Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is taking on a new challenge, bridging the physical divide infrastructure has caused in America. Buttigieg joined Trevor Noah on last night’s episode of The Daily Show to discuss his agenda. “I know you made headlines when and correct me if I paraphrase you incorrectly, but I mean, you basically said that America’s roads are racist, right?” Noah began. “Not exactly what I said,” Buttigieg laughed. “…The point is, look, there are many places in the us where a road or a railroad was used to divide or segregate or even remove a neighborhood, typically a black neighborhood.” “I completely understand,” Noah replied. “The very fact that we have the phrase ‘Wrong side of the tracks’ in American English language tells you something about how infrastructure which is supposed to connect can also be used to divide, often on racial lines and we’ve gotta face that and we can do something,” Buttigieg added. When Noah pressed on the details of his plan to “right the wrongs,” Buttigieg replied, “…We’re gonna get it right. And that includes...

This is the moment a HGV driving on the wrong side of the road narrowly avoids a head-on collision with an oncoming car. The hair-raising incident happened last month on the B3227 near Atherington in North Devon on June 17 at 10.11am. Carl Rowberry, 33, was behind the wheel of the dash cam car, and the clip begins as he approaches a bend on the country road. Moments before the left-hand bend a HGV comes into view on the wrong side of the road and swerves at the last moment avoiding the stationary car by inches. The rear-view camera shows the wheels of the HGV still on the wrong side of the road after passing the car indicating how close a collision was. THIS is the frightening moment a driver veered onto the wrong side of the road, smashed into another car and spun upside down - before escaping prosecution. Driving instructor Colin Savage has branded the decision not to pursue charges "disgraceful" after the horrifying crash in Canterbury, Kent. 5The car was seen driving towards Colin before crossing onto the wrong side of the roadCredit: Facebook 5The driving instructor's car was badly smashedCredit: Facebook The 48-year-old was behind the wheel of his Ford Puma with his wife in the passenger seat when the black Nissan Qashqai rounded the bend and crossed the dividing line. Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko says OPEC is on the wrong side of history in choosing to stick with Russia.Future Publishing | Future Publishing | Getty Images The chief executive of Ukrainian state energy giant Naftogaz says oil producer group OPEC is on the wrong side of history in choosing to stick with Russia to stabilize energy markets. Speaking to CNBC's Hadley Gamble at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Monday, Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko warned the Middle East-dominated group of exporting countries to recognize the Kremlin's onslaught in Ukraine as a challenge to their wealth. When asked whether OPEC was in danger of being out of sync with the international community over Russia's widely condemned invasion, Vitrenko replied: "Yes, it seems like they are on the wrong side of history." "They have a vested interest in the economic development of the world, in the sustainability of the world and Putin is challenging this sustainability. He is challenging their wealth. Maybe they don't understand it at the moment but if we live in the world that Putin wants us to...

A Chinese diplomat has blamed the US for the war in Ukraine and accused them of 'fanning the flames' by supplying weapons and ammunition to the country.  Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, said: 'The claim that China is on the wrong side of history is overbearing. During an interview with NPR on Tuesday released on Wednesday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded to a question on whether the U.S. can isolate China the way it has isolated Russia if it has to by stating “China’s already on the wrong side of history” in the conflict in Ukraine and if China were to provide material support to Russia, “that would be even worse. It’s something we’re looking very carefully at. But I think this is doing real damage to China reputationally” around the world. Host Steve Inskeep asked, [relevant exchange begins around 5:20]  “Are the United States and its European allies capable of isolating China in the way that you’ve isolated Russia if China were to aid Russia beyond some certain point?” Blinken responded, “Well, China’s already on the wrong side of history when it comes to Ukraine and the aggression being committed by Russia. The fact that it has not stood strongly against it, that it has not pronounced itself against this aggression flies in the face of China’s commitments as a permanent member of the...
The proudly antisemitic Wendy Rogers tops the Anti-Defamation League's list of extremist politicians. It's one of many controversies she's leveraged for donor dollars. Wendy Rogers claims she speaks for the people, yet she’s released just three paltry letters of support on her website, all of which slam the Arizona senate for censuring her in a historic 24-3 vote over her speech at a Nazi conference, plus her exhaustingly divisive social media presence. The folks who aren’t her constituents are somehow eating up her extremism, having donated nearly $2 million to a candidate they can’t even cast a ballot for. The censuring only emboldened Rogers to seek further donations via email, according to The Washington Post, and she hasn’t exactly backed down from any of her incendiary statements. Prior to being censured, Rogers had a chance to speak at the Nick Fuentes-run (yes, that Nick Fuentes) America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC). She took it as an opportunity to openly endorse the far right, slam fellow lawmakers like Tulsi Gabbard and Dan Crenshaw, and really make her feelings for Robert E. Lee known despite the racist and incompetent joke of a...
On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks said the school board recalls in San Francisco “should be a five-alarm fire” to Democrats, who have gotten on the wrong side of the major issues of education and crime. Host Judy Woodruff asked, “Some glimmerings around the country in local races, David, that voters who had voted Democratic are having real problems with Democratic — three Democratic candidates right now, three members of the San Francisco school board kicked out of office. We’ve seen it in Virginia and a few other places. It’s voters upset about COVID, about education issues, and more. But how worried, I guess, is my question — and I’m asking you to do this in just a minute or so — should Democrats be right now about some of these, frankly, surprising moves around the country?” Brooks responded, “Yeah, it should be a five-alarm fire. San Francisco, they defeated those people by like 72 to 79%. The two big issues are schools — San Francisco wanted to dismantle the magnet school, and crime. Crime is...

The Washington Examiner’s Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon pointed to the wayward ways of the Democratic Party concerning COVID-19 and crime policies while also calling the latest Durham report that suggests Hillary Clinton’s campaign spied on then-President Donald Trump “absolutely appalling.” When Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo asked Gurdon about crime levels reaching a 25-year high, Gurdon said they are “having an enormous cultural effect” and noted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s admission of responsibility. "Nancy Pelosi said in an interview yesterday, 'Make no mistake: Community safety is our responsibility.' And those words should come back to haunt Democrats in the 2022 elections later this year because communities are less safe and Democrats are responsible," Gurdon said Monday on Mornings with Maria. Gurdon added that the murder rate has jumped 30%, with 12 major cities setting murder records, as Democrats encouraged anti-police riots. TRUMP REACTS TO DURHAM FILING: 'FAR BIGGER CRIME THAN WATERGATE' “These are not coincidences,” Gurdon said. “This is because Democrats have sided with the criminal classes and they have encouraged people to believe...

The mayor of New York City has admitted that he does not feel safe while riding the subway - two days after insisting that there was merely a 'perception of fear.' Eric Adams's backtracking came hours after a group of commuters revealed how they were forced to stand behind the subway entrance while waiting for a train as a screaming man paced on the platform - a scene that is increasingly typical as random subway violence becomes the norm.  Transit crimes are already up 65 percent in 2022, with 96 crimes taking place in the first 16 days of the year, compared to only 58 in the same period last year, according to New York Police Department crime statistics released on Tuesday afternoon.  On Saturday morning, a 40-year-old Deloitte executive died when a mentally ill homeless man shoved her into the path of an oncoming subway train at Times Square.  A candlelit vigil in honor of Michelle Alyssa Go, who grew up in the Bay Area before moving to New York, is scheduled to take place in Portsmouth Square in San Francisco's...
SOME may be wondering why it’s illegal - or even dangerous - to park your car when it’s facing the wrong way in a street. A reason why you might park a car the wrong way is because you didn’t realize you drove down a one-way street initially. 1One area in the country could give you a $300 ticket for parking on the wrong side Another reason could be out of pure laziness and not wanting to have to drive around your block so your car is facing the correct way at all times. Keep in mind that typically the wrong side of the road is the left side, at least in the US. One Reddit user shared an inconvenient story involving rage from his neighbor about this. “Basically, there’s a curb in front of my house between two garages (ie not a parallel parking situation) in which I’ll occasionally park facing the wrong way if I’m tired and don’t want to go around the block,” he said.  “My neighbor threw a fit and threatened to call the cops but I don’t...
WINDHAM, N.H. (CBS) – New Hampshire State Police followed but eventually lost an SUV that was driven at least 14 miles the wrong way on Interstate 93 Sunday night. Multiple people reported the wrong-way driver around 10:30 p.m. heading southbound on the northbound side of I-93 near Exit 6 in Manchester. A trooper made his way through Londonderry and found the car still driving the wrong way, but was unable to get the driver to stop. The trooper took the next crossover and later caught up to the vehicle again, following from the opposite side of I-93 while local police tried to get spike strips in place. With the emergency lights of their cruisers on, troopers continued driving parallel to the vehicle on the southbound side. When the SUV got near the weigh station in Windham, troopers lost sight of the driver because of the tree line. Police were waiting for the wrong-way driver a short distance ahead, but it never arrived. State Police believe the driver either got onto the correct side of the road, or got off the...
It was another blowout-filled weekend in the NFL, only this time several of teams on the losing end came from teams near the top of the standings. For the second time in four weeks, six games were decided by at least 21 points, the first time that has happened twice in a season since 2009 and just the fifth time ever. Five of the six teams on the wrong side of those lopsided games were teams that entered the weekend with a .500 or better record with Atlanta losing 43-3 to Dallas, Las Vegas falling 41-14 to Kansas City, the Rams losing 31-10 to San Francisco, Arizona getting beat 34-10 by Carolina and Cleveland getting knocked off 45-7 by New England. The other blowout was far more predictable with the struggling New York Jets getting beat 45-17 by Buffalo. This marked just the second time in NFL history that five teams that came into the week without a losing record got beat by at least 21 points, according to Sportradar. The other came in Week 17 of the 2009 season...
A furious black mom is suing a Michigan police department for pointing a gun and handcuffing her 10 year-old son after his dad was apprehended by cops.   'I'm scared,' the visibly frightened child can be heard telling the Pittsfield Township officer while getting handcuffed, in footage recorded from the officer's person during the April 16 incident.  The altercation, which saw the boy's dad filmed screaming over how his son was treated, has since become the focus of a federal lawsuit filed by the boy's mother. It came after the boy's father was ordered by cops to drive away from the scene of a shooting that had been cordoned off by police. He drove down the wrong side of a road, sparking a police response. A 100mph chase then ensued, with the dad and his son both restrained after officers finally apprehended their white Dodge car.  The suit, filed in a Michigan US District Court on October 5, argues that the Pittsfield Township officer, who has not been formally identified, caused 'emotional injury' to the youngster during the April 16 traffic stop,...
On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks said Democrats have allowed themselves to get on the wrong side of education, even though “It’s a no-brainer” that “you’ve got to show you have room for all kinds of views in your party on that and you’re not some tool of the left.” Brooks stated that the issue is “are people from outside, or are certain teacher or education schools imposing values that we don’t agree with on us and imposing them on our kids?” He added, “And how the Democrats let themselves get on the wrong side of that issue is a bit of a mystery to me. It’s a no-brainer that people have very diverse views on gender and all this stuff. And you’ve got to show you have room for all kinds of views in your party on that and you’re not some tool of the left.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett
Like all states in the U.S., Minnesota is one of a kind. No other state has the same demographics or needs as we do. The most important basis for helping us to prosper is understanding this simple fact. Unfortunately, we seem to have a governor who does not understand this. One of Minnesota’s main sources of revenue is farming, specifically corn and soybeans.  Minnesota is home to three biodiesel plants, and the country’s first biodiesel mandate. Minnesota is the fourth-largest ethanol producer in the country, and currently has an E10 mandate for gasoline sold in the state. Minnesota implemented these biofuel mandates as a way to boost rural economies and add much-needed tax base to our rural towns and school districts. These mandates have also worked to clean Minnesota’s air. Since their implementation, Minnesota has reached clean air attainment. Given these facts, Gov. Tim Walz’s push for an electric vehicles mandate, otherwise known as “Clean Cars Minnesota,” is unwarranted. And this mandate will fundamentally distort the marketplace and erect artificial incentives for electric vehicles to compete unfairly against vehicles that...
High-rise apartment buildings at China Evergrande Group's under-construction Riverside Palace development in Taicang, Jiangsu province, China, on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021.Qilai Shen | Bloomberg | Getty Images BEIJING — Chinese developer Evergrande made little progress toward complying with Beijing's crackdown on real estate debt — until it was too late for investors who poured money into its offshore bonds, now worth at least $19 billion. Worries about the giant developer's ability to repay its debt and a total of $300 billion in liabilities have put global investors on edge. Beyond the company itself, there are worries about a potential spillover into the rest of China's real estate industry or economy. A closer look at Evergrande revealed a company with many of the same problems as others in the Chinese property sector, but didn't act as quickly to respond to government rules aimed at resolving those issues. Evergrande has failed to meet several payment deadlines since September, and the latest was on Oct. 11 for interest owed on one of its U.S. dollar-denominated bonds. That brought its total missed payment to...
Brad Meltzer, author of "I am Rosa Parks," is speaking out after his children’s book was placed on a banned list by the Central York School District in Pennsylvania. On "Fox & Friends," Meltzer called out the school board for becoming part of cancel culture. According to the school district, the books were not "banned," but rather "frozen" until they can be vetted.  COLORADO PARENTS CREATE ‘NO-POLITICS’ PUBLIC SCHOOL WITH FOCUS ON TRADITIONAL STUDIES "I was heartbroken because there are all these little kids now that aren't going to hear the story of Rosa Parks," Meltzer said.  He noted the lessons children can learn from the example set by Rosa Parks. Supporters of former President Donald Trump clash with police and security to storm the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021. Three violations for “conduct unbecoming,” one for “failure to comply with directives,” one for “improper remarks,” and one violation for “improper dissemination of information”: This was the alleged work of Capitol Police officers, the Washington, D.C.-based police force announced on Saturday as part of 38 internal investigations into the deadly attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6. Disciplinary action was recommended in the six cases, and another case involving an official accused of "unsatisfactory performance and conduct unbecoming is still pending,” Capitol Police announced. “This week, the USCP provided the Department of Justice the administrative cases as part of the ongoing discovery production in the prosecution of the January 6 rioters,” Capitol Police wrote in a news release of the announcement. ”Officer names, witness names, and complainant names were redacted.” The department, however, is “committed to accountability when officers fail to meet the standards governed by USCP policies and the Congressional Community's expectations,” police added. “The six sustained cases should not diminish...

Last week, celebrity entertainer Nick Cannon told the cast of "The Breakfast Club," a popular urban radio/TV show, that the concept of traditional marriage is racist. "That's a Eurocentric concept when you think about the idea of you're supposed to have this one person for the rest of your life," Cannon said. "And really that's just to classify property when you think about it." Cannon, 40, has seven children with four different women. He went on to explain that the women in his relationships are the leaders and decision-makers. "Those women, and all women, are the ones that open themselves up and say, 'I would like to allow this man into my world and I will birth this child.' It ain't my decision. I'm just following suit," Cannon said. Nick Cannon is a sperm donor and an ATM, automated teller machine. He basically argued that he's not responsible for the children he creates beyond financial contribution. He rejects the biblical role of man and the biblical construct of marriage. MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross said to her audience Friday, filling on the “The ReidOut” that questioning the vaccine puts you in agreement with the “MAGA crowd,” who she said was on the “wrong side” of history. When asked about mask mandates, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases head Dr. Anthony Fauci said, “The guidance is the guidance from the CDC, Tiffany. If you’re fully vaccinated, you do not need to wear a mask indoors or outdoors. What we are seeing in the real world is that in those areas where you have a lot of dynamics of transmission, and you have situations where a proportion of the population in a particular given geographic area might be very low with regard to the percentage of people who are vaccinated. Under those circumstances, local authorities like in certain states or certain cities are saying even though you are vaccinated, just to be doubly sure, when you’re indoors, you should be wearing a mask. The broader country-wide recommendation is that if you’re vaccinated, you’re protected, and you don’t need to wear a mask indoor...

And you thought Tesla's yoke steering wheel was different. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is available without any steering wheel at all … at least where you usually find one. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler RHD is priced at $40,420. (Jeep) The Wrangler RHD is a right-hand-drive version of the 4x4 SUV that's sold in the United States, where it's perfectly legal to drive. Anyone can buy it, but it's not meant for everyone. It has a very specific target market in mind. While the U.S. Postal Service got rid of its Jeep-based mail trucks a long time ago, it employs rural mail carriers in remote areas of the country who use their own vehicles. Roadside mailboxes are common in these locales, so a right-hand-drive all-terrain vehicle makes plenty of sense. The previous generation of the Wrangler was offered in this configuration from 2011 to 2018, but it's only returned to the lineup this year and appears on the consumer website with a starting price of $40,420. (CNN)It's not an understatement to say we're facing a crisis of democracy. At a time when Republican state legislators are banning people from handing water to voters in line, closing down polling places and restricting absentee voting, Democrats must be united in taking bold action to fight back. Jamaal BowmanSen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia doesn't see it that way, apparently. This week, he wrote that he opposes the For the People Act (HR1), desperately needed voting rights legislation to push back on nationwide attempts to suppress the vote and save our democracy. He also underscored his opposition to abolishing the filibuster, a rule that allows 41 senators to block any piece of legislation regardless of whether it has majority support. Manchin believes federal voting rights legislation must be "the result of both Democrats and Republicans coming together to find a pathway forward," and since Republicans have so far refused their support for HR1, he simply cannot vote for it. Instead, he has said he supports a modified version of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, saying it has better...

While the Democrats and their corporate media allies increasingly embrace naked antisemitism and the disturbing rise in violence against American Jews, polling out of Fox News shows the public widely disagrees. Of late, the establishment media and Democrats have tried to push their fascist agenda (the canary in the coalmine of fascism has always been antisemitism) using the recent fighting in Gaza between Israel and the terrorists in Hamas, who’ve targeted Israeli civilians using thousands of rockets. Laughably, even though Hamas started it and openly targeted innocent civilians, the fascist media and Democrats desperately tried to spin the conflict in opposition to the Jewish state by falsely portraying Israel as the aggressor and an “apartheid state” versus the poor, oppressed Palestinians. This is laughable hogwash and the good news is that the American public are not buying it, not even close… When asked “In the Middle East conflict who do you side with more,” only 24 percent chose the Palestinians, while 59 percent sided with Israel. On the question of the U.S. providing financial military aid to Israel’s military, only...
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Ignoring the cloud of scandal hanging over his head, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday put another feather in his transit construction cap. He announced that the long-delayed East Side Access project connecting the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal will be up and running by next year. CBS2’s Marcia Kramer got an inside look at the site, seven stories under Park Avenue. FLASHBACK: East Side Access Project Stalled Yet Again As MTA, Amtrak Clash Over Closures In this case, Cuomo was showing off the long-delayed, billions-over-budget project that will finally connect the LIRR to Grand Central. It had been a long time coming, originally started in 1999 when George Pataki ran the state. That’s three governors and several fiscal crises ago, and it was a dream of Long Islanders long before then. According to Cuomo, the...

A DRUG driver who drove on the wrong side of the road and killed a veteran father-of-four in a horror crash has been jailed for three and a half years. George Thompson, 36, tried to blame ex-serviceman Richard Blain, 37, for the crash which also left his four passengers with fractured and broken bones. 1Richard Blain died when his car was hit by a drug driverCredit: North Yorkshire Police But Thompson failed a drug test which showed he had illegal levels of cannabis in his system when he smashed his white Ford Transit on Sep 19, 2019. NEW YORK (WABC) -- It was a Con Edison crash and then a controversy. That's what one Bronx retiree says who's been without her wheels for weeks after the utility smashed her parked car."That amount is a ridiculous amount to fix the damage incurred," said Sonia Rodriguez, car owner.Rodriguez is steamed after Con Ed offered just $797 and change to fix all the damage left after one of its vehicles sideswiped her Honda Civic , which was parked out in front of her home."No one in their right mind would offer $797 for these damages to my car," she said.Just a few weeks ago, Rodriguez and her boyfriend were relaxing in the Poconos. But when they got back she found her Civic smashed. Left behind was a hand-written note from Con Ed taking responsibility saying they "made contact" with her car."They didn't make contact with my car, they damaged my car," Rodriguez said. She brought the car to her body shop."This is a major, major job," said Sonny Vazquez, body shop manager.Vazquez pointed out the Civic's crumpled quarter panel and dents...
Al Ferrara, Brooklyn-born-and-raised and a Southern California resident for a long time now, followed Saturday’s Mets-Rockies opener with more of a vested interest than most. As Jacob deGrom racked up strikeout after strikeout, Ferrara admitted, he rooted for a Colorado hitter to at least hit a weak grounder or something. Anything but another K that would tie or break the major-league record of 10 in a row established by the great Tom Seaver 51 years ago Thursday. When the Rockies’ Josh Fuentes led off the bottom of the fifth inning by making contact to the tune of a grounder to second (which Jeff McNeil threw astray), Ferrara didn’t hide his relief and joy. “That almost went down the tubes,” the 81-year-old Ferrara said Monday in a telephone interview. “I don’t want that record broken until I’m outta here.” That record was set on April 22, 1970, 51 years ago Thursday, when Seaver fanned Ferrara to end the game with panache and dominance. Those concluding 10 strikeouts, with Ferrara whiffing to start and end that run, gave Seaver 19 for the...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove pitched the first no-hitter in the history of his hometown team, allowing only one baserunner in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. The Padres were the only active MLB franchise without a no-hitter, and it came in their 8,206th regular-season game — from a 28-year-old who grew up just down the road in El Cajon, California. READ MORE: Medical Marijuana Could Become More Widely Available In Texas “It’s awesome to have it be in a Padres uniform,” said Musgrove, who had never thrown a no-hitter at any level. “To have it be the first in the history of the franchise, that’s incredible.” In only his second start for San Diego, Musgrove (2-0) struck out 10 and faced 28 batters, one over the minimum. Padres manager Jayce Tingler let Musgrove go the distance because he was so efficient — and knowing what it would mean to have a hometown player end the franchise’s no-hitter drought in its 53rd season. “I think in a way that makes it,...
