Photo by Jason Kempin/Getty Images for Politicon Fox News Contributor Tomi Lahren was not particularly sympathetic to WNBA star Brittney Griner after she was sentenced to nine years in Russian prison on Thursday morning for drug possession charges. Following an emotional plea in court, Griner was sentenced to more than nine years in jail after pleading guilty to the charges last month. Griner has been detained in Russia since February after authorities found 0.7 grams of cannabis oil in her luggage upon arrival to the country. Shortly after the sentencing, President Joe Biden released a statement from the White House, demanding Griner’s release immediately. The WNBA also released a statement condemning the basketball star’s sentencing. Once the news broke about Griner’s sentence, Lahren tweeted that Griner’s conviction is a “cautionary tale.” Lahren continued to argue that this is the consequence of thinking that America is “oppressive,” then finding out what “No justice looks like.” “Too bad too sad,” she concluded sarcastically. Brittney Griner is a cautionary tale. Hate America? Think it’s oppressive? Go to another country, play stupid games and...

A DOUBLE murderer who killed his wife, and six years later his fiancée, has had his whole-life sentence reduced. In a judgment, they stated: “Grave though the first murder was, it could not — viewed in isolation from the later second murder — be regarded as an offence of exceptionally high seriousness. "There is no suggestion that at the time when he committed the first murder, Stewart was already planning that it would be the first in a series." Appearing on The View, former Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday touted her “love” for her “brilliant” anti-Trump husband, George Conway. Co-host Sara Haines asked Conway why her husband and daughter, Claudia Conway, “[turned] on you and in such a public way.” “I’m very raw and open and vulnerable in this book, Sara, and the reason is I have been in the middle of incredible opportunities and also wild dramas and traumas and I’ve come out on the other side very whole, very happy and very hopeful and also with a lot of love in my heart for George,” said Conway. “We share four children. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg today warned the war in Ukraine could last 'months, even years' as there is no sign Vladimir Putin has lost 'his ambition to control the whole country'.  It comes as Ukrainian authorities today warned civilians in the country's east to flee 'now' or 'risk death' as Russian forces regroup ahead of what is expected to be a fresh offensive in the Donbas region.  Stoltenberg, speaking ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, said the international community should be 'realistic' about Moscow's intentions and 'realise that this may last for a long time' as the war entered its 41st day.  'We need also to be prepared for the long haul, both when it comes to supporting Ukraine, sustaining sanctions and strengthening our defences,' he added. NATO's foreign ministers were meeting today and tomorrow to discuss sending more arms to Ukraine after the Czech Republic became the first bloc member to send tanks and armoured infantry vehicles to Kyiv.     Members of the trans-Atlantic alliance had until today given Ukraine only anti-tank and anti-craft missiles, small...

(CNN)UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced a plan Wednesday to ensure every single person on the planet has access to early warning systems for extreme weather and climate disasters within the next five years. Early warning systems inform people that dangerous weather is on the way. They have been crucial in saving lives in extreme weather events, such as tropical cyclones, flooding, storms, forest fires and tornadoes, and can help communities -- particularly those that rely on farming -- to adapt to upcoming changes in weather.Delay means death: Were running out of ways to adapt to the climate crisis, new report shows. Here are the key takeawaysYet a third of the world's population is not covered by these systems. And where they have been absent, hundreds, even thousands, of lives have been lost in single extreme weather events. The climate crises is expected to make many of these events more intense and frequent. "Human-caused climate disruption is now damaging every region," said Guterres in a video message. "Half of humanity is already in the danger zone."Read MoreHe added, "We must boost...
It’s been established many times over that the typical western diet of processed foods and animal products is inferior to a diet more focused on whole, plant foods. Well, a new study shows just exactly how many years you can add onto your life if you make the switch. According to the study, men could increase their lifespan by 13 years if they started eating healthier when they turned 20, whereas women could add around 10 years. If a man started at 6o, they could add 9 years, and women could add 8. And men or women starting at 80 could extend their lives another 3.5 years. Dr. David Katz, a specialist in medicine and nutrition, told CNN that he thought the diet could be improved even more because his impression was “it still allowed for considerable doses of meat and dairy.” He added: “What they define as an ‘optimal’ diet is not quite optimal; it’s just a whole lot better than ‘typical.’” The researchers who conducted the study analyzed information from the Global Burden of Disease...
(CNN)Changing what you eat could add up to 13 years to your life, according to a newly published study, especially if you start when you are young. Too much Southern food can cause a sudden heart attack, but Mediterranean diet reduced riskThe study created a model of what might happen to a man or woman's longevity if they replaced a "typical Western diet" focused on red meat and processed foods with an "optimized diet" focused on eating less red and processed meat and more fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole grains and nuts.If a woman began eating optimally at age 20, she could increase her lifespan by just over 10 years, according to the study published Tuesday in the journal PLOS Medicine. A man eating the healthier diet from age 20 could add 13 years to his life. Focusing on a healthier diet could also lengthen the lives of older adults, albeit, the study said. By starting at age 60, a woman could still increase her lifespan by eight years. Men starting a healthier diet at age 60 might add nearly...

The fact that so many well-known right-wing Republicans endorsed Joe Biden during the United States’ 2020 presidential race —from former Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona to former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina to Sen. John McCain’s widow Cindy McCain — speaks volumes about how dramatically former President Donald Trump remade the GOP in his image, and how alienated they fell from the party. The GOP landscape is radically different from what it was during the Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama years, and journalists Jonathan Swan and Lachlan Markay describe that landscape in an article published by Axios on February 4. “Paths to power and winning elections inside the GOP are changing rapidly and radically, spawning a new generation of kingmakers while diminishing the clout of many who lorded over the party for years,” Swan and Markay explain. “Why it matters: 14 of the Republican Party's top consultants and operatives across the country spoke in detail with Axios about how profoundly primary races have changed since 2014 — the last pre-Donald Trump midterm election and the last midterms in...

After being closed for indoor dining during the entire pandemic, famed Berkeley restaurant Chez Panisse recently announced that it is planning to open a “welcoming new bar with delicious food” next to its Shattuck Avenue space. It was great news for Bay Area foodies, that this national gem was not only surviving the pandemic, but growing. Then came the unsavory part. Expanding means ousting another Berkeley institution, César, a tapas restaurant that has been Chez Panisse’s neighbor for 24 years. According to Berkeleyside, Chez Panisse informed Cesar about a year ago that it would not be renewing its sublease at 1515 Shattuck Avenue. It was a clear, sunny, blue-sky day the day I learned I had breast cancer. The brutally unexpected so often seems to happen on such days. For a few months over the past summer, I had an intermittent sharp pain under my left breast, as if the wire from a bra was cutting in. Sometimes it woke me at night, sometimes it disappeared for days. But there was no lump or general tenderness.  When I mentioned the pain to anyone, they would say: ‘Well at least it’s not breast cancer because you don’t get a pain with breast cancer.’ But then I read about how Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, who sadly died of breast cancer in September, experienced a pain which she attributed to a guitar strap rubbing her breast. It made me think that I should get my pain investigated – but not right then. At some point. In the future. It was a clear, sunny, blue-sky day the day I learned I had breast cancer. The lavish parties held by Dr Isaac Herschkopf, one of New York’s most celebrated psychiatrists, had gained something of a reputation among his neighbours in the Hamptons — the elite East Coast community he called home. After chartering buses to transport anything from 70 to 170 guests to his property, Isaac, or ‘Ike’ as he encouraged his friends to call him, would entreat his guests — who included Gwyneth Paltrow — to enjoy his legendary get-togethers. As they quaffed champagne, enjoyed the free poolside massages laid on by their host, or toured the premises (filled with photos of Ike with celebrities from actresses Paltrow and Brooke Shields to disgraced U.S. sports star O.J. Simpson), few took any notice of Marty, the unassuming chap in the background, serving drinks or quietly grilling kosher meat on the barbecue. And why would anyone pay attention to the hired help? Because, in fact, he owned the house — Ike was merely Marty’s therapist. Yet, during three years of treatment, Ike had inveigled his way into his patient’s life to such a degree that he...

CRIMES in the UK carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and is applicable to only the most serious cases. However, not all life sentences carry the same jail time as it varies on a case by case basis. Here we explain all. 2 Prisoners who have been given terms of life imprisonment can apply for paroleCredit: Getty - Contributor How long is a life sentence in the UK? Life sentences are dished out to offenders who commit the most heinous crimes, including murder, rape and armed robbery. Judges decide the minimum number of years a prisoner will serve of their life term on a case-by-case basis. In many instances, this is a minimum of 15 years without chance of parole. Unlike whole life orders, inmates have the ability to have their cases reviewed, which ultimately means they could get out of jail. 2 Ian Brady, who died in 2017, was sentenced to life without paroleCredit: AFP When is a prisoner eligible for parole? NBC News anchor Chuck Todd said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) resigned so he could run for office or work within the Democratic Party in the future. Scientists have studied a 50-million-year-old glacial climate. During one of the longest ice ages, glaciers reached the equator. When three 28-year-old men got together to open a coffee shop in the U.S. city of Seattle on March 30, 1971, the American idea of a ‘cup of joe’ was a very different thing from what it is today.
