size 10 thanks to the heartbreak diet. I was frenziedly trying to create a new me, exercising like mad and hardly eating a thing. 5Vanessa at Breast Cancer Care fashion show in London in 2009Credit: Rex 5Vanessa at film screening in London in March this yearCredit: Getty It was just one of many times I’d lost a considerable amount of weight and I was always honest about how I did it. But these days most celebrities will claim that they don’t diet at all. It has become a dirty word, replaced with “healthy eating” instead, which really isn’t the same thing. Anyone who is really slim past a certain age almost certainly eats very little — but it’s become incredibly unfashionable to say so. There’s more dishonesty about dieting than ever before, with people who diet ferociously pretending they don’t and professing that their slender figures are all natural. Multiple woke academics now claim the word 'obesity' is racist and should be dropped in favor of 'people with larger bodies.'   The University of Illinois Chicago's school of public health published a health brief titled: 'Addressing weight stigma and fatphobia in public health' that explored 'the association between racism, weight, and health.' According to Amanda Montgomery RD, public health's focus on preventing obesity has brought in an increase of negative attitudes towards 'people with larger bodies' - her preferred alternative term - and is currently one of the only socially acceptable forms of discrimination.  The brief claims that public health approaches related to obesity can be harmful because of the focus on one outcome - weight loss- and because it tends to ignore the root cause of the issue.  Academics say many of the causes are rooted in discrimination borne of settlers driving Native Americans off their land, then forcing black and Hispanic workers to farm that land for low pay.   Amanda Montgomery RD wrote that public health's focus on preventing obesity has brought an increase of negative attitudes at people with larger...

Vice President Kamala Harris tossed up another word salad following a meeting with the prime minister of Jamaica Wednesday, drawing a new round of ridicule from her critics. The White House sit-down with the island nation's leader, Andrew Holness, commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries and marked the first time in nearly 30 years that a Jamaican leader has visited the White House. Harris, whose father is Jamaican, said she and Holness discussed COVID-19, climate change, and the war in Ukraine. KAMALA HARRIS STUCK IN THE 'PASSAGE OF TIME' "For Jamaica, one of the issues that has been presented as an issue that is economic in the way its impact has been the pandemic ... we will assist Jamaica in COVID recovery by assisting in terms of the recovery efforts in Jamaica that have been essential," she told reporters after the meeting. Former President Donald Trump told thousands of supporters in Commerce, Georgia, on Saturday night that if Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson cannot define “woman,” she cannot interpret the plain language of the Constitution. Trump was reacting to Judge Jackson’s bizarre refusal to define the word “woman” in her confirmation hearings last week at the Senate Judiciary Committee to define the word “woman” when asked to do so by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). Though Judge Jackson claimed to be something of an originalist, who looks to the plain meaning of words in the Constitution and the law before making her own interpretation, her refusal to define a common word suggested otherwise. Trump told his audience: The left has become so extreme that we now have a justice being nominated to the Supreme Court who testified, under oath, that she cannot say what a woman is. If she can’t even say what a woman is, how on earth can she be trusted to say what the Constitution is? [Applause] And a party that’s unwilling to admit that men and women are...
Donald Trump has lashed out at Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, criticizing her refusal to define the word 'woman' during Senate confirmation hearings. Speaking at a rally in Commerce, Georgia on Saturday night, Trump seized on the hot-button issue, which has generated controversy in the wake of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas' NCAA title.  'The left has become so extreme that we now have a justice being nominated to the Supreme Court who testified under oath that she could not say what a woman is,' said Trump.  'If she can't even say what a woman is. How on earth can she be trusted to say what the Constitution is?'  Donald Trump has lashed out at Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, criticizing her refusal to define the word 'woman' during Senate confirmation hearings 'A party that's unwilling to admit that men and women are biologically different, in defiance of all scientific and human history, is a party that should not be anywhere near the levers of power,' added Trump.  During Senate hearings this week, Jackson repeatedly refused to define 'woman' under...
Kate McKinnon seems to have started something with her “Don’t Say Gay” appearance on SNL’s “Weekend Update.” Speaking about the cruel, recently passed Florida bill that would ban discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten through third grade, the comedian suggested Saturday that if kids can’t say the word “gay,” they “might as well sing it.” (Cue McKinnon chanting the word “gay” to the tune of the guitar riff that opens Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.”) The bill passed the Senate on Tuesday, and Governor Ron DeSantis is widely expected to sign it into law. But celebrities are still fighting the good fight—by which I mean, many of them have chosen to tweet the word “gay” over and over again. As far as performative celebrity “activism” goes, the “gay gay gay” tweets are not on the same level as, say, the tone-deaf “Imagine” video that will forever haunt Gal Gadot. The tweets are clearly well intentioned and pretty innocuous. At the same time, however, it’s hard not to wonder what they’re really for. As much...
White nationalist provocateur Nick Fuentes said on his podcast this week that was posted to former President Donald Trump's "Truth Social" propaganda platform that Trump is the right-wing’s “hero” because of his racist comments and flagrant xenophobia. Fuentes represents the extreme fringe – albeit a loud and well-monied one – of the American conservative movement. His ilk is responsible for harmful legislation like Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill as well as efforts to outlaw abortion. And while his branded message is indeed dangerous and exceptionally toxic, it would be unwise to pretend that he and his followers do not exist. That he was approved to post content to Trump's app is even more disturbing. Fuentes has also been subpoenaed by the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol because he has called for the assassination of lawmakers. The Holocaust-denying 23-year-old Fuentes – whom the Department of Justice has labeled a "white supremacist" – was incensed about non-white individuals coming into the United States for a better life, which Trump infamously railed against during...

Federal prosecutors have released photos of a member of the Oath Keepers wheeling in bins of weapons, ammunitions and supplies to a hotel just outside of Washington, DC, the day before the January 6 riot.  Edward Vallejo, 63, helped coordinate the far-right militia's 'quick reaction forces,' which was ready to show up to the Capitol fully armed at a moment's notice if directed to do so by their colleagues on the ground, prosecutors say. Vallejo is one of 11 people who were arrested and charged with seditious conspiracy last week for their role in the riot.  He and others waited at the Comfort Inn Ballston in Arlington, Virginia - about seven miles from the Capitol - with 'weapons, ammunition, and essential supplies to last 30 days,' prosecutors said in a Tuesday filing in US District Court in Arizona as they urged a judge to keep Vallejo detained before trial. Photo by Eric Hersman via Flickr. Using the term “Latinx” isn’t just ineffective, but is actively offending a significant portion of Hispanic voters, a poll by a Democratic firm has found, with only 2 percent of respondents saying they use the word to identify themselves and 30 percent saying they would be less likely to support a politician or political organization that used it. When asked which of the following terms they use to describe their own ethnic background, 68 percent said Hispanic, 21 percent said Latina/Latino, 8 percent said another answer, 2 percent said Latinx, and 1 percent did not answer. The poll of 800 “registered voters of Hispanic/Latina(o) origin residing in the United States” was conducted by Bendixen & Amandi International from Nov. 17 to 21. The margin of error is +/- 3.46 percent. The controversy arises, as Politico’s Marc Caputo and Sabrina Rodriguez noted, from how the Spanish language assigns masculine or feminine gender to nouns and a clash with progressive efforts to address people in a gender-neutral way. The plural word “Latinos” uses the masculine form,...

The courtiers have told the Times UK that the U.S.-born Meghan, who gained the title by marrying Prince Harry,  is “using her title out of context” for political lobbying in the United States. Buckingham Palace continues to insist that the royal family should have “no say in American politics,” the Times reported. Constitutionally, members of the royal family are obliged to be “above politics” and to stay  politically neutral, the Times added. A senior palace aide told the Times: “As a member of the royal family, if you use the title, it means you steer clear of those kinds of things. Otherwise, you’re using the title out of context.” Another courtier said that Meghan’s use of the tile is “outrageous.” The former TV actress invoked the title when cold-calling Republican senators Susan Collins and Shelley...

Three Texas women who were seen in a video allegedly attacking a NYC restaurant hostess after their vaccination cards were questioned said they were racially profiled and called the n-word.  The trio, who are black, are now claiming their unnamed 24 year-old hostess, who is Asian, was actually the aggressor, and have called for her to be fired.     They spoke out two days after Thursday's incident at popular Upper West Side restaurant Carmines. Restaurant staff jumped in to defend their coworker, who was left with viruses and scratches, with footage of the brawl making headlines across the United States.  Since then, lawyers for the women and the restaurant exchanged words, and Hawk Newsome, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter NY, said they plan to hold a protest on Monday.  Texas civil rights lawyer Justin Moore told Daily News, 'This hostess clearly has some anger management issues and unfortunately her aggression and her violence led to something that three Black women are being punished for.' A lawyer for Carmine's denied the Texas women's accusation. 'Any claim that they were racially profiled is...

'Everyone is in favour of free speech,' said Winston Churchill, 'but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage.' He could have been talking about Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, two people who think they have both the right to drop endless incendiary unsubstantiated bombshells about their family AND the right to censor and silence anyone who dares to disbelieve or challenge them. Back in March, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent two hours spray-gunning the Royals to Oprah Winfrey in an explosive interview on prime-time US television. On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) blasted President Joe Biden’s speech on Afghanistan as “disconnected from reality” and criticized Biden for acting as if the withdrawal is going well when Americans are “stuck behind Taliban lines who have no clear instructions on how to get to the airport and get out of the country. Joe Biden didn’t say a word to them.” Cotton said, “That speech demonstrated a president who is dangerously disconnected from reality. You can put aside the question of the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan and just focus on how that decision has been executed over the last couple weeks, Neil. The president seemed totally oblivious to the conditions on the ground. He acted as if this withdrawal is going in an orderly fashion, when, in fact, we have hundreds, if not thousands of Americans stuck behind Taliban lines who have no clear instructions on how to get to the airport and get out of the country. Joe Biden didn’t say a word to them.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wants the world to know who supports him so he's selling bright red tee shirts emblazoned with the word "moron." Last month Speaker Nancy Pelosi called McCarthy a "moron" for opposing the Capitol physician's mask mandate. It's only been a few weeks but McCarthy is responding by launching a fundraising campaign, sacrificing the self-esteem of whatever devotees he might have, hoping they'll show the world who they are. "Nancy Pelosi JUST CALLED Kevin McCarthy a "moron" for opposing the mask mandate. You're a top patriot and HE NEEDS YOU to get this t-shirt to oppose HER & the Radical Socialist Left," the copy on the GOP fundraising site WinRed reads. That came after new video footage of the incident had raised questions about whether the N-word was actually said. Videos appear to show the fan waving his arm, attempting to get Dinger’s attention in a nearby seat. A Denver news reporter who spoke to the Rockies organization said the team interviewed the fan about the incident. “The Rockies tell me last night’s incident was a fan shouting to get the attention of the Rockies mascot Dinger, not a racial slur,” Steve Staeger, a reporter for Denver’s 9News tweeted Monday. “The Rockies have spoken to the fan who confirms this is the case. Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said on ABC’s “This Week” that officials should avoid using the word “mandate” when discussing requiring the COVID-19 vaccine. Emanuel said, “I would not use the word mandate.” He continued, “Call it a requirement, a requirement to participate in the rest of the economy that is opening up.” Emanuel added, “Look, the first 60% you can do in masks. The last 40% you have to do strategically. I would not use the word mandate. We’re requiring this for X access to the economy. You have to think about people in that way. I think that whether you take public employees — as I said, health care workers should lead. They have to get vaccinated. You get federal dollars for research at universities. Students and employees have to be. You start setting requirements for the rest of society. The other piece I would add, it’s part of your national pledge. The one thing he said, and you can see happening, as the variant gets more dangerous, the population it affects starts to go down the age...
