The average gas price in Tennessee continues to be lower than the national average, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). Tennessee’s average gas price of $3.09 Tuesday was one cent lower than the previous day’s average; ten cents lower than the previous week’s average; 24 cents lower than last month’s average; and one cent lower than the average around the same time last November. Despite average national gas prices remaining higher than they were last year, AAA notes that prices have been falling since early August. On Monday, the nation’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.54 – 22 cents less than a month ago and 15 cents more than a year ago around this same time....

IT’S important to maximize your savings even if you happen to find what you think to be a good deal on Black Friday.  During the biggest sales event of the year, shoppers can save up to 75 percent.  2Some shoppers may not be aware of a price match guarantee 2But you'll want to read the fine print of the policy because it can vary by retailer But what some may not be aware of is a policy that major retailers offer known as price match guarantee, as pointed out by TikTok influencer Becky Guiles, also known as the “Freebie Lady.”  What is a price match guarantee? Stores offer this policy to satisfy customers who find the same product sold for a lower price after or even before its purchase.  If this happens and you bring it to their attention, they will refund the difference to you.  It’s important to read the specifics on the terms and conditions to see if one of the stores you are shopping at this Black Friday offers it. by Peter Jacobsen   Anyone who has a car is breathing a sigh of relief this last week. After two years of increasing gas prices, we’ve finally had a significant fall in gas prices. Gas prices are still high at $4.33/gallon (nearly double the $2.18 they were in July of 2020), but there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Since the current administration has taken a great deal of heat over high fuel prices, perhaps it’s no surprise to see the White House taking credit for the lower prices. Earlier this month, President Biden noted that gasoline prices had fallen for 30 consecutive days. “Our actions are working, and prices are coming down,” Biden said days later. However, there is little evidence to indicate the majority of the price drop is due to any particular policy change. This leaves us with an important question. Why exactly are prices falling? Falling Demand? Several outlets have undertaken the task of explaining this price decrease. Some seem to have arrived at an answer that is in the right direction. An article on MarketWatch pinpoints the...

In this article TWTRElon Musk arrives at the In America: An Anthology of Fashion themed Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York, May 2, 2022.Andrew Kelly | ReutersIn the latest twist in the Elon Musk-Twitter saga, the world's richest man told the social media company he no longer intends to buy it. Twitter chairman Bret Taylor promptly fired back that the company intends to go to court to enforce the $44 billion deal's closure at the agreed upon price and terms. Predicting how the drama will ultimately conclude is difficult, especially with the mercurial dealmaker involved. But here are eight possible scenarios.1. Deal ends, Musk pays breakup feeIn theory, this may be the cleanest option for everyone — no litigation, Musk agrees to pay the contract's $1 billion termination fee and Twitter carries on, albeit at a valuation significantly lower than $44 billion. This is the path Twitter co-founder Ev Williams appeared to back when he tweeted that he would be asking if "we can just let this whole ugly episode blow over"...
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently added to speculation that he may be attempting to acquire Twitter at a lower price while speaking in Miami, stating that a viable deal for less money is not “out of the question.” Bloomberg reports that Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently added to rumors that he could be attempting to negotiate a better price on his purchase of Twitter, stating that a deal at a lower price wouldn’t be “out of the question.” His remarks came at a Miami tech conference. Twitter shares fell by 8.2 percent at the close of trading in New York. The stock has been dropping on speculation that Musk could abandon the $44 billion acquisition deal. Concerns over the deal have grown in the past week as Musk has questioned Twitter’s publicly disclosed data relating to bots and spam accounts on the platform. At a Miami tech conference, Musk estimated that the number of fake users on Twiter was at least 20 percent of all Twitter accounts. “Currently what I’m being told is that there’s just no way to know the number...
Elon Musk on Monday fueled speculation he could be seeking to negotiate a lower price for his proposed $44 billion buyout of Twitter, telling a Miami tech conference that an agreement at a lower price wouldn't be 'out of the question.' Musk and Twitter agreed a deal on April 25, but it now appears that Musk could be having second thoughts. On Friday, after weeks of complaining about the company's operations in a series of tweets, he announced he was putting the deal on hold. He then tweeted about his surprise to learn that only 5 percent of Twitter accounts were bots or spam, and on Monday responded with a poop emoji to CEO Parag Agrawal's lengthy thread explaining the problem in trying to detect and eliminate bots. 'So how do advertisers know what they're getting for their money? This is fundamental to the financial health of Twitter,' Musk said. Journalist Molly Jong-Fast replied: 'You're obviously trying to get out of the deal.' Twitter's shares fell 8 percent on Monday to close at $37.39 - significantly below the $54.20 a...

Musk reportedly made the comments while speaking at a summit hosted by Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks and David Friedberg for their "All-In" podcast. Twitter shares briefly regained some of the day's losses before falling again. The stock is down more than 7% for the day investors fear Musk will walk back on his agreement to acquire the social media company for $44 billion. Twitter shares have also erased all gains made since Musk disclosed his investment in the company on April 4, in part thanks to a sell-off late last week. Musk said Friday that the acquisition was "on hold" while he researches the proportion of fake and spam accounts on the platform, which he believes Twitter has misstated. Musk on Monday estimated that fake users...
On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) said there will be “real concern about how out of touch the Republicans are” on abortion, “which raises the issues for voters, if they won’t listen to you on this, are they going to listen to you on anything, on the need to lower the cost of prescription drugs and stand up to big pharma, or lower the price of gas by standing up to big oil?” Hassan stated, “Well, you know, the right of people to make their own personal decisions, their right to bodily autonomy is foundational to everything else. And as we talk about the ways we come together to address the challenges we need to address, including lowering people’s prices, helping people afford things like prescription drugs or child care, they need to know that they have representation in Washington that is actually listening to them. And what we see in my race and what I think we’re seeing around the country on this issue, is candidates for Senate who are wildly out of...
Billionaire Elon Musk is being sued by a Twitter shareholder who claims the Tesla CEO's delay in disclosing his more than 5 percent stake in the social media giant allowed him to buy shares at a lower price. Marc Bain Rasella filed the lawsuit against Musk for alleged securities fraud in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, according to a Bloomberg report.  The suit claims the billionaire was required to disclose his holdings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by March 24, but the delay kept Twitter's share price down allowing Musk to buy more shares at a lower price.  Musk revealed last week that he had become Twitter's largest shareholder, with a 9.2 percent stake in the company.  Rasella said that when Musk finally disclosed his stake in Twitter, the company’s shares went up 27 percent, from $39.31 on April 1 to $49.41.  But due to the delay in Musk's filing, he had already scooped up shares at a deflated prices, the suit alleges.   Since the announcement Twitter's share price has fallen and as of Tuesday morning was trading at $45.83...
New York (CNN Business)America's soaring inflation is inflicting pain on household budgets across the United States. But not everyone is affected in the same way. While economic data shows the general trend of prices, it doesn't tell the story of individual groups, said Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard on Tuesday."Today, inflation is very high, particularly for food and gasoline. All Americans are confronting higher prices, but the burden is particularly great for households with more limited resources," Brainard said at the Minneapolis Fed's Spring 2022 Institute Research Conference.Lower-income households spend 77% of their income on necessities, she said. That compares to only 31% spent on necessities by higher-income households. On top of that, lower-income households have smaller financial cushions and may not be able to switch to lower-priced alternatives as easily, Brainard said.If the price of breakfast cereal increases across the board, for example, a higher-income household that used to buy a brand name product could downshift to a store brand to save money. But a household that already buys the store brand doesn't have the same option.Read MoreDetails beyond the...
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A proposed gas tax rebate, which would provide $400 to all Californian taxpayers, has yet to reach a vote from state lawmakers, but locals are desperate for the financial relief as the gas price increase has stretched wallets thins in recent weeks. The Golden State sports both the highest sales tax — 7.25% general sales — and the highest gas tax – 51.1 cents per gallon. As a result, with the drastically skyrocketing prices since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Democratic leaders proposed the rebate Wednesday afternoon to offer residents a sort of way to get their money back. SINCE the coronavirus pandemic began the housing market has been on fire – but some are wondering where things will stand in 2022. In 2021, average home prices have climbed to $408,800, up from $389,400 in the previous year, according to research and analysis firm Statista.  1Average home prices increased to $408,800 in 2021 The price surge comes as Americans have been looking to take advantage of record-low interest rates despite the financial and health crisis.  However, homes for some have become unaffordable.  Today Americans on average need earnings of $144,192 to be able to afford a home, Clever Real Estate found, as cited by CNBC.  To put that in perspective, the median household income in the nation is only $69,178.  House prices this year have followed the same trend as prices in general across the board in the economy.  Higher prices happen when the supply does not meet the demand, and then inflation is triggered when purchasing value of money declines. LaLiga wants to launch its own television and develop an OTT to offer matches directly, without the filter of another operator, and that is one of the challenges included in the roadmap of the recent agreement signed between LaLiga and CVC Capital Partners, an idea that also has the endorsement of KPMG, publishes this Monday ‘El Confidencial’. The objective would be to launch this OTT to make football cheaper, without going through operators such as Movistar or Orange, holders of the First and Second division rights at present. On June 17, during the 1st . A man wearing a protective face mask walks by 14 Wall Street in the financial district of New York, November 19, 2020.Shannon Stapleton | Reuters A volatile environment for government bonds is reflecting a highly uncertain future for the U.S. economy, pointing to both slower growth and stubborn inflation. After a burst higher earlier this year that scared markets, Treasury yields have fallen back sharply as investors have switched their focus from worries about price increases to the potential that the rapid burst in post-pandemic activity could start to slow down. In the 1970s, the mix of higher prices and lower growth was called "stagflation," a pejorative that has garnered little attention since then as inflation has remained tame over the past few decades. However, the word is coming up more and more these days as the growth picture gets cloudier. "The market is trading on the stagflation theme," said Aneta Markowska, chief financial economist at Jefferies. "There's the idea that these price increases are going to cause demand destruction, cause a policy mistake and ultimately that slows growth." For...

Lumber, for example, has seen one of the most jaw-dropping moves in the space. At its peak in May, it was up more than 90% for the year. It has since reversed and is now down nearly 30% for 2021. This is just the beginning of a broader downturn for commodities, according to Lakshman Achuthan, co-founder of the Economic Cycle Research Institute. Achuthan said it all comes down to cycles and this point of the cycle indicates a move lower. "Cycles in global industrial growth are closely linked to cycles in industrial commodity prices, including lumber," Achuthan told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Wednesday. "While I know — lumber notwithstanding — people are still pretty bullish on commodities, with a cyclical downturn in global industrial growth getting underway things are going to shift the other way." Achuthan points to a chart based upon his firm's research that shows the move lower after...

America’s fiscal house is not in order. The government spends trillions more than it takes in every year. For decades, our politicians have been more concerned with making speeches and raiding the treasury than sound economics and fiscal responsibility.   In roughly the last decade, the level of federal debt held by the public increased more than 400% – rising from $5 trillion in 2008 to nearly $22 trillion by the end of 2020. Sadly, there are few to no political incentives for our politicians to act responsibly. But there is no free lunch, and the reckoning for our country’s fiscal profligacy is rapidly approaching in the form of inflation. Inflation, or increases in general price levels of goods and services consumed across the economy, results when there is an increase in money available to spend, but not a corresponding increase in goods and services to spend it on. As Milton Friedman famously observed, "Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon." In 2016, researchers from the Hamilton Project, part of the Brookings Institution, found that low-income households spend a higher percentage of their budgets on basic needs — housing, food, transportation, health care and clothing — than they did three decades ago.The pandemic has exacerbated America's inequality problem, and lower-income workers have been disproportionately affected by economic hardship over the past year. Many of the millions of jobs lost to Covid-19 shutdowns were in sectors that typically pay lower wages, such as hospitality. And even though that industry is recovering, in April it was still short 2.8 million jobs compared with February 2020. New York (CNN Business)US stocks tumbled out of the gate Tuesday as investors grow increasingly concerned about raw material price spikes, shortages and inflation.Prices are rising all over the place as commodities, shipping costs and more related categories become more expensive.Even though the shortages and global supply issues have been lurking in plain sight for months, these worries are really weighing on stocks Tuesday. The price jumps affect broader measures of inflation, which in turn could force the Federal Reserve to change its monetary policy stance sooner than expected. For now, the central bank's interest rates are ultra-low and it buys billions of dollars worth of assets every month. But eventually that will change, and a prolonged increase in inflation could bring about that shift. So far, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has been steadfast in his view that it's too early to talk about policy changes as both labor market improvements and higher inflation over the medium term would have to happen first. Yet investors are still worried.Read MoreTech stocks are hit hardest by the inflation fears. The Nasdaq Composite (COMP) opened 2.1%...

A sold sign in front of a new home being built on April 16, 2021 in Miami, Florida.Joe Raedle | Getty Images A strange and exciting anomaly surfaced in March housing data. The median price of a newly built home was slightly lower than the median price of an existing home sold that month. That hasn't happened in more than 15 years.  "Finally!" you might be thinking. "I can buy a brand-new, pristine home for less than an old one!" Not quite.  The national median price of a newly built, single-family home sold in March was $330,800, according to the U.S. Census. The national median price of an existing, single-family home sold in March was $334,500, according to the National Association of Realtors. But you aren't likely to pay less for a new home than a used one – and that's due in large part to the shortage of lower-priced homes on the market. "On a per-square-foot basis, within comparable markets, a new home is still priced higher than an existing home," said Robert Dietz, chief economist at the National Association...

The Union of Finance Technicians (Gestha) considers that the proposal of the Ministry of Transport of José Luis Ábalos to establish tax exemptions for owners who lower their rents it will not serve to lower prices in areas where it has increased drastically in recent years. This is how the organization states it in a report to which it has had access 20 minutes, which argues with figures that owners would not be interested in lowering prices because they would lose money with it even if taxes are lowered. In the study, Gestha is clear in ensuring that “the proposed measure, as it is known, it will not achieve its intended objectives in stressed areas. “ For these areas, Transportes proposes to establish tax reductions on the yield provided by the rent to the owner of 70%, in the event that the house is rented to young people, to people with reduced income or in a social rental regime, and up to the 90% if the rental price is lowered by at least 10% compared to the previous contract. ...
DENVER (CBS4) – Prescription drug prices in Colorado could soon be controlled by a five person board. A bill by Senators Sonya Jacquez Lewis and Julie Gonzalez would create a Prescription Drug Affordability Review Board. It would start with 12 drugs the first year, and for each one, come up with a maximum purchase price. No one would pay more than that price for that drug. The lower the price, the lower the co-pay. Bankia The price of Bankia manages to resolve upwards the medium-term resistance that we identified around 1.6215 / 1.5835 euros per share, an area that now functions as a support area, an attack that, however, does not enjoy great attraction, as not being backed by a growing volume of trading and placing the price close to levels of resistance of a higher degree, such as (1) the upper part of the bullish channel and (2) 1.7685 euros per share. For its part, the growing structure in the medium term, under a clear process of growing channeling that starts from the annual lows of 2020, will not begin to be questioned as long as the price does not consolidate below (1) the support zone of 1,345 / 1,320 and (2) the lower trading band of the aforementioned bullish channel. At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, some experts expected sky-high home prices in Denver to finally fall. But so far, such predictions have resolutely failed to come true. In August, the average home price in the Mile High City blew past $600,000 for the first time. While that mark wasn't quite eclipsed in September, the situation definitely hasn't improved. According to the latest market trends report from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors, house hunters are facing "the toughest market to buy a home in metro Denver's history." The reason, once again, is demand that is far outstripping supply. DMAR notes that the 5,301 active listings at the end of last month represented the lowest inventory for any September on record by 2,215 properties.
