Mets starter Carlos Carrasco was placed on the 15-day IL due to a low-grade strain in his left oblique. The Mets estimate his recovery timetable to be about three to four weeks. “Carlos got the test back, it’s actually pretty good news,” Buck Showalter offered optimistically. “Grade 1 (strain), that’s good news. We thought it could have been something a little deeper. We hope it’s not as long as some of those things take, we’ll see.” Carrasco left Monday’s game after two innings, which were interrupted by a rain delay. On his way into the tunnel after the second, he could be seen grabbing at his oblique. “I actually look at it as, maybe, an opportunity to freshen him up arm-wise,” Showalter said. “I think he’s exceeded the things that we thought he might do.” Stephen Nogosek was brought up from Syracuse to replace Carrasco. Nogosek has pitched in nine games for the Mets this season with a 2.30 ERA. Additionally, the Mets made a right-handed reliever swap. Adonis Medina was optioned to Triple-A while R.J. The league is looking to expand its long-held Thanksgiving dominance by adding a game to the schedule for the following Friday, most likely beginning in 2023, a source with knowledge of the deal has confirmed to DailyMail.com. Sports Business Journal was the first to report the news.  Amazon will stream the Black Friday game, according to SBJ, and could pay handsomely to do so. A fugitive who eluded Bogota police during what became an aborted pursuit walked right past another officer the next day and was promptly arrested, authorities said. It began around 1 a.m. Tuesday when a 2021 Mercedes E350 sped past Officer Matthew Luciano at more than 20 miles over the 30-mile-an-hour speed limit on West Main Street, Sgt. Geoffrey Cole said. Luciano tried to stop the sedan, but the driver hit the gas, steered around several other vehicles and blew a red light, Cole said. Given the potential danger – not to mention state Attorney General guidelines regarding pursuits – the officer pulled back. Police later found the Mercedes, with New York license plates, at The Atwater Luxury Apartments on West Fort Lee Road, Cole said. Reviewing area surveillance footage, Detective Michael LaFererra identified the owner as ex-con Kaishaun Trisvan, a 27-year-old Brooklyn resident with a lengthy criminal history. Buck Showalter appreciates his center fielder’s growth and work ethic, but he doesn’t want it to cost Brandon Nimmo his marriage. Nimmo apparently puts in work after hours on the diamond, which caught the attention of his manager. “I’ve left here a few nights and he’s still here,” Showalter said before his club faced the Brewers on Wednesday at Citi Field. “And I ask him, ‘Is your wife here?’ Nimmo’s wife, Chelsea, was not at the ballpark. “I said, ‘If you want to stay married, you need to get your butt out of here,” Showalter explained. But Showalter can’t complain about the baseball progress. Especially with the glove. At 29 years old, Nimmo has developed into one of the National League’s best defensive center fielders, as he demonstrated in Tuesday’s victory over the Brewers with a spectacular diving catch in the gap. While his attempt at marriage counseling was in jest, Showalter was serious about Nimmo’s commitment. “It’s hard to bring what he brings every day just from an effort standpoint and engagement,” the manager said. “His personality never wavers.”...

The festival was held at Druid Hill Park over the weekend. El DeBarge is known for many famous songs, including Rhythm of the Night. Burnett noted that multiple artists had sampled his work. “I’m reaching a new generation,” he said. “I hear people like 9, 10 years old [are listening to] my music and I think: wow, what a blessing. Thank you, God. And thank you to the mothers and fathers who pass the music on to their children.” Mayor Brandon Scott participated in the interview...
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- A New York firefighter will get to celebrate this Father's Day without the fear of whether he'll make it to the next holiday after receiving a life-saving heart transplant.Forty-four-year-old Michael Leavey is a firefighter and EMT at Dix Hills Fire Department in Suffolk County, Long Island.Leavey was diagnosed with heart failure and cardiomyopathy at 31."I was going to fight the fight for my wife and my son no matter what," Leavey said.Leavey went on disability in 2019 and doctors put him on an LVAD, a pump that keeps the heart working until a transplant can be done.He had to quit coaching baseball and made the difficult decision to sell his boat, as the LVAD makes any water activity impossible. His condition got so bad that he could barely walk or participate in day-to-day activities.A few years ago his fire department provided a special escort for him to attend his son's high school graduation, something he almost missed because of his declining health.Last August Leavey began treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital and was an inpatient for more...
Ryan Gosling has been hiding under a rock for the past four years, seemingly living on the moon since his appearance in First Man way back in 2018. Months and months without Mr. Gorgeous himself has resulted in a real drought of horniness online. What are we supposed to do? Divert our attention to Glen Powell? (Not the worst option.) Well, folks, that drought is over. It’s Ryan Gosling's monsoon season. And yes, our basements are flooded. (Too much?) Sure, he’s starring in The Gray Man for Netflix (nothing says “sexless” like The Russo Brothers, so that doesn’t count). But today, a tidal wave has hit our thirsty nation. Yes, we’re talking about *that* Barbie photo. Historians will look back on this day—June 15, 2022, mark your calendars, a national holiday—as the day cinema evolved into something new. Something beautiful. Something hunky, chiseled, and perfect entered the realm of Hollywood on this day, blowing the brain of every nerdy Letterboxd cinephile on planet earth. We will not allow a single negative word about Ryan Gosling as Ken, nor to all...

After the storms, watch out for excessive heat. Tuesday will be a Next Weather Alert day as feels-like temperatures in the Twin Cities will exceed 100 degrees. READ MORE: Motorcyclist Gravely Injured In Crash In OakdaleIn northern Minnesota, Marshall, Pennington and Polk counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:45 a.m. Sunday. Dew points will climb into the muggy range on Sunday and keep climbing through Tuesday. A complex of severe thunderstorms will develop in the Dakotas on Sunday and move into Minnesota overnight into Monday. It’s yet unclear whether those storms will weaken as...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Early morning showers will mostly clear up by the afternoon for a cool and muggy Saturday. The showers left behind up to one tenth of an inch of rain on Saturday morning in the Twin Cities. There will be a break in the afternoon, but still a chance for non-severe thunder showers to pop up for the rest of the day. In the southwestern corner of Minnesota, there is a marginal risk for severe weather, which could produce wind gusts between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. You’ll want to grab the umbrella this morning across #mnwx #wiwx; but, later today we’ll dry out (not entirely, but a marked improvement for outdoor plans). Warmth & mugginess will be on the way up, too. @jennifermayerle & I will see you 8-9a for @wcco Saturday! pic.twitter.com/nvFvedg5Fs — Mike Augustyniak (@MikeAugustyniak) June 11, 2022 Temperatures will only get into the mid-70s due to cloud cover. Dew points are in the 50s and 60s, meaning there’s a little more moisture in the air to work with. It’ll be slightly muggy through the...
DENVER (CBS4) – Mother Nature will give Colorado a summer preview this weekend as temperatures soar into the 80s and 90s for most locations. We could even see a few places reach the triple digits on the eastern plains and western slope. If you want 70s or cooler you’ll have to climb up to at least 9,000 feet or higher in elevation. We are not expecting any type of widespread organized weather over the weekend. We will see a handful of pop up showers and thunderstorms each afternoon due to daytime heating. If you get one of these it won’t last long but it will cool the temperature down. Brief rain and gusty winds can be expected in or near any storms that fire up. It will stay hot right into early next week with 80s and 90s just about statewide. By Tuesday it looks like a rather strong cold front will move into the state. Behind it the air will be more seasonal for this time of year. The front could trigger some strong to severe thunderstorms so...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — We could see some showers early Friday, and another round is possible in the afternoon. These showers are isolated in nature with many staying dry. The Twin Cities will see a high of 79 degrees. The better chance of rain comes early on Saturday. There could be isolated showers and storms later in the day, too. Nothing severe is expected. Saturday’s high will reach 77. Sunday’s high will hit 80 in the metro. The day looks mainly dry, with a few isolated showers possible. On Monday, a lifting warm front could trigger thunderstorms. The timing, for now, is early in the day. Tuesday will be a cooker, with highs near 90 and high humid, too.
Chicago White Sox left fielder Eloy Jiménez — working his way back from a right hamstring tendon tear — is experiencing “normal leg soreness,” general manager Rick Hahn said Thursday. “In order to knock it out of him, we are going to return him from the rehab assignment which essentially stops the 20-day clock,” Hahn said. “We are fairly confident that we will be able to put him back on a rehab assignment as soon as next week.” Jiménez has been out since April 23, when he tore the hamstring tendon behind his right knee, requiring surgery. He began a rehab assignment May 28 with Triple-A Charlotte. Hahn said the original 20-day minor-league rehab clock was set to expire next week. “Doing this move allows us to remove any of the time pressure from the original 20-day clock,” Hahn said. “In terms of this normal leg soreness, as I would describe it, it is normal from the standpoint that both (pitcher) Lance (Lynn) and (catcher) Yasmani (Grandal) — who had similar procedures — experienced it as well. The difference was...
DENVER (CBS4) – Sky watchers have something fun to try and catch a glimpse of over the next few weeks, but it will require getting up early in the morning to see it. For the first time since December 2004 we’ll be treated to a rare alignment of five planets, all visible with the naked eye. To see this phenomenon you’ll want to look in the southeast sky about an hour before sunrise. From left to right you should be able to see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. They will appear in a row in their natural order with relation to the sun. On the morning of June 24 you’ll get an added bonus with the waning crescent Moon positioned between Venus and Mars, serving as a stand in for Earth. Alignment of five planets on June 24, 2022 (credit: Sky & Telescope) June mornings often produce a clear to mostly clear sky across Colorado, even when we’ve had thunderstorms on the previous day. RAPID CITY, S.D. (WCCO) — Thursday marks 50 years since a historic flood devastated the area of Rapid City, South Dakota, killing over 200 people. According to the National Weather Service, in the early evening of June 9, 1972, heavy thunderstorms moved in, bringing heavy rain that caused Rapid Creek to rise rapidly. The rain didn’t slow until the overnight hours. The NWS says during the flood, water rose as fast as 3.5 feet in 15 minutes. The flood crested at 12:15 a.m., when an estimated 50,000 cubic feet per second of water reached downtown Rapid City. By 5 a.m. the next day, Rapid Creek was once again within its banks. The flash flooding caused massive damage throughout Rapid City and the eastern foothills of the Black Hills. Several thousand people were injured and 238 people were killed. As for damage, 1,335 homes and 5,000 automobiles were destroyed, along with 15 of the 23 bridges that went over Rapid Creek. An avalanche of celebratory confetti rained down on revelers at the Grove late Tuesday night, as the mall’s billionaire developer Rick Caruso maintained a small lead over Rep. Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayoral race. But the path from early primary returns to a November victory is far from a straight shot for either candidate. The next five months of campaigning will likely amplify the partisan schism between Caruso, a Republican turned centrist Democrat best known for his business bona fides, and Bass, who began her career as an outside-the-system activist and became a more pragmatic progressive over two decades in elected office. Ahead of the primary, both candidates spent much of their time introducing themselves to voters — and the direct attacks on one another picked up as election day got closer. The road to the runoff election will now be a head-to-head battle, with both candidates fighting to define themselves in opposition to each other. There will be more television ads, attacks on Caruso’s Republican ties, roasts of Bass’ elected tenure as being more of...

Walmart is adding four new fulfillment centers to its existing capacity, a move that will bring more than 4,000 jobs and make next- or two-day shipping available to more Americans. The announcement comes at a time when consumers are relying on packages being shipped to their homes more than ever before. While online ordering has continued to increase over the years, the pandemic saw a huge surge in such orders as Americans stayed home during lockdowns and had essential items and other goods delivered to their doors. While coronavirus restrictions have eased, many consumers’ online ordering habits remain. Aside from a growth in online orders, Walmart and other retailers are trying to make sure that their shipping speed keeps pace with rival Amazon, which offers same-day, one-day and two-day delivery options for those who pay for its Prime membership. Walmart said Friday that its four next generation fulfillment centers will be built over the next three years. The centers, which feature robotics and machine learning, double the capacity and number of orders allowed to be fulfilled in a...
