FANS will notice a changing of the guard among match officials in the early months of the new Premier League season. Experienced quartet Mike Dean, Martin Atkinson, Jon Moss and Kevin Friend will no longer be on the pitch while Tom Bramall is the sole new referee in the Prem. 1Ex-referee says it's sink or swim for new Premier League officialsCredit: PA And with the imminent departure of refs' boss Mike Riley, a shake-up will continue to take place ahead of Howard Webb's expected arrival in the winter. Promoted Bramall is young at 32 but is viewed as a promising prospect following his rapid rise through the leagues. My own refereeing journey was similar to Sheffield-based Bramall's pathway as we both spent two seasons in the National League before moving up to the Football League. After four seasons in the EFL where I've heard Championship managers rated him highly, Bramall is in the big time as the fifth ref to be promoted by the PGMOL in the last year. Republican Sen. Susan Collins said the Democrats' surprise deal to revive parts of President Joe Biden's Build Back Better plan may have doomed Republican support to codify gay marriage.  'I think the timing could not have been worse and it came totally out of the blue,' Collins told HuffPost, referring to Wednesday's announcement that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin had agreed on a $430 billion reconciliaiton bill, which included a number of healthcare, climate and tax provisions.  The announcement came in the hours after the Senate passed the CHIPS Act, which Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had threatened to derail if Democrats tried to bring Build Back Better back.  Republican Sen. The House voted 243-187 to pass a $280 billion bill Thursday to fund domestic semiconductor chip manufacturing and boost competitiveness with China. Twenty-four Republicans joined all 218 Democrats in voting to advance the bill, even though House GOP leadership whipped against it in frustration after Sen. Joe Manchin announced a deal on a separate party-line reconciliation bill. One Democrat, Rep. Sarah Jacobs of California, voted present. Her family founded semiconductor company Qualcomm.  Jacobs' communications director Lauren McIlvaine called the CHIPS bill a 'big win' for the country, but told DailyMail.com the congresswoman voted 'present' to avoid a conflict of interest after consulting with the Ethics Committee.   The vote came one day after the Senate in a 64-33 vote advanced the bill, known as CHIPS-plus, that has been in the works for over a year. Senate Republicans had previously said they would not allow the CHIPS bill to pass as long as Democrats were working on a reconciliation package. Manchin did not announce the reconciliation deal until after the Senate had passed the CHIPS bill. House Republicans had not planned to whip against the...

DRAIN FLIES are annoying creatures that clog up your sink or shower and make the place less clean, just like any other insect. This is how you get rid of the annoying insects which take over your washing spaces. What are drain flies? Drain flies can also be called moth flies, sewer flies or filter flies. They are grey and taupe in colour and although their name suggests otherwise, they actually do not fly. They hop from one surface to another and they can live up to three weeks. New eggs cans hatch in 48 hours, and that is why you have to act fast if you spot some, so that you do not give them the opportunity to increase in their numbers. 1Drain flies are attracted to the slimy firm forming on sewers and drains inside your sink or showerCredit: Getty What causes drain flies? Dirty water and the slimy film that builds in drains and sewers attracts them. Such places are their favourite breeding spots and so be careful that when you spot one, you try to get...

If the Milwaukee Brewers plan on making the postseason, they better hope that this player in particular breaks out of their recent slump. The Milwaukee Brewers have made it to the postseason in each of the past four seasons, and this year could be a difficult one for them. They hold a 50-41 record as of July 16 and are just 1.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central. For the Brewers to make it to fall baseball for the fifth year in a row, they better hope that one player in particular breaks out of their mini-slump. That player is none other than reliever Josh Hader. If Josh Hader’s struggles continues, it could hurt Brewers postseason chancesThroughout his tenure with the Brewers, Hader has proven to be one of the game’s top closers. In three starts against the White Sox this season, Bundy is 2-0 with four runs allowed in 15 1/3 innings. Jhoan Duran pitched two scoreless innings for his sixth save. Lynn (1-3) struggled again. NY Times: Will the Abortion Debate Keep Moderate Women in the Democrats’ Camp? From the suburbs of Philadelphia and Grand Rapids to more conservative territory in Nebraska, there are early signs that some voters who disapprove of Mr. Biden also increasingly believe that Republicans have gone too far to the right on a range of issues, particularly abortion. It’s a dynamic with the potential to shape statewide races and some House contests, and one that crystallizes a central tension of the midterm elections as Democrats test whether efforts to define today’s Republicans as extremist can mitigate the political headwinds they confront. x "...knowledge is preferable to ignorance. SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It’s been one week since a boat erupted in flames near the I-80 bridge over the Sacramento River, and while multiple agencies work to assess what happens next, it’s shining a light on how to police what’s in the river and along it. Joe Scarborough believes that the Select Committee Hearings on January 6th are “starting to sink in” with Republicans and Trump’s base of support. BANGKOK (AP) — Shares sank in Asia on Monday after a report that U.S. inflation worsened last month sent stocks reeling on Wall Street. Major regional markets dropped more than 2% in early trading Monday, while U.S. futures slipped more than 1%. On Friday, the S&P 500 sank 2.9%, locking in its ninth losing week in the last 10. NEW YORK (AP) — Fans outside New York’s Beacon Theater were cheering for Taylor Swift before she arrived, belting her songs before she stepped onstage. That energy remained throughout her stop at the 21st Tribeca Festival on Saturday, where Swift discussed transitioning into the director’s chair, the nuances of visual storytelling and the possibility of future film projects with Mike Mills, writer and director of “C’mon, C’mon” and “20th Century Women,” before surprising fans with special guests and an acoustic performance. It wasn’t Swift’s first time on a film festival stage — her Netflix documentary “Miss Americana” premiered at Sundance in 2020 — but it was her first time as a director. And as Swift and Mills compared and dissected their processes, it was clear that was an honor she didn’t take lightly. “I always thought that it was something that other people did,” Swift said of directing. Being on sets and making music videos, “the lists of things I was absorbing became so long that eventually, I thought, I really want to do this.” Her 13-minute...

When Paddington Bear settled his soulful eyes on the queen over the tea table and said (voiced with perfect pitch by Ben Whishaw), “Happy Jubilee, Ma’am, and thank you…for everything,” there was an unmistakable sense of valediction. Firefighting crews saved an abandoned creature found laying in the ashes of a massive wildfire in New Mexico. A Montana-based firefighter named Nate Sink said he noticed an elk calf on the ground of the charred forest during his patrol to extinguish hot spots, the Associated Press (AP) reported Wednesday. “The whole area is just surrounded in a thick layer of ash and burned trees. I didn’t think it was alive,” recalled Sink, who was helping contain a wildfire that recently burned through 486 square miles, leaving destruction in its wake. Although Sink looked for signs of the calf’s mother, he had no luck. The animal, later named Cinder, was transported for treatment at a ranch and is currently recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Espanola. In a social media post on Monday, the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak Fire shared a picture of the calf cuddled in the arms of one of its rescuers: https://www.facebook.com/CalfCanyonHermitsPeak/posts/pfbid02qEUk9KBb8uJL4DBk3ooqV3WPaVezUnnYDr6p9bFpDJMo5DX8dsayVg2PBbbHBJe2l Another photo showed the animal laying motionless on the ground with its eyes half closed. “I am so glad little Cinder has been...
Six years after Amber Heard publicly named Johnny Depp as a domestic abuser, lawyers for the actor called her a habitual liar who ruined their client’s life with fabricated, career-destroying claims of physical violence. “Exactly six years ago today, on May 27, 2016, Ms. Heard walked into court and filed a false report of domestic abuse against her husband of 15 months, Johnny Depp,” lawyer Camille Vasquez told jurors in the defamation trial between the ex-couple on Friday. “The scene was a setup,” Vasquez said, recounting the day that Heard sought a restraining order against Depp in Los Angeles. “She tipped off the paparazzi so they would be waiting. They knew exactly where she would pause, which side of her face to photograph. And the photos captured what she wanted them to see: the image of a battered woman.” After seven weeks, dozens of witnesses, and hundreds of spectators lining up daily in hopes of getting a seat in the courtroom, lawyers for the divorced couple finally presented their closing arguments on Friday. While the 2016 breakup was the initial...

Well, one cleaning expert has revealed her hack to prevent her sink from getting clogged – but sadly, people weren't into it. 3A woman shared her solution to avoid her sink from getting cloggedCredit: TikTok 3The strainer only costs $13Credit: TikTok Taking to social media, a woman who simply goes by Heather shared that she had purchased a sink strainer for just $13. The strainer base is set up in the corner of the sink, where it can remain out of the way without clogging the sink as you do the dishes. Every time you use it, you'll wrap a thin net around it where you'll drop your leftovers as you go. This prevents water from collecting inside the netting and food from slipping through the strainer. CONCORD — The largest housing project in the East Bay’s recent history could hit another snag as negotiations between the city and its master developer appear to be on a collision path. Concord First Partners, a development team linked to multi-generational building companies owned by the Seeno family, wants to acquire property rights at the former Concord Naval Weapons Station site before it commits to any details of the project. That way, if the city’s vision for listing a quarter of the 13,000 planned homes at affordable prices doesn’t meet Concord First Partners’ profit goals, the development team can drop the project and be reimbursed for planning-related costs, according to a staff report for Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The council can choose to either start transferring the Navy-owned property to Concord First Partners right away and lose leverage over the project’s future, or deny the request and risk seeing a second a master developer walk away in three years. City officials say they were blindsided by the maneuver after the development team agreed last year to collaborate in planning the...

A once-in-a-century pandemic resulted in a once-in-a-decade revenue hit for the Pac-12 and its member universities. The conference on Friday reported $344 million in revenue for the 2021 fiscal year, according to federal tax filings provided to the Hotline in response to a request. That figure constitutes the lowest revenue total for the Pac-12 since 2013 — the first year of the current media rights agreement with Fox and ESPN and the inaugural year of the Pac-12 Networks. The revenue plunge caused by COVID and the truncated 2020 football season resulted in the conference distributing an average of $19.8 million to each school, a drop of 41 percent from the prior year (FY20), when the pandemic had a negligible fiscal impact. The Pac-12’s campus distributions, which help support athletic department operations, lagged far behind some Power Five peers in FY21. The SEC, for example, played a full football season and distributed $54.6 million per school, according to USA Today. “While the global pandemic significantly impacted our 2020-21 financial results, I am incredibly proud of our conference’s collective commitment to the...

In this article RIVNProduction of electric Amazon delivery vans on April 11, 2022 at Rivian's plant in Normal, Ill.Michael Wayland / CNBCShares of Rivian Automotive sank Monday after a report by the Wall Street Journal that the upstart electric-vehicle maker is suing a key supplier in a legal battle that could delay vans ordered by Amazon. Amazon, a major investor in Rivian, placed an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans last year. Rivian's lawsuit, according to the report, accuses Ohio-based Commercial Vehicle Group of violating its contract with Rivian to supply seats for the vans by sharply raising its prices after the contract was signed. It said in court filings that the dispute could impact its ability to deliver the vans as promised, the Journal reported. Commercial Vehicle Group has denied the allegations, according to the report, arguing that it wasn't obliged to deliver the seats at the lower price and that it raised its price after Rivian submitted changes to the design of the seats. Rivian's shares were down about 6% in mid-afternoon trading. Representatives for Rivian and Commercial...
