LeBron James says he was not bashing the United States by questioning the country's effort to bring imprisoned WNBA star Brittney Griner back from Russia, where she pleaded guilty to drug possession charges last week and now faces a decade behind bars. '[I] wasn't knocking our beautiful country,' the Los Angeles Lakers forward tweeted Tuesday. James took criticism after suggesting on a recent episode of his HBO show, The Shop, that Griner may not want to come back to the US due to a perceived lack of support from the Biden White House. Griner, who plays professionally in Russia during the WNBA offseason, was returning to the country in February, when police claim she was found in possession of cannabis oil at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport. 'She's been there over 110 days,' James said in the clip of the episode, which premieres Friday. 'Now, how could she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ''Do I even want to go back to America?''' With conservatives questioning James's loyalty to the US, the four-time NBA champion responded on...
Rich Fury/Getty Images The Los Angeles Lakers have been in the news for some time now as the team from Tinseltown is on the brink of not even making the play-in game after their sixth straight loss Sunday to the Denver Nuggets. The frustration from this lethargic season has amounted to on the court and off the court issues, including former players like Kareem Abdul-Jabber who was in attendance Sunday to watch his Lakers loss. Abdul-Jabbar was followed around by the media backstage prior to the game when he criticized fellow Laker LeBron James for his hesitance on certain socio-political issues. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says he’d be willing to meet Lakers’ LeBron James to discuss their differences on issues like vaccine advocacy: “I admire the things he’s done… Sending a whole school to college, wow, that’s amazing… Some of the things he’s done he should be embarrassed by.” pic.twitter.com/0QlNMNUXit — Ben Golliver (@BenGolliver) April 3, 2022 “Some of the things he’s done and said are really beneath him, as far as I can see,” Abdul-Jabbar said. Getty LeBron James at the 2022 NBA All-Star game. After a rocky first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James settled in with the team and grew to love them. He made that clear during and after the team’s championship run in 2020. It looked like a match made in heaven and that LeBron would finish up his career in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, there are real kinks in the armor that are starting to show. During the recent All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio, LeBron did everything he could to make the Lakers sweat. It’s now starting to look like the relationship between the two sides isn’t as strong as previously thought. A lot can happen between now and the end of the season but things aren’t great right now. Similar to the situation in Los Angeles, the Portland Trail Blazers could have to face a harsh reality with their superstar player. Damian Lillard has been as loyal as any player in the NBA. He’s made it clear that he loves Portland and wants to win a championship...
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said he is committed to making his final NBA season a family affair, expressing a desire to play with his son Bronny James.  The 37-year-old four-time NBA champion, in Cleveland for this weekend's All-Star Game, made the wholesome revelation during an interview with The Athletic published on Saturday.  'My last year will be played with my son,' James told the outlet. 'Wherever Bronny is at, that's where I'll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It's not about the money at that point.'  Bronny James is a 17-year-old junior at Sierra Canyon High School in the Los Angeles area. It means the 6-foot-2 guard will not be NBA eligible until the 2024-25 season  when his legendary father will be 39.  LeBron is under contract with the Lakers through the 2022-23 season, leading to speculation that he would just sign a one-year deal once his current contract expires and then be open to signing with whatever team he desires in 2024-25. LeBron has averaged 29.1 points...
In 2018, the Cleveland Cavaliers extended Kevin Love‘s contract through 2022. Three years later, it’s no longer clear where he fits on the rebuilding team. When the Cavaliers traded for Kevin Love in the summer of 2014, it was clear what the goal was. They wanted him to team up with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James to form an imposing trio that would be able to contend for championships and bring the city its first title since 1964. It worked. While they were only together for three seasons, they achieved their goal, making it to the Finals each year, winning it all in 2016. But just two years later, Love was the last man standing from that trio. In 2017, Irving, then as now, was eager to indulge his wildest whims, and requested a trade to escape LeBron’s ever-growing shadow. LeBron himself went to the Lakers the next summer, opting for the oceanside over the lakeshore. Just a few weeks after LeBron left Cleveland for the second time, the Cavaliers extended Love through 2022, adding four years and $120 million...

Forbes has released their annual list of the highest-paid NBA players of the year. Where do LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant rank? Starring in the NBA is an incredibly lucrative profession with salaries that often top $30 million for the best players in the league, and expensive endorsement deals layered on top. Each year, Forbes does their best to compile estimates for each player’s yearly earnings and rank the richest of the richest. The 2021 list is out and there are precious few surprises, with familiar names like Kevin Durant (No. 3) and Stephen Curry (No. 2) holding down the top spot. The list is especially interesting for the dynamics of endorsement deals and the way they can change the pecking order. For example, Forbes’ estimates that Giannis will make nearly four times as much in endorsements this year ($27 million versus $7 million). Giannis is also the only player outside the top three who is estimated to make more in endorsements than he will from his NBA contract. But all those numbers look increasingly silly when you...

Getty LeBron James, Lakers You’ve most likely heard the statistic by now: With the Lakers earning a spot in this year’s NBA Finals, LeBron James will have appeared in nine of the past 10 series to determine the winner of the Larry O’Brien Trophy. It’s an incredible run. But it also bears the question of what, exactly, James was doing last year when the Lakers failed to make the playoffs and the Raptors and Warriors were battling for the NBA title. The answer may surprise you: He was smoking it up at a hookah lounge. OK, he was not actually doing the smoking himself, and he did not watch every game at the lounge—he watched some of the series at home and some while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico—but he was hanging with some hookah for at least part of the series. “There were a couple games where I was at home,” James said on Saturday night. “There were a couple games where I was at home, there were a couple games where I was...

Fuller House actress Lori Loughlin was given the opportunity to handpick the facility where she’ll serve time for her role in a nationwide college admissions scandal, prompting a vitriolic response from Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James on Instagram. The four-time NBA MVP posted a screen capture of a Vanity Fair headline that stated she would be serving her two-month sentence at the prison “of her choice” and lamented her treatment in relation to that of people of color. “Of her what!!???” wrote James, after which he included a slew of laughing until crying emoji. “I’m laughing cause sometimes you have to just to stop from crying! Don’t make no damn sense to me. We just want the same treatment if [convicted] of same crime that’s all. Is that asking for [too] much??? Let me guess, it is huh. Yeah I know!! We’ll just keep pushing forward and not expecting the handouts!
