United States Attorney General Merrick Garland told the nation on Thursday that he "personally approved" the Department of Justice's request for a search warrant of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday. Garland also revealed that the Justice Department has filed a motion in the Southern District of Florida to unseal the warrant and the property receipt of the items – 15 boxes of allegedly classified materials that were removed from the White House during the waning days of Trump's term – that the Federal Bureau of Investigation confiscated from Trump's seaside compound. Garland noted that this action was a result of Trump announcing the "raid" in a Truth Social rant late Monday afternoon. Former President Donald Trump's final declassification request was blocked by the Justice Department after he left the White House, new records reveal. The memo by Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows that was delivered on the morning of Jan. 20, 2020, noted the Justice Department “must” release the binder of declassified documents about the flawed Trump-Russia investigation, following a Privacy Act review. The Justice Department under Attorney General Merrick Garland does not appear to have released the records despite the declassification order from Trump and the last-minute memo from Meadows. Republicans have also been pushing Garland to make the records public since early 2021 to no avail. The Jan. 20, 2021, memo was made public by Just The News after a visit to the Trump collection at the National Archives. Meadows told the DOJ the Office of Legal Counsel had said the Privacy Act doesn’t apply to the White House, but that “we do not intend to disclose materials that would violate the standards of the Privacy Act.” The Trump chief of staff nevertheless asked the DOJ...

Former President Donald Trump tried to distance himself from former aide Cassidy Hutchinson who was the House January 6 select committee's special guest during Tuesday's surprise hearing.  'I hardly know who this person, Cassidy Hutchinson, is, other than I heard very negative things about her (a total phony and "leaker"), and when she requested to go with certain others of the team to Florida after my having served a full term in office, I personally turned her request down,' Trump posted to his social media site Truth Social as Hutchinson's testimony was ongoing.  Hutchinson provided a number of embarrassing anecdotes about Trump's behavior during her Tuesday testimony - including that he tried to grab the wheel of the presidential limo, the 'Beast,' after he was told he couldn't go to the Capitol Building on January 6 and threw food at the wall after Attorney General Bill Barr said there was no widespread fraud in the 2020 election.  Using Truth Social, former President Donald Trump (left) tried to distance himself from ex-aide Cassidy Hutchinson (right) as she testified Tuesday in front...

Former President Donald Trump does not possess any of the documents subpoenaed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, he said in a sworn affidavit filed Friday. The sworn statement that the documents are not in his possession is likely intended to void a $10,000-per-day civil contempt of court finding against him by a New York judge, who panned Trump's legal team for not having an affidavit from the former president attesting that he turned over all the requested documents. "To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any of the documents requested in the subpoena dated December 1, 2021, in my personal possession, and if there are any documents responsive to the subpoena I believe they would be in the possession or custody of the Trump Organization," Trump swore in the filing. New York (CNN Business)Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing. Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months, according to the filing. He was arrested in December 2008 on allegations that the prestigious asset management firm he ran in Manhattan was in fact a pyramid-type scheme that swindled billions of dollars from thousands of people. He pleaded guilty to 11 felony charges related to money laundering, perjury and falsifying financial documents. He began his prison term in July 2009.Madoff has been serving his sentence at a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina. Michael Reaves/Getty Images. News broke Thursday morning that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has offered $41 billion for the acquisition of social media platform Twitter, leading to a few celebrities asking for a favor from the business tycoon, including NFL star Tom Brady. Brady took to Twitter Thursday, jokingly(?) asking Musk for one simple request if he buys the company: destroy the combine photo at all costs. The photo Brady is referring to, (if you haven’t seen it), is from the 2000 NFL combine when Brady was just a standout quarterback at Michigan and New England’s reign hadn’t happened yet. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi death row inmate has told a judge under oath that he wants to continue appealing his case, months after saying he wanted to give up his appeals and request an execution date. George County Circuit Court Judge Kathy King Jackson issued an order Monday noting the current wishes of the inmate, Blayde Nathaniel Grayson. Grayson, 46, appeared before Jackson on Thursday and said he wants to continue his appeal in federal court. Grayson was convicted of capital murder in 1997 for the stabbing death the previous year of 78-year-old Minnie Smith during a home burglary in south Mississippi’s George County. He said in a handwritten letter to the state Supreme Court in early December: “I ask to see that my execution should be carried out forthwith.” Grayson also said then that he wanted to end all of his appeals. Grayson’s attorney, David Voisin, submitted a letter days later asking justices to disregard Grayson’s request because Grayson still had an appeal pending in federal court. On Jan. 28, the state Supreme Court ordered that...

Famous TV doctor-turned-Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz responded to President Joe Biden's request that he resign from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition Wednesday, adding that the president should instead seek another infamous doctor’s resignation. “The doctor he should ask to resign is Dr. Anthony Fauci for a multitude of obvious reasons,” Oz said in a video message. “With that said, I’ve got no intention, my friends, of resigning — none.” A White House official told CNN Wednesday that Oz, along with fellow council member and Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker, were in violation of the Biden administration's policy of federal candidates serving on presidential boards. Ghislaine Maxwell in a courtroom sketch during her trial on Dec. 29th, 2021.Artist: Christine Cornell Federal prosecutors asked a judge to grant immunity to a juror so that he can be forced to testify Monday at a New York court hearing on whether he lied before he was selected to sit on the sex crime trial of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell. Juror 50's lawyer has said that without immunity from prosecution, the man will refuse to testify under his Fifth Amendment right against giving self-incriminating evidence on the witness stand. That stance reflects the potential risk that Juror 50 could be charged with lying on a jury selection questionnaire before Maxwell's trial. At the time, he indicated he had not been a victim of sexual abuse. But Juror 50 later told reporters that he had been abused as a child and that he had mentioned that fact to fellow jurors during their deliberations. The jury convicted Maxwell in late December of procuring underage girls to be sexually abused by late money manager Jeffrey Epstein.CNBC PoliticsRead more of CNBC's politics coverage:...

A federal judge has denied Ghislaine Maxwell request to keep her motion for a new trial under seal after a juror said after her conviction that he'd been sexually abused as a child.  U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan denied the request from February 1 on Friday as she claimed that doing so was not in the public interest.  The judge said public access to the documents and any ensuing publicity would not violate Maxwell's right to fair proceedings.  'The Court is unpersuaded by the Defendant's concern that media interest in the motion warrants temporary sealing of the documents in their entirety,' Nathan wrote in her ruling. Attorneys for Maxwell initially argued in a letter that the motion for the new trial should remain under seal until a judge has ruled on it or a hearing was held for the request, according to the New York Post.  Ghislaine Maxwell's request to keep her motion for a new trial sealed has been denied  Judge Alison Nathan denied the request as she claimed it was not in the public interest RELATED ARTICLES...

A San Antonio doctor says he performed an illegal abortion in protest of Texas’ new law that bans the procedure after the sixth week of pregnancy because he had a ‘duty of care’ to his patient. Alan Braid, an OB/GYN physician, said he did the procedure while treating a woman at his clinic on the morning of September 6 - five days after the restrictive new law known as SB8 went into effect. The woman was in her first trimester when the fetus was aborted, Braid wrote in The Washington Post, but the procedure was done beyond the six-week limit that is stated by law. The law relies on private citizens for enforcement, rewarding them with at least $10,000 plus legal fees for bringing a successful civil lawsuit against anyone who provides an abortion in violation of the act or who 'aids and abets' such an abortion. These bounty-hunting plaintiffs face no penalties for an unsuccessful suit. But for abortion-provider defendants, it's a very different scheme. A federal judge denied former President Trump's request to pause a lawsuit that accuses him of defaming writer E. Jean Carroll, who has accused him of raping her, because he said that she is not his 'type.'  Trump's lawyer Marc Kasowitz had asked Kaplan to stay the proceedings nine months ago.  Meanwhile Trump and the Department of Justice, who is still defending him even after he left office, are still appealing an earlier ruling in the case where Judge Lewis Kaplan decided against the DOJ's effort to have the US government replace Trump as the defendant.   Wednesday's decision allows proceedings and filings in Manhattan federal district court to move forward for the first time since last year, according to CNBC. Carroll, a longtime New York advice columnist, alleged in a July 2019 article that Trump raped her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City in either 1995 or 1996. Trump denied the allegations claiming she was 'totally lying' to sell her new book, was 'not my type' and that he had 'never met' her.  Trump's comments prompted...
