Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton revealed he agonizingly had to give up the chance to star alongside Tom Cruise in the Top Gun: Maverick film.  Hamilton, 37, has enjoyed minor forays into Hollywood in the past, making a cameo in Zoolander 2 and lending his voice to Cars 2 and Cars 3 but he almost landed his dream role.  The Brit was a fan of the original Top Gun film as a child, which made him 'fixated' on being a fighter pilot.  Although he ended up on the track rather than in the skies, Hamilton revealed he almost had the chance to live out his dream on the big screen.  In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hamilton said he begged his friend Tom Cruise to let him have a role in the Top Gun sequel.  'Basically I'm a friend of Tom,' Hamilton said before adding, 'Cruise.' 'One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He invited me to his set years ago when he was doing Edge of Tomorrow and then we just built a friendship over time.'  Formula One...

"We are very pleased that Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) were able to come to an agreement on legislation that includes full and permanent funding of the excise tax that funds the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund," Roberts said in a statement. "We are also pleased to see that provisions were included in the IRA that will extend tax credits to renewable energy supply chain manufacturers that build plants in the coalfields, which will be a big step toward providing good jobs to these distressed communities. The enhanced tax credits for carbon capture and storage included in the legislation will also be a boon for coalfield jobs. We urge swift passage of this legislation by Congress." Manchin said in a statement last week that the measure "invests in the technologies needed for all fuel types – from hydrogen, nuclear, renewables, fossil fuels and energy storage – to be produced and used in the cleanest way possible. It is truly all of the above, which means this bill does not arbitrarily shut off our abundant fossil...

China fired its most direct warning shot yet amid reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may visit Taiwan on Friday, saying that if the speaker's plane is accompanied by U.S. fighter jets, they would not rule out shooting them down. 'If US fighter jets escort Pelosi's plane into Taiwan, it is invasion. The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi's plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down,' Hu Xijin, a commentator with the Chinese state-affiliated Global Times, wrote on Twitter.   Earlier China warned the U.S. against crossing a 'red line' as it released not-so-subtle warnings against the speaker, which China has reasoned is number three in line in U.S. government, from visiting Taiwan.  The U.S. must be prepared to 'bear all consequences' if Pelosi chooses to visit Taiwan, Chinese foreign minister Zhao Lijian said in a briefing Friday.  National Security Spokesman John Kirby said Friday the Pentagon has seen no indication of a military threat.  'We just don't have any concrete indications of something...

Novak Djokovic has hit out at Wimbledon's decision to ban all Russian and Belarusian players and supports the decision by the ATP men's tour to withhold ranking points from that tournament as a show of unity among players - even though the move will negatively affect his hold on the world No 1 spot. In response to a reporter's question after his first-round victory at the French Open on Monday night, Djokovic – who will defend his Wimbledon title this summer – called the All England Club's ban of players from Russia and Belarus over the invasion of Ukraine 'a mistake' and criticised Wimbledon organisers for their lack of communication. Officials Monday also revealed Nguyen had left another signed, handwritten note inside the family home dated April 25 - seven days before the murder - stating what to do with her sons remains. Watson also revealed that Goldman Sachs entered into an 'advertising partnership' with Ozy Media even after its co-founder, COO Samir Rao, was caught impersonating a YouTube executive during a conference call with the Wall Street investment banking giant in February.  Last week, it was reported that Ozy would be shutting down less than a week after a New York Times column raised questions about the media organization's claims of millions of viewers and readers, while also pointing out a potential case of securities fraud.  “This is our Lazarus moment.”Watch @craigmelvin’s full interview with...

'Approximately, I think it's about ten thousand or so, twelve thousand,' Mayorkas told Fox News Sunday when asked how many have already been released into the country. 'It could be even higher,' he added. 'The number that are returned could be even higher. What we do is we follow the law as Congress has passed it.' The new numbers suggest that there were actually 17,000 mostly Haitian migrants part of the Del Rio, Texas encampment rather than the previous figures that said the number didn't top 15,000. It comes as even more Haitian migrants make their way to the U.S., with images emerging Saturday of a caravan traveling to the Panama border from Acandi, Colombia. Mayorkas continued to downplay the massive southern border crisis on Sunday, saying these migrations are 'nothing new' and telling Fox he wouldn't classify the crossing as a 'flood' of people. Dr. Anthony Fauci has admitted that a group of top scientists held a secret February 2020 call where they said they thought COVID-19 'could possibly be an engineered virus.' The nation's top disease expert told USA Today this week that the group decided on the emergency call that the situation around the virus's origins 'really needed to be looked into carefully.'  But publicly, Fauci adopted a stance that COVID-19 jumped naturally from animals to humans in a Chinese wet market close to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.  Fauci is now facing a growing backlash over his perceived flip-flopping about the origins of the virus. Trump's ex-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows waded into the criticism Friday, slamming Fauci and the media for 'ignoring the facts and siding with China.'   'What actually should have happened is journalists should have done their job. There was a Pulitzer Prize waiting for somebody to report on it and candidly what they did is there was so much animosity toward Donald Trump, the president and his administration they weren't willing to look at...
Do you feel like the two political parties don't matter anymore? It seems like now the two competing factions are a malevolent media, and the people they call racists. The media makes it clear who they don't like, and it's half the country. The half that shows their love for their country. Because that means you're a racist rube. Right, Mara? Mara Gay: I was really disturbed. I saw you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with you know explicative against Joe Biden, trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags. Which is also just disturbing because essentially the message was clear which was this is my country, not your country I own this. You know who else was disturbed by seeing dozens of American flags? The Nazis at Normandy. But I digress. The New York Times rushed to her defense, in a tweet -saying she was "irresponsibly taken out of context. Her argument was that Trump and many of his supporters have politicized the American flag. The attacks on her today are ill-informed and grounded...

Pfizer has submitted information to U.S. health regulators about a new version of its coronavirus vaccine that could allow it to be stored at refrigerator temperatures for up to 10 weeks. In an earnings report on Tuesday, the pharmaceutical company said it sent 'stability data' to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday and expects the formulation to be approved for emergency use 'soon.' Senator Ted Cruz (R- TX) said Wednesday night that LeBron James’ tweet on a tragic shooting in Columbus, Ohio was “grossly irresponsible.” James tweeted an image of the cop in the Ma’Khia Bryant shooting and saying, “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY.” He ended up taking the tweet down after getting a fair amount of criticism online. On Fox News Primetime, Cruz told Ben Domenech, “Unfortunately, this is a pattern where the left consistently goes after, attacks, and demonizes police officers. And they do so often before the facts are known, often before there is any evidence of what happened.” He even added, “In this instance, ‘you’re next’ could certainly be interpreted by some, even as a call for violence. And I think it was a grossly irresponsible message for LeBron James to send out.” “It may well be on an investigation that this police officer saved the life of a potential victim of a knife attack,” Cruz said, “and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. There needs to be an investigation, any time there is a shooting that takes someone’s life it should...
