Luis’ two:

latest news at page 1:
Luis Robert looked to jump-start the Chicago White Sox offense in the sixth inning of a scoreless game Friday against the Detroit Tigers, attempting to steal second base. Robert slid headfirst but didn’t get to the bag as he made contact with the left leg of second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who was trying to make a tag. Robert twisted and lay on his back in pain. After being checked out by the training staff, he exiting with a sprained left wrist. X-rays were negative, the Sox said Friday. Robert’s status remained day to day, manager Tony La Russa said before Saturday’s game against the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. “He said it felt tight, some soreness,” La Russa said. AJ Pollock shifted to center field with Robert not in Saturday’s starting lineup. It was another day of juggling for the Sox, who have dealt with injuries throughout this season. Leury García returned to shortstop after missing the previous three games because of hip and back soreness. García is filling in for Tim Anderson, who went on the injured list Tuesday...

(Photo by Justin Casterline/Getty Images) The New York Yankees traded for outfielder Andrew Benintendi on Wednesday … but they need to do more. The New York Yankees finally addressed their left field hole by trading for Kansas City Royals All-Star left fielder Andrew Benintendi for three low-level minor league pitchers. Benintendi will replace Joey Gallo and his bat (or lack thereof) in left field. While that was a much-needed move, the Yankees need to make at least three more trades before the trade deadline on August 2. 1) Trade for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis CastilloWith Luis Severino hitting the injured list once again with a lat strain, the Yankees’ rotation is in a bit of hurt. Luis Severino has seemingly turned back the clock. After three frustrating seasons basically lost to injuries, the right-hander has reminded everyone in baseball that he was once considered the Yankees’ ace and a Cy Young contender. Now, the Yankees have to try to keep him that way. Though they have played down the idea of innings limits, the Bombers are actively managing his workload, and that will become even more apparent in the second half of the season. Severino was lined up to pitch on Tuesday night, but the Yankees pushed him back. Gerrit Cole took the ball in the series opener against the Reds, meaning he would be the one who gets two starts this week heading into the All-Star break. That limits Severino and Nestor Cotes as they head into the break. “We’ve done it a little bit already. Bumping Sevy back here to Wednesday prevents him from making two more before the break. We’ll slot him in on that weekend probably in Baltimore, probably do the same with Nestor,” Aaron Boone said. “They’ll probably go to the...
NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Verlander pitched two-hit ball for eight innings, light-hitting backup catcher Jason Castro lined a two-run homer in the ninth and the Houston Astros beat the Mets 2-0 Wednesday to send New York to its first three-game losing streak this season. Astros left fielder Yordan Álvarez and shortstop Jeremy Peña were hurt when they collided in the eighth while running down Dominic Smith’s popup. Both called for the ball and as Peña caught the pop, and they hit each other in the face with their gloves. Álvarez was removed on a cart, sitting up, and Peña walked back to the dugout during the eight-minute delay. Verlander (10-3) became the major leagues’ first 10-game winner, striking out six and walking one. The 39-year-old right-hander, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, has a 2.03 ERA this year in his return from Tommy John surgery. Ryan Pressly pitched a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 19 chances, finishing the Astros’ second two-game sweep of the Mets in a nine-day span. Taijuan Walker allowed four hits in a season-high...
It was the definition of a no-doubter. Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert crushed Oliver Ortega’s fifth-inning fastball, sending it 448 feet for a two-run home run. The blast gave the Sox the lead on the way to an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in front of 23,979 at Angel Stadium. “It wasn’t as important for the distance, it was important because of the moment of the game,” Robert said through an interpreter. The Sox scored five runs in the fifth and five more in the seventh. They finished with 17 hits, three by Robert. He hit the second two-run homer in the fifth after Josh Harrison’s shot against Angels starter Chase Silseth tied the game at 3. “Got into a good count, 3-1, saw the ball pretty well and just got a pitch (and) didn’t miss it,” Harrison said. “Been feeling pretty good at the plate, getting my rhythm and timing. Putting good swings on good pitches.” Ortega entered and allowed a single to Tim Anderson, the fourth straight Sox hit in the inning. Two batters...
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Big league batting leader Luis Arraez hit his first career grand slam and the Minnesota Twins spoiled Shane Baz’s season debut, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5 on Saturday. Arraez got at least three hits for the seventh time this season, raising his average to .367. He has three home runs this year, including two in the last three games. READ MORE: 'March For Our Lives' Protesters Demand Lawmakers Take Action Against Gun ViolenceArraez homered as part of a five-run third inning against Baz (0-1), Tampa Bay’s top pitching prospect who returned after elbow surgery in March. Baz allowed five runs in 2 1/3 innings on three hits and three walks. Trevor Megill (2-1), one of five Twins relievers who each pitched a scoreless inning, worked the fifth. Emilio Pagán earned his eighth save as the Twins took the first two games of the series. Baz, who made four strong rehab starts with Triple-A Durham, looked crisp early with two perfect innings before running into trouble in the third. Gilbert Celestino led off with a single and...
ST. PETERSBURG — Luis Severino was a big question mark coming into this season. He spent the past three years basically trying to get back on the mound after significant injuries. Even the 28-year old was not sure how he would feel and hold up this year, his first coming into the year totally healthy since 2019. “I feel pretty great. Even me, I didn’t know I was going to be, but I feel awesome,” Severino said Sunday after taking his first loss since 2019. “I’m doing my work between starts, every five days or every six days. When they gave me one extra day. I feel pretty good.” He’s looked very good—even in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Rays. Severino allowed a season-high tying four earned runs, but allowed just two hits. He walked two and struck out eight. The right-hander threw a season-high 103 pitches and got 22 swings-and-misses, pretty evenly spread out between his four-seam fastball and his changeup. The problem for the Yankees and Severino was that the two hits were homers. Ji-Man Choi homered off...
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees were beatable, after all. The Rays rallied again on Sunday to hand the Bombers their second straight loss behind a home run and tough defense from Taylor Walls, who predicted the outcome on Thursday. Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres each homered for the Yankees only offense in the 4-2 loss at Tropicana Field. The Yankees (33-15) lost their second straight game and the Rays (28-19) rallied after losing the first two games of the series to split the four-game set. The Rays got only two hits off Luis Severino and the Yankees bullpen. It was all they needed, both hits were home runs. Ji-Man Choi homered off Severino in the second inning. Walls, who reacted to Thursday night’s loss to the Yankees by saying they are “very beatable,” homered to give the Rays the lead in the fifth. It was the first time this season Severino has allowed more than one homer in a game. Severino, however, walked Wander Franco and Choi to lead off the seventh inning and was charged with those runs...

Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert could be out for the entire five-game homestand after being placed on the COVID-19-related injured list Tuesday. “Unfortunately, he is suffering from mild COVID symptoms,” Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. “The good news is he is vaccinated, so hopefully his experience is relatively mild throughout and we have him back at some point, very possibly next week. “Certainly he’s not going to play in the Boston series (that started Tuesday) and very likely not going to play against the Cubs this weekend.” Robert is slashing .285/.319/.438 with three doubles, six home runs, 17 RBIs, six stolen bases and 21 runs in 33 games. He leads the Sox in homers and is second in RBIs, runs, stolen bases and total bases (60). “He’s so much fun to watch,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said. “Really hope for us and for our fans that it’s the quick one and we get him back in five or six days.” Adam Engel started in center field Tuesday. The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees were tied in the bottom of the ninth Saturday at Guaranteed Rate Field. Tim Anderson represented the potential winning run for the Sox at second base. Some hitters might try to do too much to produce for a team in those circumstances. But Luis Robert exhibited patience, waiting for the right pitch to attack against Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman. Robert took three balls and a strike. Then he got his pitch, ripping a single to right. Anderson scored ahead of Aaron Judge’s throw, giving the Sox a thrilling 3-2 victory in front of 32,830. “I was trying to be early with his fastball,” Robert said through an interpreter, of his approach in the situation. “I was trying to make contact.” It was the second game-ending hit of Robert’s career. The first came during his rookie season, when he a home run on Aug. 30, 2020 against the Kansas City Royals. “This felt better,” Robert said. “I was more excited, fans here versus the Yankees. After two losses, this one was very good.”...

In a trip marked by sloppy weather and sloppy play, the Chicago White Sox took another hit in the eighth inning Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians. Center fielder Luis Robert exited the 6-3 loss with what manager Tony La Russa called “a little minor groin strain,” according to the initial opinion. While head athletic trainer James Kruk told La Russa the injury “looked like it was minor and it should be something that heals quickly,” La Russa also acknowledged a stint on the injured list for Robert is “a possibility, yeah.” Robert was injured after hitting a grounder to shortstop Andrés Giménez. “I was running hard down the line and when I was getting to the base, I felt a little pull,” he said through an interpreter. Robert was hitless in his previous 20 at-bats entering Thursday. After striking out in the first, he snapped the skid with a leadoff double in the fourth. He singled again leading off the sixth before the groundout in the eighth. “We’re still early in the season,” Robert said. “I was trying to get...
Luis Robert raced to the wall, attempting to track down Jesse Winker’s long fly in the third inning Tuesday at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Chicago White Sox center fielder was well aware of his surroundings. “Before the catch, I was aware of the wall,” Robert said through an interpreter. “And then, when you know that, you’re able to adjust. It’s not going to take you by surprise. I was aware of where the wall was, and I was aware on the play.” Robert jumped, made the catch and crashed into the wall. The splendid play saved at least one run. Robert also displayed his talents at the plate and on the bases, leading the Sox to a 3-2 victory against the Seattle Mariners in the home opener in front of a sellout crowd of 36,948. He gave the Sox a lead with a solo homer in the sixth. He reached on a walk in the eighth, stole second and third and scored what turned out to be an important insurance run. “Being able to do that in the home opener...
Luis Robert did it all in Tuesday’s home opener for the Chicago White Sox. He made a splendid leaping catch to save a run in the third inning against the Seattle Mariners. He broke a tie with a line-drive home run in the sixth. And he stole two bases on the way to scoring an insurance run in the eighth as the Sox beat the Mariners 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 36,948 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Reynaldo López struck out two in 1⅔ scoreless relief innings for the victory as the Sox won their third straight. The Mariners struck first with a solo homer by Eugenio Suárez with one out in the second against Sox starter Vince Velasquez. The Mariners threatened in the third as Velasquez issued consecutive one-out walks. Jesse Winker hit a long fly to center, and Robert raced back, jumped and caught the ball as he crashed into the wall. Mitch Haniger popped out to shortstop Tim Anderson to end the inning. Mariners starter Matt Brash retired the first seven hitters in his big-league...

Thankfully, ace Luis Severino, who has suffered nearly every injury on the book since the spring of 2020, is ready to make his much-anticipated return. At this point, there is no time for Severino to build up his arm as a starter, because the season ends in less than two weeks. He struck out for batters and walked two over 95 pitches, lowering his ERA to 3.68 on the season. Great injury news for the Yankees: There is primarily good news for the Yankees in their most recent victory over Cleveland, as Kluber displayed one of his best performances of the year aside from his no-hitter before suffering a shoulder strain several months ago.
