BOSTON (CBS) — Daylight Saving Time started Sunday, allowing Americans to enjoy an extra hour of light in the evenings. But what if the additional sunshine could last all year round? Sen. Ed Markey is making the case again for not changing the clocks at all, and making the time change permanent. The Massachusetts Democrat is partnering with Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in a bipartisan push for longer days. She claims that the GP told her that it looked 'just like a normal mole' and that she needn't worry about it. But scrolling through Instagram one day, Andrea, who lives in Montana, US, noticed someone getting an annual skin check and decided she would see a dermatologist. They immediately found several areas of concern – including the worrying mark above...
THE future of Boris Johnson’s Government needs to be settled in the next few days. We have seen too much chaos, instability and distraction recently. Now we have a police investigation in the mix too.  3If MPs conclude the PM has misled Parliament, then I am afraid there will be no way back 3Sue Gray’s report must be published and judgments must be made Matters need to be brought to a head.  Sue Gray’s report must be published and judgments must be made. Her report may provide evidence to condemn the Prime Minister.  Or it may turn out, as so often before, that his critics have allowed their dislike of Brexit, or of Boris Johnson personally, to blind them to the facts. For my part, I think the Prime Minister of this country should have the right to be believed — unless there is clear contrary evidence.  That is why the Gray report is so important.  MPs will have to draw their own conclusions from it.  Most read in The US SunSOLO STROLL Brad Pitt's new love interest Lykke Li takes...
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, 52, announced that the organization would 'pivot the language' on COVID-19 vaccinations, lining it up with other vaccines  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that it will 'pivot' its language when it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations, meaning that all who are eligible will need booster shots to be considered fully 'up to date.'  CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, 52, announced at a White House press conference on Friday that the organization is working on 'pivoting the language' to match those of other vaccines.  'What we really are working to do is pivot the language to make sure that everybody is as up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as they personally could be, should be, based on when they got their last vaccine,' Walensky said on Friday.  'We really want to make sure people are up to date. That means if you recently got your second dose, you’re not eligible for a booster, you’re up to date. If you are eligible for a booster and you haven’t gotten it, you’re not up to date...

(CNN)Colombia's best-known drug trafficker, Pablo Escobar, may have been killed in 1993 but his influence continues to be felt in the country, sometimes in unexpected ways.Hippopotamuses brought to Colombia as part of Escobar's private zoo at his ranch, Hacienda Napoles, have bred so successfully that there is serious concern over their environmental impact and human safety, according to a new study by researchers at Mexican and Colombian universities. The hippos have spread out from their original home, some 100 miles east of the city of Medellin, in the Antioquia department, dispersing around the Magdalena river basin as their population continues to grow steadily. Some hippos remain at Escobar's Hacienda Napoles, which is now a theme park. The authors of the study, published in the January edition of the journal Biological Conservation, recommend that the hippos be culled to prevent long-term negative effects, but other scientists are calling for a castration program to control the hippo population, citing concerns over animal welfare and the attachment of some locals to their new neighbors.Back in the 1980s, Escobar imported one male and three female hippos to...
America is a tinderbox. A smouldering, snarling, hyper-partisan, violent tinderbox. And decisions taken in the next few days and weeks will determine whether that tinderbox explodes or not – now or some place down the road. I've lived and worked in the United States on and off for 15 years. It's a country I've grown to love as a second home. But right now, I've never been more worried for its future. Three events in the past year have led to this breaking point: the coronavirus pandemic, George Floyd's killing, and Donald Trump's refusal to accept the result of the 2020 Election. Americans are now fearful, for both their health and prosperity, mournful for all those lost to COVID-19, resentful and distrusting of their Government, and, increasingly, at dangerously enraged loggerheads with each other. The appalling riots at the US Capitol last week represented the moment all the toxic tribalism fuelled by Trump erupted in a direct attack on the very heart of US democracy. The more we learn of what went on that day, the worst it gets. A...
I KNOW I wasn’t the only one to feel tearful seeing people receive the Covid vaccination on “V-Day” yesterday morning. Ninety-year-old Maggie Keenan made history by being the very first person injected with a vaccine that will change the world and hopefully allow us to get back to some kind of normal life in the New Year. ⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates 10Jack Vokes celebrated as he received the coronavirus vaccine yesterdayCredit: PA:Press Association 10The 98-year-old was one of the first recipients in BristolCredit: AP:Associated Press 10Maggie Keenan made history as the first Brit to receive the life-saving jabCredit: Reuters Maggie described her jab as a very welcome early birthday present to celebrate turning 91 next week. Seeing her sitting happily in her splendid penguin Christmas jumper encouraging everyone to be inoculated was truly inspiring and behind her mask she was obviously beaming with joy. I also loved the fact the first man to receive the vaccine was called William Shakespeare, instantly inciting all sorts of puns, including, “For he’s a jolly...
Washington (CNN)Former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday outlined his plan to address the coronavirus pandemic, including providing free vaccines to all Americans, as he began delivering his closing argument to voters. "Once we have a safe and effective vaccine, it has to be free to everyone, whether or not you're insured," the Democratic presidential nominee said in a speech in Wilmington, Delaware. He said that if elected, he would direct the federal government to "bulk-purchase as many doses as necessary of the Covid-19 vaccine so we can provide it free to those who are uninsured, under-insured or Medicaid-eligible."Eleven days from Election Day, Biden homed in on his four main priorities to combat the pandemic. In addition to distributing a free vaccine, he said, he would ask governors to mandate masks in their states, put a national testing plan in place and increase the production and distribution of personal protective equipment. In each section of his speech, a screen behind him provided visuals to illustrate his argument. As he spoke about mandating masks, for example, pictures of people wearing masks appeared onscreen. UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan said in an address to the United Nations on Tuesday any future COVID-19 vaccine should be universally available, regardless of where it is produced. "I am calling from here once again for the procurement of medical equipment and medicine, and vaccine efforts not to be made into a topic of competition," Erdogan said in a video address to the U.N. General Assembly, which is holding a virtual meeting because of the global coronavirus pandemic. "No matter what country they are produced in, vaccines that are made ready to be administered should be presented to the common use of humanity," he said. Pope Francis on Wednesday urged countries to provide coronavirus vaccines for everyone when they become available. “It would be sad if, for the vaccine for COVID-19, priority were to be given to the richest! It would be sad if this vaccine were to become the property of this nation or another, rather than universal and for all,” Francis said during his weekly general audience. Francis's comments came a day after the World Health Organization warned that some countries might hoard vaccines in what Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus termed as "vaccine nationalism." Francis in his speech, part of a monthly series on the wider effects of the coronavirus, said that, although finding a vaccine is essential, curing the virus of "social injustice, inequality of opportunity, marginalization, and the lack of protection for the weakest" was ultimately what world leaders should draw from the crisis. “The pandemic is a crisis, and we do not emerge from a crisis the same as before: either we come out of it better, or we come out of it worse," he said. "We must come...
