No foul play was suspected in the death of a homeless man found in back of a Dunkin' Donuts in Hackensack, authorities said. The body was found behind a dumpster in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Passaic Street off Railroad Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, responders said. The Hispanic man, believed to be in his 30s, apparently had been camped out behind the trash bin, they said. City police cordoned off the area for the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office, which collected the body, and the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification, which gathered evidence.

Parents in the Capital District are being warned about a man who allegedly attempted to lure kids into his vehicle near a school.  In Schenectady County, the Scotia Police Department issued an alert saying they were investigating multiple incidents of attempted child luring involving a man driving a white pickup truck. The latest incident was reported at around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, when a girl told police the man had approached her as she walked toward a school and asked if she wanted a ride. Police said the girl made it safely to school and later reported the incident to authorities. Scotia Police Chief Daniel Harrigan told Daily Voice the incident happened along Vley Road, but would not specify near which school.  The suspect is described as a white, heavy-set man with white hair and a medium length white, bushy beard. He was reportedly wearing a sage green t-shirt at the time. Police described the vehicle as a white pickup truck with junk in the bed and a foul odor emanating from inside. They posted surveillance images of a...
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The NBA has completed the process of changing the transition take foul rule, ending years of discussion about what to do with the long-maligned tactic. And, also as expected, the play-in tournament is going to be around for the foreseeable future. The league’s board of governors finalized those two matters Tuesday, approving a plan to award one free throw when teams are disadvantaged by the take foul — as well as removing the “experimental” designation from the play-in element to the postseason. It wasn’t a surprise that the league changed the penalty on take fouls; Commissioner Adam Silver told The Associated Press in early June that it would change, though cautioned that the new rule might still be tweaked in future years. The take foul — in which the defender does not make a play on the ball — is what the league classifies as one that occurs either “during a transition scoring opportunity or immediately following a change of possession and before the offensive team had the opportunity to advance the ball.” The exception is...

How many fouls does it take for a player to foul out in the NBA Summer League? Players get a lot more leeway on the foul front at the summer tournaments. Checking out an NBA Summer League game or two can be a lot of fun, especially if you have an eye on that exciting young talent your team just drafted. But it can also be a bit confusing when that same player commits his then sixth, then seventh, then eighth foul and still gets to stay on the court. What gives? Do players not foul out in the Summer League? How many fouls until players foul out in NBA Summer League?Players can indeed foul out, the rules are just significantly more forgiving than the NBA. While pros in the NBA are sent to the bench after their sixth foul, players in the Summer League don’t foul out until they have committed 10 fouls. The whole point of the Summer League is to be a learning and evaluating experience. Having a player foul out on their sixth foul could limit the...

The recovered bodies were taken by the Clark County Coroner’s Office which is working to identify the remains. READ MORE ON US NEWSHORROR DEATH UPS driver, 24, 'dies from heat stroke'...

BERLIN (AP) — Police say there are no signs of foul play in the case of an eight-year-old boy who was found in a rainwater sewer more than a week after going missing in northern Germany. The boy disappeared on June 17 in the town of Oldenburg. Search parties spent days looking for him in vain until somebody heard whimpering from beneath a manhole cover about 300 meters (330 yards) from the boy’s home on June 25. Rescuers found the boy naked, chilled and dehydrated inside the sewer, but otherwise unharmed. His clothes were later found elsewhere in the sewer. In a statement Tuesday, Oldenburg police said that their investigation concluded the boy likely climbed into a drainage pipe near his home and then got lost inside the narrow tunnels. Witnesses who claimed to have seen the boy outside the tunnels or in the company of an adult were deemed to have been mistaken. The boy, who remains in hospital, has not yet been questioned by officers, police said. Copyright © 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may...

Getty Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics fell flat in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, losing 107-88 to the Golden State Warriors. Boston’s 19 turnovers (which led to 33 Warriors points) were the primary reason they lost, but the big storyline to come out of the game was the play of Draymond Green. Green was his usual, antagonistic self. Throughout the course of the game, he got into dust-ups with Grant Williams, Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum. BOSTON (AP) — Plate umpire John Tumpane left Monday night’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox in the seventh inning after getting hit by a foul ball. Tumpane didn’t have a chance to move when Ryan Mountcastle fouled off a 96 mph fastball by Ryan Brasier and the ball deflected slightly, hitting Tumpane square in the protective face mask and knocking it off. Tumpane remained on his feet as a member of Boston’s athletic training staff came out of the dugout and spoke with him behind home plate. After a few minutes, Tumpane headed into the Red Sox dugout and went up the tunnel for further evaluation. The game resumed about 10 minutes later with Adrian Johnson, who had been umpiring at first base, behind the plate. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright © 2022 The Associated Press. Q: I know the Heat are not the type of team that will look for excuses, but why isn’t more being made about Payton Pritchard’s pulling of Jimmy Butler’s leg, which clearly affected his knee? I suspect that if Gabe Vincent did something similar to Jayson Tatum it would be on the 24-hour ESPN news cycle. – Sandy, Coral Springs. A: I suspect you are correct. And while I always can appreciate that referees have a tough time noticing every nuance when the game is played at speed, I find it difficult to accept that the NBA office noticed nothing untoward when that play was reviewed (all plays are reviewed, with only those in the last two minutes of close games cited on the publicly released officiating report). It assuredly was more than an innocuous play, with the league retroactively able to assess a flagrant foul. So going forward, such a play leaves a player with nothing more than a common foul? That appears to be a dangerous standard, but also one the NBA seemingly has established with this precedent....

The Milwaukee Bucks took Game 3 against the Boston Celtics in pretty controversial fashion. Many believe the Celtics should’ve had a shot at overtime. Saturday evening, the Milwaukee Bucks were able to claim a 2-1 series lead over the Boston Celtics. Game 3 ended up going Milwaukee’s way as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s remarkable effort helped lead the Bucks to a 103-101 win over the Celtics. But, just because Antetokounmpo was great as the Bucks got the win doesn’t mean things weren’t a little controversial. Referees are generally criticized on a regular basis — that happens frequently. The Warriors felt like it was going to be a physical Game 2 in Memphis against the Grizzlies. They were more right than they even expected to be — and may have lost a key player in the process. Just like Draymond Green in Game 1, Memphis’ Dillon Brooks was ejected in Game 2 for a flagrant two foul — that was, at least for a moment, initially ruled a common foul on the floor. Brooks was given a flagrant two for winding up and hitting Gary Payton II in the head as Payton attempted a layup at the basket. Payton hit the ground directly on his left arm (his shooting arm) and was in visible pain for several minutes. Though Payton shot the free throws and made 1 of 2, he was immediately substituted out and went to the Warriors locker room. The Warriors then said Payton was getting x-rays on his left elbow, and his status was to be determined. The ejection comes just two days after Green was ejected for a flagrant two foul in Game 1,...
