That doesn't mean much unless it's followed up by a strong Week 7. With the number of bye teams going up to six — the Bills, Cowboys, Vikings, Steelers, Chargers and Jaguars — it's a smaller slate of only 13 games. That lighter schedule still features three massive double-digit favorites, balanced by four games where the spread is set at four or fewer points. In the 1 p.m. window of the NFL’s Week 6, every single betting favorite covered the spread. In a season that was dominated by underdogs in the early going, all seven favorites covered, levying a tough blow to the books. Jeff Stoneback, the Director of Trading for BetMGM, told Yahoo Sports that Sunday was “the worst day” he’s seen during his time in the industry, which spans several decades. “I’ve been in the business for 35 years. It was the worst day behind the counter we’ve ever had in 35 years,” Stoneback said. “The public crushed it today.” In all, the favorites went 9-3 straight-up and 8-4 against the spread on Sunday. Stoneback said the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys were all “very significant” winners for the public. The Chiefs, Rams and Packers all covered pretty comfortably. The Chiefs...

Wildlife experts in Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia are baffled by a mysterious disease that is causing swelling and discharge in the eyes of birds , as well as neurological impairments.  The illness, first tracked in May, has been linked with at least 325 cases of sick or dead birds. According to a statement from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), many of the birds have had crusty, swollen eyeballs, 'accompanied by wobbly movements that suggest neurological issues.' Currently the disease hasn't affected any other animals and seems only to be affecting fledgling grackles and blue jays, two species commonly found in the mid-Atlantic region. Scroll down for video  'It seems to be pretty widespread, and also it's extending for a pretty good period of time,' Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources veterinarian Megan Kirchgessner told The Washington Post. 'And it's continuing.' In conjunction with the National Park Service and USGS, environmental agencies in the four states are conducing ongoing testing and investigations into the cause of the die-off. The Eagles opened as 1.5-point favorites, and closed as 6.5-point underdogs. And after the first quarter, the game reflected the circumstances. One team was...

Longtime NFC East rivals meet on Sunday when the Eagles travel less than 100 miles north up the New Jersey Turnpike to visit the Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This marks the eighth time in the past 20 years that the Eagles have played a road game after their bye — they’ve gone 5-2 both straight-up and against the spread in their previous seven post-bye road games. The 2-7 Giants have struggled at home in recent seasons, going 5-16 straight-up and 4-16-1 against the spread at MetLife Stadium since the start of 2018. And the betting line for Cowboys vs. Steelers underscores how far “America’s Team” has fallen. Furthermore, per ESPN, the Cowboys are 0-8 against the spread this season and are the only NFL team to not cover a spread in 2020. The 0-8 mark ties the 1991 Cincinnati Bengals and the 2003 Oakland Raiders for the worst against-the-spread starts in the Super Bowl era. There’s a great chance Dallas will fall to 0-9 against the spread as its choice for quarterback on Sunday will come down to Garrett Gilbert and Cooper Rush. When the Cowboys (2-5) travel to play the Eagles (2-4-1) in Philadelphia in the penultimate game of NFL Week 8 on “Sunday Night Football” (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC), they will be trying to get back into first place in the weak NFC East. PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Eagles will have to shake off another loss — and do it quickly. They have a short turnaround this week as they face the New York Giants on Thursday night. Eagles fans were back at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time on Sunday. And they didn’t have anything to cheer about early on in Sunday’s 30-28 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Birds were down 17-0 at halftime — but late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles were mounting a comeback. Carson Wentz snuck it into the endzone to put the Birds within two points, but couldn’t complete the two-point conversion. “We’re trying to be loud for them but there’s no way to be loud for them,” one Eagles fan said. Put 5,000 people into a 70,000 seat stadium and it sounds pretty cavernous. “It was actually pretty eerie being in there with not a full stadium and the energy is different,” Danielle Brennan, of Media, said. “It’s definitely not the same.” Sunday’s loss to Baltimore puncturing more holes in the Eagles 2020 balloon. “It’s...

It was another wild weekend of wagering in the NFL, as sportsbooks bounced back from a rough Week 2. The biggest bets of Sunday came at DraftKings Sportsbook in New Jersey, as the book took two huge wagers on the New York Giants: * $500,000 on the Giants +4 * $500,000 on Daniel Jones Over 244.5 passing yards Respected money came in on the Giants, pushing the line down to San Francisco -3 on Sunday; it had opened 49ers -6.5 on the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook lookahead line. The game didn’t go well for the two bettors above — or the respected money. The Giants finished with only 231 yards of total offense, Jones finished with 179 yards passing and the Giants never led, losing 36-9. San Francisco held the ball for more than 39 minutes of the game. The Indianapolis Colts (-11.5) were a popular public play, with 68 percent of the money on Indianapolis to cover against the New York Jets at William Hill books. William Hill also took its biggest moneyline bet of the day: $52,000 on...
