LOS ANGELES (AP) — Major League Baseball’s Midsummer Classic remains the most-watched all-star game in the major professional sports, even though it drew record lows in viewership for the fifth time since 2015. Tuesday night’s game from Los Angeles — which the American League won 3-2 — averaged 7.51 million viewers on Fox, according to Nielsen, a decline of 9.7% from last year’s contest in Colorado. The audience peaked at 8.24 million between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. EDT. The game was the most-watched program on television Tuesday night and outdrew the three other major all-star games that were played in February. The NFL’s Pro Bowl averaged 6.69 million on ABC, followed by the all-star games for the NBA (6.28 million on TNT/TBS) and NHL (1.15 million on ABC). The baseball game averaged 127,000 on Fox Deportes, giving it the second-highest audience for the event in Spanish-language television history. The game also averaged 107,455 on Fox Sports’ streaming platforms. The Home Run Derby on Monday night on ESPN averaged 6.88 million, a 3.5% decrease from last year. ___ More AP...
Getty Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum has been one of the Boston Celtics‘ best scorers since entering the NBA via the 2017 draft. It didn’t take long for Tatum to establish himself as one of Boston’s primary offensive weapons, which allowed then head coach Brad Stevens to feature the young wing in multiple sets and end-of-game scenarios. Due to Tatum’s rapid ascension through the ranks, he quickly started climbing an illustrious leaderboard: most points scored by a player under 23 all-time. Well, the St Louis native turns 24 on March 3rd, and as such, will be unable to continue climbing the current rankings. Jayson Tatum's final game as a 23-year old is Tuesday. Tonight he passed Anthony Davis into what will be his final spot, 12th on the NBA's all-time scoring list for players 23 and under. Curry made 16 3-pointers and scored 50 points, two off Anthony Davis’ record. He was clearly hunting it, asking on the sideline during a sizzling third quarter how many points it would take. “It’s pretty special, obviously being back in Ohio,” Curry said, seconds after being handed the inaugural Kobe Bryant MVP Trophy. “The trophy is very special. CLEVELAND (AP) — Stephen Curry delivered the greatest long-distance shooting performance in All-Star Game history, then LeBron James delivered another victory. Curry made a record 16 3-pointers and scored 50 points before James made a turnaround jumper that gave Team LeBron a 163-160 victory over Team Durant on Sunday night. Curry needed one more 3-pointer to break Anthony Davis’ record of 52 points but missed his final attempt. But with James’ team needing a basket to reach the target score of 163 points, they couldn’t afford to keep feeding Curry. So James pulled up from deep on the right side for the winning bucket, making him 5-0 in the format where the leading vote-getters in each conference draft teams. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 30 points, and James finished with 24 in his old home. Joel Embiid led Team Durant with 36 points. Copyright © 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Appropriately, the player who celebrated becoming the all-time 3-point king earlier this season made more history in the All-Star Game Sunday night inside Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. It took 47 seconds for Steph Curry to splash the first 3-pointer, setting up his latest performance etched into the record books. By the time it was over, Curry had 50 points on 16 3-pointers, obliterating the previous All-Star record for 3s in a game (9; Paul George, 2016) and narrowly missing out on the All-Star scoring record, too. In Andrew Wiggins’ All-Star debut, with Draymond Green featured prominently on the Turner Sports broadcast, it was still Curry who managed to steal the show. After reaching 50 points on his 16th 3-pointer, Curry missed his final four shots and passed up another sure-fire bucket on an assist, leaving him two points short of the single-game scoring record in an All-Star Game on an otherwise marvelous showing in his eighth All-Star appearance. Curry had eight 3-pointers by the end of the first half, also an NBA All-Star Game record and matching...

It could have gone poorly for the Panthers, a situation that came up based on events of more than a decade ago with a different franchise. But Brunette stepped in from his assistant...
The best Andy Dwyer moments from Parks and Rec 10 Things That Can Ding Your Social Security Payments Will he or won't he? That's all anyone wants to know. Trying to gauge whether Alex Ovechkin will pass Wayne Gretzky for the NHL's all-time goals record involves pinning down a number of moving targets and providing answers to mostly unanswerable questions. And while the easy answer is simply "It's too early to tell," that's also not any fun. Ovechkin entered the season 164 goals behind Gretzky. With the Capitals legend off to a blistering start, here's a closer look at what exactly it would take to threaten Gretzky's place in history.  All stats updated on Nov. 12. NHL all-time goals leaders On March 23, 1994, Gretzky surpassed Gordie Howe for the goals record with No. 802. In the second period at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, Calif., Gretzky put the puck past Canucks netminder Kirk McLean to break Howe's almost 14-year-old record. Nearly 28 years later, Gretzky is still holding firm as nobody else has pulled to even 100 goals of his...

Perhaps the second-most targeted star in the league was thought to be Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, and the early returns seem to be favoring that argument. © Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young While he's still averaging a double-double of 24.2 points and 10.0 assists per game through his team's first five games, one of Young's primary offensive advantages in getting to the free-throw line at a high rate has diminished thus far. Sterling made the joint-highest number of attempted dribbles in a European Championship match. He ran at the Denmark defence 15 times - and is tied with four football legends for the feat. Eden Hazard managed the same number in 2016 against Hungary. Dutch winger Arjen Robben terrorised the Latvia defence in 2004, and France star Franck Ribery did the same against Ukraine in 2012. The awesome quintet is finished off with Three Lions hero Steve McManaman, who was just as fleet-footed against Spain in 1996. The NBA All-star game concluded yesterday as a stacked team LeBron defeated the short-handed team Durant 170-150. Though LeBron James only played 13 minutes, other stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Steph Curry put on quite a spectacular display, helping the team lead to a wondrous conclusion. LeBron James opens up about his unbeaten record as an All-Star captain Ever since the new format of the All-Star games were announced in 2018, LeBron has been absolutely unstoppable. He has been a team captain since and has led his team to victory on three previous occasions. This latest All-Star game victory was the fourth successive win for LBJ as a captain, and the Lakers forward was asked about the same in his post game presser. James had a rather interesting take, claiming that he would want to remain unbeaten as an All-Star captain. LBJ said, “Hope that they allow me to retire from being an all star Captain, so I can retire with a perfect 4-0 record. You know, I’ll keep that forever.” The 36-year-old added, “I always try to pick the...
The TV ratings are in for the NBA All-Star Game, and the numbers are brutal. According to Anthony Crupi, the game averaged a pathetic 5.94 million viewers on TNT this past Sunday. That’s not great! The previous record-low came back in 2008, when the game drew 6.334 million viewers on TNT alone. The fact that the game itself even happened was criticized by fans and players alike, and as noted by Paulsen of Sports Media Watch, the traditional Saturday primetime of hoopla didn’t happen – the skills contest took place two hours before the game (drawing 4.259 million viewers), and the slam dunk contest took place at halftime. © Provided by Awful Announcing To me, the bigger takeaway here is that the concept of the All-Star Game has lost much of its meaning across all sports.
