BALTIMORE — The Orioles moved their left-field fence back 26.5 feet before this season, maybe hoping to contain Gleyber Torres. It may be more difficult to go over that fence now, but Torres is still tormenting the Orioles. Monday night, he reached base a career-high tying four times as the Yankees beat the Birds. It’s not just the Orioles anymore, though, as Torres has been putting up good numbers for the last week before coming into Camden Yards to see his favorite victims. Heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Orioles, Torres was hitting  .412/.500/.588 with three runs scored and a home run in his previous five games. “I think first of all, he’s hit better than his number suggests. He’s done well, he’s hit some balls out of the ballpark. Obviously, he’s got a number of big hits. . . but I feel like his quality and contact has absolutely been there throughout,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “And that dates back to spring training. I felt like he was from the get go, kind of having good at-bats,...

Russia has lost almost 10,000 soldiers in less than four weeks in Ukraine, according to its own figures. The death toll – an incredible tally for a war that the Kremlin believed would be over within days – was published by a pro-government website, but quickly taken down. There was speculation that it was uploaded by a pro-Ukrainian employee. Russia had previously admitted to 498 deaths – but that was on March 2. Last night’s figures said 9,861 soldiers had died in Ukraine, with 16,153 injured. About 15,000 Soviet troops died in Afghanistan after the 1979 invasion – but that was over ten years.  Ukraine has put the Russian dead at 15,000 – but the latest figures are higher than US estimate of 7,000. The death toll was part of an update from Moscow’s defence ministry – and, while they were quickly removed from the website of Komsomolskaya Pravda, a pro-government tabloid, they remained on the archive last night. Though the figures offer an insight into Ukraine’s military successes, there were signs last night that the war was turning Russia’s...
WWE Raw is live on Monday night on Feb. 7 as per usual but pro wrestling fans might not find the show on USA Network like usual this week. That means we’re going to see a lot on WWE Raw leading up to the big PPV event that will take place in Saudi Arabia. With that being said, there normally isn’t a big search for Raw on Monday nights. When the Miami Dolphins pulled off a stunning upset of the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 11, reaching this point appeared realistic. With a defense that began showing its true potential and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returning to health, the path back to .500 at 7-7 was there given the schedule: A home-and-home against the New York Jets and home games against the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. The Dolphins won all those games for a total of six straight to reach that 7-7 mark. Now, the true test begins to determine if Miami can prove itself a team worthy of vying for a playoff spot or if it’s merely a unit that battled back to .500 for a hot second against an easy part of the schedule and that’s that. It begins with the Dolphins taking their winning streak into the Superdome for Monday Night Football and an 8:15 p.m. kickoff in New Orleans against the Saints. A win there keeps Miami’s playoff hopes alive with games at the Tennessee Titans and home against the New England...

A man was killed Monday night in a shooting by Ontario police, authorities said. Officers responded about 5 p.m. to a report of a woman yelling for help at a Quality Inn at 514 N. Vineyard Ave., said Officer Eliseo Guerrero, a spokesman for the Ontario Police Department. The hotel is located near Ontario International Airport. When they arrived, officers encountered a man and an injured woman inside a room, Guerrero said. At some point, the officers opened fire, he said. The man was declared dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries she suffered before officers arrived, Guerrero said. While searching the room, officers found narcotics and had to vacate the premises so a hazardous materials team could clear the room for reentry, he said. Further information, including whether the man was armed, what prompted officers to shoot and how many officers fired their guns, was not available late Monday night.

It turns out Mark Meadows may have good reason to not want to turn over all of the communications on two personal phones and two Gmail accounts. After the Jan. 6 Committee disclosed just a few choice text messages between Meadows and Fox News hosts, an anonymous lawmaker, and Donald Trump Jr. about the insurrection, the battle for all of Meadows’ communications has taken on new meaning. And Meadows’ assertions of executive privilege are undermined by a law he should know well. Former President Trump’s chief of staff is refusing to turn over some personal emails, text messages, and encrypted chats by claiming that his old boss still retains some executive privilege over them. But if that’s the case, the Jan. 6 Committee is now arguing, then Meadows should have turned those communications over to the National Archives on his way out the White House door. “It appears that Mr. Meadows may not have complied with legal requirements to retain or archive documents under the Presidential Records Act,” reads a committee report released Sunday night. The report noted a...

Coincidentally, the last time Jacobs took the field was on Monday Night Football in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. In what was a wildly thrilling game, the Raiders won 33-27 in overtime. In the game, Jacobs carried the ball 10 times for 34 yards and two touchdowns. He also added one catch for six yards. Unfortunately, it was also during that game where he sustained the injury that would sideline him for two weeks. Raiders: Josh Jacobs to play in MNFJacobs will be joining one of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL. During his time in recovery, the Raiders defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-17 and the Miami Dolphins 31-28 in another overtime game. ESPN did away with its traditional doubleheader to start the season, so that means the start time for the 17 "Monday Night Football" will be uniform. This week's matchup will feature a divisional clash between the Packers and the Lions. Green Bay will host Detroit at Lambeau Field, as it looks to overcome a crushing 38-3 loss to the Saints in Week 1. Meanwhile, the Lions scored 33 points in a 41-33 loss to the 49ers. If you had said that the Lions would outscore the Packers by 30 points before Week 1, people would have thought you were crazy. That's football for you. BOSTON (CBS) — Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had plenty of battles on the football field, with Brady usually coming out on top. Now, Manning is even admitting defeat off the field. Manning and his brother Eli kicked off their careers calling Monday Night Football in Week 1, giving fans an extremely entertaining alternate broadcast of Monday night’s Ravens-Raiders game on ESPN2. Early in the contest, Peyton took a shot at Brady for the Tampa Bay quarterback’s opposition of the NFL’s new jersey rule, which Brady has lambasted since it was announced in April. Brady has made it clear that he is not a fan of defensive backs and linebackers wearing single digits on the back of their jerseys. Early in the broadcast, Manning called out Brady’s opposition of the rule, taking a jab at his former rival. “The reason he’s saying that is offensive linemen are used to accounting for guys wearing No. 90 or No. 50. They’re not used to accounting for guys who wear No. 9 or No 6. He’s worried about guys getting confused about who...

Oakland is experiencing a 'safety emergency' after a wave of violence over the July 4 weekend, the city's police chief said on Monday. LeRonne Armstrong described '12 hours of nonstop chaos,' telling reporters that his department had responded to seven shootings from Sunday night to 10 a.m Monday. 'When the yellow tape is gone and when the streets are cleaned up, there is still hurt and pain and tragedy in our community.' 'I hope that we can put politics aside and put public safety first,' Armstrong said, adding that his force was 'clearly outnumbered' by the incidents. The department said several people were critically injured and one killed in the shootings, which come amid a steep rise in violent crime in the Californian city. Authorities said that none of the shootings appeared to be related and that some may have been celebratory gunfire.  The first shooting happened at 6:24 p.m. when a 29-year-old was hit multiple times while in his car.  A little over three hours later, 911 calls came in regarding a 16-year-old's celebratory gunfire. The department listed the...
CNN’s Don Lemon caused quite a stir on social media and among CNN viewers on Friday when he announced on his show that it would be the “last night that we’ll be CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.” “So I appreciate all the years of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, but changes are coming. And I will fill you in,” he said at the end of the show. He later put out a video explaining that he was not, in fact, leaving the network, as many obviously understood him to mean. “Everybody calm down. I didn’t see I was leaving CNN, he said. “I’m not leaving CNN.” Although his original comments, and his tweeted clip, said everyone would have to wait for Monday to find out what he was talking about, apparently the pressure was too much and on Saturday he tweeted the explanation. “What I said last night was true. CNN Tonight with Don Lemon is no more,” he said. “I’ll be back on Monday with my newly named show Don Lemon Tonight.” Didn’t mean to set the internet...

BOSTON (CBS) — The ever-tight East Division found some level of resolution over the weekend, as the Penguins locked up the top spot with their win over the Sabres. Pittsburgh is now locked into a first-round playoff series against whichever team finishes in fourth place. That position has not exactly been resolved just yet, but it’s close. The Bruins can end any and all suspense on Monday night. The Bruins enter Monday night’s game against the Islanders with 71 points in the standings. The Islanders have 70. If the Bruins pick up just one point, they’ll clinch the third seed, as they have one more regulation win than the Islanders do. So, if the Bruins make it to overtime and/or beat the Islanders on Monday night, they will guarantee a first-round series against the Washington Capitals. But if the Bruins lose in regulation to the Islanders on Monday, then there will be more that needs to shake out. The Islanders’ season ends on Monday night, so the maximum number of standing points they can reach is 72. Even if the Bruins...

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Monday night crowds are making it apparent that Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood is benefiting big time from the lifting of the countywide curfew. While it was reported earlier this month that not much was expected to change, aside from some potential changes to the league’s Thursday package, there does now seem to be one sticking point that might be throwing a wrench in the plans. According to CNBC’s Alex Sherman, the NFL is looking to essentially double the cost for all of its current network partners, but Disney, who owns ABC and ESPN, is pushing back on that. While the NFL is hoping to get all of their deals done by March 17, which is the start of the new NFL league year, The Mouse might be making that a bit harder to do. Per Sherman, all of the league’s other partners (NBC, CBS, Fox) are expected to accept the...
