Amber Heard has dumped the attorney who defended her in her unsuccessful defamation trial with Johnny Depp as she now tries to appeal the verdict.  Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, who represented the Aquaman actress in the six-week defamation trial, has parted ways with Heard. Attorney's David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown, who represented The New York Times earlier this year in a defamation lawsuit against 2008 vice president nominee Sarah Palin, will take over as the appeal proceeds.  The pair work for Ballard Spahr and have covered various cases, including companies and individuals in high-stakes civil litigation, speakers in First Amendment cases, journalists, and news organizations. Announcing the news, Heard's spokesperson said in a statement: 'When it comes protecting the fundamental right of Freedom of Speech, we look at the jury's decision - to paraphrase a famous quote - not "as the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning."'  'A different court warrants different representation, particularly as so much new evidence is now coming to light.' Heard, 36, was ordered to pay her ex-husband more than $10 million in damages at...
The City University of New York deleted a profile of a graduate who was the youngest member of Johnny Depp's legal team in his defamation trial against Amber Heard.  Yarleyn Mena, 29,  a 2015 graduate of CUNY's Hunter College and a Brown Rudnick LLP associate, was originally touted for her work in helping Depp win a $10.35 million verdict in the heated trial that captured the nation's attention.  The show of support for the graduate, however, went out the door after CUNY said it received concerns from students and faculty over the profile piece as they offered an apology.  'We understand the strong negative emotions this article elicited and apologize for publishing the item,' the public university system said in a statement replacing the link to the story on Mena.  'The article was not meant to convey support for Mr. Depp, implicitly or otherwise, or to call into question any allegations that were made by Amber Heard,' CUNY added.  'Domestic violence is a serious issue in our society and we regret any pain this article may have caused.'  Yarleyn Mena,...
Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez says the Pirates of the Caribbean star would've moved on from his defamation case if his ex-wife, Amber Heard, didn't file an appeal to overturn the million-dollar settlement. Vasquez sat down for an interview with CBS Morning's host Gayle King on Thursday to discuss the ongoing defamation case amid both parties filing appeals. 'So is it safe to say that if she hadn't appealed you all would not have appealed either, you would've moved on?' King asked. 'Yes - that's a very fair statement,' Vasquez responded. Johnny Depp and his legal team would have moved on, his lawyer, Camille Vasquez, says, if Amber Heard’s legal team had not filed an appeal to overturn the more than $10.3 million settlement she was ordered to pay to her ex-husband. pic.twitter.com/B2JlvpQpc5— CBS Mornings (@CBSMornings) July 28, 2022 in an interview with CBS Morning, Camille Vasquez said the actor and his legal team would've moved on and not filed a counter appeal if Amber Heard didn't seek to overturn the 10.3 million settlement from the defamation case A judge...
▶ Watch Video: Johnny Depp’s attorney discusses decision to file appeal in defamation case Although a jury found both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard liable in a defamation trial last month, the legal battle isn’t over yet. Camille Vasquez, one of Depp’s attorneys, spoke to “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King about their decision to appeal the verdict. Last week, Heard notified a Virginia court that she will appeal the $10.3 million settlement she was ordered to pay her ex-husband. Depp’s team also filed a notice of appeal after the jury found him liable and ordered him to pay his former wife $2 million. Vasquez said Depp’s team expected Heard to appeal. “Do you have to plan a strategy to respond to that?” King asked. “Absolutely,” Vasquez said. “And we did. Mr. Depp ended up filing his own appeals so that the court could have the full record. And — he insists on continuing to litigate this matter. We have to protect our client’s interest.” Vasquez said Depp’s team wouldn’t have appealed if Heard hadn’t. And, Vasquez added, “this was never about...
Camille Vasquez was spotted introducing her British boyfriend Edward Owen to her star client Johnny Depp at his concert in Prague on Monday. The happy couple were spotted laughing and joking with the Pirates of the Caribbean star in a backstage area of his European tour with guitarist Jeff Beck, 79. He was seen beaming at Vasquez, 37, and Owen, 38, before pulling him into a bear hug as she smiled watching on. Depp, 59, has embarked on the music tour, playing multiple concerts, and releasing new music after his high-profile legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard. Vasquez also found herself thrust into the limelight after defending the actor in his highly publicized case – with the jury largely siding with him. Heard had claimed in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post that she was a domestic abuse survivor, and has now been ordered to pay Deep $10 million in compensation and $5 million in punitive damages. A court ruled that Heard had defamed him in the article, but the jury also awarded Heard $2million in her countersuit against...
NBC TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie has a history of exhibiting questionable judgment by entangling herself in conflicts of interest. Last week, Guthrie admitted just before interviewing actor Johnny Depp’s legal team – Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew – that her husband, Michael Feldman, did PR consulting for that team, which earlier this month won a defamation suit against Depp’s ex-wife actress Amber Heard. “A quick disclosure, my husband has done consulting work for the Depp legal team, but not in connection with this interview,” she said. While the disclosure should be appreciated, it is a cop-out as it was nonetheless a conflict of interest for Guthrie to conduct the June 8 interview. Even worse, Guthrie failed to give that disclosure on multiple occasions in relation to interviewing players in the case. This included during her June 2 interview with Heard lawyer Elaine Bredehoft. Guthrie again didn’t mention her conflict of interest during her interview with Heard, released this week. In 2017, Guthrie co-authored a children’s book with Allison Oppenheim, wife of NBC News President Noah Oppenheim, titled Princesses Wear...
Johnny Depp‘s attorney Ben Chew revealed the team resorted to unique tactics to ease stress and tension waiting for a verdict in the final hours of the actor’s courtroom drama with ex Amber Heard. Speaking with Jesse Weber, host of the podcast Law&Crime Sidebar (a project of Mediaite’s sister site Law & Crime), Chew detailed the final harrowing moments of the trial. He said the team tried to keep morale up until the bitter end. “We were so tense that one of my colleagues brought a Monopoly game. So we played Monopoly in our little breakout room,” Chew said. “I saw a side of some of my young colleagues that I’d never seen before,” Chew said jokingly. “Ruthlessness — and an unwillingness to sell their old mentor, some property.” “The second we heard that the jury was coming in. Of course we folded up the game and then it was just — our hearts were in our mouths, especially when the judge called us forward and told us that the jury had reached a verdict on...
Comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan joked about the quality of Amber Heard's lawyers amid her ongoing legal battle with her former husband, Johnny Depp.  Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 36, in a Virginia court for defamation following an op-ed that she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 in which the actress spoke about being a victim of domestic abuse. Heard did not mention Depp by name in the piece.  The 'Sweeney Todd' star is suing Heard for $50 million while she is countersuing for $100 million. On the May 26 edition of 'The Joe Rogan Experience,' Rogan joked with his guest, computer scientist Lex Fridman, that it looked as though Heard got her legal team from Craigslist.
Joe Rogan jokingly went after Amber Heard‘s legal team and expressed his hopes that Johnny Depp and hotshot lawyer Camille Vasquez will fall in love, during a recent podcast episode. On last Thursday’s edition of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan spoke with computer scientist and podcast host Lex Fridman about the ongoing Depp v. Heard trial. “I’m a fan of psychiatry. It’s just competence of two professional positions,” said Fridman. “One is lawyers. It seems like Johnny Depp’s lawyers are really good.” “Yes,” agreed Rogan as he began to laugh. “I wonder if they cost a lot more, like, do you have to pay a lot more for that kind of quality?” Fridman asked. Rogan then turned the focus to one of Depp’s lawyers, Vasquez. “That Camille Vasquez,” he said, “That lady’s a gangster. She’s amazing. I hope Johnny and her fall in love. That’s what I hope. I hope after this trial’s over, they go out to dinner and he thanks her, and then they fall in love and he gets sober.” “Look at you. You’re such a sweetheart...
(CNN)Kate Moss, who dated Johnny Depp in the 1990s, is expected to be called to testify as a rebuttal witness by his legal team in the ongoing trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, a source close to Depp tells CNN. A source close to Depp confirmed that Moss and Depp remain close to this day. Depp has sued Heard for $50 million alleging that a 2018 op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post defamed him, alleging the piece -- which did not mention him by name -- falsely painted him as an abuser. Heard has countersued Depp for $100 million, saying statements his attorney made calling her abuse claims a "hoax" were defamatory. Heard has testified on stand that she immediately thought about rumors related to Moss at the time Heard and her sister were in an alleged altercation with Depp. Read More"He swung at Whitney, and I'd heard a rumor, a vague rumor, about that," Heard testified on May 17. Kate Moss will appear at Johnny Depp's $100million defamation trial against Amber Heard, reports say. The British model, 48, who dated the actor from 1994, will reportedly take the stand on Wednesday after she was mentioned by the actress earlier in the case. A source told the New York Post: 'Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny's that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn't be further from the truth.' She is the glamorous junior attorney who has stolen the limelight at Johnny Depp's epic $50million defamation trial with her meticulous cross-examination of Amber Heard. But budding legal star Camille Vasquez, 37, was only handed the leading role at the last moment when Depp's team vetoed a plan to have well-known TV 'super lawyer' Kathleen Zellner grill his ex-wife, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 58, hired Zellner of Making a Murderer fame in February after binge-watching episodes of the hit Netflix show in which she battles to clear convicted killer Steven Avery. With her decades of success in overturning wrongful convictions, Depp felt Zellner, 64, had the gravitas and experience to pick holes in Heard's evidence. But DailyMail.com understands his existing legal team led by experienced attorney Ben Chew cautioned against integrating Zellner into the complicated case at the eleventh hour – and the job went instead to Vasquez, an associate at Chew's high-profile law firm Brown Rudnick.  Johnny Depp's star attorney Camille Vasquez was spotted heading to brunch with her lawyer friends on Friday...

A makeup brand has cast serious doubt on Amber Heard's abuse allegations against Johnny Depp - claiming that the concealer kit her lawyer said she used 'every day' to cover the bruises left by his attacks didn't even exist until a year after they split.  Exes Heard, 35, and Depp, 58 - who tied the knot in 2015, and were married for one year before Heard filed for divorce in 2016 - have been battling it out in court in recent weeks. The trial, which is still underway in Virginia, is attempting to determine if a 2018 Washington Post essay written by Heard, in which she accused the actor of domestic abuse, defamed Depp. Depp has continuously denied her allegations against him, and is seeking at least $50 million in compensatory damages and a punitive award of at least $350,000, along with attorneys' fees and court costs.  During the trial, Heard and her lawyers claimed that the actress used Milani's All In One Correcting Kit to cover up the alleged injuries that she received at the hands of her ex-husband.

We’re told Barlow, who has been seemingly inseparable from Heard in the past year, has allegedly been acting like part of the actress’ legal team and even attempted to intervene in the trial over Depp-friendly witness Gina Deuters.
