SOME companies are implementing the four-day workweek and employees claim they are happier and more positive as a result, reports say. Social media software company Buffer started testing out a four-day workweek in 2020, and one employee says it's changed everything for the better. 1The four-day workweek is seen as a step towards prioritizing the livelihood of the working classCredit: Getty Mick Mahady, a software engineer from Ireland has noticed improved energy and productivity levels since the four-day weeks began. "I just don't feel as tired," Mahady raved to Insider. "I don't feel as close to burnout. I don't feel like I need another day." The engineer said that though it was well worth it, moving to a four-day workweek involved a lot of trial-and-error. At first, Buffer employees were allowed to choose which day of the week they wanted off but it led to miscommunication and added stress. It was decided that Fridays would be off company-wide, and then the implementation truly hit its stride. "I see Friday as a day off, but I also see it as a safety net,"...
For some, the season typically full of generosity means supporting those who have had to give way for all kinds of pandemic-induced adaptations."I see so many shops closing down, and I feel really bad," said Sam Kim while shopping in Old Town Pasadena on Tuesday. "So I said, OK, it's nice to come out and buy in-person."The National Retail Federation predicts Americans will end up spending a record amount of money this holiday season, growing anywhere from 8.5 to 10.5% over 2020. The question is, where will people spend their money?"I was hoping it would be a little bit better," said April Hicks, who owns April Blooms Boutique in Pasadena. "I think there are still a lot of people who are not coming out because they don't want to be exposed."Hicks relies on foot traffic, but it has been inconsistent throughout the pandemic. Her most loyal customers met her where she was through various phases of the pandemic, whether online or curbside."They were still shopping," said Hicks. "Maybe not as frequently because everybody was (thinking), 'I'm not going anywhere, I'm sitting...
Lizzo Photo: Cooper Neill / . Lizzo He should be in a good mood after the release of the video for his new song ‘Rumors’, in which his good friend participates Cardi B, since the song has been a success on streaming platforms and because, as usual, the American artist has received endless congratulations and compliments from her most staunch fans. However, the truth is that in his last direct from Instagram, the famous artist could not help but burst into tears when reporting the endless vexatious comments that, although a minority compared to the samples of support that Internet users have given it, it has also received in recent days: many of them tease about his physique that make him feel that much of the world does not tolerate seeing a plump woman in show business. “In these days when I should be so happy… I feel so down. It hurts a lot, really. I am not going to repeat here what I have been told, I am not going to give you...
SAN JOSE (KPIX) — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new travel guidelines Friday that ease restrictions for fully-vaccinated travelers. According to the agency, fully-vaccinated travelers can now travel domestically without getting a COVID-19 test before or after travel and are not required to self-quarantine as long as they aren’t exhibiting symptoms of illness. They must still, however, have a negative result in hand before boarding a flight back to the U.S. and must be tested again three to five days after arrival. Travel is still being discouraged as the virus rages and vaccinations continue. Local jurisdictions may also have tougher travel restrictions in place. “I feel a lot easier now traveling, being vaccinated,” said Redwood City resident Larry Pettis. However, Pettis and several other travelers at San Jose Mineta International Airport said they feel it’s too soon to ease restrictions. “I’m not sure if we’re ready...

Love told Bensinger he researched a number of ways to take his own life around that time, and he was asked if he still thinks about suicide. He admitted that he does. “If whoever’s gonna watch this who...
Whoopi Goldberg just came out and said it Thursday morning. She does not believe President Donald Trump ever tested positive for COVID-19. During a discussion on The View about the president resuming his large campaign rallies as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, Goldberg said: “You know what? The more he talks, the less I think he had it, personally. That’s just me, that’s just me.” But it wasn’t just her. “Me too!” Joy Behar agreed. “I’m starting to think that too, Whoopi.” “I’m starting to feel like, really?” Goldberg added. “Because I just feel like, wait a minute.” She said Trump is “the only person on the face of the earth” to seemingly be fully recovered just five days after his hospitalization for the virus. “If you are comparing yourself to Jesus, you’re saying five days, that’s all it took?” she asked. “People still haven't been able to get out of bed. So I just don’t know. And we couldn’t get the information about it and I just feel weird about it.” Ultimately, Sunny Hostin was...
I don’t spend a lot of time in the heart of downtown these days. I think this is true of many folks who live outside of the city center, especially when so many of us have had to work from home. But this summer and fall, as one silver lining to the pandemic, riding the city streets has become uniquely pleasant and peaceful, especially for cyclists (and scooterists). Cars are fewer and drivers seem less impatient, and with the various expanded outdoor dining options, many streets provide a fun block-party feel. Another positive: The price point that sometimes keeps me away from the finer downtown establishments can be rendered moot by a happy hour, depending on what you're looking for. Urban Farmer is a “family” of three restaurants, one in Portland, one in Cleveland and one just a stone’s throw away from Union Station. From the outside, Urban Farmer doesn’t stand out from the other brick-and-steel facades on the block. A line of seven or so umbrella-topped tables surrounded by a low fence divide the patio from the sidewalk. Even...
VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) — A large crowd of Villanova freshman, some without masks, was captured in cellphone video gathered on campus. It’s an issue causing concern even as many colleges have decided to offer only online classes. Credit: CBS3 Students Eyewitness News spoke to feel safe on campus, but are annoyed that some freshmen aren’t taking social distancing as seriously as they are. What looks like hoards of freshmen were seen in a video gathering closely on Villanova’s campus. Some wore masks, some did not. It’s a violation of the school’s social distancing guidelines just two days after arriving on campus. “I saw it was outside my dorm so and I took a look at that. I knew that was definitely not gonna fly, knew that wasn’t OK,” freshman Gabe Agrama said. We’re told the gathering was not affiliated with the school or orientation. But it did prompt a stern response from President Peter Donohue, who said in an email to students if the university’s social distance guidelines are not followed, “you will be sent home if you don’t commit...
UP to 150,000 “healthy” Brits a day will be screened for Covid to help spot silent spreaders and ease quarantine for returning holidaymakers. And they hope to finally launch the long-delayed NHS contact tracing app by the end of summer. Officials are considering using the extra swabbing capacity to check travellers returning from high-risk nations, such as Spain, and cut the need for 14-day quarantines. Testing is seen as crucial to getting Brits back to work and reopening schools. NHS chiefs have launched a major campaign to encourage anyone feeling “a bit rubbish” to get swabbed for the virus. 4   4   Bosses are also being encouraged to tell staff to...
