A Make-A-Wish recipient was actually the first to break the news that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his thumb. The Green Bay Packers are 4-7 on the year, as the offense hasn’t necessarily been playing up to its potential. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been playing his usual football this season compared to his NFL MVP-winning campaigns the past two years. Some credited it to a right thumb injury suffered back in the team’s Week 5 game against the New York Giants. From there, the debate began about whether the thumb was actually broken, which Rodgers wouldn’t confirm or deny on “The Pat McAfee Show” this Tuesday. On Wednesday, Rodgers confirmed that his right thumb is broken and that he’s been playing through it since Week 5 when speaking with the media. It is important to note that this confirmed what Branden, also known as “Big B” of the Underage Packers Podcast, tweeted out on Nov. 18 following his visit with the team. Big B said that he asked Rodgers how his finger was feeling, to which the quarterback...
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that he has been playing with a broken thumb since Week 5. The Green Bay Packers‘ season has not gone the way they had expected, as they sit 4-7 on the year. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t put up the MVP numbers like he did in the past two years, as his wide receivers corps is not as stacked like it used to be with Davante Adams. However, he has been playing half of the season with a thumb injury. During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers did not confirm or deny that he had suffered a broken thumb when asked by the sports media star and former NFL punter. On Wednesday, Rodgers revealed during a media scrum that he has been dealing with a broken thumb since Week 5 when the team played the New York Giants in London. The clip below comes courtesy of The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. Aaron Rodgers confirmed today his right thumb has been broken since Week 5, when the injury happened on the last play...
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a broken left thumb and the Philadelphia Phillies haven’t yet announced a timeline for his return. Former No. 1 overall draft pick Mickey Moniak was recalled from Triple-A to take Harper’s roster spot. Harper’s thumb was broken when he was hit by a 97 mph pitch from San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell on Saturday night. Harper will see a specialist after the team returns to Philadelphia. Beyond that there is no timetable for his return, manager Rob Thomson said before the Phillies and Padres played the finale of a four-game series. The 29-year-old Harper is hitting .318 with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs and a .985 OPS, and has helped the Phillies recently surge back into playoff contention. Harper was not available Sunday but said after Saturday night’s game that it’s “just a bummer. I am really bummed out.” Harper checked his swing as the pitch rode inside and high toward his shoulder before hitting him on the outside of the...

Larry Nance Jr. exited the Cleveland Cavaliers’ game against the Washington Wizards after suffering a thumb injury, further hurting the Cavs’ playoff chances. In the fourth quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ game Sunday night, forward Larry Nance Jr. fractured his thumb while fighting for a loose ball, leaving the game with about five minutes to go. After X-rays confirmed the broken thumb, Nance will likely sit out for the rest of the season and leave the Cavs shorthanded (no pun intended). Nance’s thumb injury is just one of many setbacks that have crippled his performance for the Cavaliers this season. He recently returned from a mystery non-COVID related illness that caused him to lose 20 pounds and ruled him out for seven consecutive games in early April. Nance also missed six weeks in February due to a fractured left hand and a few games in January from a sprained wrist. Somebody get his man some bubble wrap — he just can’t seem to stop hurting himself. In total, Nance has played in only 35 games this season and averages 9.3 points,...

Habit forming: Here are some of the quirks that make these readers unique The Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the Super Bowl -- and so is the controversy over the teams name Blues Robert Thomas out four to six weeks with broken thumb St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube told reporters on Sunday that the team will be without center Robert Thomas for an extended period of time, according to The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford. The 21-year-old is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a broken thumb during Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes. © Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports Robert Thomas will be missing some time due to a broken thumb. “Well, I mean, somebody else is going to get in that position and do a job for us,” said Berube. “That’s the way we’ve got to look at it. We’ve got players. We’re a deep team and that’s a good thing. Other guys get an opportunity to get in there now and play.” Thomas was forced to leave Saturday’s game in the first period after...
The Grizzlies may end up looking back on their 2019-20 season as one big what-if. Memphis not only wasted a 3.5-game lead over Portland at the start of the NBA hiatus — it ended up losing to the Trail Blazers in Saturday’s play-in game after going 2-6 in the NBA bubble — but also had to finish the season with rookie phenom Ja Morant playing injured. Morant, following Saturday’s season-ending loss to Portland, revealed he had been playing with a fractured thumb “since the (Toronto) Raptors game.” Had Memphis won on Saturday, it would have played again on Sunday to determine who would earn the No. 8 seed and face the Lakers in the Western Conference playoffs. MORE: NBA playoff bracket 2020: Updated standings, seeds & Round 1 projections in Orlando The season may have ended in disappointment for the Grizzlies and Morant, but he performed admirably in the losing effort, shooting 13 of 28 (3 of 6 from beyond the arc) for a season-high 35 points. That, of course, is made all the more impressive considering he wore a...
Morant is a beast in more ways than one. Even though the Memphis Grizzlies have struggled in the NBA bubble, rookie Ja Morant has been playing like a seasoned pro. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Morant revealed that he has been playing with a broken thumb on his shooting hand after the Grizzlies lost the Western Conference play-in game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Morant told reporters in the post-game press conference that he fractured his thumb in the Grizzlies’ game against the Toronto Raptors. That means he has played the last four games with the injury, and he hasn’t shown a single sign of slowing down. He’s also been a star over the other games since the fracture occurred. He had a double-double against the Boston Celtics with 26 points and 12 assists, and posted the second triple-double of...
Credit: Mike Stobe/Getty Images The Lakers backcourt got a little thinner Sunday night, as Rajon Rondo suffered a broken thumb. With Avery Bradley’s decision to opt-out of the season resumption in Orlando, the Los Angeles Lakers’ backcourt was already thin. During practice on Sunday night, according to multiple reports, Rajon Rondo suffered a broken right thumb and will be out 6-8 weeks. Rondo is averaging 7.1 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game over 48 games (three starts) this season, over a career-low 20.5 minutes per contest. He also missed time for the Lakers last season after undergoing separate surgeries to fix a fractured third metacarpal in his right hand and a torn ligament in his right ring finger. Since the NBA transaction window closed on June 30, the Lakers can’t sign anyone to replace Rondo. At this point, replacement players can only take the place of someone who opts out, as the Lakers did by signing Smith to replace Bradley, or tests positive for COVID-19. Who steps up for the Lakers with Rajon Rondo out? With Rondo out,...
Rajon Rondo may get a reprieve from staying at the “Motel 6”, but this isn’t a good reason for leaving. The Lakers point guard suffered a fracture to his right thumb in practice on Sunday night and is expected to return to full basketball activities in 6 to 8 weeks, the team announced. Rondo will have surgery later this week to repair the fracture. The injury would likely keep Rondo — who compared his Orlando bubble hotel room to a “Motel 6” upon arrival in an Instagram post last week — out until the middle of the NBA’s rescheduled postseason in late August and early September should the Lakers get that far. The second round is slated to start Aug. 31. Rondo, 34, was averaging 7.1 points, five assists and three rebounds per game when the NBA season was halted in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s unclear if he plans to stay with the team in Orlando as he heals up. LeBron James’ Lakers, one of the favorites to win the NBA title, are already without starting...
The Lakers will be without backup point guard Rajon Rondo for their eight seeding games and part of the NBA playoffs in the Florida bubble after Rondo suffered a right thumb fracture in practice Sunday. Rondo will miss six to eight weeks with the injury, the Lakers acknowledged. MORE: Injury updates on top players Los Angeles’ backcourt was already minus Avery Bradley, who opted out of playing in the league’s restart over concerns about the coronavirus affecting his family. Now it will be without another veteran in Rondo, who was averaging 5.0 assists to go with 7.1 points in 20.5 minutes per game as a main reserve. Rondo’s injury and Bradley’s absence should open up more opportunities for Alex Caruso, who has become a fan favorite as an LA bench player. Quinn Cook could also be given more ballhandling responsibilities behind Caruso and LeBron James. The Lakers enter the league’s restart with the best record in the Western Conference (49-14) and a 5 1/2-game lead over the second-place Clippers.
