The family of the slain Uvalde teacher whose husband died of heart attack days later and the father of a 10-year-old boy also killed in the deadly shooting joined the $100 million lawsuit against the gunman's estate. Injury attorney Thomas Henry, who filed a lawsuit against 18-year-old shooter Salvador Ramos's estate on behalf of four parents whose children were injured in the massacre, said two more families have signed onto the suit as of Thursday.  The new plaintiffs include the families of Robb Elementary School teacher Irma Garcia, 48 - whose husband, Joe, died of a heart attack days later - and Jose Flores Jr., 10, both of whom were among the 21 people killed by Ramos before he died in a shootout with police.  Henry said the lawsuit will also focus on holding accountable the school system, law enforcement, social media, and gun and ammunition manufacturers that enabled the shooting to occur.  'We're sending a message to our country, this cannot go on anymore,' Henry said. 'There will be consequences. 'This case is going be about the flaws and errors that...

He kidnapped Shasta and her then-nine-year-old brother, Dylan, and held them captive for nearly two months while he sexually and physically assaulted them, before ultimately shooting and killing Dylan in front of Shasta. AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — A motorcyclist who was shot and killed by a deputy in South Carolina who thought he had a gun after a long chase turned out to be unarmed, authorities said. The shooting early Saturday remains under investigation by state agents and Aiken County deputy Christopher Owens is on paid leave, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Arthur Page II, 58, led police on a 40-mile (65-kilometer) chase after speeding away from a deputy trying to pull him over for a traffic violation the sheriff’s office did not specify, investigators said. While on Interstate 20, Page slowed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and veered on to the grass shoulder, crashing the bike, deputies said. As Page tried to run away from the crash, deputy Owens told investigators he thought he saw him holding a gun, but as crews tried to save Page’s life, no weapon was found, the sheriff’s office said in its statement Page was shot at least once in the body, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said. No law enforcement officers were injured, authorities...

LONDON (AP) — Hundreds of mourners turned out Tuesday in Ireland for the funeral Mass of a 23-year-old elementary school teacher whose slaying has reignited debate about how to tackle violence against women. Police said Tuesday they arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder in the case of Ashling Murphy, a musician and teacher whose body was found on the banks of a canal near the town of Tullamore in central Ireland on Jan. 12. The killing has touched a nerve with many women in Ireland and beyond, because media reports suggested that Murphy was targeted when she was out jogging in the afternoon. Vigils have been held across the European Union country — as well as in cities like London and New York — calling for more to be done to combat violence against women. Bishop Tom Deenihan told mourners that the killing was a “depraved act of violence” that united the country in grief. Irish Premier Micheal Martin and President Michael Higgins were among the huge crowds who gathered for the funeral in...
