Max Strus made himself matter this season. That made his play a net gain for the Miami Heat. But, as with so many of the Heat’s developmental projects, the question next becomes how long he can continue to matter. For all of the Heat’s developmental projects over the years, many have come with expiration dates, with Duncan Robinson the latest concern in that regard. Previously, the Heat appeared on the verge of something special with Derrick Jones Jr., Chris Silva, even Tyler Johnson, among others. So for all the gains made by Strus, from two-way player a year ago to reserve for most of this past regular season to playoff starter, what ultimately will matter most is backing it up going forward. What could loom is the type of payoff received last summer by Duncan Robinson … or a pivot by coach Erik Spoelstra to the next man up (or even back to Robinson). All of which has Strus aware that there has to be more. “I’ve just got to be more complete,” said Strus, aware that the shelf life...
IN 1952, my late father, Woodrow Wyatt, who was then a Labour MP, received an invitation to attend the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2nd, 1953.  Aside from being a Member of Parliament, my father had acquired a degree of fame as a writer, broadcaster and bon vivant and had a circle of famous friends.  12The Queen with Prince Philip on the day of her coronationCredit: Getty 12Woodrow Wyatt MP, who kept a diary of the eventCredit: Alamy A diarist and inveterate letter writer, he left accounts of many great events that took place during his lifetime - the coronation was one of them. From his old journals and correspondence, I have put together his eye witness account of this historic occasion. It has never before been published, and is, to my knowledge, the longest and most vivid description of the coronation ceremony in existence.  October 1952 This morning I received a beautifully embossed invitation to the young Queen’s coronation, which is a terrific thrill.  READ MORE ON ROYAL FAMILYDON'T MEG HER OFF Dear Harry and Meghan,...

White House press secretary Jen Psaki reconfirmed that President Joe Biden will be attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner after news broke that his top medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci would skip the Saturday night event over COVID concerns. 'He has made the decision that he wants to attend, in a safe way, the White House Correspondents' Dinner to show his support, showcase his support for a free press,' Psaki said Wednesday, noting the particular importance of reporters' coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. She continued that it was important to Biden to show, after former President Donald Trump skipped the media dinner during his one term. 'That does stand in stark constrast to his predecessor, who not only questioned the legitimacy of the press on a nearly daily basis, but also never attended the dinner, I don't believe,' the press secretary added. 'So he felt that was important and made a risk assessment to do that in consultation with his doctors and healthcare team.' Psaki added that the president will take additional precautions including possibly wearing a...
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) claimed Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) “wanted” to be forced out of her House Republican leadership position because of her vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump. Christie was on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, where the conversation revolved around Trump maintaining his power and influence over the GOP. Christie was asked for his thoughts, as Politico’s Laura Barrón-López noted how Cheney and Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) “seem to have no place in this party” since both of them are prominent Trump critics. Christie began his response by saying most of the Republican Party isn’t concerned with the D.C.-insider politics compared to the decisions of primary voters. “Look, my view has always been Liz Cheney wanted to be kicked out,” he continued. “Remember, the first time she made the statements she made, she was re-elected to her leadership position. It’s only when she continued after that. That looks like somebody who wanted to make a point and wanted to be kicked out.” Jon Karl interjected at that point to say “the point she’s making...
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — Docked at San Francisco’s Pier 45 is a 441-foot-long, navy gray, hulking monument to World War II. The SS Jeremiah O’Brien has beaten the odds to survive these nearly 80 years since a historic battle. The ship’s most recent brush with Davy Jones’ locker came the night of May 23rd, 2020. A huge fire had engulfed a warehouse on the pier, putting the O’Brien in grave danger. Flames silhouetted the cargo and transport ship, eerily reminiscent of its battle-tested days at the beaches of Normandy, France. A heavily-armed Taliban fighter stood eye to eye with Aman Khalili, suspiciously scrutinizing the former US forces interpreter who helped Joe Biden's 2008 rescue in a bleak snow-filled valley in Afghanistan. As the fanatic flicked through mugshots on his cell phone, Khalili knew that if his face popped up, he was dead, and his wife Amina and five of their children traveling with him would probably be killed as well. He was a hunted man who would be a trophy for the new regime that swept up the country in the wake of President Joe Biden's chaotic withdrawal. But after a few terrifying seconds, the fighter moved on to another passenger on their bus which had been stopped at a Taliban checkpoint on its route from the city of Kandahar to blood-soaked Helmand Province. Khalili, 51, slowly breathed in relief. Yet this was just one of the harrowing moments in the interpreter's incredible escape with his family from Afghanistan after appealing to President Biden: 'I helped you, I need your help.' DailyMail.com can now reveal astonishing details of that journey...

The White House is preparing to make "choices" as congressional Democrats start chipping away at President Joe Biden's $3.5 trillion social welfare and climate pitch to make it cheaper for centrist members of their party. "We are at a point where there are choices that need to be made," White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday. Psaki seemed confident that Democrats could agree on "something historic." But she admitted negotiations were not at the stage in which centrist Sens. Hundreds of contestants are rounded up and forced by sinister men in hoods and masks to play a series of children's games in a giant playroom, where the forfeit for losing is instant death. No wonder the police have trouble believing what a would-be whistleblower tells them he has witnessed.  'I know it sounds crazy,' he says, as they ask themselves whether he has been taking his medication. What also sounds crazy is that this is the plot of a South Korean TV series which is sweeping all before it in the battle for global eyeballs. Ted Sarandos, head of the streaming giant Netflix, has confirmed that Squid Game is expected to become the biggest programme the network has ever shown. 'We didn't see that coming,' he said this week. But who did? Since it was released on September 17, the nine-part series has gone viral across the world. The phrase 'jumped the shark' originated from an episode of hit '70s comedy TV show Happy Days when The Fonz inexplicably stopped being the world's coolest dude and jumped over a caged shark on water-skis. The excruciating scene became synonymous with anything that was once popular and deemed 'cool' but suddenly loses relevance after a woefully misguided attempt at generating publicity or attention spectacularly backfires. As I perused all the coverage from last night's Met Gala, never have the words 'jumped the shark' seemed more ironically relevant. Where do I even start with this towering monument to hilarious hypocrisy and horrifically hideous 'haute couture'? Well, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seems a good place for an opening salvo. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has spent the past few years lecturing the entire world on the planet-ending evils of materialistic, vacuous, obscenely ostentatious capitalism. An investor who made $20 billion betting on a housing crash ahead of the 2008 financial crisis believes cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are a 'worthless bubble' and encourages people to invest in gold in light of coming inflation. John Paulson, 65, made the comments on an episode of Bloomberg Wealth with David Rubenstein published Sunday.  He said he avoids the 'volatile' crypto market and encouraged people to put their money in gold because it does well in times of inflation, which may soon worsen as the country slowly recovers from last year's COVID-19 economic shutdown. The 25 greatest Jimmy Stewart films Quiz: Do You Have What It Takes To Start a Business? LAKE FOREST, Ill. — If Justin Fields is indeed the Chicago Bears’ quarterback savior, the man who can give this 101-year-old franchise its first legit star QB since Sid Luckman (who died eight months before Fields was born), he’s gonna have to wait. And we must wait, too. The trade up for Fields in Round 1 of the 2021 NFL draft felt like the kind of thing even the most optimistic Bears fan wouldn’t have gotten their hopes up for. Even in a five-QB first round, the Bears were picking far back (No. 20 overall), weren’t teeming with assets to move up, and had free-agent signing Andy Dalton as insurance if the chips didn’t fall right. When he sees something he really wants, Bears general manager Ryan Pace has shown a propensity to be aggressive in getting it, even if the results — Mitch Trubisky, namely — haven’t always added up as expected.  But Pace landed Fields, and did so without giving...

What’s in a name? Well, if you are eighth in line to the British throne, a great deal indeed. I always felt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would choose Diana for their first daughter – after all, so much of Prince Harry’s life has been defined by the memory of his mother. But what I – and I suspect many others – had not anticipated was the choice of the Queen’s childhood nickname, Lilibet. On the surface of it, I can see the attraction. It is such a very pretty name, despite the fact it’s not a real one. It conjures up images of a young Princess Elizabeth, of grainy black and white pictures of granny as a bonneted toddler, and of intimate family memories. It has fond connotations for all the royals, even more so perhaps since the Duke of Edinburgh passed away earlier this year – this was a nickname he used for the Queen. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are joined by her mother, Doria Ragland, when they introduced Archie to the Queen and...

Frazier, now 18, said she had been walking with her 9-year-old cousin near Cup Foods when Floyd was arrested. She recorded the arrest on her phone, and protests broke out worldwide soon after her video went viral. Soon thereafter, the police involved were fired and charged, and now, a federal police reform bill named in Floyd's honor is ready to be weighed by the Senate.    "I witnessed a murder," she said. "...Although this wasn't the first time I've seen a Black man...
Phil Mickelson has delivered so many thrills and spills over 30 years of pure theater that no one ever knows what he will do next. His latest act was a real stunner: A major champion at age 50. Mickelson captured his sixth major and by far the most surprising Sunday at the PGA Championship. He made two early birdies with that magical wedge game and let a cast of contenders fall too far behind to catch him in the shifting wind of Kiawah Island. He closed with a 1-over 73, building a five-shot lead on the back nine and not making any critical mistakes that kept him from his place in history. Julius Boros for 53 years held the distinction of golfs oldest major champion. He was 48 when he won the 1968 PGA Championship in San Antonio. Pure chaos broke out along the 18th hole after Mickelson hit 9-iron safely to just outside 15 feet that all but secured a most improbable victory. Thousands of fans engulfed him down the fairway — a scene typically seen only at the...
(CNN)Two college students in California had to be rescued from the Pacific Ocean this weekend when they floated too far from the shore in a homemade boat, according to police. The duo set sail from Isla Vista at 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Santa Barbara County Fire. Their boat consisted of two connected kiddie pools on top of some sort of board, with 20 five-gallon plastic buckets fastened on the bottom. "They were not engineering students," said Mike Eliason, spokesperson for Santa Barbara County Fire. The men, who are in their early 20s, did have an oar but it was no match for the ocean, said Eliason. He added seas were calm, but the water temperature was in the 50s, and the two men weren't wearing wetsuits. The men were about 300 yards offshore when crews went out on paddleboards and personal watercraft to rescue them, Eliason said.Read MoreAlcohol was not a factor, the fire department said."Still curious as to why they decided to do this at 2 o'clock in the morning," said Eliason. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene but there were...
Norwegian health regulators say Covid vaccines made by AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson should only be offered to people who volunteer for the shots.  The country's Institute for Public Health recommended neither should routinely be used because of 'serious side effects', with both jabs linked to a tiny risk of suffering serious blood clots.  But Norway's advisory committee claimed the vaccines should be made available for people willing to accept the risk. Government officials are set to make a final decision later today. Data on clots has spooked health chiefs across Europe, with Denmark stopping the use of the jab completely and other nations restricting its use to older age groups.  Britain has already recommended all under-40s should be offered an alternative to the Oxford-made jab — but only because infection rates are so low. UK health chiefs say the benefits of the two-dose jab for younger adults, who rarely get very ill with Covid, no longer clearly outweighs the risks.   Regulators say the risk of suffering a blood clot after the jab is vanishingly small, but is higher in...
Pete Davidson interviewed Jake Paul before his boxing match. Triller Pete Davidson interviewed Jake Paul before his boxing match with Ben Askren. The interview was censored when broadcast, which led many people to speculate what was said. Before the fight, a sexual assault allegation made against Paul made headlines. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Before YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul knocked out former MMA champion Ben Askren in under two minutes, he took part in an awkward locker-room interview with Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson. Davidson roasted Paul in a pre-fight monologue on Saturday at the Triller Fight Club event in Atlanta, but seemed much friendlier in person. After greeting one another, Davidson joked that Paul reminded him of "Charlie Sheen when he went on his winning tirade" — referencing Sheen's notorious string of interviews in which he claimed to have "tiger blood and Adonis DNA." A few seconds into the interview, Davidson's audio cut out, leaving the viewers to speculate about what he said. When the audio returned, Paul can be heard responding, "bro, you can't joke...
Mitch McConnell. Apparently Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s threat to corporations to “stay out of politics” didn’t have the result he intended. Big business seems to be getting more serious about pushing back as Republicans continue to push voter suppression measures in states across the country. More than 100 top corporate executives joined a Zoom call Saturday to discuss how to apply pressure against such legislation, The Washington Post reports. Companies represented included Delta, American, United, Starbucks, Target, LinkedIn, Levi Strauss, and Boston Consulting Group, as well as Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, the Post reports, and the discussion included “potential ways to show they opposed the legislation, including by halting donations to politicians who support the bills and even delaying investments in states that pass the restrictive measures.” The call, which lasted over an hour, “shows they are not intimidated by the flak. They are not going to be cowed,” according to one of its organizers, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a Yale management professor. “They felt very strongly that these voting restrictions are based on a flawed premise and are dangerous.” That “flawed premise” is in fact Donald...
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — This was not the title defense Rory McIlroy had in mind for this week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. McIlroy, the 2019 winner of the tournament, which was canceled after one round last year because of COVID-19, missed the cut after shooting 10-over for the past two days — a 79 on Thursday and a 75 Friday. After his round, McIlroy, always among the most transparent athletes in any sport, conceded he might have messed up his swing in an attempt to chase Bryson DeChambeau and his new-found length. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t anything to do with what Bryson did at the U.S. Open,’’ McIlroy said. “I think a lot of people saw that and were like, ‘Whoa, if this is the way they’re going to set golf courses up in the future, it helps.’ “The one thing that people don’t appreciate is how good Bryson is out of the rough,’’ McIlroy said. “Not only because of how upright he is, but because his short irons are longer than standard,...

PRESIDENT Biden reportedly supports making the $3,600 payments to parents, included in the latest Covid relief package, permanent. The president told House Democrats on Wednesday that he supports legislation that would keep the expanded child tax credits around for good. 3President Biden reportedly supports a permanent expanded child tax creditCredit: Reuters As of now, the expanded tax credit is just a one-year measure included in the $1.9trillion Covid relief package, which is currently awaiting Senate approval. The emergency provision would provide up to $3,600 per child to parents with kids ages 5 and under, and up to $3,000 to parents with children between the ages of 6 and 17. Similar to how stimulus checks will work, the payment would begin to phase out for people who make more than $75,000 and couples who make more than $150,000. Researchers at Columbia University estimated that the measure, along with other elements of the relief package, could cut the child poverty rate in the US in half. However, making the child tax credit permanent is likely to be met with backlash from...
Following George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody, demonstrators protest on June 6, 2020, in Columbia, South Carolina. A white South Carolina sergeant is accused of using minor traffic infractions to harass 21 Black residents, and the city’s mayor is attempting to explain away the sergeant’s actions. A woman told the Lancaster City Council on February 9 that Sgt. Pete Beck pulled over her son multiple times in a few weeks, according to Fox 46. “He said something about his light on the car, so Beck pulled him over, made my son get out the car search him, search the car,” said the woman, who wasn’t named in the news station’s article. “So I’m trying to figure out why did you search him, why did you make him get out of the car, you didn’t smell no kind of weed, no drugs or nothing so what was the reason for you doing that?” As if it justifies alleged instances of racial profiling, Lancaster Mayor Alston DeVenny explained that the city employs a methodology that's been utilized in the community for about 30 years....

Prince Harry faces another clash with Buckingham Palace after friends insisted he would 'fight' to keep his honorary military positions. The sixth in line to the throne still holds three titles with the Armed Forces which the Queen agreed to keep open for him pending a 12-month review of his and Meghan's decision to quit as working royals. It is one of the few remaining issues yet to be resolved after last year's acrimonious 'Megxit'. However, sources close to the Duke of Sussex this week pre-empted those discussions, insisting he is 'determined' to hang on to the positions despite stepping down from royal duties in favour of a lucrative commercial career in the US in late March 2020. Prince Harry faces another clash with Buckingham Palace after friends insisted he would 'fight' to keep his three honorary military positions But last night senior royal aides made clear to the Daily Mail that Buckingham Palace's view – that it is impossible for Harry or Meghan to have any kind of 'half-in, half-out' royal role – has not changed either.
