Pennsylvania State Representative Emily Kinkead (D-Pittsburgh) announced on Friday that she will sponsor a bill to require residents to obtain permits to buy guns.  Her legislation is a companion to a Senate measure authored by Art Haywood (D-Philadelphia). The senator began touting his legislation the day after the May school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in which an 18-year-old killed 19 children and two teachers.  Kinkead and Haywood are seeking to amend Title 18, Pennsylvania’s criminal code, to stipulate that anyone preparing to purchase a firearm to apply for a police- or sheriff-issued permit. The state already administers licenses that allow a resident to carry guns they possess; anyone aged at least 21 years who has a clean record can acquire the latter. The purchasing permit would apply to those who are at least 18 years old.  “We must act to #EndGunViolence but my #GOP colleagues are instead playing games with people’s lives,” Kinkead tweeted on Friday.  In that post, she retweeted an assertion by Governor Tom Wolf (D) that the Keystone State suffered a “mass shooting” once every 10 days...
Share this: On Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, Jasminder Singh, 45, of Freemont, Calif., was sentenced to 48 months’ imprisonment for bank fraud and money laundering in Brooklyn federal court. U.S. District Judge Bagley Amon presided over the sentencing following the conviction on April 27 by a federal jury. As revealed at trial, Singh used four business entities – which he had created and controlled – and 10 American Express “Amex” credit cards to purchase thousands of Apple iPhones and other Apple products. Singh sold the merchandise overseas for millions. Between November 2017 and December 2019, Singh had misrepresented to American Express the inability to repay more than $4.7 million in charges incurred from his scheme to acquire additional credit, using a series of financial transactions to conceal money he made from selling the Apple iPhones. Singh used proceeds from his fraud to purchase luxury items, including a home in Fremont, Calif., which was paid for in cash.

Not only did Pelosi scoff at the idea, but she defended such participation. "No, I don't ... because this is a free market and people — we are a free market economy," Pelosi said. "They should be able to participate in that."

Saul Loeb | AFP | Getty Images If you're a prospective homebuyer who is having second thoughts, you're not alone. About 15% of all home contracts fell through in June, marking the highest share of cancellations since March 2020 — the start of the pandemic — when it was 17.6%, according to real estate brokerage Redfin. A year ago, the share was 11.2%. Yet before you join the ranks of buyers who walk away from a deal in progress, it's important to consider if it will cost you to do so. Or, if you have yet to sign an initial contract but are nearing that point, it's worth knowing whether you can cancel at some point in a way that wouldn't result in forfeiting your deposit. How much money is at stake with a broken contractTypically, buyers provide what's called an earnest money or "good faith" deposit when an offer is made on a home, although the specifics vary from state to state. The amount is usually 1% to 5% of the purchase price but can run as high as 10%...
Former President Donald Trump lobbed a series of personal attacks at tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday after Musk suggested that Trump should abandon his political ambitions. “I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset,” Musk tweeted on Monday in response to Trump referring to Musk as a "bullshit artist" at a rally in Alaska on Saturday. "Dems should also call off the attack – don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency," Musk said. READ MORE: 'Don’t let the door hit you': Elon Musk backs out of Twitter deal Today, Trump authored a trio of posts on Truth Social poking fun at the slow-motion collapse of Musk's $44 billion bid to purchase Twitter. 'When Elon Musk came to the White House asking me for help on all of his many subsidized projects, whether it’s electric cars that don’t drive long enough, driverless cars that crash, or rocketships to nowhere, without which subsidies he’d be worthless, and telling me how...
Twitter officially files a lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday in the Delaware Court of Chancery after Musk said he would terminate his $44 billion deal to buy the social media giant. Musk, who has become a deeply polarizing figure as of late, said last week that he would no longer seek to buy Twitter, sparking speculation of a major legal drama. Musk’s lawyer, Mike Ringler, sent a letter to Twitter saying “Twitter has not complied with its contractual obligations.” “Twitter has failed or refused to provide this information,” Ringler claimed, referencing Musk’s demand that Twitter discloses to him how many of its accounts are not actual people. “Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr. Musk’s requests, sometimes it has rejected them for reasons that appear to be unjustified, and sometimes it has claimed to comply while giving Mr. Musk incomplete or unusable information,” the letter added. Musk “signed a legally binding agreement in April to buy the company for $54.20 a share, waiving due diligence to get the deal done quickly,” reported the New York Times. Musk over to...
Washington, DC (CNN)Jason Simon placed an order for a Tesla Model 3 this April, eager to own an electric vehicle. He heard from Tesla in June that his car was ready, but he backed out of the purchase, losing the $250 order fee he paid. Simon told CNN Business his feelings changed this spring after Tesla CEO Elon Musk struck a deal to buy Twitter. Musk has since backtracked and indicated that he wants out of the deal to purchase the social media company.Simon is one of many electric vehicle buyers who have developed new, stronger feelings about Musk and Tesla in recent weeks. Driving a Tesla has long been a way for consumers to signal values on the environment and sustainability. Consumers connect deeply with brands that share their values, or represent what they aspire to be, according to Americus Reed, a marketing professor at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Tesla has benefited from a powerful, identity-based loyalty that's emerged with car buyers, and it rivals top brands like Apple and Nike. David Faber seemed to shock his CNBC colleagues by suggesting that Elon Musk could be put in jail over the lawsuit he faces from his decision to back out of buying Twitter. On Monday, Faber joined Jim Cramer and Carl Quintanilla as they led Squawk on the Street with the news that Musk’s legal team told Twitter he’s cancelling their deal for him to buy the company for $44 billion. Twitter chairman Bret Taylor announced the company would take legal action to close the buyout transaction Musk initially agreed to, though the Tesla CEO seemed to be scoff at what could happen with the dispute going before court. pic.twitter.com/JcLMee61wj — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 11, 2022 Faber zeroed in on Musk’s claims that Twitter hasn’t been truthful with him about how much activity on the platform is genuine, as opposed to bots and spam accounts. Faber assessed there has been “no evidence presented thus far in any way to enhance” Musk’s accusations, and now Musk will have to produce evidence in court to establish his claims about Twitter’s supposed...

Billionaire Elon Musk is seeking to break his agreement to buy Twitter for $44 billion, claiming the Bay Area social-media giant refused to tell him how many of the accounts on its platform were fake. Musk had been trying to get that information since early May, after reaching an agreement in late April to buy the San Francisco company, according to a letter to Twitter’s board filed Friday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Musk had demanded Twitter prove spam bots made up fewer than 5% of its users. “Mr. Musk has been clear that he views Twitter’s non-responsiveness as a material breach of the Merger Agreement giving him the right to terminate the Merger Agreement if uncured,” said the letter from a law firm. Twitter on Friday said it would see Musk in court. “We are committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plan to pursue legal action to enforce the merger agreement,” the company said Friday in a news release. “We are confident we will prevail in the...

ELON Musk has terminated a $44billion agreement to purchase Twitter, according to a new letter. The letter was sent on Friday, citing multiple discrepancies and a lack of information from Twitter needed to seal the deal. 1Elon Musk has terminated his agreement to purchase Twitter According to a letter from Musk, he claimed that Twitter is "in material breach of multiple provisions" of a previous letter of agreement. Additionally, the letter states that Twitter "appears to have made false and misleading representations upon which Mr. Musk relied when entering into the Merger Agreement." The letter goes on to state that Twitter has not complied with its previously stated contractual obligations. "In short, Twitter has not provided information that Mr. Musk has requested for nearly two months notwithstanding his repeated, detailed clarifications intended to simplify Twitter’s identification, collection, and disclosure of the most relevant information sought in Mr. Musk’s original requests," the letter states. Three months have passed since the national Black Lives Matter group announced the launch of an art fellowship program used to justify its secret purchase of a $6 million Los Angeles mansion, but the charity hasn't even begun to accept applications for the program. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation announced the fellowship program just days before New York magazine revealed in early April the charity had secretly purchased the property with donor cash in October 2020. BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors filmed videos at the property for her personal YouTube channel, held private events at the compound, and stayed at the mansion for days at a time during the 19-month period BLM concealed its purchase of the property from the public and its donors. Cullors said in a now-deleted Instagram post in April that BLM didn't disclose the property purchase because it "needed repairs and renovation." BLM said in an Instagram post in April that "application details will be announced in the near future" for the fellowship program. But the charity has since made no apparent...
