BOSTON (CBS) — Pro Football Focus is a website dedicated to grading every player on every team for every snap of NFL action that is played. Pro Football Focus is also a website that has been mightily impressed by the Patriots this preseason. So impressed, in fact, that the Patriots have three players who are currently the highest graded players at their respective position. Rookie Mac Jones’ current spot as the best quarterback in the NFL is certainly the headline … The highest-graded QBs so far this preseason ???? pic.twitter.com/sfDS55wJtf — PFF (@PFF) August 23, 2021 …  but Jakobi Meyers being the highest-graded wide receiver and Matthew Judon being the highest-graded EDGE defender is significantly noteworthy as well. Playing for your dad or coaching your kid?  I never played for my dad but I have coached my kids. My daughter will tell you that she was an all-star catcher in spite of and not because of her youth coach. I knew it was time for her to play for someone else when at the first Juniors practice at the age of 13, she pointed at me and said “you know I’m not going to listen to you, right?” God bless the coaches on this list. College basketball has a long history of players being coached by their fathers. This season is no different....
The Warriors have found their best closing five, and it’s a lineup that absolutely no one would have predicted even a few weeks ago. Golden State’s win over the Suns Tuesday night might have been the team’s best victory of the season, with the Warriors going on a 12-3 run in the final 150 seconds of the contest. The Warriors’ run almost coincided with coach Steve Kerr putting forward Juan Toscano-Anderson into the game, and it was highlighted by an open Jordan Poole 3-pointer that gave the Warriors their first lead since the first quarter with only 1:41 to play. Golden State has been clunky in crunch time all season. They’re 14-16 in games decided by five points or less, with a minus-8.2 net rating in the final five minutes of such tight games. There are many reasons for those struggles: Stephen Curry can’t simply shoot over his defender, like a wing, Andrew Wiggins (save for last night) doesn’t play with enough force to be an alpha wing, and opposing teams don’t even guard...
For all of the success the Giants have enjoyed during the first month of the season, Gabe Kapler’s club opened Monday’s three-game series without a single blowout victory. Hello, Colorado Rockies. Against a last-place team whose general manager quit on the club earlier in the day, the Giants scored nine runs in the first two innings and picked up a 12-0 shutout win to improve to 15-7 on the year. Each of the Giants’ first 22 games this season were decided by four runs or fewer, but that finally changed on a night when three different players –Evan Longoria, Buster Posey and Mauricio Dubón– each drove in at least three runs. Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani was just as good as the Giants’ offense on Monday as he tossed the team’s first complete game shutout since Chris Stratton blanked the Rockies in a 2-0 win at Oracle Park on September 14, 2018. Longoria hadn’t started since Thursday due to a nagging left hamstring issue, but broke a scoreless tie with a RBI single in the first inning...
DENVER (CBS4) – “You say the name Vetanze to Bronco players, they either come in here or they’ve heard of him,” Mario Vetanze said of his father, Nelson Vetanze. (credit: CBS) Dr. Nelson Vetanze might not be a name that Broncos fans readily recognize. But to Broncos players, Dr. V is legend. READ MORE: Denver Weather: Snow Remains Below Normal, More Arrives This Week “My first experience with Dr. V was in camp in Greeley. Bill Romanowski said he had a chiropractor for me, and I was like, what’s a chiropractor?” former Broncos receiver Rod Smith said. “He did this one move, and all of a sudden I could raise my arm for the first time in a year.” By the 1998, Vetanze was working on so many Broncos that Bill Romanowski and Rod Smith decided the doc should be brought in-house. Pat Bowlen, Mike Shanahan, and Steve Antonopulos unanimously signed off on it “I honestly believe my career would have lasted 3 or 4 years if Romanowski had never introduced me to Dr V,” Smith said. “I guarantee there...
The second impeachment trial against Donald Trump opens this Tuesday, February 9, before the Senate. The former US president will have to answer for his actions, having for the Democrats led to the assault on the Capitol on January 6. If the billionaire decided to play the strategy of the empty chair, refusing to testify at the hearing, his opponents are nonetheless determined that the former head of state be held responsible for the insurgency which shocked the United States. “The story of the president’s actions is both fascinating and horrific,” Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin, who will play the role of prosecutor at the hearings, told The New York Times. “We believe every American should be aware of what happened – that it is to ensure that such an attack on our democracy and our Constitution does not happen again that he should be condemned and impeached. ” But the task promises to be complicated. To remove Trump, 17 Republicans would have to join the Democrats and vote against the former White House tenant. But prosecutors intend...
Actor Neil Patrick Harris says that it is better to hire the “best actor” to play a role, rather than someone who shares the same sexuality as their character. “I think there’s something sexy about casting a straight actor to play a gay role, if they’re willing to invest a lot into it,” said Harris in an interview with The Times UK.  The actor added that he believes the “best actor” should be chosen for a role, despite their sexuality. Harris, who stars in Russell T. Davies’ Aids Crisis drama It’s A Sin, has a showrunner who disagrees with him, though. In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Davies said that gay actors should play gay characters. “You wouldn’t cast someone able-bodied and put them in a wheelchair; you wouldn’t black someone. Authenticity is leading us to joyous places,” said Davies. Though that has happened, when Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor Oscar for his role as a wheelchair-bond boy suffering from cerebral palsy in My Left Foot. As Breitbart News reported, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ extensive new “diversity” standards would make...
By Ryan Mayer (KDKA)- After resting some of their bigger names this past Sunday, the Steelers have another date with the Browns in the Wild Card round set for Sunday night at Heinz Field. It’s the third time the teams will be meeting this season, but the Browns will be without their main play caller and head coach, Kevin Stefanski, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. Stefanski is one of several Browns coaches that tested positive and the Cleveland team coming to Pittsburgh is one that could be missing multiple key pieces. “It’s hard to really have an idea of how this team is going to look coming out, there are so many unknowns. The fact that Stefanski was put on the COVID list so early in the week and didn’t have that time to be around the team this week, to game plan, get everyone regrouped and get everyone back on the same page to play the same team they just played the week before, I think it’s difficult,” said NFL on CBS lead reporter Tracy Wolfson....
By Matthew Geagan, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — After two straight losses, the Celtics needed a victory on Tuesday night. Or at the very least, they had to show us some fight. Boston did both in their rematch with the Pacers and came away with its best win of the young season — a 116-111 comeback victory in Indiana. After Boston let Sunday night’s game in Indy slip away, Tuesday night saw the Celtics erase a 17-point third quarter deficit thanks to some lockdown defense and a determination to own the inside. Boston trailed by 17 points late in the third quarter, as coming out of halftime was once again the Celtics’ kryptonite. The Pacers dropped 37 points in the frame, outscoring Boston by 12 points. But the Celtics turned things up to 11 in the final minutes of the frame, and that carried through to the final buzzer. After going down 88-71, Boston went on a furious 45-23 over the final 15 minutes of the game. “We played with a little bit of desperation since we were down 17...
Texas couple of 30 years die of Covid-19 within minutes of one other while holding hands Fauci tells Americans not to see their kids for Christmas ESPN’s Mike Shiffman talks their NBA coverage this year: “The production will be at its best when we can travel people.” The 2020-21 NBA regular season is set to begin Dec. 23, but it’s going to be a very different season than normal thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. And that has effects on national coverage from ESPN as well. ESPN and ABC will combine to televise 49 games in the first half of the season, including five games on Christmas Day, but those games are going to be presented a little differently than normal; while around half of them will feature on-site production trucks (and mostly on-site announcers), the other half will be done under the “enhanced world feed” (EWF) model, where ESPN takes in a feed from the home regional sports network broadcasting the game and adds its own announcers (mostly working from their homes), graphics, extra camera angles (from three specific...
By KDKA Staff (KDKA)- After a hard-fought win over the division rival Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday afternoon, the Steelers have improved to 11-0 on the season. Wednesday’s game was the second this season in which the Steelers had a game moved multiple times due to an opponent’s issues with COVID-19. But, they have continued to roll on and NFL on CBS’ analyst Amy Trask points to the mentality instilled by head coach Mike Tomlin as a big reason why. “They have had some schedule hiccups that are borne of virus-related adjustments and Mike Tomlin leads this team with a, ‘I don’t want to hear about it. We’re not going to complain about it. We focus on what needs to be done,’ mentality. I love that,” said Trask. “Because look, in the moment in time in which we are living when people have real challenges and I mean life challenges, I don’t want to hear a football team complaining, ‘Well we didn’t get to play on Thursday, we have to play on Wednesday.’ I love Mike Tomlin’s approach which is, ‘We’re...
