Getty Obi Toppin and Carmelo Anthony. The New York Knicks are barely floating above .500 this season, so there are a bunch of improvements that could be made to the roster. On paper, this year’s team is much better than last season’s team, mainly because they let Elfrid Payton go in exchange for Kemba Walker, but things haven’t panned out as of yet. There’s still a lot of season left to get things turned around, but they’ll have to do so fast if they want to make the playoffs. Curiously, Obi Toppin isn’t getting a lot of work with the way the roster is constructed, and a lot of that might just come down to head coach Tom Thibodeau’s philosophy. He’s always been a coach who likes to lean on his veterans, so Toppin just doesn’t fit in. It’s no secret that Toppin is a talented player, but he might be better suited on a different team if he’s not going to get a ton of playing time with the Knicks. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes that a...
During their Nov. 12 loss against the Charlotte Hornets, the New York Knicks proved that their bench was stronger than their starters.  When the New York Knicks won their season opener against the Boston Celtics, New York celebrated in the streets about how this Knicks team just might be different. Things looked good exiting the half, as the Knicks boasted a nine-point lead. But that quickly unraveled as the Hornets plotted a third-quarter comeback. +9 at the break. pic.twitter.com/g9DXt4fIuG — NEW YORK KNICKS (@nyknicks) November 13, 2021 A steady comeback in the works… #AllFly pic.twitter.com/ETG8J7GMkV — Charlotte Hornets (@hornets) November 13, 2021 After Kemba Walker got an incredible 20 points in the first half, there were signs of trouble in the...
Getty The New York Knicks are coming off a strong showing in their preseason opener against the Indiana Pacers where their offense was firing on all cylinders. With two new signings slotted into the starting lineup, the offense they displayed was definitely encouraging, but there are still some minor adjustments they have to make in order to get ready for the season. The preseason is a perfect time to build rapport with each other, but with Julius Randle missing the second game, the door is wide open for some players who don’t get a ton of minutes to show what they can do. One of these players who are looking to step up is Kevin Knox. Coach Tom Thibodeau has confirmed Knox will be getting more playing time with Randle missing Saturday’s game against the Wizards. Report: Knicks could be eyeing Kawhi Leonard if he departs Los Angeles Alexander Wilson July 25, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit The likelihood of Kawhi Leonard leaving the Los Angeles Clippers is low, but rumbles have occurred in recent days suggesting that the possibility is increasing. In the case that Leonard declines his player-option and leaves Los Angeles, the New York Knicks could target him as a high priority. Marc Stein said on a Spotify Green Room event on Friday that Dallas, Miami, and New York would chase Kawhi Leonard in the event of a departure from the Clippers: “The Mavs will try to do everything they can to get Kawhi Leonard. The Knicks and the Heat will try as well. The situation with Kawhi is no longer a safe assumption he’s staying with the Clippers.” Leonard underwent surgery to repair a “partially torn ACL,” but there is no timetable for his return at the moment. The probability is that Leonard will not be available...
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The weather has turned, COVID-19 restrictions are dropping, and New York sports teams are giving fans a reason to celebrate. Knicks fans spilled on to the street shutting down Seventh Avenue following the team’s Game 2 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. READ MORE: Knicks Fan Who Spit On Hawks’ Trae Young Banned From Garden ‘Indefinitely’ New York sports fans aren’t known for their peaceful composure. Their energy was felt everywhere, from Madison Square Garden to local bodegas. A franchise winning its first playoff game in eight years ignited a city, CBS2’s Steve Overmyer reported. “Amazing. Ain’t really much I can say. You guys pushed us through the whole game,” Knicks forward Julius Randle said of the fans. Islanders fans are also in celebration mode. The team just won its first-round playoff series, knocking out Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second time in three years. Co-owner Jon Ledecky experienced the joy firsthand with fans. “You guys bring the energy,” he said. And lets not forget the Brooklyn Nets are dominating their playoff...
The Knicks might be facing their biggest internal challenge after loss to Suns Alexander Wilson April 27, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks are coming off of a disappointing defeat against the Phoenix Suns on Monday evening, but it represents an opportunity for them to push past adversity and show they are a resilient team. The Knicks proved they could hang with one of the best teams in the NBA, and while the Suns were on a two-game losing streak, they’re capable of beating anyone at any given time, as we saw when Chris Paul hit a few late-game shots to secure the victory. The Knicks, however, are now tied with the Atlanta Hawks for the fourth seed at 7.5 games back apiece. Adversity is no stranger to this team, but their nine-game winning streak indicated that they were riding a high that they hadn’t experienced in quite some time. The demoralizing factor of a loss following a nine-game win streak could be devastating, but the Knicks have a solid opportunity to...
Knicks News: One player who’s likely to be traded prior to deadline By: Alexander Wilson March 23, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe Knicks are preparing to take on the Washington Wizards on Tuesday evening, but with the trade deadline just a few days away, they could make a last-second move to bolster their squad. The expectation is that the Knicks won’t make a big splash, trading for a star player but rather waiting until free agency to sign one on their own instead of giving up draft capital. While they do have plenty of selections to choose from, they are taking a more conservative approach and building within their own foundation. New York feels as though they can get it done with their current team, as they recently fell 101-100 to the Philadelphia 76ers, a favorite in the Eastern Conference. However, the Knicks actually might take an intriguing approach, trading away players for capital instead of parting ways with valuable assets. As per Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks could be looking to trade...
Knicks News: With point guard struggles mounting a Lonzo Ball trade could be in the near future By: Alexander Wilson March 18, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks have mounting problems at point guard, especially since they aren’t fully committed to Immanuel Quickley at the position. Both Elfrid Payton and Derrick Rose have missed the past few games, and if those inconsistencies are to continue, New York might want to look at the trade market to add another option. The Knicks have been connected to a variety of players, including Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo and pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball. Marc Berman of the NY Post believes the Knicks still have their eyes on Pelicans PG Lonzo Ball: That is why the Knicks have always kept an eye on Hornets point guard Terry Rozier and young Pelicans playmaker Lonzo Ball (who would probably be more of a summer transaction). Though Rockets combo guard Victor Oladipo is available, Pelicans pass-first point guard Lonzo Ball is higher on Leon Rose’s list. Ball is an intriguing...
Knicks News: Immanuel Quickley’s big chance might be here, but will Thibodeau allow it? By: Alexander Wilson March 15, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks have their biggest challenge of the year on Monday evening against the Brooklyn Nets. While Brooklyn has won just six games more than their counterparts in New York, the Nets have won 12 of their last 13 games. The Knicks are expected to be without both starting point guards Derrick Rose and Elfrid Payton, which leaves them with Immanuel Quickley and Frank Ntilikina. Whether or not Quickley or Frank will earn the start is up to head coach Tom Thibodeau, who was noncommittal on naming a player before Monday’s contest. “We’re still not sure yet,’’ Thibodeau said. “It will be a game-time decision.’’ Quickley has been a revelation for the Knicks this season offensively, outperforming the 25th overall selection in the 2021 NBA draft. Over 35 games, he’s averaging 12.5 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds over 19.3 minutes. He currently has a .395 field goal percentage...
New York Knicks: Tom Thibodeau might be striking gold with a Derrick Rose trade By: Alexander Wilson January 27, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks have gone down the Derrick Rose path before back in 2016 when he played 64 games for the team at 28 years old. He averaged 18 points per contest and 4.4 assists, providing his usual offensive spark, but the union lasted just one season. Fast forward five years, and the Knicks are once again considering Rose as a potential trade target. Every off-season, the Knicks are connected to a bevy of high profile players, and while Rose is undoubtedly past his prime following multiple knee injuries, he can still provide value in specific ways. It also doesn’t hurt that him and head coach Tom Thibodeau are friends and get along very well. “Every now and then, you find someone who matches your personality,’’ Derrick Rose’s agent Armstrong said, via the NY Post. “Tom and Derrick just hit it off. They’re peas in a pod. They’re basketball junkies....
