EVERTON defender Ben Godfrey suffered an unnecessary injury in Saturday's evening match against Chelsea at Goodison Park. The 24-year-old centre-back was stretched off in agony after launching into a tackle on German forward Kai Havertz. 2Ben Godfrey suffered a horror injury against ChelseaCredit: Reuters 2Godfrey is stretched off after the unneccesary incidentCredit: Getty However, the incident should never have happened - with the ball clearly going out of play BEFORE Godfrey's lunge. The ball was heading out of touch when Jordan Pickford did his best to stop the corner. But, despite the England shotstopper's best efforts, the ball clearly went over the line. It was missed by officials who failed to make a decision in time. London (CNN)Yemen's warring parties have renewed a two-month-long truce, first signed in April this year. It was one of the first concrete steps taken towards peace in years and a genuine moment for celebration. But for thousands of families, time is running out. While many in the international community celebrate, some families in Yemen are left watching their children slowly die. There are around 30,000 people with life-threatening diseases requiring treatment abroad, according to the Houthi-controlled government in the capital Sanaa. Some 5,000 of them are children. The truce has allowed for flights transporting patients out of the country, but that mainly works for families who can afford treatment abroad. Thanks to the devastating effects of the war and the humanitarian crisis it created -- once described by the UN as the world's worst -- most cannot. For the last seven years, a Saudi-led coalition has tried to crush the Iran-backed Houthis, after the group -- also known as Ansarullah -- overthrew the internationally recognized government. The war led to a years-long fuel blockade imposed by the coalition and supported...
On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) stated that the red flag law in Illinois is “ineffective” and “it certainly does appear that there was enough information” about the Highland Park shooter “to cause a court to cause law enforcement to go in and take his guns away.” Murphy also stated that the gun law recently passed by the Senate would give incentives for states to adopt laws “that are right now working in states like Florida, working less well, it seems, in states like Illinois.” Murphy said, “I think what we know is that Illinois has on the books a red flag law. But it’s a law that is not utilized very often. In fact, from what I understand, there’s one county that accounts for about 60-70% of all of the red flag laws ordered in the state. That means that it’s an ineffective program. The bill we just passed through Congress a week-and-a-half ago appropriates almost a billion dollars to help states like Illinois teach law enforcement, first responders how to use a red flag...
On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) argued that the Supreme Court striking down New York’s proper cause requirement for concealed carry permits will “unleash gun violence” but admitted that New York’s red flag law “should have” prevented the Buffalo shooting from happening and “if there had been sufficient resources to implement the law properly, it would have stopped it.” Blumenthal stated, “This decision is deeply destructive to responsible prevention of gun violence because it is such an expansive view of Second Amendment rights. It will unleash gun violence in many communities across America. Because it justifies very, very broad rights to carry firearms in public, and it will lead to more guns in public and likely more gun deaths and injuries in public.” Host Wolf Blitzer then pointed out that Justice Samuel Alito argued in his opinion that New York’s gun laws failed to stop the mass shooting in Buffalo. Blumenthal responded, “My reaction is that, with all due respect, Justice Alito has no understanding of the background to that Buffalo shooting. In fact, the...
The Ukrainian president has offered only qualified thanks to Ireland for its support for the country since the Russian invasion a month ago while he says Europe was 'too slow' imposing sanctions that could have stopped Vladimir Putin's invasion. Addressing the European Council, Volodymyr Zelensky namechecked EU member states - noting in turn what he saw as the level of support the country had given Ukraine. 'Ireland, well, almost,' Mr Zelensky said, without adding further reasons for his comment. While fully backing the Ukrainian push for EU membership, Ireland has not abandoned its position of military neutrality in the face of the Russian assault. In his address, Zelensky scolded Europe for being too 'late' imposing sanctions on Russia, saying Vladimir Putin would 'never' have invaded if measures had been 'preventative'.  He thanked Europe for imposing sanctions on Russia but said they were too late to stop Putin's troops invading Ukraine. 'You have imposed sanctions and we are grateful. These are strong steps,' he said. 'But it was a little late, because if it had been preventative, Russia would never have started...
Love Is Blind season two gripped viewers when it landed on Netflix last month — and the romantic drama has continued since the cameras stopped rolling. After ten episodes of hook ups, honeymoons, and shock dumpings at the altar, the stars have kept busy since the finale, with 'villain' Abhishek 'Shake' Chatterjee debuting his new romance on social media last week.  Meanwhile, two couples — Jarrette and Iyanna and Nick and Danielle — have filed the legal paperwork to make their TV weddings official, with The Cook County Court in Illinois holding marriage records for both couples from June 2021.  But have the rest of the cast found lasting love outside of the pods?   Abhishek 'Shake' Chatterjee and Deepti Vempati Where are they now: The stars of Netflix hit Love Is Blind, season two gripped viewers with their hook ups and breakups, but have the likes of Shake and Deepti  found lasting love? Shake had proposed to Deepti Vempati in the pods during the second season of the dating show, but she ended the engagement on their wedding day. 'I just don’t have room...
GRANIT XHAKA leaving Arsenal and then performing as he did against France in their Euros knockout clash with Switzerland is a touch ironic.  No fan likes a player to be disrespectful to the club paying their wages Xhaka seeming to try and engineer an early resolution to his Roma transfer risks tarnishing his legacy.  7Xhaka hopes to seal a much reported move to RomaCredit: The Mega Agency 7The Switzerland captain's relationship with Arsenal fans has been a mix of highs and lowsCredit: Getty However, many reading this may well ask the question ‘what legacy?’  And this tells its own story. After five years in North London the fact that the Swiss skipper still divides Arsenal supporters is a testament, in my opinion, that he was never quite good enough. EURO 2020 FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN NEW CUSTOMER DEALS If you are a top player for a club there would never be such a stark division, but those who do not see his qualities at all are being highly unfair. Xhaka has exceptional quality in many aspects, most notably his...
By Ayman al-Warfali and Angus McDowall SIRTE, Libya/TUNIS (Reuters) - In Libya's frontline city of Sirte, parts of which still lie in ruins, the commission set up to oversee warring rivals' recent ceasefire has put its name on a large downtown conference centre - an outward sign of its commitment to peace. So far the ceasefire is holding, and some elements of the truce have been implemented: flights between rival cities Tripoli and Benghazi have resumed and foreign fighters have left oil facilities - the keys to Libya's economy. But meetings of the Joint Military Commission in northern Libya, attended by five officers each from the two sides, have yet to make progress on other key demands of a U.N.-brokered agreement, underlining its fragility. The rivals in a civil war that has left thousands dead and the country in chaos have yet to withdraw troops from frontline positions, open a major coastal road linking Sirte to Misrata and rid their ranks of foreign mercenaries. "The danger won't end unless the process of national reconciliation is completed," said Mohammed Mofteh, 33,...
BALWDIN HILLS (CBSLA) — Shoppers throughout the Southland have become accustomed to waiting in line to enter stores, and, at an Eagle Rock Trader Joe’s, that means lining up along Colorado Boulevard while standing six feet apart. An employee at an Eagle Rock Trader Joe’s makes sure no more than 26 shoppers enter the store at a time. (CBSLA) “I never would have thought I’d be standing in line just to go shopping,” Marjorie Lacson, a shopper, said. But what felt completely outside the realm of normal in March has now become just another commonplace part of living in the midst of a pandemic. “That’s what I say, ‘OK, that’s life,’ because I can’t just think about myself, I have to think about other people,” Chris Kouri, a shopper, said. “I don’t want everybody to get COVID, so I’m going to follow the program.” RELATED: Still Can’t Find Disinfectant Wipes? You’re Not Alone At the Eagle Rock Trader Joe’s, only 26 shoppers can be inside the store at a time. And, at a busy Target in Baldwin Hills, regulars said...
Just before sunrise on July 16, 1945—75 years ago today—a patch of New Mexican desert was incinerated during the first trial of the most destructive weapon ever created. The plutonium bomb used for the Trinity test left a 5-foot crater in the ground and turned the surrounding desert floor into a radioactive green glass. The blast bathed the peaks of the nearby Oscura Mountains in a blinding white light, and dozens of scientific observers watching from 20 miles away reported feeling an immense heat wash over them. As the light from the explosion faded, one of the architects of the bomb, Kenneth Bainbridge, gave a pithy appraisal of the event to J. Robert Oppenheimer, the project’s lead scientist: “Now we are all sons of bitches.” And he was right. Less than a month later, the United States dropped the same type of bomb on Nagasaki, Japan, just three days after detonating a smaller nuclear warhead over Hiroshima. It effectively ended World War II, but it came at the price of well over 100,000 civilian lives and the enduring suffering...
Samsung Blu-ray players appear to be malfunctioning for hundreds of users, and no one is sure what the issue is, ZDNet reported. Some users report their Blu-ray players get stuck in an endless reboot loop when they’re switched on, others reported hearing a buzzing noise as if the device is trying to read a disk, but in many cases there’s no disk in the machine. Some machines are shutting down soon after turning on, and still other users report their devices have become unresponsive to commands and pressing buttons. The issues don’t appear to be confined to one particular model. On Samsung’s community support message board, some users posited the problems started with a firmware update, but ZDNet says this doesn’t appear to be the case, suggesting the likely culprit was an expired SSL certificate the Blu-ray players used to connect to Samsung’s servers. Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday. Customer service representatives replying to the message board posters are telling people the company is investigating.
(CNN) — You can find a rationale Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis flew to Santorini before this month when he wanted to announce the reopening of his region to tourism. When the night sun commences to dip driving the rim of the extinct volcano of which the island kinds component, it is one particular of the most romantic and lovely photo opportunities on the world. It is really a perspective that helps make Santorini Greece’s most frequented island, receiving up to two million holidaymakers every year — numerous arriving on the gigantic cruise ships that can commonly be seen parked in the middle of the natural bay under. The island will be welcoming intercontinental visitors by way of airplane after again from July 1, but cautions about the coronavirus imply their quantities will be much much less than ahead of and the cruise ships will not likely be returning any time before long. And while that suggests a brutal time in advance for some enterprises, others on the island are relishing the prospect of a new period,...
If things weren’t screwed up enough in this country right now, it’s been 48 hours since I had power and my utility company says it could be another 36 hours before I can expect to see any. It’s not easy to write using your car as a charger and your throttled phone as a hotspot. Yet, I don’t know how well I’d be doing even in better circumstances, because things are so confusing and out of control. To read David Ignatius, our brave military leaders have finally found their backbone and stood up to President Trump. He wanted to use our armed forces to put down anti-police violence protests and they forced him to back down. That might be true to a certain extent, but then who are the soldiers milling about the capital without insignia or any transparent chain of command? Why is the attorney general seemingly in command? Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington, has had few options this week to hold back the overwhelming show of federal force in her city: the national guardsmen from outside D.C. whom she did...
