PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The shooting on the Ben Franklin Parkway has organizers of other gatherings throughout Philadelphia thinking twice about holding certain events. In West Philly, some block parties that were scheduled for next weekend are now on hold. While no lives were lost Monday night at the Parkway, the incident did reinforce an unfortunate new reality for Philadelphians: people are scared, and they do not feel safe. It’s Friday night — and game night — at the Oakland A’s RingCentral Coliseum, when a man lumbers over a Jersey barrier in the parking lot. “I just want to say, you do a freaking awesome job!” he yells, as he’s corralled by ballpark security. “Keep up the good work!” Was Ramon Laureano cleaning his cleats nearby? Not quite. The enthusiastic spectator’s attention is directed at 250 drones arranged in a grid on the pavement. In lieu of traditional fireworks after tonight’s game, the machines will ascend into the sky and reproduce icons from the “Star Wars” universe – Vader, the Death Star, that adorable green grub, Baby Yoda. This late-April game is one of several Oakland A’s events to feature a drone show (the next will be Aug. 27). “We are always looking for new experiences we can bring to the ballpark, and the drone light shows are a great addition to our lineup,” says A’s spokesperson Erica George. “Fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.” Managing tonight’s show is Rick Boss of Fort Worth-based Sky Elements with a team...
Kanye West's lawyer Samantha Spector has filed paperwork to withdraw from the rapper's divorce case from ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Spector cited an irreconcilable breakdown with the 44-year-old rapper, The Blast reported, citing court docs. An attorney from Pennsylvania (who is not a divorce lawyer) will represent the Grammy-winning artist in his split from Kardashian, 41, the outlet reported. Spector, who has previously represented celebs such as Amber Heard and Dr. Dre’s ex-wife Nicole Young, was hired by West earlier this year amid his acrimonious split with the reality star. The latest: Kanye West's lawyer Samantha Spector has filed paperwork to withdraw from the rapper's divorce case from ex-wife Kim Kardashian West brought Spector on his legal team in the wake of his public complaints that Kardashian had prevented him from seeing their children (North, eight, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three). Kardashian in February took to social media to explain her frustration with West's behavior in the wake of their split, after he publicly complained that their eldest child North had a TikTok account. Samantha Spector, who was the Yeezy fashion designer’s fourth lawyer, has filed documents to step down as his representation, The Blast reported Thursday. There are no other details as to why Spector has decided to depart the case other than listing “an irreconcilable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship” as the cause. Getty Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr. There’s an arms race in the AFC West and the Las Vegas Raiders are falling behind. The Denver Broncos pulled off a trade for Russell Wilson while the Los Angeles Chargers have landed All-Pro defenders in J.C. Jackson and Khalil Mack. It’s still early in the offseason but the Raiders haven’t done much of anything yet. Derek Carr is a good quarterback and some would argue that he’s one of the 10 best in the NFL. However, not many would argue against the notion that he’s the fourth-best in the division behind Wilson, Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes. New Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels likes Carr and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport previously reported that the plan was to move forward with him at quarterback. That was before Wilson joined the AFC West. There are teams like the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and more that are in desperate need of an upgrade at quarterback. Carr’s value on the trade market could be at an all-time high. Pro Football Focus’...

The resurgent Kansas City defense shut down Teddy Bridgewater and the Broncos, Daniel Sorenson returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown, and the Chiefs beat Denver 22-9 on Sunday night for their fifth straight win. Patrick Mahomes had 184 yards passing with a touchdown run and an interception for the Chiefs (8-4), who now lead the Chargers by a game and the Broncos and Raiders by two in their race for a sixth straight AFC West championship. And they didn't get a whole lot better when Bridgewater threw a pair of second-half interceptions, including the one that Sorensen picked off with 9 1/2 minutes left to put the game away. LONDON (AP) — Michail Antonio took advantage of Harry Kane’s defensive inadequacies to lead West Ham to a 1-0 home win against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday. Antonio got the better of his marker, Kane, at a corner in the 72nd minute and poked home his seventh goal of the season in all competitions. The win moves David Moyes’ side above Tottenham in the Premier League to fourth place. It was a fourth London derby defeat of the season for Tottenham, which has also lost to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal. The struggle for consistency is undermining any credible attempt to crack the top four for Champions League qualification in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first season in charge. ___ More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press. ARSENAL would have finished FOURTH without VAR this season. A SunSport study of all the decisions overturned by Stockley Park show the Gunners were the biggest “sufferers” from the system. 3 If all on-field original decisions had stuck, Mikel Arteta’s men would have earned four more points. That would have been enough to take them above Spurs, West Ham AND Chelsea and steal the final Champions League spot. Instead, Arsenal finished eighth and OUT of Europe for the first time since 1995-96. According to SunSport’s statistics, the final table would have shown a number of differences if VAR was not in operation. Liverpool, five points adrift of Manchester United in the actual table, would have swapped places with the Old Trafford side to take second, although still 13 points behind champions Manchester City. JESSE LINGARD put one over his old Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as he boosted West Ham’s top four hopes. The on-loan Red Devil scored what proved to be the decisive goal when he fired the Hammers 2-0 up at the start of the second half. 1Jesse Lingard leads the celebrations after putting West Ham 2-0 upCredit: Getty - Pool It gave Irons boss David Moyes his first win over Spurs chief Mourinho in 16 attempts. But, the hosts were made to fight all the way after Lucas Moura pulled one back for Tottenham. And Spurs went close to snatching a point when Gareth Bale hit the bar with a late shot. With goalless draws between these two a rarity - only two in the last 20 years - you had the feeling this would not be a stalemate. And so it proved as West Ham took just five minutes to open the scoring when Michail Antonio smashed in the rebound after Hugo Lloris had blocked his close-range touch from Jarrod Bowen’s wicked inswinging centre. The Hammers should have doubled...

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Jesse Lingard scored twice on his debut as West Ham beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday to maintain its push for a European place. Lingard, who joined on loan from Manchester United last week, played his first Premier League game since July but showed no signs of rust with his finishing. He made it 2-0 in the 56th minute after downing a cross from Michail Antonio on his chest and slotting in a low shot with his left foot from a tough angle. He then made it 3-1 in the 83rd after another assist from Antonio, although Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez probably should have kept out his shot from the right side of the area. Tomas Soucek opened the scoring as the Hammers clung on to fifth place ahead of Everton and they are now just two points behind Liverpool after the defending champion’s 1-0 home loss to Brighton. Villa, who slipped to a fourth league defeat in six games, remained ninth. Ollie Watkins had made it 2-1 in the...
