Justin K. Aller/Getty Images Rasheed Bailey #16 of the Carolina Panthers can't make the catch against Brian Allen #29 of the Pittsburgh Steelers during a preseason game on August 30, 2018. Friday was a busy day around the NFL for tryouts and workouts, with several ex-Pittsburgh Steelers getting an opportunity to potentially get back in the league. For one, former Steelers fifth-round pick Brian Allen worked out for the New Orleans Saints, as per the NFL’s daily personnel notice. Allen — 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds — appeared in 16 games for the Steelers in 2017-18, but the ex-Utah Ute has been a fringe NFL’er ever since. He went on to spend time with the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills before starting one game for the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, then joined the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad late that season. The Cleveland Browns subsequently signed Allen away from the Bengals in January 2021 and he appeared in three games with Cincinnati last year after the Bengals re-signed him. This spring Allen was the first defensive back selected...

He has 264 career carries for 1,333 yards and four rushing touchdowns, with a long gainer of 75 yards, which came against the New Orleans Saints during his rookie year. He also has 191 career catches for 1,590 yards and three TD receptions. Getty Bob Myers, Warriors GM The NBA, three years after suspending him for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, finally reinstated veteran guard Tyreke Evans back in February. Now, the Warriors have given him a look, with the thought that maybe joining a team with a championship culture could jumpstart a comeback by the one-time star. This week, according to a report from J.D. Shaw of HoopsRumors.com, Evans was given a free-agent workout by the Warriors. Golden State, in an effort to minimize the upcoming blow to its books that the luxury tax will cause, is hoping to continue its tradition of finding bargain free agents who can contribute. Evans, if he were to be signed, would be given only a veteran’s minimum deal and, under NBA rules, the Warriors would pay only part of that. Evans also worked out for the Warriors in March. Bob Myers, the Warriors’ general manager, had been Evans’ agent before he went into the Golden State front office. Evans played for four teams over 10 years after he was the No. 4...

As reported by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears brought three defensive linemen in for a workout this week: Auzoyah Alufohai, P.J. Johnson and Josh Avery. With veteran defensive tackle Akiem Hicks starting and both Angelo Blackson and LaCale London listed on the depth chart behind him, Chicago is getting a good look at a few of the younger and currently available players at defensive tackle. With Hicks turning 32 later this season and Blackson turning 29 close to the same time, Chicago is likely seeing if they can find anyone to compete with the younger London (he’s 24) for a spot on the practice squad. At least one of the three also has experience playing nose tackle, and with Chicago’s third-string NT, veteran Mike Pennel, going on injured reserve, the team could also use some depth behind starter Eddie Goldman and rookie seventh-round pick Khyiris Tonga. Just a few days after she began working in Andrew Cuomo’s executive chamber, former press officer Cassie Moreno was startled when the first of nearly a dozen women came forward to accuse the New York governor of sexual misconduct. But it didn’t take long before Moreno, who worked in the chamber for just two months before quitting due to the toxic work culture, discovered for herself that Cuomo’s office was “an environment of control unlike anything you can even picture,” she said. “I wanted it to work out so badly,” the 25-year-old told The Daily Beast in an interview Tuesday, the same day the New York state Attorney General’s office said it had concluded Cuomo violated state and federal laws by sexually harassing current and former employees. “This was someone who theoretically had led the United States through the pandemic at the time, that was the framing.” Although Moreno was not the victim of sexual misconduct, she said from her first days in the office in December of last year, it quickly became clear to her that her new...

This is most true when it comes to the running back position, as the group has seen its fair share of movement in recent days. Getty Former Iowa center Luka Garza is a two-time National Player of the Year. Joel Embiid may be one of the most dominant centers in the league, but you can never have too many big men. Especially not when the consensus National Player of the Year might be available in the upcoming NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers worked out former Iowa standout Luka Garza on Wednesday. The 6-foot-11, 243-pounder is projected to go in the late first round (maybe second) and should be on the board when the Sixers select at No. 28. Garza, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, averaged 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks per game last season for the Hawkeyes. He left Iowa as the school’s all-time leading scorer (2,306 points) and the only player in Big Ten history with more than 2,250 points and 900 rebounds. They already retired his jersey number (55). Could she be any more single? Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée, literary manager Molly Hurwitz, stepped out for a stroll in Los Angeles on Wednesday without her engagement ring — but she did have one reminder of the “Friends” star with her. She says: “I feel for JLo, it’s so tempting to get back with an ex. You don’t have to worry about going out and meeting someone new. An ex is familiar and sometimes it’s easy to fall back into that trap - especially when you’re rebounding. “But after what happened to me, I would advise Jen to stay well clear. I had been with Mike* for two years when I found out he’d been cheating on me. Democrats in New York’s Senate and state Assembly have proposed $2.1 billion to extend unemployment benefits to undocumented workers and the formerly incarcerated, and they are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.  Talks between the governor’s office and state lawmakers have now progressed to how the relief program, the Excluded Workers Fund, would work "programmatically," state Sen. Jessica Ramos, D-Queens, said, according to Politico.  Recipients of the fund would retroactively receive $600 for each week they were out of work between March 27 and July 31, 2020, and $300 for each week from Aug. 1, 2020, to Sept. 6, 2021. Anyone who has been out of work for the entire duration of the pandemic would receive an immediate payment of $20,700 and could receive up to $6,600 more if they remain out of work until September.  The fund would cover both illegal immigrants and those who have been released from incarceration since October 2019 and thus did not build up the work history needed to qualify for unemployment.   NY IS LATEST STATE TO LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL...

The former assistant director for counterintelligence for the FBI said Sunday that authorities will “very quickly” be able to determine the Nashville explosion on Christmas Day was the work of a suicide bomber. In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Frank Figliuzzi said he believes the human tissue discovered in a demolished van near the AT&T building in the Tennessee city belonged to Anthony Quinn Warner, who on Saturday was revealed as a “person of interest” in the investigation. “I do believe that well fairly quickly see Warner turn from person of interest to the subject of the investigation,” he said, citing his own sources. “And I think right now were all waiting for DNA results of that tissue that we all heard has been found in and around the scene.” “I think it is quite likely that this was a suicide mission for this individual…. [with]  some personal connection to that {AT&T] building, to Christmas Day, or to some other thing that caused him to act out.” Figliuzzi said a major concern for law enforcement agent is copycat incidents, lamenting the “incredibly politically charged environment” that could serve as a catalyst. “The notion of a copycat seeing what has happened...
