Ethereum is the world's second-biggest cryptocurrency, and it's giving bitcoin a run for its money.Getty Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market value, just ran a final dress rehearsal ahead of a years-awaited upgrade that's been billed as one of the most important events in the history of crypto. Since its creation almost a decade ago, ethereum has been mined through a so-called proof-of-work model. It involves complex math equations that massive numbers of machines race to solve, and it requires an abundance of energy. Bitcoin mining follows a similar process. Ethereum has been working to shift to a new model for securing the network called proof of stake. Rather than relying on energy-intensive mining, the new method requires users to leverage their existing cache of ether as a means to verify transactions and mint tokens. It uses far less power and is expected to translate into faster transactions. Ansgar Dietrichs, a researcher with the Ethereum Foundation, said in a tweet that the most relevant metric for success when it comes to a dry run like this is looking at time to finalization....
Justin Stevich Accused Of Impersonating An Officer, Trying To Kidnap 2 Girls In Fort Collins FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) — Fort Collins police have arrested a 39-year-old man after two teenaged girls accused him of attempted kidnapping and impersonation of an officer. The incident took place in late 2021, however Justin Stevich wasn’t arrested until February 2022. Justin Svetich (credit: Larimer County Sheriff) Assistant Chief Tim Doran said detectives spent months investigating the incident before determining the suspect was Stevich. “I think anytime we have an attempted kidnapping, nothing could be more higher on our list of priorities,” Doran told CBS4’s Dillon Thomas. Doran said the investigation started after an emergency call was placed from a phone near Twin Silos Park. (credit: CBS) Doran said two teenage girls were walking near the park at nighttime when a Stevich approached them in a black sedan. The teens reported that he got out of the car and tried to talk with them. “At first he was trying to tell them it wasn’t a safe time to be walking around and he...
One of President Joe Biden's recent judicial nominees once compared laws prohibiting convicts from casting a ballot to 'slavery' and denounced certain election security measures as 'voter suppression.' Nancy Gbana Abudu, a progressive attorney from Georgia, is the deputy legal director for strategic litigation at the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she focuses on voting rights.  She was previously at the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, and also worked at the ACLU's Voting Rights Project. Abudu was nominated by Biden on December 23 to serve on the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, covering Alabama, Florida and Georgia. If confirmed she would be the first black female judge to serve on that bench.  'As we've seen in the cases of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, [the US criminal justice system is] a criminal justice system that can literally kill you,' Abudu once wrote in a post on the ACLU's website. 'When you add laws that prohibit people with a criminal conviction from voting, it's practically the same system as during slavery – Black...
By Dan Whitcomb | Reuters Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, responding to what he called “bullying” by the Biden Administration, on Monday barred all COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the state by any entity, including private employers. Abbott’s move sets him up for a clash with President Joe Biden, a Democrat who last month called on businesses nationwide to order their workers to be vaccinated or lose their jobs. At least several thousand people have since been fired for refusing to comply. “In another instance of federal overreach, the Biden Administration is now bullying many private entities into imposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates, causing workforce disruptions that threaten Texas’ continued recovery from the COVID-19 disaster,” Abbott said in an executive order. The White House had no immediate comment. Abbott’s order states that “no entity in Texas” could compel proof of vaccination by any individual, including employees or customers. He called on state lawmakers to take up the issue in an upcoming special session. Tech giants Facebook Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google have both told employees that they would need proof of vaccination...
Veterinary nurse Sarah Woodward was at work when she received a phone call to say her best friend’s father had died.  ‘I’d known him for 45 years,’ says Sarah, from Worthing, West Sussex. ‘It was like losing my own father.’ Before she’d even put the phone down, a stabbing pain started in her chest. It then radiated through her back, into her jaw and down her left arm.  She started to struggle to breathe and turned the colour of chalk — all classic signs of a heart attack. Sarah, 54, was, however, exceptionally fit, doing at least ten hours of exercise a week, including kickboxing. She didn’t smoke, cooked from scratch every day with husband Kevin, 58, a gas engineer, and drank alcohol only once a week. So it never crossed her mind that she was having a heart attack. Instead, she thought it was just a panic attack or that she’d pulled a muscle while exercising. A colleague, however, called an ambulance and, a few hours later, tests revealed it was something else entirely. Sarah had broken...
A “TIME-traveller from the year 5000” bizarrely claims that he has photo proof that shows the destruction of humanity. The mysterious bloke, known only as Edward, boasted during a secret interview that he had pictures showing Los Angeles under water. 2 The man, called Edward, says he has proof of his trip to the futureCredit: ApexTV A video posted on ApexTV showed Edward describing what led him to 'time travel', as he sat in what is assumed to be an Armenian park. His face was hidden and his voice distorted as he claimed to be part of a top secret experiment in 2004. That so-called test was what gave him the chance to travel through time, he claimed. During his shock admission he pulled out a pic from his jacket and said it was snapped 3,000 years in the future. 2 The photo was claimed to show LA under water 3,000 years in the futureCredit: ApexTV It apparently showed a submerged Los Angeles - lying deep under water. He said: "I will tell you a story which will amaze you...
A couple who claim a ghost called 'Dave' is haunting their house appear to have captured proof on their home security camera.  Ben Hubbard, a PE teacher, and his partner Lainey Clark, a primary school teacher, moved into a three-story townhouse in Buckinghamshire in 2018 but claimed they soon started to notice strange movements around the house.   They decided to try and catch their supposed poltergeist on CCTV and installed a camera in their kitchen - which captured footage of items inexplicably flying out of the drawer.  Ben Hubbard and Lainey Clark (pictured) claim a ghost called 'Dave' is haunting their house  and appear to have captured proof on their home security camera In a spooky clip recorded at 11.29am on May 14 - when the pair were at work - the camera showed an empty kitchen when one of the drawers slowly opened by itself. Lawmakers and local leaders are in a frenzy over the prospect of coronavirus vaccine passports as Republicans denounce it as the 'mark of the beast' and GOP governors weigh banning it. Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican denounced the potential program as President Joe Biden's 'mark of the beast' while former GOP congressman turned libertarian said it's dystopian. Greene said in a video Monday: 'They want you to be required to have something called a COVID passport. And this would mandate your ability to be able travel, your ability to be able to go to events, your ability to be able to buy and sell.' 'Is this something like Biden's mark of the beast? Because that's really disturbing and not good,' she continued. In a tweet she wrote: 'They are actually talking about people's ability to buy and sell linked to the vaccine passport. They might as well call it Biden's Mark of the Beast.' Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went a step further by claiming he will take executive action banning businesses and local governments in the state from...
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell has announced plans to release a three-hour film called 'Absolute Proof', falsely claiming a Chinese cyberattack 'flipped' the election. The Donald Trump supporter said the movie will be out Friday on cable TV after describing the Republican's presidential defeat as a 'communist coup'.  Lindell, 59, who founded the bedding company, told The Revival Channel YouTube: 'Coming Friday, I have put together this documentary, it’s three hours long, that shows every, 100%, the theft by China and these other countries, this cyberattack on our country here, that took, that flipped votes.' Dominion Voting Systems has already threatened to sue Lindell over him pushing conspiracy theories about its ballot counting machines.  There is no evidence of election fraud involving Dominion or any other entity, with dozens of lawsuits filed by Trump and his supporters tossed, recounts coming up with the same vote counts and the Trump administration even admitting the election was legal and fair.  Dominion already filed a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit on Monday against Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who led the former president's efforts to challenge...
The Rev. Raphael Warnock hosted controversial preacher Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s former pastor, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in 2014, Fox News reported. Warnock is running in the January 5 Georgia U.S. Senate runoff against incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA). Fox News based its story on an event flyer announcing guest speaking by Wright, who has a history of making antisemitic statements. There were other speakers as well. The flyer is available here. Warnock for years has praised Wright, such as in a 2008 interview on Fox News, despite being asked about Wright’s “God Damn America” sermons. Wright, Obama’s pastor for at least 20 years, made the infamous remark while blaming America for the 9/11 attacks. The Rev. Dr. Carolyn Ann Knight, professor at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, was one of the other speakers at the 2014 event with Wright. She is one of 100 Georgia faith leaders who wrote an open letter endorsing Warnock’s run for the Senate. Meanwhile, Loeffler’s campaign called Warnock out for his long-time praises of...
Jenna Bush Hager has opened up about the friendship she developed with John Kerry's daughters during the 2004 election, when her father George W. Bush was running against the Democratic senator from Massachusetts.  On Thursday morning, while votes were still being counted in key states, the Today host reflected on how she and her twin sister Barbara called Alexandra and Vanessa Kerry to share their condolences after it was revealed that Bush had won a second term 16 years ago.  'The day after election night, which went really late, I'm not sure people remember this is normal, we called them. We just said, "We know that your heart's probably broken because you worked so hard for your dad and you thought he was the best guy,' Jenna, 38, said.   Scroll down for video  Memory: Jenna Bush Hager recalled on the Today show how she and her twin Barbara struck up a friendship with John Kerry's daughters Alexandra and Vanessa during the 2004 election  Stumping: The Bush twins campaigned with their father, former President George H.W. President Donald Trump interrupted a Friday interview with Fox News host Chris Wallace to provide proof that Joe Biden has endorsed defunding the police, but Wallace says the president couldn’t. Footage of the incident aired on Fox shows Trump claim Biden signed a charter with Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders that called for defunding or abolishing the police. Wallace said the charter called for no such thing. Trump then stopped the interview and asked for a copy of the charter as proof, which Wallace says Trump looked through and failed to find any call for abolishing the police. Let’s go. Get me the charter please.”...
