Getty The Vikings brought veteran quarterback Kevin Hogan in for a workout on August 4, 2022. The Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks room is in a precarious state. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah opted to keep the room intact, kicking the tires on Kirk Cousins through the next two seasons by offering the veteran a contract extension in March. However, beyond Cousins is questionable. Sean Mannion is merely a player-coach at the quarterback position who is rostered solely to support Cousins, while Kellen Mond continues to struggle in his second NFL training camp. It’s become a problem for the coaching staff who cannot evaluate receivers and the secondary when balls are being under- and overthrown in practice. Minnesota may be on the verge of making a move to remedy the situation, recently inviting a veteran quarterback in for a workout. The latest Vikings news straight to your inbox! Getty Carlo Kemp was one of three DLs to work out for the Bears this week. A week after their bye, the Chicago Bears brought in three defenders for workouts, per the NFL’s waiver wire. The team worked out defensive ends John Daka and Carlo Kent along with defensive tackle Hercules Mata’afa, signaling it could be looking to add another defensive player to the practice squad. Chicago has two defensive linemen on its practice squad, which is currently at capacity. The 16 players on the Bears’ PS are: Nsimba Webster (WR/PR), Dazz Newsome  (WR), Isaiah Coulter (WR), Rodney Adams (WR), Artavis Pierce (RB), Tyrone Wheatley Jr. (OL), Arlington Hambright (OL), Dieter Eiselen (OL), Charles Snowden (OLB), Cassius Marsh (OLB), Sam Kamara (OLB), Ledarius Mack (LB), Rashad Smith (ILB), LaCale London (DL), Margus Hunt (DL), Thomas Graham Jr. (CB). Getty Holton Hill #24 of the Minnesota Vikings attempts a tackle in the fourth quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium on December 8, 2019 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions 20-7. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur talked about the team needing to get “back to work” after Sunday’s season-opening thrashing at the hands of New Orleans, and their scouting department is wasting no time on that front. According to the NFL’s transaction wire, the Packers brought in four players for roster tryouts on Monday, September 13, including former Minnesota Vikings rotational cornerback Holton Hill. The workout list also included defensive back Steven Parker, rookie tight end Miller Forristall and former 2018 fifth-round defensive end R.J. McIntosh. Hill played 28 games for the Vikings secondary over the past three seasons, making six starts and recording a combined 73 tackles with 11 passes defended, a fumble recovery and an interception throughout his tenure. While the Vikings believed Hill had starter ability when they signed him as an undrafted rookie in 2018 and gave him $75,000...
The Indianapolis Colts will pick a No. 2 quarterback between Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger, with the strong possibility they'll also be choosing a fill-in starter until Carson Wentz is ready to return. Given their inexperience, the Colts aren't about to rush the decision. Eason passed for 132 yards and directed two field goal drives, and the Colts beat the Minnesota Vikings 12-10 on Saturday night. "There were some good things, and there were a lot of things to clean up," said Eason, who went 16 for 27 without a turnover. Troy Dye returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown to highlight a sharper showing by Minnesota's backups, one of two deflected-then-picked-off passes thrown by Ehlinger, the Indianapolis sixth-round draft pick. Ehlinger started and led two field goal drives in the first half. PALO ALTO — Ritter Amsbaugh began the day by striking out the first St. Francis hitter to come to plate. It ended, for all intents and purposes, when Amsbaugh slugged a grand slam over the left field fence to complete Palo Alto’s eight-run rally in the third inning of this CCS Open quarterfinal. The Vikings’ eight runs — all scored in a third inning in which 11 batters came to plate — were more than enough to back up Amsbaugh’s seven shutout innings on the mound, delivering Paly its first win in a CCS Open tournament since 2014. “I was nervous. I’ll be honest. This was the biggest game I’ve ever played in,” Amsbaugh said after the 8-0 win, setting up a semifinal against No. 3 Valley Christian. “I knew if I stuck to my low, outside fastball and was able to get my curve over, I could get anyone out.” Amsbaugh recorded all 21 outs on the mound while allowing four hits and striking out eight without issuing a walk. Before the senior took the...
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eric Kendricks was playing at an All-Pro level again this year when the Minnesota linebacker hurt a calf muscle, which has now sidelined him for all of December. Though the injury to an irreplaceable player was one of many setbacks for the Vikings in a season with more downs than ups, Kendricks’ most vital work of this tumultuous 2020 was already in full swing off the field. Kendricks was named the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the annual recognition for an NFL player’s outstanding community service. The relevancy of his effort was never more evident than during the offseason, when worldwide racial unrest was sparked by the killing by police of George Floyd, which took place just a few miles from the stadium where Kendricks normally directs the middle of Minnesota’s defense. “He’s been a leader since the moment he stepped into this building by the way that he carries himself, by the way that he handles himself on and off the field, by the way he plays this game with...
Getty Ex-Broncos QB Kyle Sloter. The New York Giants have been busy scouring the streets for free agents who could help improve a roster that is three losses away from their fourth consecutive losing season. On Thursday the Giants brought in three familiar faces for visits, wide receiver Corey Coleman, defensive back Montre Hartage and tight end Rysen John, all of whom are expected to sign. A day earlier, the G-Men took a closer look at five other available players, including one intriguing signal-caller. The Giants met with five free-agents this past Wednesday, holding tryouts in East Rutherford for the likes of defensive backs Saquan Hampton and Jeremiah Dinson, wide receivers Chris Lacy and Michael Walker, as well as quarterback Kyle Sloter.Sloter’s ‘Cult Following’ Backed by Impressive SkillsetKyle Sloter Full Vikings Preseason HighlightsKyle Sloter’s 2018 Highlights with the Minnesota Vikings2018-09-02T01:06:26Z Sloter is by far the most notable of the bunch, as the former Northern Colorado Bear gathered a “cult following” during his days with the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — For most of Adam Thielen’s career, he was widely viewed as the overachieving small-school wide receiver who needed a rookie tryout camp just to get an offseason roster spot with the Minnesota Vikings and worked his way up from the practice squad to become a starter. Now, he’s by far the most experienced player in his position room, tasked with helping guide a young group past the departure of longtime pal and pass-catching partner Stefon Diggs. “It helps me stay young, I think,” Thielen said. READ MORE: Vikings To Host, Honor George Floyd’s Family At Sunday’s Home Opener Even coming off a rough 2019, when he essentially missed half of the regular season with a pulled hamstring, his first significant injury in football, the two-time Pro Bowl pick is not feeling his age. “Maybe it’s because I’ve been trying to avoid that, being the old guy in the room,” the 30-year-old Thielen said recently. “But I definitely don’t feel it. It feels no different than my first couple years in the league. Just trying to learn...
Safety Steven Parker, claimed off waivers from Miami last Friday, passed all conoravirus protocols and practiced Monday for the first time with the Vikings. The Vikings waived linebacker Quentin Poling with an injury designation to create room on the 80-man roster for Parker, who was given No. 37. Poling, signed Aug. 8, left practice early Sunday with an injury. The Vikings had a roster exemption on Parker until he passed all coronavirus tests. Parker undrafted in 2018 out of Oklahoma, spent that season on the Los Angeles Rams’ practice and last season played 14 games for the Dolphins. Also, the Vikings on Monday worked out free-agent safety Jahleel Addae, looking to sign for an eighth season. They are looking for veteran help at safety behind starters Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris. The only other safeties on the roster are rookies Josh Metellus, Brian Cole II and Myles Dorn. “We’re kind of young with the backup safeties,” said Vikings coach Mike Zimmer. “We’re going to keep looking and however we can get the best 53 on (the regular-season roster).” Related Articles...
The Vikings added depth to their secondary Friday by claiming safety Steven Parker off waivers from Miami. And even more help could be on the way. A source said free-agent safety Jahleel Addae will work out with the Vikings on Monday. Addae started 62 of the 96 games he played in the past seven seasons with the Chargers and Houston Texans. Parker was undrafted out of Oklahoma in 2018 and spent that season on the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad. He saw his first regular-season game action last season with the Dolphins. He played in 14 games, starting four, and had two interceptions. Parker, who was waived Thursday, will provide depth behind starters Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris. The Vikings lost safeties Jayron Kearse and Andrew Sendejo in free agency, and did not replace them with any veterans. They did select two safeties in the draft — Josh Metellus in the sixth round and Brian Cole II in the seventh. The Vikings eventually will need to make a move to create room for Parker on the 80-player training camp roster....

But the team is still seeking depth. © Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports Jahleel Addae will look to latch on with the Vikings. The Vikings are set to work out Jahleel Addae, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. A longtime Chargers starter, Addae spent last season as a rotational player with the Texans. This will be Addae’s age-30 season. The Texans passed on bringing him back in free agency, instead signing former Chiefs and Browns safety Eric Murray. Despite Addae starting just three games last season — the fewest since his rookie year — he played 48% of Houston’s snaps. For his career, Addae has started 59 games since becoming a Bolts undrafted free agent success story.
