Brian Kelly challenges LSU football wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to be the best in the game. Not to say there is trouble brewing within Brian Kelly’s LSU football family, but he is just getting started when it comes to firing up Kayshon Boutte ahead of their first season working together. Kelly may be a fish out of water in SEC country, but the man knows how to win, and win big. LSU is one of the best programs in the nation. While it may take some time for Kelly to figure out how to recruit the talent-rich state of Louisiana, it starts with getting his best player ready for the season ahead. He used the media to challenge Boutte to go out and be the best wide receiver in the land. “You can see his potential,” said Kelly about Boutte. “Can he be the best receiver in the country? I think he can be. But he’s going to have to go out and do it.” Brian Kelly on Kayshon Boutte: “You can see his potential. Can he be the best receiver...

As a complete shock seemingly everyone, Brian Kelly actually left Notre Dame for the opportunity to lead the LSU football team this past offseason. Kelly has won everywhere he has been a multiple levels of college football. He had Notre Dame in its best spot as a program since the peak Lou Holtz days. However, the Fighting Irish were always up against it when it came to seriously competing for national titles under the current landscape. For that reason, it was understandable why he left South Bend. Baton Rouge was calling for him. If the Bayou Bengals have a strong first year under Kelly, they will have answered these questions.LSU football: 3 major offseason questions the Tigers will have to answer3. On the heels of back-to-back losses, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron confirmed with reporters that wide receiver Kayshon Boutte suffered a season-ending injury against Kentucky over the weekend. That catch was his 38th of the year to go with 509 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2020, Boutte caught 45 passes for 735 yards and five scores. In addition to Boutte, Orgeron also said Monday that defensive end Ali Gaye, defensive back Major Burns and defensive tackle Joseph Evans will be sidelined when the Tigers host Florida on Saturday. Just to recap, Orgeron has already confirmed #LSU will be...
The LSU football team suffered a tough loss with Kayshon Boutte being carted off the field. LSU football star Kayshon Boutte had to leave the game on a cart after suffering a leg injury. While it unknown what type of leg injury the talented wide receiver suffered, it came in another crushing defeat for the Bayou Bengals. They are now 3-3 on the season after getting stomped by the 6-0 Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington. Head coach Ed Orgeron could lose his job as early as this weekend after a terrible loss to Kentucky. As for Boutte, let’s hope he did not rip any sinew here. This is a lost season for LSU. Kayshon Boutte is leaving the game on a cart now. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — After a turbulent 2020 that saw LSU narrowly avoid its first losing record since 1999, the Tigers are garnering considerable preseason respect with a No. 16 national ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll. The reasons stem from the number of experienced regulars returning, sophomore quarterback Max Johnson’s continued progress and coach Ed Orgeron’s decision to hire new offensive and defensive coordinators. “We know that we have to be lot better than we were last year,” Orgeron said, adding that “there’s a little chip on my shoulder,” and those of his players. “Last year was not who we are,” added Johnson, son of former NFL QB Brad Johnson. “We’re excited about this year.” After a competitive loss at Texas A&M last November dropped LSU to 3-5 and one loss from a losing season, the Tigers finished with victories over Florida and Mississippi in Johnson’s first career starts to go 5-5. Returning All-America cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. said those victories sent LSU into spring practice with momentum, confidence and greater team chemistry. “We’re...
Kayshon Boutte, LSU Tigers. (Mandatory Credit: Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports) If anybody in the SEC is poised to have a bounce-back year, it has to be the LSU football team. Now two years removed from winning the College Football Playoff, the LSU football program has to yield better than a .500 football team this season. While the Bayou Bengals did lose a ton of talent in the 2020 NFL Draft, it is not like they have struggled in the recruiting department. This is head coach Ed Orgeron’s specialty, bringing in blue-chip talent from all over the southeastern footprint. Though LSU does not have to win the West this year, the Tigers must be several wins better than a season ago. LSU football has found its next superstar wide receiver with Kayshon Boutte going off in the Tigers spring game and making a touchdown catch Odell Beckham Jr. would be proud of. Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall are no longer at LSU but the Tigers have found their next superstar wide receiver in the form of Kayshon Boutte. At the LSU football spring game on Saturday, Boutte and Myles Brennan demonstrated a connection Tigers fans are hoping they’ll connect many times over in the fall. While last year was a season to forget for LSU football, the spring game suggests Ed Orgeron’s team could be back to competing for an SEC championship. GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man accused of fatally shooting a sheriff’s deputy last month was arrested Tuesday and charged with capital murder. Joseph Michael Rohrbacker, 30, was taken into custody without incident by special agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Feb. 1 shooting death of Lt. Michael Boutte, according to an agency statement. Until he was taken into custody, Rohrbacker had been receiving treatment at a Louisiana hospital for wounds sustained in the shooting, officials said. He is being held at a detention center in Gulfport, Mississippi, near the state line with Louisiana. Rohrbacker is accused of shooting Boutte as he tried to get out of his vehicle near a Hancock County home where authorities were responding to an attempted suicide call. Rohrbacker fired at a second responding deputy who returned fire and wounded him, Sheriff Ricky Adam said at the time. Boutte was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital and later pronounced dead. He was an Air Force veteran who had been in law enforcement for eight years and had been...
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. A private graveside service will be held later in the day. The procession — expected to last an hour and stretch for miles — will go down Highway 90 through Harrison County. It will feature law enforcement officers, fire trucks holding large flags over the highway and several students lining up along one of the roadways. Boutte was killed Feb. 1 while responding to a call of an attempted suicide, shot as he tried to get out of his vehicle near a home in Hancock County, authorities said. The suspect then fired at a second responding deputy who returned fire and wounded the suspect, according to officials. Boutte was an Air Force veteran who...

Freshman receiver Kayshon Boutte caught 14 passes for an LSU-record 308 yards receiving, and his third touchdown of the game on a 45-yard catch-and-run with 1:30 remaining lifted the Tigers to a 53-48 victory over Mississippi on Saturday. Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral quickly drove the Rebels into LSU territory in the final minute, but his sixth turnover of the game on a fumble caused by Ali Gaye ended the threat and allowed the Tigers (5-5) to avoid their first losing season since 1999. Freshman LSU QB Max Johnson, who won his first career start in stunning fashion at Florida a week earlier, passed for 435 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson also scored on 1-yard keepers in the second and fourth quarters. LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line on his long reception, and the refs let it stand for some reason. As sports fans, you’re all subject to one play that gets you so angry that you decided to send your remote control on a trip from the couch to the living room wall. We expect that was the reaction from Alabama Crimson Tide fans on Saturday evening. Alabama had an early 21-0 lead over the rival LSU Tigers, but the shutout ended in horrific circumstances. LSU quarterback T.J. Finney hit receiver Kayshon Boutte on a deep pass along the left sidelines, and supposedly going in for the touchdown. The problem was that Boutte actually dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line. Even after a replay, the SEC referees assigned to that game determined that it was a touchdown, even though it wasn’t.LSU gets lucky this fumble was ruled a [email protected] discusses LSUs touchdown following an immediate recovery in the end zone. pic.twitter.com/lBaQaLlQ8E — CBS Sports (@CBSSports) December 6, 2020 After...
SEC officials missed a call that allowed LSU to score a touchdown despite the receiver clearly dropping the ball before crossing the goal line. Kayshon Boutte dropped the ball before crossing the goal line but the SEC officials took pity on LSU and let the play stand nonetheless. Why? Who knows but the only logical explanation for this illogical decision is that they had their eyes on something else and completely missed the fumble. The play stood with Jontre Kirklin quickly picking up the fumble so that’s why the SEC officials let the play stand. The official scoring will have to credit Kirklin for the touchdown and Boutte will likely have to run the stadium as a form of punishment so he never does something that dumb again. Naturally, it didn’t look that good in real-time and Twitter was full of jokes. By MARIA CLARK, USA Today/The American South FRANKLIN, La. (AP) — Along the Bayou Teche, a 135-mile waterway that stretches out from the Mississippi River, the warm late September air buzzed with the sounds of mosquitoes and crickets. Daylight dwindled as a small group of mask-clad people followed tour guide Steven Mora to the edge of the bayou in Franklin, Louisiana. Mora took several socially-distanced steps away from his guests. He safely raised the clear plastic face shield and began the first in a series of haunted tours he would lead in this quiet 200-year-old city. Any other year and the tour would have been markedly different. It certainly wouldn’t have begun with no contact temperature readings, face mask requirements and reminders to stay 6-feet-apart. Steven Mora does a no-contact temperature check of guest Glyn Bradley ahead of allegedly haunted locations in Franklin, LA. Mora and his partner Chad Boutte, own and operate a small tour company based in New Orleans called Tours by Steven, where since 2014, they’ve led walking tours through historic neighborhoods across the city. Last year,...
