Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton revealed he agonizingly had to give up the chance to star alongside Tom Cruise in the Top Gun: Maverick film.  Hamilton, 37, has enjoyed minor forays into Hollywood in the past, making a cameo in Zoolander 2 and lending his voice to Cars 2 and Cars 3 but he almost landed his dream role.  The Brit was a fan of the original Top Gun film as a child, which made him 'fixated' on being a fighter pilot.  Although he ended up on the track rather than in the skies, Hamilton revealed he almost had the chance to live out his dream on the big screen.  In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hamilton said he begged his friend Tom Cruise to let him have a role in the Top Gun sequel.  'Basically I'm a friend of Tom,' Hamilton said before adding, 'Cruise.' 'One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He invited me to his set years ago when he was doing Edge of Tomorrow and then we just built a friendship over time.'  Formula One...

Getty Aaron Rodgers before Capital One's The Match in 2022. The Green Bay Packers have the reigning NFL MVP lining up for them at quarterback this season, but the complexities of Aaron Rodgers‘ personality extend well beyond the lines of the football field. The NFL has not issued any statement on the quarterback since he revealed during a podcast Wednesday that he used a plant-based hallucinogenic called ayahuasca while visiting South America in 2020. It is not clear what punishing powers, if any, the league has at its disposal via its code of conduct policy, especially considering that Rodgers’ was only a verbal admission about drug activity that took place years ago on a different continent. However, the United States government classifies ayahuasca as a Schedule I drug, which places it in the same category with heroin, LSD (commonly known as acid), ecstasy and marijuana. Ayahuasca also contains a substance banned by the NFL known as DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine). That fact could potentially open up a different can of worms for Rodgers, though any attempt by the NFL to...
OAKLAND — A Berkeley man was sentenced to six years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of three pistols allegedly found during a search of his grandmother’s home. Reginald Patillo, 38, was sentenced in late June by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White. The defense asked for a five-year prison term while federal prosecutors asked for White to sentence Patillo to 105 months, court records show. Patillo is serving his sentence in USP Victorville, according to Bureau of Prisons records. Patillo was arrested last year in Vallejo in connection with the search warrant of his grandmother’s Berkeley home. Authorities say he was the suspected driver in a nonfatal shooting in May 2021, near San Pablo Park in Berkeley. “(Patillo’s) conduct in repeatedly carrying illegal firearms and serving as the driver in an afternoon shooting significantly contributes to the dangerous conditions this violence presents for his fellow citizens,” assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Kane wrote in a sentencing memo. “Those potential victims include not only the intended targets of violence but also the children who play at the San Pablo...
The man who admitted to making threats toward Dr. Anthony Fauci, his family, and other federal officials will spend years behind bars after being sentenced to federal prison time in Maryland. West Virginia resident Thomas Patrick Connally, Jr., 57, was sentenced to 37 months in prison by US District Judge Paula Xinis for making threats against a federal official, specifically for sending emails threatening to harm Fauci. Connally also admitted to threatening Dr. Francis Collins, the former Director of the NIH, Dr. Rachel Levine, the former Secretary of Health for the State of Pennsylvania, a public health official in Massachusetts, and to a group working for a religious institution in Newark, NJ. “Everyone has the right to disagree, but you do not have the right to threaten a federal official’s life,” Erek Barron, the US Attorney for the District of Maryland, said. “Threats like these will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”  As part of his plea, Connally admitted that between Dec. 28, 2020, and July 25, 2021, Connally used an anonymous email account from a provider of...

Conservative conspiracy theorist Alex Jones begged his viewers to donate to him on Thursday after he was ordered to pay more than $4 million to the parents of a child killed in the Sandy Hook massacre, which he once claimed was a hoax, as an economist testifies in court that he and his company are worth $270 million. In a video posted Thursday to Infowars.com, Jones said the amount he's ordered to pay is 'more than my company has [and] more than I personally have,' claiming 'we are so broke.' Jones told viewers it's their responsibility to keep him and his company afloat, saying in the video 'if you don't fund us... we will shut down' and telling them 'it's your decision' whether Infowars shuts down. He added the company 'can barely keep the crew employed' due to their financial issues, but his website was found to have made over $800,000 a day during their peak in 2017, though Jones called that their best day ever.  Alex Jones released a video asking his viewers to help fund him, and said...
Infowars owner Alex Jones begged his followers to buy InfoWars products after a jury ordered him to pay $4.1 million in compensatory damages to the parents of a 6-year-old murdered in the Sandy Hook shooting. Jones repeatedly spread conspiracy theories about the shooting that left 20 children dead, calling the massacre a hoax and its victims and their families “crisis actors.” The parents in this case, Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, testified about being threatened and harassed thanks to those conspiracies. Jones has since admitted his claims about Sandy Hook were not true. “I admitted I was wrong,” said Jones in a video posted to InfoWars’ website on Thursday following the judgement. “I admitted I made a mistake. I admitted that I followed disinformation, but not on purpose. I apologized to the families.” “And the jury understood that. What I did to those families is wrong but I didn’t do it on purpose,” he said. The Infowars host made sure to blast the judge in the case, complaining that she repeatedly told the jury during the trial that he was...
HELSINKI (AP) — Norway’s 85-year-old King Harald V has been admitted to a hospital in the capital Oslo due to an examination relating to fever, the Norwegian palace said in a brief statement Thursday. “His Majesty The King was admitted to Rikshospitalet today for investigation for fever,” the royal household said, adding that the monarch’s condition is stable. Rikshospitalet is part of the Oslo University Hospital, the main hospital in Oslo. In March, Harald tested positive for COVID-19, with mild symptoms. He went through a successful operation to replace a heart valve in October 2020 after being hospitalized with breathing difficulties. Harald’s duties as Norway’s head of state are ceremonial, and he holds no political power. He ascended to the throne following the death of his father, King Olav, on Jan. 17, 1991. Sandy Hooks shooting denier Alex Jones has finally admitted that the most deadly school massacre in American history wasn't a hoax after 10 years of causing victims' parents 'utter misery.' The InfoWars host squirmed and sweated in his seat at trial after agreeing it was irresponsible of him to declare the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre a hoax and that he now believes it was '100% real.'  Hours after 26 people were shot and killed at a school in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012, Jones began spouting false claims that the killings didn't happen.  And now more than 10 years later, the conspiracy theorists' comments are catching up with him as he's being held accountable in court.  A 12-person jury will now decide how much he owes the devastated victims' parents for damage and harm his lies have caused them over the span of a decade.  Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones finally folds: After peddling lies about America's deadliest school shooting Sandy Hooks, he admitted in trial today that it was '100% real' after causing insurmountable stress to victims' families for nearly...

In May 2021, prosecutors said that Robinson approached the teen in his vehicle while she was sitting on the steps near a group home where she lived. Robinson told the teen that he was a pimp and referred to himself as “Youngblood.” Despite the teen informing Robinson that she was a minor, he asked for her phone number and sent her a text message  The following day, Robinson picked up the teen from the group home and brought her to his residence, which he admitted to doing on multiple occasions. A woman who formerly worked at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital as a nurse has pled guilty to drug fraud charges, federal officials said. Angelica Franklin, 36, of Chesterfield admitted that a month after starting work in the hospital in 2021, she entered fraudulent orders for fentanyl and hydromorphone into the hospital's electronic records, according to the Department of Justice. Pretending as if physicians actually ordered the controlled substances, Franklin then obtained the drugs, but never administered them to any patients, officials said.  Within this trial, Franklin also admitted to unlawfully obtaining a multitude of controlled substances from Stony Point Surgery Center, Vibra Hospital, and The Laurels of Willow Creek, as well, law enforcement reported.  Federal officials said within all of Franklin's crimes, she obtained approximately 4,450 mcg of fentanyl, 80 mg of hydromorphone, 3,600 mg of oxycodone, and 14 mg of alprazolam. With her court date set for November 10, a federal district judge will determine Franklin's sentence within a maximum penalty of four years, officials said.

OAKLAND — A woman has been charged with advertising drugs online, after the mother of a 21-year-old overdose victim told police that her son got the drugs from an Instagram account authorities say was operated by the defendant. Chynna Crosby, of Oakland, was charged in federal court with advertising controlled substances on the internet, a federal offense that carries a maximum four-year prison term. The complaint was unsealed July 21, the same day Crosby made her first court appearance and was released on an unsecured $50,000 bond, court records show. The criminal complaint alleges that the 21-year-old man died of fentanyl and Xanax intoxication in August 2020. His mother told authorities she believed he bought the drugs from someone using the Instagram handle “ceeepaysoo” and investigators found a direct message conversation where the man asked for “3b,” believed to be slang for prescription pills. Authorities searched Crosby’s home in February 2021 after tying her to the account. The complaint alleges she denied direct involvement in the drug deal that preceded the fatal overdose but admitted to driving “a friend” to...
A Baltimore man has been sentenced to federal prison after possessing enough fentanyl to kill more than two million people, federal officials announced. Rajeim Ali Bradshaw, 49, was sentenced on Friday, July 29 after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute large quantities of fentanyl and heroin, according to the Department of Justice. He was sentenced to 136 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, prosecutors said. On June 20, 2019, prosecutors said Baltimore County police executed a search warrant at Bradshaw's home, recovering 5.5 kilograms of fentanyl. That amount of fentanyl is enough to kill 2,275,000 people, according to officials. During the search, officers also found items consistent with manufacturing and distributing the drugs, including a respiratory mask that contained Bradshaw's DNA. Bradshaw would use cell phones to communicate to customers that he had drugs available for sale with coded messages telling buyers that the "grill" or "restaurant" was open, according to the report. Bradshaw also admitted that multiple firearms and ammunition that were seized in the investigation were utilized as a part of...
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two people in Wisconsin who believe false claims that the 2020 election was marred by widespread fraud admitted they broke state election law by requesting absentee ballots for others in an attempt to underscore vulnerabilities in the state’s voter website, according to a local sheriff. Racine County Sheriff Scott Schmaling issued a statement Thursday saying that two people contacted his office saying they believe the state’s My Vote Wisconsin website, which facilitates absentee ballot requests, is vulnerable to fraud. Schmaling, a Republican who has accused state officials of violating election laws, did not release the two people’s names. Neither has been charged, and he gave no indication that they were under investigation, instead using the cases to attack the state Elections Commission. However, one man, first identified by the Wisconsin State Journal as Harry Wait, president of local advocacy group HOT Government that promotes honest, open and transparent government, acknowledged to The Associated Press that he ordered 10 ballots for people, including Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Racine Mayor Cory Mason. Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) ripped Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) over his criticisms of the Jan. 6 committee hearings after he admitted he hasn’t actually watched any of them. Cheney is one of two Republicans who serve on the panel, and she has greatly jeopardized her seat by taking then-President Donald Trump to task over his actions (and inaction) that day. Appearing on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Monday, Cotton tore into the committee investigating the January 2021 Capitol insurrection. In particular, he cited Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to seat two members nominated to serve on the committee by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. As a result, the House GOP withdrew from the process, and Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) are the only Republicans on the committee. This happened after Senate Republicans blocked a measure to create an independent and bipartisan commission to examine the insurrection. “It was clear in Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to seat Jim Jordan and Jim Banks as Republican members of that committee, a break with precedent going back to the beginning of the...

Between 2017 and 2019, Gonzalez admitted to coercing three underage girls to engage in sexual activity, through a social media application. In one specific instance, prosecutors said that one victim’s profile stated that she was 18 years old, but advised Gonzalez that she was actually 16. Prosecutors said that Gonzalez also convicted the teen to sneak out of a hotel...

Detectives say the illegal alien charged with rape admitted to raping a 10-year-old girl who traveled from Ohio to Indiana to have an abortion two times. The girl’s mother, in an interview with Telemundo, is seemingly defending him. As Breitbart News reported, 27-year-old illegal alien Gerson Fuentes has been arrested and charged with raping a 10-year-old girl who then became pregnant. The girl’s case was later cited by President Joe Biden and the establishment media after she traveled to Indiana from Ohio to have an abortion on June 30 at six weeks and three days pregnant. In court proceedings, Franklin County, Ohio, detectives said Fuentes admitted to twice raping the girl who had recently turned 10, indicating that the girl was likely raped when she was just nine-years-old. Three days before the 2020 election, Steve Bannon explained that Donald Trump could not lose. Because if he did lose, Trump intended to declare victory anyway. Then Trump would use the power of his position to simply overturn the election results. Mother Jones has laid their hands on more than an hour of audio recordings between Bannon and supporters of exiled Chinese oligarch and Mar-a-Lago member Guo Wengui. The recording was made on the evening of Oct. 31, 2020, at a point when the polls showed President Joe Biden about to easily defeat Trump.  In that recording, Bannon lays everything—everything—out neatly for the group of mostly Chinese immigrants. After explaining the electoral process and how Trump had worked to ensure that Republicans would use mail-in ballots less than Democrats, Bannon rolled straight into how that could be turned into a means of stealing the election.  “What Trump’s gonna do, is just declare victory,“ said Bannon. “Right? He’s gonna declare victory. But that doesn’t mean he’s a winner. He’s just gonna say he’s a winner.”  Counting mail-in ballots, said Bannon, put Democrats at “a natural disadvantage. And...

A Capital District man has learned his fate after admitting that he sold large quantities of methamphetamine and stole other people’s identity. Albany resident Matthan Carroll, age 36, was sentenced to 94 months - or nearly eight years - in prison Thursday, July 7, in federal court in Albany. It followed his guilty plea to multiple charges, including distribution of methamphetamine, making fake government identification documents, and aggravated identity theft. Carroll admitted to selling 277 grams of meth and sending a portion of the drug through the US mail system, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District. Prosecutors said Carroll opened a Clifton Park PO Box using another person’s identity without their permission in order to receive mailed shipments of meth. He also admitted to making two fake government ID documents, prosecutors said. He was finally busted after an investigation that involved multiple agencies, including the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the US Postal Inspection Service. In addition to his prison sentence, Carroll will also have to complete three years of supervised release.
The man indicted on charges of opening fire inside a Western Maryland machine shop last month, killing three co-workers, told a sheriff’s deputy he pulled the trigger. Joe Louis Esquivel, 23, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, was indicted on 34 counts in connection with the June 9 shooting at Columbia Machine, in the rural community of Smithsburg. He allegedly worked until he left the building to retrieve a weapon, went back inside and fired on employees near a breakroom. Court records show Esquivel was indicted June 29 on charges including first- and second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault and several gun-related charges. According to charging documents filed after Esquivel was initially arrested and charged, state Esquivel shot and killed three co-workers on the machine shop floor. Another employee was in a break room looking at his phone when he was shot before running outside to a field, where he identified Esquivel as the person who shot him. That employee survived the shooting. Investigators say Esquivel drove away. A witness described seeing Esquivel being stopped by Maryland State Police at a traffic circle....

The gunman in Monday’s massacre at a Fourth of July parade in the Illinois city of Highland Park admitted he carried out the attack, killing seven and wounding dozens of others, prosecutors said in court Wednesday. Robert E. Crimo III, 21, told authorities in a voluntary statement that he “looked down his sights, aimed and opened fire” on paradegoers, emptying two 30-round magazines before loading his weapon with a third and firing again, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon alleged during a virtual bail hearing. A judge ordered Crimo, who appeared at the hearing wearing black, to be held without bail on seven charges of first-degree murder. A conviction would result in a sentence of life imprisonment without parole, but more charges could be filed in the future, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “For each individual that was hurt, people can anticipate an attempted murder charge as well as an aggravated battery with a firearm charge,” Rinehart said in a news conference following the hearing. He added: “Every time he fires a bullet at an individual, he...

Getty A close-up of an engagement ring at an event. Quite a few successful couples have come out of “Bachelor in Paradise” since “The Bachelor” spinoff debuted in 2014, and some pairings have been quite surprising. Perhaps one of the most unlikely success stories involves Dean Unglert and Caelynn Miller-Keyes, who connected during season 6. As Us Weekly detailed, Unglert broke up with Miller-Keyes on her birthday during filming, but he later returned and asked for another chance. They have been together since then, and they have talked openly about getting both engaged and married. However, Unglert frequently says things about his relationship with Miller-Keyes that later need clarification, and that was the case when he recently discussed engagement rings. She joined Unglert and Jared Haibon for the June 26 episode of their podcast, “Help! I Suck at Dating,” and she had a lot she wanted to say about this and their relationship as a whole.
