    Ogeechee Technical College will offer online options in its Opticianry Associate of Applied Science Degree program beginning this fall.  The online options will be available for those who have an approved mentor and access to an optical facility. “As the only accredited Opticianry program in the state, this is big news for employers in Georgia,” said Jennifer Witherington, Senior Academic Dean, Health Science & Online Learning. “Being able to provide these courses online and having skills approved by mentors off-site allows currently employed assistants and technicians to earn their licenses and increase their pay.” Once students have successfully completed the program and passed the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) exams, they are eligible to complete and submit the application for Licensure Examination to the Georgia State Board of Licensing for Dispensing Opticians, which is comprised of a Contact Lens and Optical Practicum. “Although opticians routinely hire entry-level technicians, very few are licensed, which is required in the state of Georgia and 22 other states....

    A skier suffered a fatal fall Sunday afternoon in Grand Teton National Park's Death Canyon in Wyoming, according to the National Park Service. Grand Teton National Park rangers and Teton County Search and Rescue found Radcliff Spencer, 27, unresponsive after a witness reported seeing Spencer fall while attempting to ski the Apocalypse Couloir, the park service's statement said. VIDEO: US OLYMPIC SKIER SUFFERS SERIOUS LEG INJURY DURING WIPEOUT Resuscitation efforts were performed on Spencer — a Jackson, Wyoming, resident — but they were unsuccessful due to the nature of the injuries, the park service added.     Students representing Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) nine-county service area will participate in two traditional Fall Commencement Ceremonies on Thursday, Dec. 2, to celebrate their success in completing their program of study.   The 2021 Fall Commencement Ceremonies will take place at the Dalton Convention Center. Two separate ceremonies are being held in order to practice social distancing guidelines and accommodate friends and families of the graduates.   The Commencement Ceremony for students in GNTC’s Business and Health programs will begin at 12 p.m.   At 4 p.m., the Commencement Ceremony for students in GNTC’s Industrial and Public Service programs will take place.   At both ceremonies, Dr. Heidi Popham, president of GNTC, will welcome guests and introduce Jeremiah Cooper, GNTC’s 2021 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year, as the keynote commencement speaker.   Jeremiah Cooper has been an instructor at GNTC since 2013.     TELLURIDE, Colo. (CBS4)– One person died after falling from Via Ferrata, a technical climb, in Telluride. The person fell on Thursday. Via Ferrata (credit: Telluride.com) Not much information was provided by the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office but they did confirm the fatality. No information was released about the victim or what happened leading up to the fall. According to Telluride.com, Telluride’s Via Ferrata is not for the faint-hearted, but it’s a must-do for any adrenaline junkie or to-the-core adventure seeker stopping by. At its most intense, you’re suspended on a small iron foothold by a harness at 500 feet. The newly-legal climbing route is technical, breathtaking and exposed on the East end and South-facing wall of Telluride’s boxed canyon.     BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – A young man took a big fall on Wednesday in Boulder and the subsequent rescue operation took several hours in the afternoon. It happened on the back of the first Flatiron close to Chautauqua Park. The man is 19 and the report first came in at noon that he fell 30 feet after scrambling on the rock face. He was badly hurt, and several people came to his aid before first responders reached him. Authorities said the person the man was climbing with heard him fall and called 911. The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group conducted a technical operation with help from Boulder open space rangers to get the climber to the trailhead, where he was taken to the hospital.
