There was an odd moment at Tuesday’s White House daily briefing when a reporter noted Monday night’s memorial to the 500,000 Americans killed by the coronavirus, but then asked what else the administration was thinking of doing to honor the dead. President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff participated in a moving ceremony Monday night to mark the grim milestone, during which President Biden spoke poignantly about the loss of life so far. That apparently wasn’t enough for one reporter, the AP’s Josh Boak, who asked Press Secretary Jen Psaki, “You’ve been asked repeatedly about how we should properly memorialize the deaths from the coronavirus, after last night’s service, has this administration given any more thought in terms of how to honor the dead?” “Well first, I don’t know, I watched last night and I’m pretty, you know, I’ve seen a lot of presidential events and I found myself getting choked up when I watched the events happening on the television screen in my office last night,” Psaki said. She went...
Chadwick Boseman passed away on August 28, leaving the future of the Black Panther saga up in the air. The actor was scheduled to reprise his role as T’Challa in the sequel, but his death has forced Marvel to radically change plans for the new film. “Much of the comics and the first movie takes place in the world of Wakanda,” Kevin Feige told Deadline. “Wakanda is a place to explore further with characters and different subcultures. This was always the case and initially it was the main focus of the next story, “he said. “We are not going to include Chadwick for CGI and we are not going to modify the casting of T’Challa. Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect, love and genius that he has, which gives us great consolation, which is why he always tried to promote the mythology and inspiration of Wakanda. There is also the task of honoring and respecting Chad’s learnings and teachings, ”he said. Before Feige’s statements, Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso has already...

San Antonio – A San Antonio man has dedicated several months to cleaning and revitalizing some of San Antonio’s oldest gravestones. This man, who asked not to be identified, has cleaned at least 400 gravestones in the San Fernando Cemetery #2 since last May. He said there is a reason why he wanted to remain anonymous. “I am a good son of the church, so I want this to be for the greater glory of God,” said the man. “When I am doing this, I also want this to be about the people and their stories. I have no special talent for this or anything, it is just something I enjoy doing.” Some of the gravestones he’s cleaned are at least 100-years-old. “It is a very historic, beautiful place,” said the man. “I have a lot of family members buried there. Following the passing of a high-profile figure, there are two similar commemorations at the Capitol that have one key difference: government and military figures lie in state while private citizens lie in honor. The phrases can also be used to describe similar ceremonies at state capitols and other government buildings.Sen. Henry Clay was the first person to lie in state in the rotunda on July 1, 1852. In the years since, only a select few Americans have joined the ranks of those honored in the rotunda. The list of those to lie in state or honor includes presidents like Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, legislators like John McCain and Daniel Inouye, military figures like Douglas MacArthur and various other "eminent citizens" like Rosa Parks and Billy Graham. This week, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will become the first woman the lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. After raising questions about the police-involved shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis., Fox News contributor Trey Gowdy on Wednesday blasted congressional Democrats for refusing to compromise with Republicans on a police reform bill. “My first question would be why can’t we do what Blake’s mom asked us to do? She’s asked for prayers whether you believe in them or not, pray for her son’s help, pray for the community, she’s asked for unity,” Gowdy told “Outnumbered.” “She’s asked for answers,” Gowdy said. Gowdy wants there to be an “inventory search of the car” that Blake was going into, prompting the cop to fire seven times at him. “What was in the car that he was trying to get into. Then, I want to know if there is any audio. I’ve seen the video – the video is damning. The video makes me conclude that this was a bad shoot. A criminal shoot. But, I want to know if there is audio. My third thing I want to know is what happened leading up to it, but that's less important,” Gowdy said....

The defining elements of President Trump’s foreign policy posture toward Africa, its diaspora and other communities of color have mirrored his domestic posture. Trump failed to engage them in positive and constructive ways and consistently called into question the intelligence, legitimacy, worthiness of millions of people at home and abroad.  Read More: How American racism changed the map of Africa In this way, he has summoned America’s historic hostility to those it seeks to exclude and degrade. Empowering many U.S. political leaders and everyday citizens to follow suit, and providing political cover for foreign autocrats already hell-bent on doing the same. Despite launching what was touted as his New Africa Strategy in 2018, President Trump has favored inserting his idea of Africa into domestic “culture wars” rather than engaging the continent constructively.
