An Australian swimwear designer has faced criticism for saying she has lost weight recently because, as the face of 'body positivity' online, her fans felt as though she shouldn't be praising the change in her appearance. Moana Bikini owner Karina Irby, 32, has long been a proponent of loving yourself no matter your body size, frequently preaching to her followers that they shouldn't feel the need to edit their online photos and embrace their insecurities. But on Friday the dedicated businesswoman admitted to dropping some unwanted kilos over the past seven weeks because she was feeling sluggish and lacking energy.     'This is not my normal content, and I'm not here to promote weight loss specifically. This post goes deeper than that,' she said. Florida's Democratic Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried celebrated the end of the public transit mask mandate with a photo of her bare face on an airplane, while claiming that her party made that moment possible.  'Peace out to the TSA mask mandate, but also peace and respect to others, whether wearing a mask or not,' Fried, who is running to replace Gov. Ron DeSantis, wrote on Twitter, along with a photo of herself maskless.  'I'll read all your takes, but the mandates are dropped, vaccines are working, things are getting back to normal, and it's okay for a Democrat to say it — because we made it possible,' she wrote in a subsequent tweet. 'I love y'all.'   At the same time, Fried, Florida's lone statewide Democrat, is planning to sue the Biden administration over a federal rule that bans medical marijuana users from buying guns or maintaining concealed-carry permits.  Fried ran on an aggressively pro-cannabis platform in 2018. 'Medical marijuana is legal. Guns are legal. This is about people's rights and their freedoms to responsibly have both,' she wrote...

Dear Readers: Every year I step away from my column briefly to work on other creative projects. (Anyone interested in my personal essays and photographs can subscribe to my free newsletter: amydickinson.substack.com.) Amy Dickinson  I’ll be back next week. Today’s “best of” topic from 10 years ago is: “Going to the dogs.” Dear Amy: My sister recently lost her job. I let her and her 2½-year-old daughter, “Mariah,” move in with me while she gets on her feet. I have a 9-year-old toy poodle, and he’s gentle and great with children. The problems began when Mariah started biting the dog. My sister refuses to do anything about it. She says biting is a normal part of toddler-hood. A technology graduate suffered such an extreme allergic reaction to fillers that her lips ballooned 'eight times' their normal size - leaving her looking like a Monsters, Inc. character. Kailee Jones from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, got fillers for the first time in November last year, feeling that her lips were disproportionately small compared to the rest of her facial features. The 23-year-old got 1ml injected across her top and bottom lips and she says that within an hour of the appointment her lips began to swell rapidly. She believes she had an allergic reaction to the filler and says her attempts to calm the swelling with ice seemed to make it worse. The technology consultant then spent the next 48 hours unable to talk or drink normally due to the incredibly sore and swollen 'sausage lips'. Many of her pals pointed out that the swelling made her look like the character Fungus from the Disney Pixar film, Monsters, Inc. Kailee Jones, 23, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was self conscious about her lips and thought they were too thin and not in proportion with...
A toddler born with spina bifida who underwent spinal surgery while still inside her mother's womb has defied the odds and is now learning to walk. Lacey Grace Bower's parents, Michelle and Michael Bower, were urged to terminate her pregnancy when they received her diagnosis after her 20-week scan. But they ignored the advice and the youngster is already defying her prognosis at just 19-months-old - even learning to manoeuvre a custom tiny wheelchair. Michelle, 37, from West Lafayette, Indiana, said: 'We met with the doctor right after the scan and heard the words 'neural tube defect', 'lemon-shaped head' and 'spina bifida' to describe our daughter for the first time. A 392lbs mother who guzzled 'four litres of fizzy pop per day' has lost more than half her body weight - only to be left with so much excess skin that she still doesn't feel like she has a 'normal life'. Chessie Passmore, from Pontiac, Michigan, has recalled how severe teenage comfort eating after being bullied led to a 'weight rollercoaster' of failed diets following the birth of her children in 2006. The 36-year-old's addiction to bread, pasta and 12 cans of fizzy pop per day saw her reach a size 28 and face difficulties walking - even being warned she'd need a knee replacement before she was 40. In a last-ditch attempt to rescue her health the mother-of-two had a gastric band fitted which has seen her dramatically shrink from a size 28 to just a size eight since 2019. However her 238lbs weight loss has left her with folds of excess skin hanging from her stomach, resulting in continued mobility struggles and leaving her with a $35,000 bill for surgery to correct the issue, which she is crowdfunding...

A breastfeeding mother whose six-month-old daughter only likes to nurse from her right breast has revealed how her child's preferential treatment has left her with a totally lopsided chest - causing the favored boob to swell up and get hard, while the other looks like it has 'disappeared'.   Abbie Herbert, 25, opened up about the unique parenting problem in a now-viral TikTok video, where she jokingly pointed out that ending up with a wonky chest was not something she'd ever thought she would need to think about when it came to motherhood.   The proud mother and influencer welcomed her baby girl Poppy in May 2021 - and soon after, began to realize that her daughter had become very 'particular' about only nursing from her right breast.     Naturally, just like any new mom, she wanted to make her daughter happy, so she let her eat from the ride breast only. But when it started to grow much larger than the other, she was certainly in for a shock. Abbie Herbert, 25, let her baby eat from only her right boob, and...
An award-winning Irish author has defended her decision to turn down an offer to translate her new book into Hebrew saying she is 'responding to the call from Palestinian civil society', amid accusations of anti-Semitism.  Sally Rooney, 30, was asked by Israeli publisher Modan to translate her new book -Beautiful World, Where Are You - but the author allegedly rejected the request because she supports a cultural boycott of Israel. Miss Rooney's new book was released in September and topped book charts in the UK and Ireland. However it was later reported that the writer's views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict had seen her turn down a translation of her book from Modan. The row has sparked a wave of criticism against the author and screenwriter, whose book Normal People won a series of awards and was later adapted into a BBC TV drama.  Some took to social media to accuse Miss Rooney's decision as 'anti-Semitic', while others questioned why her books were published for an audience in China - which has been accused of human rights abuses over its treatment of Uighur Muslims.  But...

Dinner at fashion giant Tommy Hilfiger’s Mustique mansion was very civilised. Everyone sat on his beach eating steaks that had been specially flown in. Mick Jagger was there with one of his daughters and Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches. Hilfiger’s daughter had been telling me of a rehab place she knew, and that I could use Tommy’s private plane to fly there. It was just after Christmas 2007, and I’d come to the island to help my best friend, Amy Winehouse, get away from drugs. We were on the island as the guests of the singer Bryan Adams, staying in his stunning house surrounded by palm trees, powder-white sand and aquamarine ocean. But Amy had somehow smuggled drugs on to the flight, smoked them in our famous new friend’s beautiful home, and now they had run out. She was withdrawing and had been heavily sedated by a local doctor. That was how I found myself invited to dinner with the neighbours. People were asking about Amy. I tried to hold everything in but I got upset. It was Jagger who comforted...
A mother has revealed she spends at least two hours every day bathing her ten-month-old to treat a rare condition that causes her daughter's skin to grow up to 10 times faster than normal.  Carla Brown, 53, and her husband Paul, 55, from Chicago, adopted Hanna Rose, who was born with harlequin ichthyosis, a rare condition which causes thick plates to cover the body, in June 2020.   Within two weeks of returning home, Hanna was rushed to ICU with a bacterial infection and doctors warned Carla and Paul she wouldn't survive.  Despite the mortality rate for children with the condition being fifty percent for children under the age of one, Hanna defied the odds and returned to her family after 53 days in hospital.   But Carla said caring for her daughter at home can also be 'exhausting' at times, saying: 'She needs an hour-long bath twice per day and then has to be covered in skin care ointments every three hours day and night to sooth her dry, blistering skin.'  Carla Brown, 53, and husband Paul, 55, from Chicago,...

Kate Middleton may be married to the future king of England, but the queen consort to be is simply a busy mom of three behind palace doors, pals insist. Friends of the 38-year-old told People magazine in this week’s cover story that the Duchess of Cambridge's private life is completely different from what many people may imagine.  Instead, they described the wife of Prince William as a hands-on parent who does school drop-offs in her gym clothes and schedules date nights when not doting on her three children: Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2. "It’s a normal, busy family home with kids running around and knocking things over," an insider told the outlet. "There’s no airs and graces. When you see her behind closed doors with the children, she’s a very confident mom, and she’s no pushover. The children get told off if they act up."
