Jennifer Lawrence was left in a fit of giggles as she was photographed bumping into a stranger who was sporting the exact same dress as her while out for a walk on the streets of New York City - however the actress is not the only star who has fallen victim to the matching outfit faux pas.  Although J Law, 31, was coincidently captured on camera, over the past few years many stars have faced an even more embarrassing situation after showing up to the red carpet wearing the exact same outfit as another celebrity guest. One of the biggest fashion fears for any A-lister is confidently arriving at the red carpet only to find themselves sporting an identical ensemble to one of the other attendees.  But despite the majority of stars boasting a styling team who help to ensure they look their very best at any and all events they might attend, the accidental outfit match has happened to a number of different celebrities, from Shakira to Olivia Munn to Julianne Hough.   However instead of sulking off and hiding...

Harrison Pawluk, 22, politely interrupted the elderly woman as she drank a takeaway cup of coffee in the Emporium Melbourne mall, and asked her to hold the bouquet.  'Sorry to bother you, is it ok if you can just hold these?' he asked, having been inspired to perform random acts of kindness after seeing the plight of people living in poverty overseas. Pawluk then put his backpack on the ground and pulled out a black parker before walking off and leaving the old woman with the flowers. 'Have a lovely day,' he said, evoking an expression of tears on the woman's face. DEAR MISS MANNERS: Is it unreasonable to expect some amount of privacy at a restaurant table? Every once in a while, I have encountered people who loudly talk to complete strangers (judging by their questions) at other tables. They might even call out to someone who is halfway across a large dining room. Most recently, my partner and I were trying to eat lunch with my visiting relative, but a man at a nearby table kept asking the relative questions, as if my partner and I were not even there. Sign up for the free Mother Jones newsletter. At some point between the ’80s and now, leaving children unattended in public became unthinkable. To let children as old as, say, 10 walk by themselves became grounds to investigate parents for neglect. As a child of the late ’90s and early 2000s, I knew latchkey kids existed, but nearly exclusively from the aging 1980s children’s paperbacks in my elementary school’s library. My friends whose parents worked too late to pick them up from school stayed in the building for a child care program or took a bus to the nearby Boys & Girls Club. Statistics confirm the decline of the latchkey kid that I witnessed and that continues today. A primary reason for the change was the fear that children were constantly on the cusp of being kidnapped, abused, or taken advantage of, and thus could never be left alone. Paul Renfro, an assistant professor of history at Florida State University, chronicled in his 2020 book Stranger Danger: Family Values,...
