Disney will not be streaming its latest animated film Lightyear on its streaming service in the Middle East after it was banned in theaters. Lightyear featured a kiss between two lesbian characters. The United Arab Emirates announced its ban on the film through the Media Regulatory Office of the country's Ministry of Culture and Youth. Saudi Arabia followed suit, announcing its own ban soon after. The Disney+ series Baymax will also not be released since it includes also LGBT characters. However, movies such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Eternals will remain on the service, as they skew to older audiences and were shown in Emirati theaters with various instances of censorship throughout. Energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm said she thinks President Biden will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin-Salman to talk gas prices when he visits Saudi Arabia next month.  'I think he will meet with the Saudi crown prince,' Granholm told CNN's State of the Union, after President Biden said days ago that he would not meet with the crown prince.  Granholm says a meeting will take place, but her insistence is only the latest in a line of mixed messaging on the trip.   'I'm not going to meet with MBS. I'm going to an international meeting and he's going to be part of it,' Biden told reporters Friday at the White House before he left to spend the weekend in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Biden will be in Jeddah in mid-July to attend a meeting of the GCC plus 3 summit to talk oil production. While there he will meet with the aging Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Energy Sec. Abu Dhabi, UAE (CNN)As Europe tries to stymie Moscow's war effort in Ukraine by weaning itself off Russia's oil, Middle Eastern nations appear to be the only producers with enough capacity to compensate. The question is, do any of them have the technical ability, and crucially, the willingness, to step up? Don't hold your breath, say oil analysts. Western states have imposed a host of sanctions to punish Russia for its war in Ukraine, but the European Union is yet to halt imports of oil and gas, Moscow's main source of revenue, to avoid hurting their own economies. A potential EU ban on Russian oil could lead to a shortfall of 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and 1.2 million bpd of petroleum products, according to the International Energy Agency. Europe cant live without Russian gas. Can this tiny Middle East country help? While Middle East nations hold almost half the world's proven oil reserves and much of its spare production capacity, lack of investment in infrastructure, conflict, political alliances, and sanctions are among the reasons...

Antony Blinken on Sunday wouldn't rule out U.S. military action if Iranian leaders do not return to the negotiating table next month to resume discussions to prevent them from developing a nuclear weapon. 'The Iranians have now said that they're coming back to talks toward the end of November – we'll see if they actually do, that's going to be important,' the Secretary of State chuckled when speaking to CBS Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan. While Blinken said diplomacy is the preferred path forward, the administration is also exploring 'other options'. 'We were also looking at, as necessary, other options if Iran is not prepared to engage quickly in good faith,' Blinken said. 'To pick up where we left off in June when these talks were interrupted by the change in government in Iran, and to see if we can get back to mutual compliance – both countries coming back into the agreement as quickly as possible.' When Brennan pushed on if those options included potential military action, Blinken said: 'As we always say, every option is on the...
“We’ve been a nation too long at war. If you’re 20 years old today, you have never known an America at peace.” – Joseph R. Biden, August 31st 2021 President Joe Biden, like any politician worth his salt, is trying to sell you something. He’s not selling hoodies like AOC or ghostwritten books like the ones that built Bernie’s lakehouse. No, he’s bottled up a different kind of snake oil: comfort and reassurance. Biden tells us we can leave Afghanistan with no real plan for protecting ourselves. That we can choose to finally embrace peace after a generation of conflict. That, in fact, the youth of today were robbed of knowing an America at peace. Biden even tells us that he can keep us safe with only drone strikes, despite the fact that the CIA just evacuated most of their informants from the country. And, oh, the CIA director and the Secretary of Defense both admit we’re about to be blind. As we approach a sacred anniversary on Sept. 11, let’s stop and recognize a few truths as Biden seeks...
THE United States will keep the USS Nimitz in the Middle East after it had previously been ordered to end its deployment amid escalating threats from Iran, it was announced on Sunday. Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller announced that the aircraft carrier would remain in place as Iranian leaders have vowed to turn US aircraft carriers into “sinking submarines” on the anniversary of the death of Iran's revered commander Qasem Soleimani. 2The USS Nimitz will reportedly stay in the Middle East after Iran has escalated its threats against the United StatesCredit: AFP “Due to the recent threats issued by Iranian leaders against President Trump and other U.S. government officials, I have ordered the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) to halt its routine redeployment,” Miller said in the statement, obtained by MilitaryTimes.com. “USS Nimitz will now remain on station in the U.S. Central Command area of operations. No one should doubt the resolve of the United States of America.” The US has been conducting B-52 bomber flyovers and sent a nuclear submarine into the Persian Gulf. The military action was in response to...
The full meaning of the recent war in the Caucasus was captured in a sad video of Armenians gathered outside an old mountain church to sing one last hymn before going into exile. This small Christian nation’s humiliation at the hands of Azerbaijan and Turkey, two American allies, reveals the limits of US power and the need for a new strategy to aid Mideast Christians. Once a majority, Christians find themselves stranded on shrinking demographic islands in Muslim-majority states that can’t, and sometimes won’t, protect them. The old advocacy model, the Western crusade, is obsolete and was never very effective anyway. Our new model — human-rights lobbying — is even less successful. The story usually goes like this: A Christian population comes under attack, advocacy groups demand action from politicians, and politicians, though paying lip service to American values, ignore their request for fear of appearing biased or annoying local despots. There is a reason in their rhyme: The United States isn’t, in fact, a Christian state, yet we advocates continue our work unhindered, year after year, hoping for a...
Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh underscored the historic Middle East peace deal President Donald Trump signed at the White House on Tuesday, and emphasized that the media will not come anywhere close to providing the coverage it deserves. “So a big signing ceremony at the White House in mere moments for the peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain,” Limbaugh told his listeners. “And we mentioned the significance of this a couple of times. The real significance of this is that the Palestinians have sort of been rendered irrelevant in the whole deal. In the past, it was the Palestinians which were the focus, the focal point. They could stop anything from happening, and they did.” Limbaugh noted that peace deals within the Middle East have always been an unreachable feat for U.S. presidents — until Trump. “My whole life this has been a major political initiative that every new president tackles,” he said. “Every new president, my entire life, every new president, every new term has made Middle East peace an objective.” George W. Bush,...
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said Thursday that if he wins the election in November, he will not fully withdraw American troops from Afghanistan and the Middle East. Biden told Stars and Stripes Thursday he supported a continued presence of up to 2,000 ground troops throughout the region for executing operations against ISIS and other terror threats. “These ‘forever wars’ have to end,” Biden told the military paper. “I support drawing down the troops. But here’s the problem, we still have to worry about terrorism and [the Islamic State],” Biden said. Biden tells @starsandstripes that conditions in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq are so complicated that he cannot promise full withdrawal of troops in the near future and would likely keep a max 1500-2000 troops on the ground.https://t.co/QnUC6BUN5L — Alex Thompson (@AlxThomp) September 11, 2020 Biden also said that he did not favor cuts to U.S. defense spending, citing the need to deter “near-peer” powers like China and Russia. Biden’s position stands in contrast to many progressives who support a full withdrawal of American troops from the region. Though...
Doha (AFP) — Qatar will seek to host the 2032 Olympic Games, it said on Monday, joining a crowded field and raising questions about scorching summer temperatures and underwhelming attendances at past events. India, Australia’s Queensland state, the Chinese city of Shanghai and a potential joint bid between South and North Korea are also being touted for the 2032 summer games. Under changes put forward in 2014, interested countries submit a request to join the non-committal “continuous dialogue”, which Qatar confirmed to AFP it had done via a letter the to International Olympic Committee in Lausanne. “Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a meaningful dialogue with the IOC’s Future Host Commission to explore our interest further and identify how the Olympic Games can support Qatar’s long-term development goals,” Qatar Olympic Committee president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani told AFP in a statement. Qatar unsuccessfully bid to host the 2016 and 2020 games, having proposed to host the former in October without first clearing it with the IOC. It won a waiver to propose hosting the 2020 games, a...
