Radio Host Charlamagne tha God laid responsibility for Friday’s Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in the hands of the Democratic Party during The Breakfast Club on Monday. While discussing the ruling that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade case from 1973, Charlamagne tore into Democrats for not acting to codify the case into law sooner. “What we witnessed on Friday was the cowardice of the Democratic party catching up to them,” argued the host. Charlamagne claimed that Democrats have known “what Republicans have been planning for decades,” because “Republicans have never hidden their agenda.” “They have shown and told us what play they are going to run,” said the host, and “for some reason, Democrats never crafted a defense to stop” them. “Yes, it’s easy to point the finger at Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell,” continued Charlamagne, acknowledging that the Republican Party was able to appoint three justices to the Supreme Court. “But I feel like the cowardice and inaction from Democrats caused a lot of this,” pressed Charlamagne. The host specifically called out Former...

It’s no secret that food prices are rising, with some foods — packaged cereal, for example — expected to rise as much as 20 percent this year. The solution? Cook at home. Homemade fare is not only more budget friendly than buying ready-made meals, it’s more delicious, too. And DIY granola is the answer to the overpriced cereal issue. This easy Baklava Granola recipe was inspired by my desire to eat baklava for breakfast. As I realized that was neither practical nor optimal, I developed this healthier take on the beloved dessert. It uses oats and sunflower seeds as a foundation and layers in additional flavors and textures. Warming spices from the pantry, such as cinnamon and cloves, add depth and sweetness without the need for excess sugar. Walnuts, pistachios and honey give this mix that signature baklava flavor. Bake it, let it cool, then sprinkle it over yogurt with fruit or enjoy it with a generous pour of almond milk. Baklava Granola Serves 10 INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats 1/2 cup pistachios, chopped 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 1/2...
The Lost Poet stands discreetly at the posh end of London’s Portobello Road in a row of magnificent Georgian townhouses. Anyone who liked the Hugh Grant/Julia Roberts rom-com Notting Hill will love staying here and anyone who didn’t much like it would find it hard not to be impressed by the spankingly glamorous interiors of this new bolthole. Apparently Americans already have fallen for it, although once they start travelling again in numbers lots of them will be disappointed because there are only four rooms, one on each floor, including the basement. Ashlie D. Stevens September 27, 2020 8:30PM (UTC) The term "pumpkin spice" —  especially when paired with "latte" — has become a bizarre cultural stand-in for conversations about capitalism, holiday creep, and the dissemination of the concept of being "basic."  But let's take a step back from what pumpkin spice has come to stand for, and talk about what it actually is. The spice blend is a mix of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and sometimes allspice. It isn't a modern invention — as much as it may seem that it was born out of a Starbucks board meeting. There are references to it in "The Original Boston Cooking-School Cookbook," an 1896 publication by Fannie Merritt Farmer.  : It imbues dishes with that kind of classic fall flavor that is instantly recognizable when it hits your tongue — which yes, is great for hot coffee drinks (or the faux-Starbucks pumpkin cream cold brew that I DIY-ed in my home kitchen), but it's also ideal for baked goods.  The thing is, I'm not an all-autumn pumpkin pie eater; I kind of...

SAN ANTONIO – Two new menu items — a breakfast option and a seasonal plate — are headed to Bill Miller Bar-B-Q restaurants starting this week. The barbecue chain on Monday announced a new sausage breakfast sandwich and the return of the turkey plate. The turkey plate with two sides and a large tea, priced at $7.95, will stick around until Oct. 4 while supplies last, the chain states. Fans may expect it to return closer to the holidays, as it has in previous years. Stuffing and gravy, as well as mashed potatoes, are offered as sides. The Breakfast Sandwich you know and love, but with a twist✨Posted by Bill Miller Bar-B-Q on Monday, September 7, 2020Many commenters loved the menu additions, while others demanded the return of soup. After spending his junior year in Paris as a student at the University of Connecticut in 1985, Craig Carlson fell in love with the city and all things French. Though he moved to Los Angeles to begin a career as a screenwriter after graduating, he eventually drifted back to France in 2001 for a second stint working on a TV show. Back in Los Angeles seeing friends, pals asked what he had missed most during his time away. “Breakfast!” he said without hesitating. “Can you believe it? It’s impossible to get an American breakfast in France.” At that moment, an idea came to him. He would return to Paris yet again — and despite having no experience in the restaurant industry, he would start an American diner. He returned to the City of Light and in 2003, Breakfast in America, or BIA for short, was opened in The Marais district. It was the first American diner in Paris, and the first restaurant to introduce Parisians to Lumberjack Specials, or the P’tit dej du Bucheron: two eggs any style, two bacon,...
LOGAN SQUARE — Mi Tocaya Antojería wants to be a one-stop shop for your Sunday brunch and grocery haul. The Mexican restaurant at 2800 W. Logan Blvd. will serve to-go breakfast and host a mini farmers market 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays beginning this weekend. The Sunday breakfast menu includes breakfast burritos, tortas, elotes and raspas, or Mexican snow cones. Mi Tocaya partnered with Geneva Lakes Produce, based in Burlington, Wisconsin, to stock the farm stand. Geneva Lakes has sold its produce at Mi Tocaya on Sundays for several weeks, but this upcoming weekend is the first time neighbors can grab Mi Tocaya breakfast along with their produce. “It’s a win-win for everyone involved,” said chef and owner Diana Dávila. “It’s a win for the neighborhood, win for the farmer, win for us.” Dávila developed the idea as part of a patchwork approach to keep business flowing despite the coronavirus shutdown. Mi Tocaya is offering carryout, delivery and patio service. Dávila has also been giving out packaged meals to neighbors in need thanks to a national restaurant relief initiative. “You have to keep...

In a first-time dialogue between two of the biggest brands in political radio, conservative icon Rush Limbaugh and the progressive co-hosts of "The Breakfast Club" -- Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee -- found common ground in a candid conversation about the death of George Floyd. "For almost 10 years, we have been the voice of our community working to push our culture forward," DJ Envy told listeners at the beginning of the interview. "We've always had diverse guests and are open to the tough conversations. In that spirit, today we're having a candid conversation with fellow broadcaster Rush Limbaugh. Why are we having this conversation with someone whose historical viewpoints differ so significantly from ours and who we represent? Because a dialogue has to happen beyond who we know and who we talk to every morning." He continued, "Today, Rush's listeners will hear us probably for the first time ever. What we are witnessing in our nation right now is not normal and it compels our attention to understand every side and look for ways to bring this country together and stop...
