Serena Williams knew that defeat was a possibility against Emma Raducanu at the Cincinnatti Open. But not even she would have anticipated it to be as brutal as this. The 19-year-old US Open champion swept the retiring Williams aside in just over an hour, winning 6-4 6-0 in a merciless and composed display. It was one of the best displays she has given since winning the US Open last year. There were no words of goodbye or tears on the court in the aftermath, unlike in Toronto last week when Williams lost to Belinda Bencic. She promptly gathered her things and walked off court with a wave to the crowd that were still cheering her as if she had won. 'I think we all need to honor Serena and her amazing career, Raducanu said afterwards. 'I am so grateful for the experience to have played her and for our careers to have crossed over. It was an honor to share the court with her.' MORE TO FOLLOW  Jack Bezants Host commentator 01:20 That's all -...

'Basically, all I want to say is that it takes a brain and common sense and fifth grade biology level understanding to realise that this is blatantly unfair. It's completely obvious,' she said. Anything else? In a matter allegedly related to Hardesty's defund-the-police push, in December she sued the police union, its former president, and an officer for $5 million after being falsely linked to a hit-and-run crash, KPTV said in a separate story. A motorist in March 2021 told police Hardesty hit her vehicle, and the suit claims then-Portland Police Association President Brian Hunzenker leaked the false allegation to other city employees and the media, the station said, adding that Hunzenker later resigned. The suit also claims Officer Kerri Ottoman spread the allegation to a political action committee, KPTV said. Hardesty was ruled out as a suspect the day after the crash, the station reported, adding that police earlier this year called their actions a misunderstanding. However, Hardesty’s attorney said the leaks were motivated by the commissioner’s race and her opposition to police practices, KPTV said. (H/T: The Police Tribune)
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged two people with multiple felonies connected with an animal cruelty case from late last year. The Bloomington Police Department last November reported that a dog was found in the city with “obvious injuries” to its face and body. According to police, the investigation has determined that two people left the dog near a road in the area of 106th Street and Morgan Avenue. Police say they shot a BB gun at the dog and backed over the animal as they left the area. Investigators said that there was blood inside the vehicle, along with more BBs, evidence that something happened inside the vehicle. “This isn’t just something minor,” Bloomington Detective George Harms said at the time of the incident. “It’s pretty serious. Surprisingly the dog was able to survive.” Police said the vehicle used during the animal cruelty incident was stolen, and was recovered in St. Paul. The dog’s veterinary care included eye removal surgery and procedures to remove the BB pellets from its right leg and other body...
BuzzFeed has been hit with an $8.7million compensation claim by current and former employees who allege the company botched its public stock debut, meaning they were unable to sell shares until their value had tanked by 60 per cent.  In two arbitration claims, the employees argued BuzzFeed had failed to provide workers with proper instruction on how to proceed with trading their shares after the initial public offering (IPO) in December. Shares debuted at $10 each, but their value quickly slumped, and remained at $4.64 per share at the closing bell on Tuesday.   Some staff claim they were unable to offload their shares for several days, resulting in a 60 percent decline in stock value by the time they sold. Others allege they are still unable to sell their shares. The complaints, which were obtained by the New York Times, allege the 'Kafkaesque tribulations through which the claimants were dragged have wreaked havoc on their financial lives.' BuzzFeed, however, has denied the allegations and argues 'there is no merit to the claims' outlined in the complaints. The site was hailed...

Two women who learned from an Ancestry.com DNA test that they were switched at birth in 1964 are suing an Oklahoma hospital for the damaging mixup.  Tina Ennis and Jill Lopez, now 57, were both born at Duncan Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, on May 18, 1964 — but somehow, they claim, each was handed off to the other's biological parents. According to the Daily Beast, the two women and their families went 55 years without knowing the truth, until Ennis sent her DNA off to Ancestry.com and got some confusing results. With some help from her daughter and a bit of internet sleuthing, Ennis tracked down Lopez, who took her own DNA test and confirmed that she is the actual biological daughter of Ennis' mother, Kathryn Jones. Now Ennis, Lopez, and Jones are suing Duncan Regional Hospital (which merged with Duncan Physicians and Surgeons Hospital in 1975) for recklessness and negligent infliction of emotional distress.  Two women who learned from an Ancestry.com DNA test that they were switched at birth in 1964 are suing an Oklahoma hospital for the damaging mixup (Tina Ennis pictured left,...
Love is in the airwaves!  At least, that’s what the marketing gurus at CNN‘s parent company Warner Media would have viewers believe, despite the network recently ousting former CEO Jeff Zucker over an inappropriate romance with a junior staffer.  A tweet sent on Monday to celebrate the day dedicated to love depicted Jake Tapper on the set of his Washington D.C. studio with the breaking news. 'This just in: love is in the air! #ValentinesDay.
